00:00Hello, Sir Siddhi Kahn has announced during a trade mission to Africa that the first Africa London Business Summit would be held next year in 2026.
00:15It was reported that Sir Siddhi Kahn had begun his investment trip in Lagos in Nigeria and would also visit Accra in Ghana as well as Johannesburg and Cape Town in South Africa as well.
00:30Now, the opposition Conservative Shadow Chancellor, Mel Stride, acknowledged that while cultural links were very important between London and Africa, he believed the Mayor of London should be in London with his hands on the tiller addressing local issues such as shoplifting, which has been on the rise.
00:50According to figures from the Mayor's office, Africa currently accounted for just 1.25% of foreign direct investment into London, something they think they can increase.
01:02Sir Siddhi Kahn had commented that expanding ties with Africa would be key to achieving London's international trade ambitions and potentially creating thousands of good jobs over the next five years and beyond in the capital.
01:20He also emphasised London's rich historical ties with the continent as well through its disapproval communities.
01:27The move's been backed by Foreign Secretary and Tottenham MP David Lamy, who has welcomed the event, describing London as a global city where the world comes together to do business.
