00:00.
00:06Hi, you fellow kids.
00:09It's time to go back to school, and I'm gonna get my GED.
00:13I'm trying to look young so the kids don't pick on me.
00:16And I even learned how to ride one of these.
00:18I don't know about that, Murray.
00:19No, I practice.
00:20Are you sure?
00:21Yeah, yeah.
00:22Okay.
00:23No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no.
00:26No!
00:28Somebody get a medic!
00:30Hurry! No!
00:32Somebody get a medic!
00:34Please! Stop overacting!
00:36Somebody get a medic! Please!
00:40I actually meant that.
00:42Oh. Somebody get a medic.
00:56Come on and get it.
00:58I'm a real king.
01:00I'm a real king.
01:02Say what you can now.
01:04I'm a real king.
01:06You're in the presence of reality.
01:08Come on and get it.
01:10Yeah, I'm a real king.
01:12I love our kings that had to go today.
01:16Oh, my God. Props to Alexander the Great
01:18and Pressure K.
01:20Incredible! That was crazy.
01:22Charles, how do you feel? Oh, my God.
01:24I feel like I died and got resurrected.
01:26You did.
01:28I'm so grateful I'm still here.
01:30But out there in that world of our community,
01:32I just got tired of people
01:34not respecting us
01:36as performers.
01:38People are genuinely weird to drag kings.
01:40Audiences are
01:42not expecting much
01:44slash they don't even know what a drag king
01:46is. And I hope this show
01:48can change that.
01:50It's amazing how we've become such
01:52vast, deep friends.
01:54And I think part of that is because we're all
01:56so ambitious.
01:58I have two feelings in this competition.
02:00I'm bringing something that nobody else is quite
02:02bringing. And another part of me is like,
02:04you are leagues below
02:06everyone else. So it's like, I can't believe how
02:08well I'm doing. I've been top three every time.
02:10I didn't win!
02:12Sure! But there's something about the
02:14performing that seems to be working.
02:16It's a Percocet.
02:18Yeah! Percocet!
02:20Most consistently in the bottom, double episode
02:22win, youngest contestants.
02:24You're a triple threat!
02:26Being in the bottom those two times actually helped me.
02:28I got critiqued, I got feedback,
02:30and that helped contribute to my win today.
02:32Which, honestly, I envy.
02:34Being safe, it's like I don't hear anything.
02:36You know what I mean? I don't want to be safe again.
02:38I would love to win something,
02:40even if it's a weenie challenge.
02:42And not just, like, mediocre yet again.
02:45I can't wait for next week.
02:46Time to go!
02:47Here we go!
02:48Here we go!
02:49Here we go!
02:50Oh!
02:51Oh my God!
02:56Come on everybody, let's walk to school.
03:01Oh, Triggered. What is this?
03:03AP World History.
03:04Yes!
03:05I don't know what junkyard thrift store
03:07I had to find a chalkboard in.
03:09And I'm just like, great.
03:11Back in high school.
03:12Oh, I'm feeling very activated.
03:14You're about to be schooled, huh?
03:16I'm excited and a little nervous.
03:18I was never a good test taker.
03:20The patriarchy.
03:21Okay, the only thing I agree with is JJ for prom.
03:24I was going to erase that and write all of us.
03:26Yeah.
03:27Prom, I went for about an hour.
03:28I wound up having a massive migraine.
03:30Went home and I slept for the rest of the night.
03:32That's not a euphemism.
03:33I slept.
03:34It was a mid-experience.
03:37Yo!
03:38We have shirts and a cord.
03:40Kings, please put on your school uniform.
03:43Class is about to start.
03:45Percocet.
03:46Where's my matching skirt?
03:47Toss it up.
03:48One, two, three, four.
03:49Nice.
03:50Got it.
03:51I used to be a high school English teacher, full disclosure.
03:53I was also a very good student.
03:55Straight A's, good girl.
03:56I've always had a little bit of a fetish for those desks.
03:59I love that, like, oh, it's a chair and it's connected to a desk.
04:02Can't separate them.
04:03The learning and the sitting go side by side.
04:05In elementary school, they gave me the only certificate
04:08that said student that loves to go to school.
04:11Aw.
04:12That was great until high school.
04:13I spent my high school years, like, in the closet.
04:16I felt like I could have done a lot more in high school.
04:19Probably gotten more girls.
04:20I did the standard lesbian to drag king to trans dude,
04:26which is something that should be studied, the cycle.
04:29I was also not out.
04:30So I was always really nervous about all the dances
04:32because I was like, what are you supposed to do?
04:34Huh?
04:35Fortunately, I was also an athlete because I was like,
04:37oh, sorry.
04:39Can't go to the dance.
04:40I got to go row.
04:41I'll see you guys.
04:42I was grateful to have an excuse, honestly,
04:44because not only was I not out to other people,
04:46I don't think I was even fully out to myself.
04:49What do you guys think is coming?
04:50What are we doing?
04:51Maybe we're going to get spanked with a ruler.
04:52Who knows?
04:53All right.
04:56Settle down.
04:58Settle down.
05:01Settle down, kids.
05:02Come on.
05:03Summer's over.
05:04School is back in session.
05:06Mom.
05:07I'm your new principal.
05:08Principal Hilltop.
05:09Hill for short.
05:11To be king of drag, you need good enough grades to pass.
05:15As what?
05:16That's up to you.
05:17You need to know your history,
05:19or looking at this group, your they-story.
05:22Here to help you increase your brain power,
05:25please welcome your substitute teacher.
05:27He put the D in PhD.
05:29It's Mr. Moby Dick.
