00:00Ladies and gentlemen, your main event, 10 rounds in the World of Weight Division.
00:13And it's time for our main event here at Mill City Mayhem.
00:16Joseph Ruiz in the black and gold trunks taking on Rashidi Ellis in the white, turquoise, and a few other colors on those trunks.
00:24Nice outfit tonight from Rashidi.
00:26I like it.
00:27Looking to get win number 27.
00:31Ruiz coming in at 24, 8, and 3.
00:3317 of those wins by knockout.
00:35As we mentioned, Ray, a smaller fighter coming up in weight.
00:39Ruiz has campaigned over the last few years mostly between 130 and 135 pounds.
00:44He's a former title holder at 126 back in 2019.
00:47So he is smaller coming up in weight, but he did clock in at 147 yesterday on the scales.
00:52Ellis has fought as high as 54 in his career.
00:57Now really settling in comfortably at welterweight.
00:59World rated.
01:00This is where he's most likely going to be for quite a while.
01:06This is where he wants to campaign and get for that world title right now, 147.
01:10It's wide open.
01:11He just had, oh my God, I went blank.
01:18He just lost in Times Square.
01:23He beat Ryan Garcia.
01:25That's right.
01:25I'm drawing a blank as well, but you're right.
01:27The division is wide open, and Ellis has called them all out, whether it's Jaron Enos, Brian Norman, Mario Barrios.
01:33Only one loss on his record.
01:35That was to Romain Villa back in 2022, I believe.
01:41And Ellis took some time off after that.
01:43Ended up with TCL for the Boston Butchers.
01:45Last year went 11-1 with the Butchers.
01:47He's already 10-2 this year.
01:48So he has been going back and forth between Butchers and then still establishing his footing in his pro career.
01:53So he's been very busy in 2025.
01:56But they seem to concentrate on the boxing, though.
01:59When you get a cut in that one round, you've got to take some time off.
02:05It's tough.
02:05It's happened to a few fighters.
02:07It happened to, most recently, Amelia Moore, the newly debuting female sensation.
02:13She had campaigned mostly with the Butchers last year, suffered a massive cut in her 2025 debut with the Butchers,
02:20and now she's out for quite some time.
02:21So you're right.
02:22I think when you're this close to a title opportunity, it could be more productive for you to focus on one thing.
02:28But Ellis has been able to successfully, so far, knock on wood, go back and forth.
02:32And it's keeping him active, keeping him fresh between fights.
02:34As I always say, I'm more happy when you prove me wrong.
02:39Beautiful left hook by Rashidi.
02:42It's done.
02:43Ruiz right here.
02:47Ruiz, as we mentioned, last time out in April went the distance with Albert Bell, who's now 27-0.
02:52And that fight was at 135, so Ruiz capable of going rounds.
02:58Mouthpiece comes out.
03:02The referee not sure whose mouthpiece it is.
03:05But it is Ruiz's, and they've got to wash it off quick.
03:08You can throw it in, you can wash it out either way.
03:12So a quick break in the action.
03:13And that loss, by the way, that we mentioned for Ellis, was in 2023, not 2022.
03:21And that was when he had taken some time off.
03:24Coming from a very prestigious fighting family, his brother, Ronald, sister Rashida.
03:30Right now, Rashidi has been the more active of the three.
03:34You see that fancy footwork by Ellis.
03:36That's why they call him Speedy.
03:40Ruiz charging him with a couple of shots.
03:41Ruiz, that's the only way you can find Rashida.
03:45You've got to rush in and pin him to the rope.
03:48You've got to cut the ring off, and it's hard to do against a fighter that fast.
03:51But Ruiz, again, he's a small fighter, so he's got a little speed.
03:55But I don't know if he gets the butt spears, Rashida.
03:58It's hard.
03:58Not many are as fast.
04:00That's why they call him Speedy.
04:01Round one of the books.
04:02Again, this one's scheduled for 10.
04:04Take a look back here, Ray, at some of the action.
04:06You see Rashida.
04:07He sets off them three, four-punch combinations.
04:10It looks like he threw one punch, and his footwork is extraordinary.
04:15He jumps out the way.
04:16You see Ruiz trying to glue him to the rope.
04:20But you have no way of gluing him there.
04:29Ellis continuing to climb the ladder in the world rankings.
04:32Right now, number seven in the WBO.
04:35That's as high as he's been in his career.
04:37And that WBC belt that he has around the waist, that WBC U.S. silver welterweight title, keeps him in the conversation among the WBC as well.
04:47They have many title holders, and all of them, once they get established in the ranking system, can sometimes lead to opportunities.
