00:00A quick pit stop for these soldiers in northern Taiwan
00:05as they conduct maintenance on a tank.
00:08It might not be the flashiest of drills,
00:09but it's skills like these that will make the difference in a combat scenario.
00:14A lot of these drills are making use of public spaces like temples and schools
00:18to gather and store munitions.
00:21This high school in northern Taiwan is serving as a mini base for soldiers in Taoyuan.
00:30This is day 8 of Taiwan's largest ever military exercises, known as the Hanguang,
00:43which simulates how the country would defend against a full-scale attack from China.
00:48Hanguang ends on Friday,
00:50and the final few days will focus on an attack deep inland,
00:53simulating the worst-case scenario,
00:55an enemy landing and making inroads into Taiwan.
00:58That's why analysts say having a backup plan
01:01is crucial for the country's defense.
01:15Whether it's late-night urban warfare,
01:20coastal defense,
01:21or protecting critical infrastructure,
01:26Taiwan's military is making sure it has everything covered to prevent,
01:30or if necessary,
01:31repel a possible attack.