05:31Yay!
05:34Thank you, professor.
05:36You've seen Venus Boys,
05:37and if you haven't, you need to.
05:38I mean, talk about an actual drag king celebrity,
05:41and drag historian.
05:42Moby Dick is one of my heroes.
05:45Thanks for filling in today.
05:47I haven't seen you since our old college days
05:49at Club Casanova College.
05:51You remember that?
05:52And those were the days.
05:53I really wanted to meet this king for a long time.
05:56Co-founder of Club Casanova,
05:58literally where drag on the East Coast in the 90s
06:02was able to find a home.
06:03All right, Mr. Dick, you take it from here.
06:05All right, kids.
06:06All right.
06:07And kids, you give them any trouble,
06:09any trouble at all,
06:12you'll all be in detention with me.
06:15Best of luck to you, buddy.
06:16All right.
06:17Well, hello, class.
06:18Hello.
06:19Now, today, we're going to have a history lesson
06:21about our forefathers,
06:23the most influential and trailblazing men
06:26to have graced the world stage.
06:28Today's lesson is on Drag King history.
06:34Yay, Drag King history.
06:36Those people literally walked
06:37so we could run across the stage.
06:40Now, Drag King history encompasses male impersonators,
06:43breaches' roles, drag kings, and the gender free.
06:48Everybody got that?
06:49Good.
06:50Because it's time for a pop quiz.
06:53How much do I know about Drag King history?
06:58Enough to hopefully win this weenie challenge.
07:01Everybody draw a pencil
07:03because you're going to be breaking into two teams.
07:05Studying was never a strength of mine.
07:07It's really hard for me to remember things.
07:09While I'm terrified of the testing portion of this,
07:12I'm a geek for the history of Drag Kings.
07:15People act like drag kinging is so new,
07:17but they are so wrong.
07:18I got schoolboy, schoolboy, schoolboy crush.
07:22I'm a homework.
07:23Homework.
07:24Homework hunks.
07:25I think my team is dope.
07:27Henlo goes all out and everything,
07:29and Charlie is quiet but also quite studied.
07:33I think we have a good balance.
07:34Crush me.
07:35My team is Dick Von Dyke and Perk.
07:39I need you a dick on my desk.
07:40Don't worry.
07:41I'm going to have to carry this entire team.
07:52Let's see who knows their drag king history.
08:13Holy shit balls.
08:17And don't even think about cheating
08:19because I have a ruler and I know how to use it.
08:22You have 15 seconds to answer each question
08:25and write it on your white board.
08:27Are you ready to begin?
08:28Yeah.
08:29Question number one.
08:30What male impersonator in 17th century France lit a convent on fire?
08:37Should we draw a picture?
08:43Time's up.
08:44Lift them up.
08:45And the answer is mademoiselle de Maupin.
08:48You both got them correct.
08:49Ooh.
08:50Nice.
08:51Mademoiselle de Maupin.
08:52She lit a convent on fire to get her girlfriend.
08:54Like, just, it feels like the stuff of legend.
08:56Drag king history is really interesting and important,
08:58and there needs to be more information out there.
09:00Drag king history begins with male impersonation in China.
09:03Who was the notable empress during that era?
09:07Lift them up.
09:08The correct answer is Wu Zetian.
09:11You both got them correct.
09:13In North America,
09:14who was the first known indigenous male impersonator?
09:19The correct answer is Gawango Mohawk.
09:22You are both correct.
09:23We just gave big D the board.
09:25The D stands for a diploma.
09:26That is one educated person.
09:28Now, we're gonna make things harder.
09:30This is a two-point question.
09:33Which drag king created and taught the very first drag king workshop?
09:39And what year were they born?
09:41Lift them up.
09:42The answer is Diane Tour.
09:44Unfortunately, it's 1948, but you still win.
09:47You get one point.
09:48Next question.
09:49Next question.
09:50There are three points on the line.
09:52What drag king ran for mayor of New York City?
09:56Name the year and how many votes they got.
09:59I know it.
10:00Go.
10:01Wait, I don't know the votes.
10:02It might have been Murray.
10:03Lift up your boards.
10:04The answer is Murray Hill.
10:06That's me.
10:08Hey!
10:09That picture was from 29 years ago, kids.
10:14Older than me.
10:16I'm pretty sure I didn't exist yet, so how was I supposed to know?
10:19But my parents lived in New York at the time, so it is funny to think about that Murray Hill almost was my parents' mayor.
10:24Homework Hunks, you get two points, and Schoolboy Crush, you get one point.
10:29Homework Hunks, you lead the pack and will now compete in our King the Dings round to determine who will be the top of the class.
10:37Being a part of this winning team with Henlo and Molasses, I feel like, ah, I had to fight against them.
10:43Okay, I signed up for this. Let's go.
10:46Principal Hilltop, join us.
10:48That's Hill for short.
10:50Yeah, we know you're short.
10:52Smurf, that's enough! One more peep out of any of you, and you're all going to detention.
11:02Are you now ready for the King the Dings round?
11:04Yeah!
11:05Let's do it.
11:06I'm nervous, because I know these two know as much as me, if not more.
11:10What is the name of the world's first weekly drag king party, and where?
11:13This Club Casanova at the Pyramid Club.
11:16And where?
11:17New York City.
11:18You're the winner.
11:19Yes.
11:20What was Lady Gaga's drag king name?
11:21Joe Calderon.
11:22Joe Calderon.
11:23What year was the term drag king first known to be in print?
11:261972.
11:27Oh!
11:28What role and year did the first male impersonator appear on Broadway?
