INS Nistar: The Indian Navy's Underwater Lifeline

00:12Built in India, ready for the deep waters. What makes INS Nistar India's most advanced underwater
00:17support vessel? This is astonishing. Look at where technology is. 4,000 rounds a minute,
00:23that's how effective it is. Well, Nistar is one of the most advanced vessels of its kind operated
00:29by any Navy in the Indian Ocean region. It's packed with a variety of gadgets,
00:35primarily focused on rescuing personnel from submarines. It's a submarine rescue vessel
00:40that are going to ensure that there are no emergencies that can unfold where the Indian
00:47Navy is not able to rescue submariners from the depths of the sea. So it's a very, very important
00:52capability accretion for the Indian Navy. What are the specialized systems that
00:56make INS Nistar a game changer? That's the deep submergence rescue vessel. It has a subsea crane
01:03there, an open bottom bell, ROVs, very important, remotely operated vehicles,
01:09close-in weapon systems, CIWS, 120 meters long. This is the most advanced ship of its kind,
01:18operated by any Navy in the Indian Ocean region. How ready is INS Nistar for emergency submarine rescues?
01:24It's fully equipped to deal with any underwater emergency to roughly a depth of around a thousand meters.
01:30When every second comes deep underwater, can INS Nistar handle medical emergencies?
01:35Nistar is like a floating hospital. It carries a variety of high-tech medical aid which, you know,
01:40it can provide, you know, emergency care. They have operation theatres there which can, you know,
01:46provide timely assistance to submariners, rescue them and provide them aid while they are far out at sea.
01:53Why does INS Nistar carry the AK-630 close-in weapon system?
01:56Nistar is a support vessel which means that it does not have any primary armament,
02:01it doesn't have guns and missiles. What it has essentially are CIWS systems like the AK-630.
02:07The CIWS means the close-in weapon systems. The AK-630 is a 30mm cannon. It has six barrels.
02:14It can fire something like 4000 rounds per minute, which is like a wall of steel. And it protects
02:20the ship from incoming missiles, drones, you know, even aircraft to a short distance.
02:26From its indigenous build to world-class capability, INS Nistar is more than just a vessel.
02:31It's a message. A message of strength, self-reliance and readiness beneath the waves.
