00:00Hi, I'm Lori Milliron.
00:08What would you like to know?
00:17I was the girlfriend, a long-time girlfriend.
00:25I started working at the dentistry in 2002.
00:28That's when I met Larry.
00:30He was the owner of the practice and extremely successful.
00:35He was always traveling to Africa or someplace.
00:42He started asking me out immediately.
00:47He would write me little notes and send me flowers.
00:53I was reluctant.
00:55But after a little while, I slowly, slowly got to know him.
01:02Our childhoods were very similar in that our mothers were kind of crazy.
01:08We really made a connection, a friendship based on that.
01:15But one of the girls at the office told me he was married.
01:19And I said to Larry, I've heard you're married.
01:23And he said, it's okay.
01:24We do our own thing.
01:26Let me be your entertainment.
01:28He asked me if I wanted to go somewhere with him.
01:37And then we started traveling all over the place.
01:42You have to be in the video.
01:43I don't want to be in the video.
01:44Yeah, stop it.
01:45Okay.
01:46As we traveled, we fell in love.
01:47100%.
01:48I'm Dr. Larry Rudolph.
01:49No sights, no sounds, and no fears.
01:51This case is just as salacious as a true crime story comes.
01:52Infidelity.
01:53Fraud.
01:54Fraud.
01:55And murder.
01:56Now, he's being accused of murder.
01:57What are we doing?
01:59What are we doing?
02:00That's what we said, sir.
02:02We fell in love.
02:03100%.
02:05I'm Dr. Larry Rudolph.
02:20leaks.
02:21No sights, no sounds, and no fears.
02:23He's being accused of murder.
02:2565-year-old Lori Millire.
02:27The husband and his mistress.
02:28Prosecutors say Rudolph intended to start a new life with his girlfriend.
02:32He was also his office manager.
02:34There was no ulterior motive or, you know, plan to do this.
02:42He's not this horrible person.
02:44I'm not either.
02:45This call is from the federal prison.
03:23Okay, Dr. Rudolph, we're back on the record.
03:31Are you ready to proceed?
03:32Yes, sir.
03:33When were you first introduced to hunting?
03:43My father first introduced me.
03:46And I was just a small boy.
03:48I had a family for the outdoors, like a lot of young kids do.
03:56My father is a very kind and wonderful man who taught me to be a good hunter.
04:03He taught me patience to sit still, listen, and look.
04:07The place just was in my blood.
04:08I took my first African safari in 1986.
04:15I was in love with the adventure.
04:22Did he hunt a lot?
04:23Yes.
04:25Mostly in Africa when I was much younger.
04:28I have a lot of good memories.
04:32I remember it was a quiet, remote, peaceful place.
04:38He was an experienced hunter.
04:39He had over 400 and some different species of animals.
04:47That's pretty prestigious in that world.
04:53The more hunting I did, it drew me into crow hunting and conservation.
04:58My wife, how did I spend 25 years committed and devoted to those things?
05:07The single most powerful, most influential hunter's rights organization in the world.
05:15Join.
05:17Like your way of life depends on it.
05:22Safari Club was founded in 1972.
05:25It grew to over 300 chapters.
05:30And we're now the world's largest sport hunting international organization.
05:38At SCI, we protect the rights of all hunters, no matter what you hunt, how you hunt, or where you hunt.
05:45The National Rifle Association is all about, you know, shooting, Second Amendment rights, that kind of thing.
05:51Where Safari Club International is more behind the hunters.
05:56Safari Club is a very big deal.
05:58Our convention is national news.
06:02We have an interesting group of celebrities that attend.
06:07We all have to stand up and stand up for what we believe in, for our passions, for the outdoors, for hunting, for shooting, and for everything.
06:13And there's no better place than this.
06:15So, yeah, Safari Club is just a wonderful organization.
06:21To be president of Safari Club is a big deal if you're in Safari Club.
06:34In 1998, I became president.
06:37I took it very seriously when I was president.
06:42George Bush, Sr., General Schwarzkopf, and Chuck Yeager attended the convention.
06:50I hope that I furthered the mission of Safari Club.
06:55When Larry and my friend Bianca would walk into a room, it was like the room was on fire.
07:14It was a very impressive show that they did.
07:18It was fun to watch her talk to people about hunting.
07:24Bianca's eyes would light up, green eyes, just with this fire behind them.
07:30She was a wonderful shot.
07:32She knew how to take down the animals better than most men I know.
07:36This river can't be crossed by swinging on a vine.
07:39Crocodiles are its principal inhabitants.
07:41When Bianca started big game hunting, she really, really enjoyed leopard hunting.