11:321908, Peter Pan.
11:35Oh!
11:36Oh!
11:37Oh!
11:38The year was not correct, but we will give you one point.
11:41Final question.
11:42What is the first ever exclusively drag king competition show?
11:48King of Drag.
11:49Oh!
11:51That's right.
11:52Molasses, you have two points.
11:53Charles Galen, you have two points.
11:55Henlo Bullfrog, I'm sorry, you only have one point.
11:58I am proud of how much I know and how much I retain.
12:01Like, I did do some studying, you know?
12:03Time for a tiebreaker.
12:04What documentary from 2002 showcased drag king?
12:09Charles Galen.
12:10Venus Boys.
12:11Oh!
12:12Venus Boys!
12:13Everyone give it up for Charles Galen King.
12:16And that's our game.
12:19Charles Galen King, you are the top of your class and the winner of the weenie challenge.
12:26Yeah!
12:27Yeah!
12:28My younger self from fifth grade is saying, good job, kid.
12:33You have won $150 shopping spree to Good Vibes.
12:38That certificate you won that says, I love school, really matters right now.
12:43A drag king history tea taster box courtesy of Callisto Tea House in Altadena, California.
12:51And you have more money now that you're able to give to mother.
12:54A $150 gift card to Cal Sox and a box of number two pencils, actual size.
13:04Ah!
13:06Thank you all for it.
13:07All right, Mo.
13:08Thanks for giving these students some tender learning care.
13:10Everybody say thank you and goodbye to Mr. Dick.
13:13Gracias, Mr. Dick.
13:15To learn more about drag king history, check out dragkinghistory.com.
13:19Bye.
13:21Oh.
13:22Great job.
13:23First up.
13:24We've got...
13:25Oh, Jesus.
13:26Who's that now?
13:27Oh, hi.
13:28Oh.
13:29Holy .
13:30Hello, Kings.
13:33Hubba hubba.
13:34Carmen Carrera.
13:36I can't believe it.
13:37I thought fear was last week because my fear is tall, beautiful glamazons.
13:41Take it easy.
13:42Hi there, Ms. Carmen Carrera, the most beautiful school nurse in the entire world.
13:51When she's not writing fake sick notes, she hosts Drag Latina.
13:55I actually have a really important question to ask you.
13:58I'm a little nervous, so I need some help to ask.
14:01Okay.
14:02Oh, JJ.
14:03Oh, my God.
14:05I wanted a flash mob, but I'm a girl on a budget.
14:10Mary.
14:11Will you go to prom with me?
14:13What?
14:14What?
14:15Will you go to prom with me?
14:16Oh, my God.
14:17Nurse Carrera, I've got a fever.
14:18I'm hearing things.
14:19I'm delusional.
14:20What did you just say?
14:21Will you go to prom with me?
14:22Oh, my God.
14:23Oh, my God.
14:24Yes.
14:25Oh, my God.
14:26I'm going to prom.
14:27Oh, wait a minute.
14:28That's our beefy challenge.
14:29It's prom kings.
14:30Get it?
14:31Prom kings?
14:32Oh, no.
14:33For senior prom, my mother let me have a dress made.
14:34It was sort of like, mm, I'm just a lot of gold, quilty leaves.
14:37I wore, like, a long chiffon thing because I was glam.
14:40I felt pretty special.
14:41It was fun.
14:42It was fun.
14:43It was fun.
14:44It was fun.
14:45It was fun.
14:46It was fun.
14:47It was fun.
14:48It was fun.
14:49It was fun.
14:50It was fun.
14:51It was fun.
14:52It was fun.
14:53I felt pretty special.
14:54Everyone knows prom is the most important night of a lad's life.
14:59Some say prom is the moment a boy becomes a man, if he's lucky.
15:04Our prom theme is nautical night.
15:10Serve us a look that will have the kids talking after school.
15:13You know what I'm saying?
15:14From sexy sailor boys to seductive sea creatures, this formal look is open to interpretation.
15:22As always, help yourself to some elfing amazing products from Elf Cosmetics.
15:26I wish I had all that makeup when I was in high school.
15:28But that's not all, kids.
15:30You'll also give a speech explaining why you should be prom king of hilltop high.
15:37I'm just nervous about it because I have to remember a one-minute speech and I also have to try and walk on this stage and not fall.
15:43That's two things.
15:45Two things at once.
15:46Now kids, come on in.
15:47Circle up.
15:48You too, nurse.
15:49Oh my god!
15:50This challenge gives me the opportunity to reclaim prom for me.
15:55I feel much more confident and sexy in who I am now.
15:59I'm gonna just use that as an opportunity to be my own comeback kid.
16:03Three, two, one.
16:04Long live the king!
16:08Yeah, I'm a real king.
16:10I'm a real king.
16:11Welcome to the next video.
16:32Doing a prom-themed challenge, I am excited.
16:35Because guess what.
16:36I get to do prom the way I want to.
16:38And hopefully this is my last prom night.
16:40because I'm getting too old for this.
16:41I love the Philly drag scene.
16:43I think it's so cool, it's so weird.
16:45This piece for Nautical Prom was such a collaboration.
16:48Actually, I put up all of their photos here today
16:51to show the faces of everybody that helped me realize
16:55one of my greatest dreams for King of Drag.
16:57I feel surrounded and held.
16:59I have a lot of complicated feelings about my body,
17:01but when I wear this look, I feel so hot.
17:04Don't love prom.
17:06That time of my life, I just wasn't very confident
17:08in my body.
17:10There were times where I couldn't look at myself.
