Are 16 year old's too young to vote.
Transcript
00:00I think times are changing because it's moving on, and I have a right to vote to 16.
00:06I think it's perfect. About time it's came now. It simply happened a couple of years ago.
00:11I used to be a youth worker in that town as well, so we had our space over there,
00:14and we were pushing for giving the city back to young people and all.
00:17We had those 16, 17, 18-year-olds in there, and their heads were clued on.
00:23About time they were sort of under politics and telling us about it, and it's in their foot.
00:28Young people are a lot more clued and a lot more mature than these days,
00:31and they're a lot more school-savvy, if that makes sense, and they're a lot more political,
00:36so I say yes, definitely, that's what I'm saying.
00:38I'm too young. No, I don't.
00:40You don't think so? Then.
00:42Do you think it's a maturity thing for yourselves? Do you think they're not mature enough to vote?
00:46Definitely not. We're hardly able to do themselves.
00:52I think this is a publicity stunt by the Labour government.
00:58If you can't buy cigarettes, I have my reservations about it, to be honest.
01:07But I can understand why young people would like to voice their opinion.
01:14Yeah, that's it.
01:15I think, like, if you're interested in it, I don't know why.
01:18Like, if you read up the word and make your own decisions, then, like, if you can drive out, line up out.
01:23I think 16's a good age, yeah. I think all the older ones are not really going to be here.
01:28I think the younger they are, the better, because then it's going to inherit the world, isn't it?
01:32My niece is 16, and so is my nephew, and they're really mature.
01:35Probably more mature than me, to be honest.
01:37So, I do think they would be a good age, yeah, definitely.
01:40No, we're not mature, but I know 80-year-olds like myself that are not mature, so...
01:46Do you think, is there possible that there's an age where your tree will be booked out?
01:50I think, see, when you get to about 80, 90, what's the point?
01:53I know.
01:54I will.
01:58So, they've earned their right to vote.
02:00Yeah.
02:01Just like the 16-year-olds have earned their right to vote by previous generations.
02:04So, they were disenfranchised for long enough.
02:06I don't think there's any age too old to vote, but in this province, unfortunately, the turnout is shocking.
02:13As long as you can put the food out, do you know what I mean? We fought too hard enough, do you know what I mean?
02:18They're not our generation, they're the generation before us, there's some rights and stuff.
02:22So, for anybody that has a right to vote, let them vote.
02:26Yeah.
