House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) held a press briefing on Monday where he was asked about the impact of the Big Beautiful Bill Act.
Transcript
00:00There are people who will lose their health care coverage across the state of New York
00:21and beyond, approximately 14 million in this country.
00:25Tens of millions of others are going to pay higher co-pays, premiums, and deductibles
00:35because of the significant role that Medicaid plays in the health care ecosystem across this country.
00:44And if you're effectively in Medicaid as we know it, it will also have an impact that
00:50is damaging on people who don't rely on Medicaid for their health insurance but are part of
00:58the same health care ecosystem.
01:01Hospitals are going to close.
01:03Nursing homes are going to shut down.
01:06Community health clinics will shutter their doors.
01:13And people are going to die when their health care is taken away from them, all because
01:21Republicans want to provide a massive tax break to their billionaire donors like Elon Musk.
01:27That's the fundamental question that is before the Congress and the House of Representatives
01:32this week.
01:34Democrats are going to stand on the side of the American people, their health care, their
01:37nutritional assistance, their access to higher education, stand on the side of veterans
01:43and everyday Americans and people with disabilities and our children and seniors.
01:49And Republicans are continuing to stand on the side of their billionaire donors.
01:55And House Republicans in particular are once again shamefully bending the knee and serving
02:05as nothing more than a rubber stamp for Donald Trump's extreme agenda.
02:10That's why he's coming up to the hill tomorrow to give them their marching orders as if House
02:17Republicans work for Donald Trump, J.D. Vance, or Elon Musk.
02:21You don't.
02:23You work for the American people.
02:25And all we need are four House Republicans to stand up and do the right thing
02:32and push back against this one big ugly bill, and we could actually save the health care
02:39of the American people.
02:42Do you plan to speak with President Trump at all during this process of tomorrow?
02:47I have no current plans to talk to President Trump.
02:49Thank you for the hard work for the American people here at the Clark.
02:59you