04:55And that's what Ellis wants.
04:56He just wants a chance to go in there and possibly fight for a world title.
04:59And he feels this is his year.
05:00He's 32.
05:01This is right around the time where, you know, you want to get that chance.
05:04This is the biggest guy here.
05:05Yeah.
05:05Why does he put more pressure?
05:07Show him you're the biggest guy.
05:11Beautiful.
05:12That's good.
05:16That was going to the body.
05:20Showing off that hand speed.
05:22And we've got Ruiz who's pulled up in this weight.
05:26She, I'd see him sit down and just back up, Ruiz.
05:31Show him I'm the big guy.
05:32Don't come and get back down to your weight.
05:34Yeah.
05:39Ruiz, as we mentioned, was born in Honduras, moved to Miami roughly around 2018, 2019,
05:45and has fought mostly on U.S. soil since that time.
05:48Fought Gabriel Flores, Jr. in the bubble back in 2020.
05:55If you remember in Vegas, they had the bubble during the pandemic.
05:59Fought Henry LeBron at Madison Square Garden.
06:01So he's had some big fights, too.
06:03And he's just three and six in his last nine.
06:05But he's fought some, again, tough competition.
06:07Ellis, no stranger to that.
06:09Ellis, of course, is on that list of tough competitors for Joseph Ruiz.
06:14And Ruiz is fast.
06:20I'll give him that.
06:23Some good three, four-punch combos from Ruiz.
06:26Not much landing.
06:26And now Ruiz doing a little showboating.
06:28He covers up good.
06:30You know, a lot of the punches, it looks beautiful to the crowd that Ellis is landing in.
06:36But they're on his gloves.
06:37He's blocking it very well.
06:38See, this is where Ruiz wants him.
06:45Blue to those ropes.
06:56Ellis is sitting on these punches.
07:00This is where I can see him coming forward.
07:02Back him up.
07:02One of the things that Ellis has done that has impressed me in his Boston Butcher TCL run
07:12in his pro career is being able to adjust to the different styles.
07:15Team Combat League is one round.
07:16You've got to come out firing.
07:18You've got to remember, and it's a subconscious thing.
07:20But to come back to a ten-round fight, you have an opportunity to pace yourself a bit.
07:23It's not that same frenetic pace.
07:25And I talked to Rasheed about that.
07:27I asked him, I said, why are you jumping into the combat one-round thing?
07:34He goes, first, take me well, Coach Ray.
07:38And second, I like to fight.
07:40There you go.
07:40Third, I can adjust to anything.
07:42And he proved me wrong.
07:43He went up there.
07:44I didn't think he could do the one-round.
07:47I always said, you know, a good pro fighter adjusts from round to round.
07:52Oh, there's some shots there.
07:53Overhand right sends Ruiz into the ropes.
07:55And the mouthpiece came out at the same time.
07:57I'm seeing a return of the Mike Tyson, Buster Douglas.
08:01Yes.
08:01And I find my mouthpiece.
08:04Ruiz took two hard overhand rights after that flurry.
08:09And the second one sends to the ropes.
08:11And left Barty shot.
08:12Yeah.
08:13So great job by Ellis.
08:14As you mentioned, Ray, going downstairs to set it up.
08:17See right here, boom, Barty shot.
08:19And then those two right hands over the top landed.
08:24Good four-punch combo by Rashidi Ellis to score the knockdown at the end of round number two.
08:30And this is where Ellis begins to take control.
08:32He gets that flurry, gets that knockdown early in the fight, and then just really settles into a pace.
08:37And we'll see if, in fact, that is what happens and if Ruiz can keep up.
08:41I think Rashidi just realized, I am the bigger guy.
08:46And I'm going to back this little guy up.
08:49And I think I'm done.
08:50And that's the toughest part, Ray, I think, for the smaller footer coming up in weight.
08:54Is that play progresses, that bigger footer just wears on you after a while.
08:58Yes, he wears on you.
09:00You can see Rashidi, that left hook to the body.
09:02That's what's tied at all.
09:04Then he came back to the left up top and the right dropped him down.
09:06Like I say all the time, pick him up and make him fall.
09:13Round three about to get underway.
09:14Rashidi Ellis in a groove right now as we enter into our main event.
09:19Ray Oliveira, Michael Parenti bringing you the action here as the sweat is flying into the broadcast booth.
09:25We thank you for joining us tonight on Swerve Combat.
09:29Ellis in the multicolored trunks taking on Josec Ruiz in the black and the gold.
09:33And Ellis scored a knockdown at the close of round number two.
09:39Opening up a pretty decent lead here going into round three.