17:12Like, the self-hatred was so caked in, it just felt normal.
17:18I gotta tell you, I was so nervous coming in.
17:21I thought that people would think I was less than
17:24because I don't lip sync in bars,
17:26and I felt just nothing but love and curiosity and respect.
17:30That's just a beautiful surprise.
17:32The way you do drag is something
17:34that I'm glad people are seeing
17:35because not everyone wants to go to the club,
17:38can go to the club,
17:39and you do belong here.
17:40You are one of us.
17:41That's right.
17:41One of us.
17:43One of us.
17:44One of us.
17:46One of us.
17:47The thing I'm most excited about in regards to the show
17:50is the representation we're going to be able to give to our craft.
17:54I grew up Southern Baptist, and I didn't even know being gay was a thing.
17:59And the L word saved my life.
18:01Just to see that gay people existed and know that I'm not just like the only one on the planet.
18:08My parents and I never had a coming out talk.
18:12I felt like I knew how they felt.
18:14I didn't feel like there was really a lot to talk about.
18:16The show that inspired me to do drag was in Piedmont Park for Atlanta Pride.
18:21I always knew of drag, but that was the first time I saw myself on the stage.
18:26I saw WhosNowMyDragMom.com being a black drag queen in a Sailor Venus outfit.
18:31And I was like, wait a minute, I could do this and be a nerd?
18:35There's a place for me here.
18:36Sailor Moon was always falling in love with her friends.
18:38Aren't we all?
18:39Yeah.
18:40So relatable.
18:41But speaking of high school prom, I was also called Mascot, and I won't be prom queen.
18:48Okay, so dream high school experience.
18:50Yeah.
18:51But I didn't have fun because I was expecting the society idea of going to prom with a date.
18:56I was too much believing in cinema that I'm going to get my first kiss tonight.
19:01I made a prom date application to ask the only other lesbian in the school out to prom,
19:07and guess what she said?
19:08No.
19:09Oh!
19:10My mom was an experience that made gender things really clear to me.
19:15And as a man dating someone who's femme presenting, sometimes I feel like I underperform if I don't
19:20do the things that a man is quote unquote supposed to do.
19:23It's crazy when you realize that adults are telling kids what to do from a place of their
19:29own insecurities, and it has nothing to do with us as kids.
19:33Like, being out of the closet with everyone but my mom for such a long time, I had to learn
19:39to share myself with my mom as an adult.
19:41I had spent so much time hiding myself that I was then mad that my parents didn't know
19:46me.
19:47And I think through sobriety, I realized it's my responsibility to, like, share myself with
19:52my parents.
19:53So I actually produced a drag opera co-produced.
19:55Whoa!
19:56It wasn't just me.
19:57And my mom came all the way from St. Louis to Minnesota to see it, and she stayed at my
20:03house and pet my cat.
20:04And my mom doesn't even like cats, but she was like, your cat's really cute!
20:08And I was like, that's all I ever wanted to hear.
20:11One thing that would make me feel really good is if other people who were estranged could
20:19find a way to make peace and know that they are enough in their queerness.
20:25And my mom has given me that gift, and I am so grateful.
20:30When I was growing up, I had the very typical outline of becoming a doctor, lawyer, or engineer.
20:36And now that I'm here, getting praised for the work that I fought really hard to be able
20:40to do, it's hard.
20:42I was definitely a highly sensitive kid, and my parents being so driven professionally
20:49and academically, they really did not get to know my interior.
20:54My attachment to drag, it's child work.
20:58It's inner child work.
20:59The only person I'm really out to is my younger brother, and not for trying, I've come out
21:04to my mom for over a decade, and she is unable to see me.
21:11Well, she's missing out on a great kid.
21:13She is.
21:14It wasn't until I started doing drag and I had my drag family, I learned it was possible
21:19that it's like, oh wait, people can unconditionally love you.
21:22It's just nice that I'm not judged for my sexuality, but I'm judged for my zodiac sign, which is how
21:28it should be.
21:29Absolutely.
21:30And speaking of, wait, what's everyone's signs?
21:32Oh no.
21:33Yes, we're going there.
21:34I am a Gemini, no shocker there, I've been talking too much, and I'm non-committal.
21:40I've known a non-committal Gemini too, that's why I'm divorced.
21:42Oh God, don't.
21:43Oh!
21:44My mom was mad when she found out I was going to be an Aquarius, because as a hippie,
21:49she did believe in signs, and she said, Aquarians, but they're just good at everything.
21:53Well, she's right.
21:54Oh, that makes so much sense.
21:55Yeah.
21:56I'm trying not to be too cocky this time.
21:59Try.
22:00Last week, I felt so secure in how spectacular my look was, but Perk delivered something truly
22:07sublime and perfect.
22:08Perka really inspired me.
22:10I want to bring my whole self and my feelings of vulnerability and how much I've already grown
22:16in these last weeks into my speech.
22:18I am looking forward to trying to get back into possibly winning.
22:24It's important for me to swing for the top.
22:27For this look, I have a Tom of Finland inspired fit.
22:32The hardest part for me is being as bare on the runway as I'm going to be.
22:37Like, it's my body.
22:39It's changed a lot.
22:40With this look tonight, I'm not sure how it's going to go.
22:44I won last week, and it's less about keeping up my winning streak, more of let me keep showing
22:50that I belong here, and I just want to see how far I can go.
22:55It's anyone's game, and anyone can go home, and that terrifies me, excites me.
22:59I'm nervous about all of them.
23:01That means we care.
23:02Dick, what you nervous about?
23:03We're being asked to do so many things at once.
