An interesting story unfolds as Liverpool put their radar on the Swede.
Transcript
00:00So, well, starting with Liverpool and Alexander Izak,
00:04obviously to be linked to him is obviously something that we've mentioned before
00:09and we've discussed that they could probably go into the Premier League season
00:12without that out-and-out number nine.
00:14I mean, in terms of the Premier League, he's probably the best,
00:17if not second best out-and-out striker in the division.
00:21I mean, just in prospect, if they are to make that signing,
00:24what would that mean for Liverpool and the way they'd have to adjust
00:27with Izak in the team because he has become this incredible goal scorer
00:33and he showed it in that League Cup final as well against Liverpool.
00:37He was fantastic on the day to get Newcastle that trophy.
00:41So, I mean, it might not come to light.
00:45It's obviously going to be a massive fee,
00:46but just in prospect to be linked at this time after already making your record signing this summer,
00:52that's pretty interesting and it shows a massive change of strategy
00:55to really try and be competitive on all fronts next season.
00:59Yeah, it's not just linked to him.
01:00It's not just like, you know, a bit of a flyer of a rumour that's gone round
01:03or Liverpool won, Izak, etc.
01:05I mean, it's there that Liverpool, if a deal could be done to sign Alexander Izak,
01:10they could.
01:10Now, it's a little bit more complicated because I think with Florian Vert,
01:15Bayern Vert by a Labour coups and probably knew that he was going to move on
01:19and he was probably ready to move on to a club, you know,
01:22the pinnacle of European football.
01:25But Newcastle are a little bit different because they've got lofty ambitions of their own
01:30with the Sardi ownership.
01:32They're very much on an upward trajectory back in the Champions League
01:37and in the gold drought, the trophy drought at Wembley last season.
01:40And Eddie Howe doesn't want to lose any more of his assets, understandably.
01:47If Liverpool could get this done, it would be massive because, you know,
01:51for winning the Premier League title, the striking position was somewhat problematic
01:56and Darwin Nunes has been in the club for three years now.
01:59It hasn't quite worked out and Liverpool probably need someone to lead the line.
02:05I'm not too convinced that Florian Vert would like to offer ace as a false nine
02:09week in, week out.
02:11Maybe he might do it now and again, but Liverpool need to go and get a focal point,
02:15someone who can be a regular goal-getter from the middle.
02:19And Alexander Isak is that.
02:20I mean, you know, he pointed out he might be the best, second best.
02:24He's different to Haaland, isn't he?
02:26Haaland, you're one-touch finisher, whereas Isak's busy.
02:30He can do a little bit of everything.
02:31He's wiry.
02:33He's difficult for defenders.
02:35He can hold the ball off.
02:37He can run in behind.
02:38He's got pace.
02:38He can take players on.
02:41There's a lot to like about him.
02:43You can understand why Newcastle maybe wants 120, 130, maybe even more for him
02:49if they are going to sell.
02:50But I think, for me, Liverpool wouldn't have lodged this informal inquiry to Newcastle if they
03:02didn't have an inkling that Alexander Isak would be open to a move to Liverpool.
03:07What's his agent doing on this behalf?
03:11Does he really want to come to Liverpool or is he using that to maybe bump up his potential
03:18new deal at Newcastle?
03:20Liverpool, it's a difficult one to say, isn't it, really?
03:24But Liverpool are flexing the muscle in the transfer market.
03:28I mean, no bones about it.
03:29They're operating from a position of power.
03:32And I think that, you know, it's a real statement.
03:35If they can't get Isak, I think a lot of supporters would like to see them go and get a new striker.
03:41Obviously, Hugo Akatika is going to play a big part in this saga, isn't he?
03:45Potential saga, isn't he?
03:47Because he's a player at Eintracht Frankfurt who Newcastle are trying to sign.
03:53Well, because he really played with Alexander Isak up front, what does that mean for then
03:57Newcastle's midfield free if you're playing two strikers?
04:00Because that was their main strength last season, the midfield.
04:04So, there's definitely a lot to go here.
04:08And, as I say, Liverpool can't get Isak.
04:10I think they'll be looking at alternative options.