09:42And we'll see how much longer Ruiz can hang against the bigger Ellis.
09:46We mentioned, Ray, during the pre-show that Ellis more of a natural 130, 135 coming up in weight to take on Rashidi Ellis.
09:54Who, by many accounts, is a bigger welterweight.
09:56Yeah, he definitely is.
09:59I would say that.
10:00You can see the belt on him.
10:01He's got wide shoulders.
10:02His legs are thick.
10:04But if he can rampain at 147, why not?
10:07Here he goes again with the hook.
10:11Ruiz in some trouble, but he fights off the ropes momentarily.
10:14He's stumbling around that, though.
10:15Punches starting to pile up for Ellis, and so is the damage to Ruiz.
10:21And still a lot of time to go here in round three.
10:24And you're right, Ray.
10:25Ellis is well-built, wide shoulders.
10:27He's fought at 154 in the pass.
10:29And you're right.
10:30If he can maintain 147 with that size, that's going to be tough to beat for anybody.
10:34And not that size.
10:35If you put, like I always say, if you get a tank, and if it can move fast, it can blow
10:41through everything, that's what Rashidi is.
10:43He's a tank, and he's got speed, and he can move through anything.
10:49Oh, my God.
10:50That one right hook to the body.
10:52Another.
10:53As he's backing up.
10:53Another body shot by Ellis sends Ruiz crashing to his knees.
10:58And Rashidi threw that as he's backing up.
11:00It was Ruiz who was the aggressor, and Ellis with a brilliant counter to the body to get
11:07the knockdown.
11:08And now he's going for the kill here.
11:09A lot of time in round three.
11:11He's sitting on that power.
11:14Ellis starting to pour it on, scoring the second knockdown of the fight.
11:19And we'll see if he can finish and close the show here in style.
11:22Trying to get win number 27.
11:24There's another knockdown.
11:26Oh, my.
11:27If he gets up in that, yeah, he is.
11:34I'm not sure he should, and they're going to wave it off.
11:36No, referee stops it.
11:38And that will do it.
11:39Rashidi Ellis, they call him speedy, and he makes quick work of Joseph Ruiz in our main event.
11:47What a sensational showing by Rashidi Ellis.
11:49That was incredible.
11:52I mean, the speed on him.
11:53I understand I say all the time they call him Rashidi, speedy Ellis, but look at the speed.
11:59Even the cameras, the slow-mo, he looks fast.
12:04But even on slow motion, he looks fast.
12:07It's ridiculous.
12:08Two body shots in this round that finished off Ruiz, and you're right, Ray.
12:13You can watch on television, you can watch highlights, but to sit here ringside and see him up close and personal,
12:18just to see that speed from Rashidi Ellis, it's impressive no matter how many times you watch it.
12:24He is just on a sensational run right now between Team Combat League and between his pro career.
12:30And now his third win under the CES banner, and no doubt, most likely, he will move up in the WBO rankings
12:37when they start to release the July and August rankings.
12:40Be very interested to see where they slot him and what is next for Ellis,
12:44but here's another look here right at the end of this fight.
12:47He turns it right over, he's sitting on that power, and actually backing up.
12:53He steps on that back right leg and grips that left hook to the body.
12:57Great job by Ellis, let's set it up to our ring announcer, Steve Mays, with the particulars.
13:02No black cooties, we in the streets again.
13:04He don't like the tension here, so he can get the real shit.
13:07We're going to be on Gemini now, 4-5, when it's Sunday at 2 a.m.
13:10She'll pop out, 2-0, 1-8.
13:12She'll pop out, 2-0, 1-8.
13:12She'll pop out, 2-0, 1-8.
13:13She'll pop out, 2-0, 1-8.
13:14She'll pop out, 2-0, 1-8.
13:15Her baby daddy's my hand.
13:18I'ma trip out of you.
13:19I get that dick up, she might.
13:22She'll pop out, 2-0, 1-8.
13:23She'll pop out, 2-0, 1-8.
13:24Her baby daddy is my hand, I'ma trip out of you.
13:28Ladies, let me see how you're doing real quick in lines.
13:31Grabbing it over, let a nigga grab it.
13:33Everybody tripping out, yeah, it's a smash hit.
13:35Yeah, show me how you trip out.
13:37You can't do it, watch out.
13:38By the way, Ray, that welterweight you mentioned, Roley Romero.
13:42There you go.
13:45That's the fight I'd like to see.
13:46Yes.
13:47The winner of the main event at 2 minutes and 19 seconds
13:53of round number three by knockout, Speedy Rashidi Ellis.
14:10Speedy, I gotta get it.