23:06It feels like we're starting to get, like, the comedy may not save me anymore.
23:11So it's like I'm starting to think, like, ooh.
23:13Now I have to think about looks.
23:14It's a scarier terrain for me.
23:16Coming from the bottom last week, I need more details and specificity.
23:22The most important thing that I can do to show that I'm a frontrunner is taking all the critiques
23:28that the judges told me last week to implement it in this week's beefy challenge.
23:33Henlo, what the up with your ears?
23:35What the ?
23:36I've got coral for ears today.
23:38Oh, yeah.
23:39When I try to imagine Henlo at prom, I don't see him having attended enough school days
23:43to qualify to go to prom.
23:45I don't see him as making good enough grades to go to prom.
23:48Oh, my God.
23:49Henlo is a train wreck, so this time he is going to be a shipwreck.
23:52The entire look has to tell this story of the shipwreck on the wreath
23:56and the treasure that is spilling out from it.
23:59Y'all written your speeches already?
24:00No, but I have some ideas in my head.
24:02How about you?
24:03I have some ideas in my head.
24:04Aye.
24:05For this challenge, I am the black spot.
24:09Because every pirate's worst nightmare is having the plague, the black spot from Davy Jones.
24:14My reference for this challenge is, like, yeah.
24:17It's very nautical, but it's a deep reference.
24:21Creature is not what I do.
24:22Like, actually, like, prom king pretty boy is most of what I do.
24:25But it's, like, the creature element is just, like, how would pretty boy dick impersonate vampire squid
24:31to where I don't end up looking like an umbrella?
24:33So we'll see.
24:34I love that you chose to opt out of what you're saying that dick might normally do.
24:38I think that's what this competition is all about.
24:40My biggest struggle so far in this competition is my anxiety taking the wheel of the bus,
24:46and then my showmanship not being able to shine through.
24:49Whatever I do, I want to do it confidently.
24:51Tonight, I'm also doing something a little bit different, and I'm going to be serving some fish.
24:57That's a pun.
24:58No one's canceled me.
24:59That's a pun.
25:00I wanted to kind of tap into the feelings I had during my senior prom and just say,
25:04screw it, Agenda Girls, crash the system, hoping it all ties together.
25:08Because in my head, the idea is great, but it could not be great.
25:13Hello.
25:14Hey.
25:15How are y'all doing today?
25:17Hey, my video. Good to see you, friend.
25:20Great to see you.
25:21So, Charles, last week you were on the bottom.
25:23Right.
25:24And this week you won the mini challenge.
25:26So you're back on the rise in tonight's challenge.
25:29What are you worried about?
25:30I'm worried about not fully showing myself.
25:33There is still a wall, but I'm breaking down the walls because walls, borders.
25:38I've always felt different.
25:40Like, I don't fit anywhere.
25:42But drag gives me a release.
25:44And I've had people ask me, who's Charles Galen King?
25:47Like, it's me, but it's not me.
25:49It is who I am and who I'm still aiming to be.
25:52You might have to break that wall brick by brick.
25:54I mean, it's almost sorry we're throwing bricks.
25:56We broke that wall down.
25:59Do you feel pressure?
26:01Oh, that's a good answer.
26:03Breathing.
26:04Breathing is always a good thing.
26:05People often see the end product, but they do not see this.
26:11I have aimed for perfection every week.
26:13In this, I get to show off the way I can airbrush some very difficult materials.
26:18Because I'm airbrushing lace, I'm airbrushing foam, and I'm airbrushing hair.
26:22Now, the judges have given you some comments, you know?
26:25Absolutely.
26:26So how will you add finesse to your makeup, to your costume, to your looks?
26:31It's interesting.
26:32I mean, like, I'm not a clean king.
26:34Like, I'm a messy king.
26:36I'm happy about my look today.
26:38I think it's, like, elevated for me.
26:40I look forward to seeing how you elevate.
26:42Take care.
26:44All right, everybody.
26:45Best of luck.
26:46And I want you to own that stage.
26:49All right?
26:50Knock them down.
26:51Bye, fellas.
26:52See ya.
26:53I gotta be honest.
26:54Be honest.
26:55Like, and maybe this makes me, you know, a big loser.
26:59But, like, I don't...
27:02I just gotta be me.
27:04I care about my art too much to do it any other way but mine.
27:10And this feels like an opportunity to do, like, exactly what I want to do.
27:16I'm not about being flawless.
27:17And I don't even think I want to be flawless.
27:19Because I think that so much drag is perfection.
27:22Like, you see all this perfection and you think, like, I could never do that.
27:25And I guess I want to just open the door.
27:27Like, maybe you don't have to be perfect and still have a place here, you know?
27:32Yeah.
27:33If that means that the judges are like, that's not what we're looking for,
27:35go get what you're looking for, judges.
27:37I'm here to be a messy-ass man.
27:39Yeah.
27:40Like, that's what I'm...
27:41Because men are messy.
27:42Yeah, men are a mess.
27:43Absolutely.
27:44That's the story I'm telling.
27:45I love my look.
27:47I'm like a salty sea captain and I elevated the look.
27:51But it's still my crunchy-ass clown drag.
27:54Also, like, does my look give prom?
27:56I made a boutonniere.
27:58Oh, the test plate.
28:00Buckwild, we love you.
28:01I'm going to be very sexy today.
28:03I just can't believe how attracted to Big T I am in this suit.
28:08I'm like, how old is this guy?
28:10Like, you cannot be in the 10th grade.
28:12I feel perfect.
28:19I'm dying to bring it to the judges.