07:48That was her favorite.
07:51She liked the way they looked, the way they acted, the fact that they were amazing predators.
07:57And, you know, it was a tremendous sport to reach a choir.
08:02Bianca seemed to be very nice, personable, and she was clearly devoted to Larry.
08:10When I first met Larry Rudolph, he reminded me of Howdy Doody without frickles.
08:18I might even dance a little bit, too.
08:20That's good.
08:21Yeah, it's a treat.
08:22He was friendly, and he had that look about him.
08:27But I'd started having very big concerns about the morality of Larry Rudolph.
08:34There were lots of tall tales he told.
08:36The first time I met Larry Rudolph, he had approached me and said,
08:53I went fishing in Zambia, and this crocodile bit the tip of my thumb off.
08:59If anything, you'd be missing a hand.
09:03There was a rumor that he had cut it off with a hatchet.
09:07You know, I mean, there were all kinds of rumors going around.
09:09Some people bought into it.
09:11Some people thought, wow, this is amazing.
09:14This guy fought off a crocodile and only lost his thumb.
09:18He's really a stud.
09:20It created a mythology around him.
09:24The hunting community recognizes a tough guy.
09:29Somebody who takes the most difficult hunts, who challenges himself.
09:34I think Larry saw the Safari Club presidency as something that he wanted, and he was good to get it.
09:43Hello, my name is Dr. Larry Rudolph, and I'm a candidate for president-elect of Safari Club.
09:49He ran against Ron Arndt, a reasonable, ethical guy.
09:53I was primed to become the president, but Larry wanted to be president of Safari Club International above and beyond everything else.
10:03He was not going to play fair.
10:05I didn't know how unfair he would play.
10:09It was a Friday, and I was going to visit my family.
10:13And he said to me, I want you to put these in envelopes and mail them along your way home.
10:18He wanted different postmarks on.
10:20They were ballots for his office of president.
10:24He said he didn't do that.
10:27He claimed that he didn't do anything wrong.
10:30Larry craved power.
10:35Ron Arndt lost fairly significantly.
10:38Absolutely, I was worried for the organization.
10:42I think Larry was a small man with a big ego, and that's a dangerous game.
10:50Hi, I'm Larry Rudolph, president of Safari Club International.
11:05Almost 10 months have passed since I took the office as your president.
11:09The time has passed quickly.
11:11There were things that Bianca would overlook.
11:15She would give him the benefit of the doubt.
11:18If being president made Larry happy, she was going to support him in it, and she did it very well.
11:25There's a luncheon that always happens at Safari Club, and she would talk to people and educate them about what hunting was all about.
11:33And then Larry was doing some of the ads for Safari Club.
11:39Hi, my name is Dr. Larry Rudolph.
11:41He liked to see himself on TV.
11:43That was his medium.
11:45He knew it.
11:45He'd been involved in it before in his dental practice.
11:48Building himself up, look what I am, look what I've done, look what I continue to do.
12:02I think he fancied himself a better version of Wayne LaPierre.
12:06To stop a bad guy with a gun, it takes a good guy with a gun.
12:14Larry is a megalomaniac.
12:29Once there was a major fundraiser up in Alaska.
12:36Sarah Palin was going to be speaking that night.
12:38You say, I say, we say, keep your change.
12:41We'll keep our God, our guns, our constitution.
12:46There was just a mass of red roses all across the stage.
12:50And Larry was coming out with his arms spread wide as if to give her a hug.
12:55Larry tried to work his way in to try to get close to her.
13:01Sarah put up her hands like this, basically saying, don't you come any closer.
13:06If he saw a woman, whether she was married, engaged, you know, it didn't matter.
13:14He would just go up and insert himself into the situation.
13:21Larry went to a convention and took a woman with him and they shared the same unit together.
13:27It was somewhat scandalous what's going on.
13:32This man is married.
13:33He's got a woman staying with him.
13:35Rumor was later on, it was Lori.
13:38Everybody went, that's not Bianca.
13:42You know, they all know Bianca.
13:44It was such a slap in the face.
13:47Bianca didn't know at that point.
13:49But he obviously was already having an affair.
13:53What capacity was this mill iron accompanying you?
13:58She was earned a capacity as a medical aid to me.
14:01Medical aid?
14:02Yes, sir.
14:02Okay.
14:03He would have to take her to these trips because he had a heart problem.
14:08Once more, she's a hygienist.
14:10She's not a nurse.
14:12The entire chapter was very concerned about the way this looked.
14:16But it was just the tip of the iceberg.
14:21He was even cheating on Lori.
