00:00Hello. Some parts of the UK will have some warm sunshine this weekend, but the main talking
00:05point will be the heavy downpours and the thunderstorms. Pinning down thunderstorms
00:10in summer, well, it's as tricky as pinning down an individual cloud. So yes, the detail
00:15still a little bit to play for. The bigger picture tells the story quite nicely. Low
00:20pressure sitting up to the northwest, but the isobar's pretty sparsely packed. And down
00:25to the south, there's a warm plume, a zone of warm, humid air that's tracking its way
00:31northwards. With the energy, combining with some moisture, that's likely to spark some
00:36thundery downpours as the winds waft those heavy downpours up from France through Friday night.
00:43Likely to wake up, of course, these dangling in the southeast of some hefty downpours.
00:46That all tracks steadily northwards through the course of the day, getting into parts of
00:51east Wales, maybe, maybe into southern Scotland also. But certainly a large chunk of England
00:57at risk from hefty downpours. May turn a bit drier across the southeast come the afternoon,
01:02but any sunshine here may spark further thunderstorms. Looking a bit drier across
01:07northern Ireland, particularly so in the east and western Scotland. May well have a fine day
01:12on Saturday. Parts of south Wales and southernmost counties of England generally enjoying sunny
01:18skies through the afternoon that will be clouding over in the far southwest. Now, the main concern
01:23is this zone of hefty downpours. Now, we've got quite a big yellow warning area for thunderstorms
01:29issued on Thursday. In this area, there is the risk of torrential rain falling onto dry ground,
01:36so that could cause flooding, lots of lightning, large hailstones and gusty winds. But as is always
01:42the case with summer thunderstorms, just because you're in this warning area doesn't mean
01:47you're definitely going to catch a downpour. They'll still be hit and miss. This is just the
01:51area that's at the greatest risk from disruption during the course of Friday night, and particularly
01:59through Saturday. With those heavy rains tracking northwards, they'll also bring quite a lot of cloud
02:04with them. It'll still be warm and humid and muggy, but temperatures won't be as high on Saturday.
02:10Reaching still 24, 25, maybe a little higher with a bit of sunshine across the far south,
02:15a little cooler further north and west as well, generally temperatures in the low 20s across
02:19Scotland and Northern Ireland, along with Wales. Those temperatures quite a bit down on Friday's
02:24values, particularly over the Midlands and eastern England by three to six degrees, maybe more in some
02:30locations. So, yeah, temperatures won't be as high, but it'll still feel pretty claggy, pretty humid.
02:36And then for Sunday, well, we look down to the southwest as the area of low pressure starts to
02:41move its way in. And around that, there'll be further bands of heavy showers and even
02:47thunderstorms. Again, the details may change of exactly where these bands of showers are lying and
02:53where we see some sunshine between the heavy bands of showers that may well spark further
02:58heavy, thundery showers because the air's pretty unstable, as we say, pretty active in terms of
03:06downpours, volatile atmosphere, likely again to produce hit and miss thundery showers. Quite
03:12cloudy in eastern Scotland with some heavier rain here and close to the low, likely to be pretty
03:17cloudy with showery rain on and off. It could get quite gusty, too, along the south coast of England.
03:22As I say, between the downpours elsewhere, there will be some sunshine and it'll still feel quite
03:27warm in the sunshine, although humidity levels tending to dip away a little bit as we go through the
03:32weekend. And it's quite noticeable if the breeze picks up along these eastern coasts. If it stays
03:36cloudy, temperatures may stay in the teens. Plenty going on then through the course of this weekend.