28:21Let me at that stage.
28:42Welcome to Nautical Nights at Hilltop High Auditorium.
28:56Chapters look a lot like the Roy Hall.
28:58Tonight's our favorite night of the year, prom.
29:02But first, let's meet our chaperones for the night.
29:05Gym teacher and assistant softball coach, Mr. Tenderoni.
29:11AP quantum physics teacher and co-chair of the after-school knitting club,
29:17it's Miss Sasha Velour.
29:19Custodian and assistant scoutmaster, Jackie B.
29:24Art teacher specializing in paper mache and ceramics,
29:28Mr. Brian Michael Smith.
29:31And lastly, my prom date,
29:33our school nurse and sex ed teacher, Miss Carmen Carrera.
29:40Dressed to the nines in salty, barnacled,
29:43and seaworthy formal wear,
29:45give it up for a parade of seamen.
29:49Our first contestant for prom king, Percosex.
29:53I stand before you today with the bravery
29:56to be a gay-ass, socially awkward fish in a big school.
30:01This bravery did not hatch overnight.
30:04There were times I felt like I was not up to scale.
30:07But even though I felt like a fish out of water,
30:09it was with the love of my chosen family, of my brothers here.
30:13I now have courage.
30:15And I hope you see that courage
30:16and you give me the honor of being the Nautical Nights prom king.
30:20But most importantly,
30:21if you ever just want some fish stick a la Perk,
30:24I'm there for you.
30:26I promise it's not too crummy
30:28and it smells pretty great.
30:30I hope my bit lands because
30:33do y'all like fish sticks?
30:35You like putting fish sticks in your mouth?
30:37Are you a gay fish?
30:39You never have too much tartar sauce.
30:42She's vegan.
30:43She's vegan.
30:44But I'll try anything once or twice.
30:47Or twice.
30:50Next up, Dick Von Dyke.
30:54A vampire squid has ten legs.
30:59Ooh.
31:01You can see nine of my legs on display for you tonight.
31:05Oh, yes, that's a goal.
31:07Yes.
31:08But they would not allow me to show my tenth on TV.
31:13Octopus transform themselves using color, using texture.
31:19I aspire to transform myself from just another squid in the sea
31:24into your nautical prom king.
31:28I feel proud of myself, even if it ended up kind of funny.
31:32That's what the judges want to see from me at the end of the day anyway.
31:39Next up, Henlo Bullfrog.
31:43Vote for me for prom king because I prove that learning and change is possible.
31:47Don't trigger yourself for the sake of a performance
31:50and don't choose your art over your health.
31:53I'm ashamed to say that I have not always followed these rules myself.
31:57There is a concept in alchemy where in order to change an element,
32:00the alchemists themselves must have an emotional change.
32:04I started at the bottom in this competition
32:07and have risen through the tides ever since.
32:10Tonight, I feel like alchemy.
32:12Wearing this, I feel like magic and I feel like the proof
32:15that being a lifelong student can make you succeed in anything.
32:19Also, I've been selling counterfeit prom tickets in the parking lot
32:23and I've made some money and I'm willing to pay you for your vote.
32:25Here's some frog coins.
32:26Money.
32:28I'm so proud of my speech.
32:29I know I'm taking a risk by speaking not fully in character,
32:34but as me, as my whole self, not just as Henlo but as Joy too
32:38and acknowledging every week that I've been in the competition so far.
32:44That was cool. That was so cool.
32:47All right, check out Charles Galen King.
32:50In every young black spot man's high school career, the moment of peace is never there.
32:59The need to curse and infect fear in each varsity pirate man's life is the will of Davy Jones, my father.
33:09My father.
33:10And winning prom king will not only make my father peaceful and proud, but chain and cement my place in scoring the octopussy of my siren girlfriend, Lilith Liana.
33:25Plague you baby. Plague you.
33:31I feel like the coolest black spot greaser in this high school.
33:34Big D.
33:45That's a big pipe.
33:46Big D.
33:47Yes.
33:48They call me Captain A-Fab.
33:51Been in high school a long time, gotten mostly C's, but they've been high C's.
33:58The truth is, I haven't really been captain much of anything.
34:02Not captain of the football club, the debate squad.
34:05But you know, I learned something tonight.
34:08I learned that if I just stay the course, follow my North Star, maybe even I can get to my destination.
34:20And maybe they'll let me keep my leg and my third leg.
34:24That's a Moby Dick great American novel.
34:26Anyway, I'll see myself out.
34:28I think it went well.
34:30I feel like I heard some laughter.
34:31I don't know, maybe I brought something interesting and I think my speech was really good.
34:38It's time for King Molasses.
34:56I thought it would be an interesting choice to just keep the bulgak in my mouth.
35:01I'm hot.
35:02Thanks for voting for me.
35:03I feel the energy of the judges.
35:04I think they're like, oh wow.
35:05I feel the energy of the judges.
35:06I think they're like, oh wow.
35:07This is one hell of a tight race.
35:08We're down to the final six.
35:09This is one hell of a tight race.
35:10We're down to the final six.
35:11This is one hell of a tight race.
35:15We're down to the final six, which means no one is safe.
35:16Let's hear from the King's Court.
35:17This is one hell of a tight race.
35:18We're down to the final six, which means no one is safe.
35:22Let's hear from the King's Court.
35:23Tenderoni.
35:24Tenderoni.
35:25Big D. I really loved your presentation.
35:26This whole, like, long John Silver high school burnout was really, really good.
35:29I did notice the shoes.
35:31I like the gold that you added to them.
35:58and the rhinestones on the knees,
36:00so you did a really good job.
