Now, Singapore people like to eat the榴莲,
00:02
Jingfong, and we Bukok's S17.
00:06
If you eat good榴莲, it's right.
00:10
Durians. Love them or hate them,
00:12
the king of the fruits can be seen everywhere in Singapore,
00:15
except in trains.
00:18
But where do they come from?
00:19
To find out, we traveled to Malaysia,
00:22
specifically VS Farms,
00:24
located in the sleepy town of Bukok.
00:27
We're here on a durian plantation,
00:29
and today we're going to learn about how durians like this
00:32
are grown and harvested.
00:33
01:02
The season is 7th, now we have 7th, and 1th year we have.
01:08
Because when we're going to harvest, the weather is very hot,
01:13
so it becomes a 2th season.
01:15
We're in Malaysia, the weather is 1st, 1st, 1st.
01:18
The weather is very平均.
01:20
The weather is low, and the weather is low.
01:23
It's always a規矩.
01:26
Now it's not a long time.
01:28
It's not a long time.
01:30
We follow the durians from Malaysia back to Singapore,
01:34
and our journey has taken us here,
01:36
to the 99-old tree shop in Nutrim.
01:39
We're about to speak to Haetje, who's the general manager,
01:42
and we're going to find out how he's preparing for this year's durian season.
01:46
So most of our durians are from Bahang,
01:49
that's where our farms are located.
01:51
But we also take from some family farms and some friends' farms in Germany.
01:55
So most of our durians are from Bahang,
01:57
some family farms and some friends' farms in Johor area.
02:01
From Bahang, the travelling distance is roughly about 6 to 7 hours
02:06
to the Singapore customs.
02:08
And depending on the customs condition,
02:11
by the time it reached our shop,
02:13
it's usually between 5 to 7 pm.
02:17
And then right at the shop,
02:19
we have to double quick time,
02:21
chop the durian,
02:24
pack the durians,
02:26
and get them ready for delivery
02:28
and for customers to self-collect in the shop or to dine in.
02:31
Durian prices are very volatile in nature.
02:34
That is due to basically supply and demand.
02:37
So on the supply side,
02:39
depends on weather condition and pest problems.
02:42
There are some years where there are diseases,
02:44
where some tree diseases are rampant.
02:47
Then we see a lower supply.
02:49
Or sometimes we face situation like prolonged rainfall
02:53
or prolonged period of low rainfall.
02:56
And on the demand side,
02:58
it will depend on the retail conditions.
03:00
During the economic boom,
03:02
the population feels richer or more affluent,
03:08
then they will tend to spend a bit more on luxury fruits.
03:12
Regardless of their price,
03:14
durians don't seem to be going anywhere.
03:38
get up iniano fed on demand.
03:39
But we will be showing themselves
03:40
there's no focus on grocery toolkit.
03:42
And if anywww of the best trading kind of servers
03:44
are ar 쉬ed.
03:45
Everything's worth investing.
03:46
$ and $
