During a press conference on Thursday, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) spoke about President Trump's effort to get the Texas legislature to redraw its congressional districts.

00:00On the issue of redistricting, you were asked a couple days ago about whether governors in blue states should draw mid-decade lines to counter the efforts in Texas and North Carolina.
00:13You would defer to those governors.
00:14Since then, Gavin Newsom has come out pretty strongly and said he's ready to pull the trigger and do that to counter what's going on in Texas.
00:24Given that development, can you weigh in a little bit more?
00:26Do you think it's a good idea, a bad idea?
00:28Does it set a bad precedent?
00:30And are you in discussions with the governor about doing that very thing?
00:33It's all options on the table at this moment because of the existential threat that Republicans have posed to the health, safety, and economic well-being of the American people.
00:50As Democrats, we just want fair maps across the country.
00:57And to the extent that governors in different states throughout the nation conclude that a re-evaluation as to whether their current maps are as fair as possible should take place,
01:17that certainly is a decision that makes sense to me in this environment.