14:23I heard stories.
14:25I've heard more than rumors.
14:29A young lady called me up one day and she said,
14:33Larry has been showing some interest in me and I've been told that he's divorcing.
14:40She said he sent her a bouquet and in the middle of the bouquet was a dildo.
14:46Larry had, from what I could see, very few scruples or morals.
14:51The extramarital affairs and lying as a president of Safari Club is completely unacceptable.
14:58I opened the investigation to get him tossed from the club.
15:03Morning, Dr. Rudolph.
15:04Morning, sir.
15:07Safari Club decided to take him completely out of the record book.
15:10And they took him out of the history so he doesn't exist anymore.
15:13Hi, I'm Dr. Larry Rudolph, president of SCR.
15:17I had seen Bianca and all of the light had gone out of her eyes.
15:32She didn't want to believe that, that Larry had done anything dishonest or unethical until
15:42things really started stacking up.
15:46She really hid it from us and she did that to protect us.
15:51It says a lot about the kind of parent she was.
15:53My mother brought out the best in him and Lori Milliron brought out the worst.
16:02Now, obviously, Bianca knew about Lori, but she still was going to help him get through
16:10the Safari Club stuff.
16:11I think she may have said to him, it was a lapse in judgment, but maybe we can fix it.
16:19And they moved up to Arizona.
16:22They had this little place there.
16:27Bianca was very protective of her marriage.
16:30She said, yes, we're working on it.
16:34She loved Larry to death.
16:37She would have done anything for him.
16:41Your primary residence in Arizona, with whom do you live there?
16:52My wife.
16:53See, we've had a property in Phoenix for a number of years.
17:03Bianca loved the Arizona house.
17:06And she made it her own.
17:08They were doing a lot of things together.
17:15Everything was going very well.
17:18And it just seemed like somebody's just flipped a switch.
17:22You see us kissing and hugging, and we're the happy couple, and we're the perfect couple,
17:27and everything's good.
17:29And, oh no, it's not.
17:31After they had thrown Larry out of Safari Club,
17:42he had sold his house and moved to Arizona full-time.
17:48So I figured, you know, Bianca had moved on.
17:51It's hard to be a manager and, you know, make sure things are running smoothly and everybody's doing what they're supposed to do.
17:56It's hard to be a manager and, you know, make sure things are running smoothly and everybody's doing what they're supposed to do.
17:56It's hard to be a manager and, you know, make sure things are running smoothly and everybody's doing what they're supposed to do.
18:21And on top of that, by herself, it was really hard and became untenable for her.
18:28We have five officers, and we're under staff.
18:33All right. Well, I'm not even going to talk to you.
18:39I feel like I'm not doing enough.
18:41I never said that. You're doing more than enough. You're working your tail off.
18:46Oh, boy.
18:49He was in Arizona. Bianca was out there with him, and then he'd swoop in to see Lori.
18:55A co-worker said, if anybody calls here and asks if Lori still works here, more specifically, his wife, tell them no.
19:08He had them by the thumb, you know.
19:10He had his thumb on both of them and control over them and money-wise and everything.
19:14Lori was so tired of being on the side.
19:26She wanted to have whatever she wanted and be able to show it off.
19:31She wanted Bianca's life.
19:35One time, she came to my house, and she goes, hey, I brought some red wine.
19:40She goes, I hope you like wine.
19:41We had a long conversation.
19:44It surprised me because she just didn't communicate with people.
19:49I felt bad for her.
19:52She had nobody to talk to.
19:54So she just opened up.
19:57She wanted to get this off her chest.
20:01She said that she gave Lori an ultimatum, and that ultimatum was to get rid of Bianca.
20:08She said she gave him boy in a year.
20:13I was like, get rid of her, like, how, or what do you mean?
20:16Divorce, like.
20:18And looking back, I didn't put anything together.
20:21I didn't like Larry, but Bianca did.
20:39So I was really hoping that they could pull it together.
20:44She said that they were going to take a trip to Zambia.
20:47You know, we're going to go away, we're going to have fun, we're going to hunt.
20:52We'll be alone, nobody's going to be around us, so there's no pressures, there's no interference from anyone.
21:01She was going to do this leopard hunt, and he was going to support her in it.
21:05If you were Bianca, you would be thinking, well, maybe he really wants to work on this.
21:09But he had other ideas.
21:12But he had other ideas.
21:39I'm sorry, I'm finding my motivation.
21:42Give me a second.
21:47I am a former U.S. State Department foreign service officer.
21:52Arguably the pinnacle of my career may have been when I was the ambassador to the Republic of Zambia in southern Africa.