36:02It feels really good to hear Tenderoni see growth.
36:05There was so much to learn,
36:07so I'm always trying to learn as much as I can.
36:09I'm always sponging.
36:12You were my favorite.
36:13You are naturally entertaining.
36:15Even though the look wasn't exactly giving prom,
36:18your speech took us to the universe
36:20in which this character is eligible for Prom King.
36:23I loved it.
36:24It was an absolute masterclass.
36:26Thank you so much.
36:28Dick Van Dyke.
36:29I love the look.
36:30I love the silhouette.
36:31Maybe it is one concept too many.
36:34Oh man, I really, really enjoyed your physicality.
36:37You worked the whole stage.
36:39This concept, definitely gay prom and nautical,
36:42but it does seem like familiar territory.
36:45I feel like we've seen a concept like this before,
36:47like pirate.
36:48Dick Van Dyke got good critiques,
36:50but I also heard that his concept was repetitive
36:52and they wanted to see something different.
36:54Am I safe?
36:55I feel like I am.
36:56Charles Galen King.
36:58I really, really like your swagger tonight.
37:01I feel like your character, you have stayed in it
37:03since we saw you step on the stage.
37:06Is your concept oil spill,
37:08or do you want to elaborate more on what it is?
37:10I am the black spot.
37:11Every pirate's worst nightmare out on the sea.
37:15I curse to make them follow my father's rules,
37:19who is Davy Jones.
37:21We are not pirates, the secret's out.
37:24I do not know what the black spot is.
37:25We're all guilty of this.
37:27Sometimes the references that are completely obvious to us
37:30maybe don't always translate to everyone.
37:32But I feel the prom,
37:34you're giving me very much like king energy.
37:36Thank you so much all.
37:39Head and Lobe Bullfrog.
37:40I love this look.
37:42Obviously, you are a passionate drag performer.
37:46The wig and the headpiece alone is just like, wow.
37:49Everything looks amazing,
37:50and I'm happy that I get to keep this little souvenir.
37:53I'm going to take it home.
37:54So wait, is the Latin word for fart, um, flatimus?
37:58Yes.
37:59Perfect.
38:00I'm going to get a t-shirt made with that.
38:02A neoprene tuxedo is probably like my worst nightmare
38:05as a fashion creation,
38:07but it makes sense for the nautical theme.
38:08We've got the scuba material.
38:10You are selling it.
38:11The body shape is right, as always.
38:13And you took a huge risk with the speech
38:16to not give us a character, but to speak from the heart.
38:18And I think it really paid off.
38:19It was moving and powerful.
38:22I loved it.
38:24I'm looking at Hendel's full fit,
38:25like down to his ears, and I'm like, well,
38:28looks like I'm a bottom feeder.
38:30King molasses.
38:31Your performance for me was like the most powerful
38:35because it like really locked me in.
38:38Every movement that you made was so conscious.
38:41I love the flexing.
38:43Like, I'm in the gym too, babe.
38:44I'm trying to get like you, okay?
38:47Now, if we're speaking in terms of the challenge,
38:50I would have loved for it to be a little bit less leather daddy.
38:54I was looking for the nautical
38:58and did it completely nail prom.
39:02I don't know if a jacket is enough.
39:04And it was a very bold choice to do the speech with the gag in,
39:07you know, trying to like figure out, like, where are we going with it?
39:09Can you talk me through the concept of this look in your own words?
39:14What I wish I actually said in the speech, which is that I was not hot in high school.
39:21I was actually quite quiet.
39:23I wanted to show as much of my body as I could.
39:25I've never been topless.
39:26This is the second time I've used trans tape.
39:29And it was actually quite emotional for me to get into this space.
39:34I was not a sexual person up until like sophomore year of college
39:40just because like I thought I was not worthy.
39:43And now I can look back and be like every version of me has never been ugly
39:48and has never not been worthy.
39:50Thank you, Molasses.
39:51I think that experience is so universal for so many queer people.
39:56Who among us hasn't dreamt about being a Tom of Finland fish?
39:59You always make such interesting choices that I'm excited to see,
40:02but I think you could have tied them to the theme a little bit more explicitly tonight.
40:06Absolutely.
40:07I love this outfit. I think it embodied the challenge perfectly.
40:13It's campy. It's gay as hell. It sparks joy.
40:17The reveal, I got to be honest, you were opening and I thought something was going to come off.
40:23It seemed a little anticlimactic.
40:25I'm sorry I didn't climax.
40:27You are just one big dad joke, first of all.
40:33I was just like a little confused.
40:35I would have almost wished like you didn't do that part because for me, you would have been like the best.
40:39My performance might have flopped, but I did follow the prom theme.
40:44I was giving prom down house boots.
40:46I hope it was enough to keep me in the competition.
40:49Thank you, teachers and custodian beat.
40:52Kings, you may return to the man cave while the king's court deliberates.
40:59I feel like I executed the look well, but honestly, hearing the judge's feedback, I'm pretty unsure.
41:05Yeah, I'm a real king.
41:16Tonight we have to decide one winner and two people to send into the final thrust.
41:21Big D did not give me one drop of prom and I don't care.
41:27I don't care at all.
41:27It was so good.
41:29The speech is a performance and that was entertaining.
41:33Drag is not really about spending lots of money on looks.
41:36It's about the story that you tell with it and that Big D brought it home for that reason.
41:39I agree.
41:39I think between Big D and Henlo, it's like you have character versus craftsmanship.
41:46Henlo, just the choices.
41:48Everything was aesthetically pleasing.
