00:00If an alien civilization came to Earth and found the everyday items of extinct humans,
00:08they would likely have difficulty figuring out the purpose of many of them.
00:11Well, the same goes for many items discovered in an archaeological context,
00:15even those discovered by the species who made them.
00:18Like these stone balls from the Neolithic period found all over Scotland.
00:22They are believed to be upwards of 3,200 years old,
00:25with more than 425 of them having been found at burial sites and within towns.
00:30They are also all different in their detailed design, but no one has any idea what they were used for.

00:50These drums were also discovered in England, with five of them having been found so far.

00:57However, experts say they were not used as instruments, as they show no typical wear from such activity.
01:02Several of them were found buried with the remains of children,
01:05and their markings are quite similar to the previously mentioned Neolithic stone balls.
01:09Yet their purpose also remains unknown, just like these Bronze Age lock rings.
01:13They have often been found in pairs and could have been jewelry.
01:16However, archaeologists say they would have been very difficult and uncomfortable to wear.
