00:12The statement reads, quote,
00:14Assessing the causes of flooding must be rooted in science-based analysis, particularly in
00:18light of changing weather patterns influenced by climate change.
00:22This comes after officials from the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority, or MMDA, pointed
00:27to the DNR's Dolomite Beach project as one of the causes of flooding.
00:31Earlier this week, MMDA Chairman Romando Artes was quoted as saying,
00:35The creation of the Dolomite Beach led to the closure of three outfalls where water used
00:39to be discharged.
00:40MMDA Director Mark Navarro echoed this in a radio interview on Tuesday, July 15, saying
00:46the Manila Bay Rehabilitation Project is now blocking part of the drainage system in the
00:50area.
00:51He added, The MMDA is working on ways to ease flooding without removing the Dolomite Beach.
00:56The DNR pushed through with the Beach Nourishment Project in 2020, a 500-meter strip of crushed