21:59It's a beautiful country, has some of the most beautiful wildlife, elephants and lions and buffalo.
22:12No rhinos left in Zambia, there used to be a ton there.
22:16And there are leopards.
22:17They will kill an animal and drag it up a tree, and then you go sit there and watch it, eat it.
22:25You can be 10 feet away.
22:27It's just so, so very cool.
22:31The guides at these national parks and safari are highly trained in tracking and finding animals,
22:38and they're very good at doing it.
22:47The first time we met with Larry Rudolph, I was assigned by the Office of the Department of National Parks and World Life
22:56to go and monitor a safari hunter by the name of Bianca Rudolph.
23:03The way I love the couple, to me, I saw that they were in love.
23:08My main duty is to monitor, to check the type of animals the hunter kills you liked in the book or in the license.
23:24And she had a lot of trophies.
23:28She's one of the best hunters I've hunted with.
23:32She was killing animals with him, a single shot.
23:34So I stayed with them more than 10 days.
23:41So when you were together, you were a family.
23:44There is a lot of jokes.
23:45You share everything.
23:47They were just laughing like, you know, like a very good couple.
23:55Then we said bye.
23:56I go to my tent, and they went to their cabin.
24:04It was a calm, misty dawn in Kafui National Park.
24:24When the peaceful silence was pierced by a gunshot.
24:34Larry Rudolph.
24:36Larry.
24:37Larry.
24:37Larry Rudolph.
24:39You found your wife, Bianca Rudolph, lying down in the pool of bright.
24:45I didn't believe it, to see someone, the person you were with, maybe some hours ago, and you just see him lying down, dead like that.
24:57Well, this is a police case.
24:59So we have to go and report to the police.
25:01On the 11th of October, 2016, early in the morning, I received a telephone call telling me that a female client shot herself while hacking the firearm.
25:17The husband said it was an accident.
25:19The story, at least in the first 24 hours, seemed to have held wide, until people started digging more deeply.
25:32I started the investigation.
25:35Lawrence Rudolph said that when he came out from the shower, he found the wife lying down in a pool of blood, and a shotgun was just lying next to her.
25:46The next day, the consular chief gets a call from the cremation place, saying, oh, we got the medical examiner's report.
26:12We're going to cremate her today.
26:13Lawrence Rudolph wanted to drive the funeral paraofficial.
26:19He wanted to do things so fast.
26:21He clearly didn't want anybody to see the body.
26:24It made the spidey senses of the consular chief kind of go off.
26:30So the consular chief went to photograph the body.
26:33The next day, Larry calls, bat shit man.
26:47He's just livid.
26:50And that's when he offhandedly says, she might have committed suicide.
26:55Lawrence Rudolph said, you know, the wife had shot herself.
27:11At the police station, I tried to ask him some questions.
27:16I said, sir, how did it happen?
27:19Mr. Lawrence was not comfortable with my questions.
27:25He was even almost getting annoyed with me.
27:30So I could see that, you know, something fish has happened.
27:36But you need to do certain things, obviously, to go follow procedure, if that's the right term.
28:01But you need help.
28:05You have to turn to somebody that's supposed to be helping you, right?
28:10When I called the United States, I introduced myself to this man.
28:16They called him a consular general, I believe it was.
28:20And I said, sir, I need your help.
28:24There's been a horrible traffic accident.
28:27My wife was on safari.
28:29The consular chief got an investigation going.
28:51Larry, just looking at his career and his history, I just think he's steamrolled.
28:56He was creating the narrative.
29:01And he got the outcome he wanted out of this ambient police.
29:05The body winds up getting cremated.
29:07This is going too fast.
29:09The medical examiner's never turned a report around this quick.
29:13The police report said it was an accidental discharge.
29:17It basically says she was killed by a shot to the heart.
29:24You go on safari, and they all call you buana.
29:28Buana means boss in Swahili.
29:33Larry's the buana.
29:34So if he says this is what happened, they're going to tend to go in that direction.
29:39I think Larry took advantage of that.
29:42He is a powerful man.
29:45He's under investigation.
29:46Concluded that it was an accident.
29:49He was not detained.
29:50I was soaked with just a free person.
30:04Imagine you married 36 years, and you lost your wife.
30:11People use the word post-traumatic.
30:13I mean, I'm basically walking like a dead man, thus a zombie, through this process.
30:21I'm happy, tears, hadn't eaten in a day and a half.
30:26The trauma, the pain, the emotion is indescribable.
30:35They put down in writing their conclusion that it was an accident.
30:41They let me leave the country.