41:50Even the ears.
41:51Like, I mean, did you see the ears?
41:53And they were asymmetrical.
41:54Yes.
41:55It was gorgeous.
41:56Everything perfectly blended.
41:58I don't know about you guys, but I'm nervous.
42:00I'm ready to prep for this final thrust.
42:02I think I'm in it.
42:04I'm really torn between Molasses, Dick Von Dyke and Percosex.
42:10Percosex, I'm always rooting for him because he's got such great energy and such a great personality.
42:16Honestly, I wish that he didn't have that prop presentation because I think it hindered him.
42:21I don't know.
42:22Squirting that tartar sauce.
42:25It's going to haunt my dreams.
42:26Yeah.
42:26As many things he has done on the stage I have.
42:30You know, I'm like obsessed with Dick Von Dyke.
42:32It's just it for me.
42:33I just love the energy.
42:34I love the character.
42:35I love the dedication.
42:36But the look for me just like wasn't top tier.
42:40The costume felt a little like rented costume shop.
42:43Molasses was gorgeous, but it didn't nail the theme.
42:49And it didn't rise to a point where I didn't care that it didn't nail the theme.
42:54Yeah, I really wish that he leaned more into the prom look because the presentation was just so crazy amazing.
43:01Charles Galen King's look was a little more confusing for me than I would have liked.
43:05I really love the energy, the swagger, the riz, if you will, if that's what the kids are saying.
43:09It was there.
43:10I also got confused with what the look was giving.
43:14Even when he explained it, it was a little like, what?
43:18I now realize I go too deep in my references.
43:26This has been really tough, but I think we've come to our decision.
43:29I have to say, I don't enjoy this process.
43:34Kings, welcome back.
43:36The time has come to name the winner of this week's episode.
43:41Sasha.
43:42Henlo Bullfrog, your coral reef was beyond belief.
43:47You wrecked it tonight in the best way.
43:50Big D, you cast a wide net and you reeled us in.
43:55The winner of this week is Henlo Bullfrog.
44:00Prom King.
44:05Winning.
44:07It feels good.
44:09I want to say it feels right.
44:10Congratulations, King.
44:12This means that you are first in line for the throne.
44:16And Big D, you are also safe.
44:19Sasha.
44:20Dick Von Dyke, you are also safe.
44:29Shocked.
44:31Shocked about being safe.
44:32Can't believe it.
44:33I'm like, there's no chance.
44:35Now the hard part.
44:37Tenderoni, who will be facing off in the final thrust tonight and be up for elimination?
44:45Percosex, your fish stick left us wanting more.
44:50King Molasses, your presentation and your body was bomb, but we wanted more prom.
44:57Charles Galen King, your black spot left us confused.
45:05Charles Galen King and King Molasses, I'm sorry, but you are up for elimination.
45:13This situation sucks.
45:14I don't want to go up against Charles, but I really need to win this final thrust.
45:20Percosex, that means you're safe.
45:23Phew.
45:24I'm excited.
45:25I still get to be here another week to fight and come out on top.
45:29Charles Galen King, King Molasses, must go head to head in the final thrust.
45:36You're final thrust challenge is to come up with an original cheer for Hilltop High.
45:45You will have 20 minutes to write and choreograph your cheer. We'll provide pom poms and a uniform.
45:52It's scary to be against Molasses because the weeks prior he's been on the top.
45:58I still gonna fight to the very end and try my best and darndest.
46:03Give me a G. Give me an O.
46:06What does that spell?
46:07No.
46:07Go, get to work.
46:10Yeah, I'm a real king.
46:16This is the final thrust.
46:25Tonight, King Molasses and Charles Galen King were tasked with coming up with an original cheer.
46:32Hey, I just need to get some lyrics down quickly and then I can figure out who I'm going to be
46:40as I am cheering.
46:41Murray Hill is top bill.
46:44I feel more confident in myself in this thrust challenge because
46:48I was a mascot in high school for three years.
46:51Yes, I know how to do this.
46:56By luck of the draw, Charles has been chosen to go first.
47:00You ready?
47:05Okay, hilltop high can't be beat because Murray Hill is top bill.
47:14Packers, bulges, aviators, we climb high like the Chrysler Elevator.
47:22Yes, hilltop high.
47:25My cheer was grand.
47:32It was creative.
47:33Every time I'm on that stage, I just have a big old smile.
47:36I think that's why I'm always exhausted because my cheeks always hurt at the end.
47:43And now King Molasses.
47:49I feel pretty confident about my cheer.
47:52I need to prove to the judges that I deserve to be here.
47:56I'm not a cheerleader, but I'll give you a cheer.
47:59You know, pom-poms.
48:00I mean, sure.
48:01Let's go.
48:02H-I-L-L.
48:04Just look up.
48:05I know you will.
48:07We on top.
48:09That's hilltop.
48:12Legions and nephews.
48:13Hey, listen up.
48:14Here at Hilltop, we know how to thrust.
48:16Murray got her back, so we moving through.
48:18Hey, it's King Molasses.
48:20You know what to do.
48:21H-I-L-L.
48:23Just look up.
48:24I know you will.
48:25We on top.
48:27That's hilltop.
48:30Peace.
48:37Well done, Kings.
48:38You have made Hilltop proud.
48:40But tonight, one of you will be suspended indefinitely.
48:44Court, you will now vote on who will stay.
48:49Tonight, the judges have reached a unanimous decision.
48:56You both did excellently, but we have voted to save King Molasses.
49:06King Molasses, congratulations.
49:08You are safe.
49:09Your pursuit of the crown continues.
