00:00i've seen a lot of covers come off cars over the years but never have i done it live on camera so

00:14i haven't seen the car that is under this wonderful sheet you can probably guess what it is it says

00:20nissan micro in the back this is the new nissan micro as i say i haven't seen it before so this

00:26is an instant reaction this could be a bit embarrassing but my wonderful assistant

00:31tamara here is going to take the cover off and this is the new nissan micro

00:43there's never anything better than seeing a car in the metal you may have seen pictures of this

00:47before but in the flesh it looks very very different and i'm going to be very honest not

00:52least because there's some nissan folk in this little room as well this does look really really

00:56good let's address the rather large elephant in the room first that this car is based on the reno 5

01:03platform and there's a lot of reno bits in here nissan will probably say they're nissan bits but

01:08trust me they're reno bits so this car to me it's like a it's like a sibling that looks a little bit

01:15like their brother or sister but you can tell that they're very different and i do really like this

01:20there's some lovely cute little features these these round bits on the uh the headlamps make

01:26it look really different it's actually longer than a reno 5. not inside but in terms of the overall

01:31length it looks chunkier than a reno 5. it looks more futuristic than a reno 5. i've always said that

01:37the reno 5 i think we might get a little bit tired of that it's a bit beetle rather than new mini uh that's

01:43not a good thing but i quite like the way this looks there's lots of details of the lights going

01:47across here the black bits this is a top spec of three different versions the nissan badge has got

01:52a bit of white in it but it it's a car that smiles seems to smile at you and it seems to be making me

01:59smile as well now importantly for this car it has been designed in the uk nissan has a big design

02:05center in paddington and that's where all the work on this car has been done and that means you get a

02:10few bits of british sense of humor in there now here's something i've just been told nissan of course

02:16the word stands for two three in in japanese and down here on the charging port this is the

02:22charging port where you press it there's two little lines there and three little lines there little

02:27easter eggs there's also little pictures of mount fuji in the boot and inside i love easter eggs but

02:33it's just kind of a sense of humor now i'm also a bit of an ice cream fan and i'm told that this line

02:40down here which is unique to the uh to the micro is called a gelato scoop in british that's an ice

02:47cream scoop yeah you can imagine somebody just kind of chiseling out the clay there with an ice

02:52cream scoop really nice 18 inch wheels so the car looks reasonably sporty this gloss black finish

02:58around the wheel arches along the bottom around the wheel arch at the back is all on every trim level

03:03and a black roof is on the top spec car i think they've done a really good job of de-renawing

03:10this car and nissanizing it is that a word it's a very british word isn't it because it's a very

03:16british design this car it's been nissanized um let's have a look and see if it's as much fun at the

03:21back it's pretty bold back here pretty cute back side nissan boldly across there the micro word these

03:29circular lights i really like all the details are in there you've got the the indicators on the

03:33outside reversing lights and everything else are there oh look there's a rear wiper thank goodness

03:40nissan's designers aren't going to tell us that the aerodynamics can do the work we don't need a wiper

03:44there's a wiper there which is good news yeah so it's it's pretty cute at the back there's a little

03:48roof spoiler let's have a look inside i'm told that is a decent sized boot does look pretty good

03:54actually some storage underneath 326 liters of space or you could throw the seats down and get

04:001106 liters all in so yeah if you do need to move a fridge you can probably do that if you really want

04:08to is that what a micro is for probably not let's have a look inside now in here this is again very much

04:19like the renault 5 but where the renault 5 is very retroistic is that a word this car is more futuristic

04:27so it's it's more restrained but it's still quite cool some nice colors on the seats and the technology

04:33is superb as well the big screen here there's two 10-inch screens one in front of the driver

04:38one for the entertainment and this is google powered so you can say hey google

04:44what car shall i buy the renault 5 or the nissan micro

04:50sorry i don't understand very political google isn't it yep i think that's the correct answer

04:57anyway it is a really attractive interior it's really comfortable same slight issue as in the

05:02renault 5 in that this the windscreen is fairly shallow and the screen at the back is fairly shallow

05:08as well the roof lining again exactly the same as the renault 5 and i'm guessing i'm going to show you

05:14but i'm not going to show you me in the back uh but space back there is probably about the same as

05:20the renault 5 unsurprisingly which is is okay people like me aren't going to sit in the back there

05:25so for kids you'll be fine and i think there's more room under this seat in here than you would

05:30probably get in a renault 5. there's some some little easter eggs you've got the mount fuji thing

05:35down here as well one thing you will like is the separate controls down here for the ventilation you don't

05:40have to go through the touch screen and there's lots of stalks here as there are in the renault so

05:45you've got stuff for adjusting the audio system these are your wipers and this is your gear selector

05:52now as with the renault 5 it's not a park so you've got to find neutral and then just put the parking

05:58brake on as well which i think is a bit of a faff it's not exactly moving things forward but is it a deal

06:03breaker no it's not but if you haven't seen a renault 5 you'll get in here and think this is

06:07really really nice because it is really really nice let's give you some facts and figures of what

06:13we can right now on the new nissan micro so same batteries as in the renault 5 it's a 40 kilowatt

06:18hour battery that will probably go just under 200 miles on a full charge and a 52 kilowatt hour battery

06:24which will probably do just over 250 miles on a full charge enough for most people now you'll be able to

06:31order the car in september the car will be delivered in january that's when the car will be in showrooms

06:37pricing well we're a little way off pricing and specifications there's going to be three grades

06:42two batteries you know you can probably look at what they call the model walk that renault does

06:46my guess and this is a guess it'll probably be sort of 22 23 000 pounds up to around 30 000 pounds

06:54it's got to be on par with the renault 5 hasn't it but the thing that has really impressed me and i'm

07:00smiling again this is a car that makes you smile you know renault have taken the retro route nissan have gone

07:06for a futuristic route now this car will drive as well as the renault 5 which isn't a bad thing

07:11it just you know you take your choice don't you do you want something that's a bit forward looking

07:15or a bit backward looking i'm gonna stick my neck out here i really like the look of this okay i've

07:20only been with it for a for a short while but it looks really quite cool and i like the futuristic thing

07:27so well done nissan for not producing a renault 5 clone and giving something a flavor that's all its

07:34own with a little bit of a british twist
