00:00Just days before the President faces the nation, a different kind of report is making waves in public markets as prices of premium imported rice continue to slide, now down to just 43 pesos per kilo.
00:11The Department of Agriculture says this 15-peso drop in less than a year is helping ease inflation, a timely gain that consumers are feeling where it matters the most, at the dinner table, as Arvel Custodio reports.
00:22Rosalie is buying NFA rice at 20 pesos per kilo at Camonim Public Market, but since there are five members in her family, she also buys additional varieties of rice to meet their needs.

01:04According to Department of Agriculture Assistant Secretary Arnel De Mesa, in less than a year, the maximum suggested retail price of premium imported rice has dropped by 15 pesos, a significant factor in slowing down inflation, especially for rice, which has recently recorded negative inflation.
01:21Since January, the MSRP of 5% broken premium imported rice was set at 58 pesos per kilo. Starting today, it has been reduced to 43 pesos.
01:30Sa MSRP, we started, kundi ako nagkakamali, 58, tapos naging 55, tapos naging 52, and then naging 48, naging 45. Ngayong July 16, magiging 43. From 58 to 43, that's a 15 peso drop.
01:50Ibig sabihin, more than 1 peso every month, na drop ng presyo ng premium imported grade rice natin, which nag-pull down din doon sa presyo ng regular at 12 mil.
02:06Before the MSRP was implemented for premium imported rice, prices reached as high as 60 pesos to 70 pesos per kilo.
02:14The Agriculture Department says that since the MSRP was in force, the Philippines has become more aligned with falling global rice prices.
02:21In the upcoming State of the Nation address, one of the expected key highlights is the slowing down of food inflation, especially in rice.