30:43I left heartbroken in Salem, but, yes, it was an accident.
31:05Julian and Anna, they were looking for Bianca and Larry.
31:10Around the time they were supposed to be home,
31:12and they couldn't get a hold of anybody.
31:15So, Anna was really concerned.
31:18She was at a dental conference,
31:20and I went over to take care of her dogs.
31:24Julian walked down the driveway,
31:26and he's like, where's my sister?
31:29You know, where's Anna?
31:30I was driving to a football game, and I got a phone call from my father.
31:44He said there was a terrible accident.
31:46And I asked him if she was okay, and he told me that she was gone.
31:57It was a couple days after she died.
32:00But my dad never wanted to talk about it.
32:06My sister and I had a lot of questions about what happened.
32:09How could this have happened?
32:11Right?
32:12It just won't ever be the same.
32:14I don't know how I'm going to go on in my life.
32:21I can't live without a mom.
32:24It's too fun.
32:29I'm broken.
32:32This isn't real.
32:33This can't be real.
32:34One of the girls that I work with came in and said,
32:41did you hear that Bianca's dead?
32:44And I'm there, oh, my God, what happened?
32:46And she said she was killed in an accident in Africa.
32:51Do you believe that?
32:51And she said, no.
32:52I said, I don't either.
32:54He could have done the right thing and just divorced his wife
32:58if he no longer wanted to be married.
33:01Unfortunately, he chose the wrong path.
33:04First thing I thought about was, he did it.
33:12I know Larry did this.
33:16We all said, Larry killed her.
33:19Larry had something to do with it.
33:23Larry was the type of person that could go to 100 to 10 so fast.
33:30But when I found out Bianca was dead,
33:32everything started to be put in place about this person.
33:38It's like, oh, my God, why didn't I see this?
33:44When I found out, I was blown away.
33:50Bianca was just a really, really nice person.
33:53Before she died, they were getting life insurance on her.
34:02She was in agreement.
34:06She signed the application.
34:08She took her medical exams.
34:11Fairly normal.
34:12The only thing that caused me a little bit of a red flag at the time
34:19was that Larry was very, very anxious about getting this done for her.
34:28But years later, when I found out that there were multiple policies on her
34:34that I didn't know about, it rose to a level of alarm for me.
34:43I got a text message from Larry that said there had been a terrible accident.
34:48The police did an investigation, and they said it was an accident.
34:59Everyone believed that it was an accident.
35:01So I assumed it was an accident as well.
35:04He had just gone through this funeral and all the stress of this whole horrible incident,
35:16and he just wanted to be with a friend.
35:23It kind of seemed natural.
35:24We just started spending time together, and eventually, yeah,
35:30at that point, we started making a life together.
35:34They wanted a fresh start without other memories.
35:42My mom moved into the house in Arizona.
35:48That was a beautiful home that he had,
35:52but we decided we would build one together.
35:56It was just sort of around the corner from the current house.
36:04It was definitely their dream home.
36:12They called it their forever home.
36:16It was the first place that they together made compromises with each other
36:21to build something that was uniquely them.
36:23I was happy.
36:28It was truly, like, magical for a long time.
36:34Years.
36:37Until...
36:39It wasn't.
36:42There's a ton of money in Phoenix, Arizona.
37:09People are showcasing their diamonds and their watches.
37:16It's just the way the culture is.
37:17It wasn't uncommon for a gentleman to come in, sit at the bar at the steakhouse
37:26and spend $1,000 on himself.
37:32Larry was a very good tipper.
37:35We were told to take care of him.
37:36Larry always had a mink or a fancy purse.
37:43Larry would always get a New York strip and a kettle martini.
37:49His passion for hunting in Africa, that's what he wanted to talk about the most.
37:54There was never a mention of an ex-wife.
37:58One night, Larry and Lori came in.
38:05Like normal, they had called ahead and we had their spots ready for them at the bar.
38:12I could sense that there was some tension.
38:16And the tension seemed to get a little bit higher than usual.
38:21The music changes songs from loud to that in-between song, quiet.
38:33He pointed his finger at Lori's face and said,
38:37I killed my fucking wife for you.
38:43Lori grabbed her purse and she walked out of the bar.
38:46It just seemed way too lifetime movie.
38:53There was zero concern with Larry.
38:57Zero concern.
38:59Never seen anyone that calm.
39:02He didn't regret saying that.
39:06Like, what does that mean?
39:09My brain couldn't even go there.
39:10Larry.
39:11Larry.
39:11Larry.
39:16Larry.
39:17Larry.
39:18Larry.
