Bridgnorth on the hunt for Shropshire Artists.

A group has been formed in Bridgnoth that exhibits artists work around the town in different venues, and is putting the call out for artists further afield that Bridgnoth to come forward. They are looking for artists within a 15 mile radius of the town. We join them at a current exhibition at Bishop Percy's Tea Room to find out more.

00:00We're here at Bishop Percy's Tea Room in Bridgenorth and we're with Ellie. Hello Ellie.

00:05Hello.

00:05So this is some of your work isn't it?

00:07It is, yes.

00:08Lovely picture, where was this taken?

00:10This was taken on the Thai-Cambodian border. I used to travel quite a lot and why I decided

00:17to print my own photos was because I just had thousands and thousands on my laptop so

00:23I thought I'd do something with them.

00:24So we're in Bridgenorth, a lovely town, lots of lovely cultural things happening but no

00:29art gallery?

00:30No art gallery. Well, we do have a very small one, I will say that. A lovely man owns it

00:36and teaches art there.

00:38Ah, Stoneway.

00:39Yes.

00:39Ah, yeah, yeah.

00:40But we don't have a space for local talent to show their work.

00:44So you and a few other people formed a group, what's that called again?

00:48It's called Bridgenorth Arts Community and together we arrange exhibitions throughout the year

00:54for people within a 15 mile radius of Bridgenorth to show their work. That's including 2D and

01:023D work.

01:03So your work here features in an exhibition currently at Bishop Percy's. That's one of

01:07the venues you've got on board.

01:09Yes, that's right.

01:09But we're putting a call out, aren't we? As well as kind of, you know, getting the word

01:13out, get yourself down to Bishop Percy's. It's lovely for a cup of tea and have a look

01:16at the art. Also, the purpose of this meet up today is you're putting a call out really

01:21for a wider audience to capture more artists, yeah?

01:24Absolutely. We did put out a call a few years ago and we got lots of people coming through

01:31then but we would like you to contact Bridgenorth Arts Community. We have a Facebook page.

01:37If you could please contact us through there, we would love to hear from you. We have other

01:42venues available at the moment and we would like to show your work.

01:46So it's just to expand that range of artists, really.

01:50Absolutely, yeah.

01:51And how far are we looking? Basically, if you're a Shropshire-based artist, does that

01:56tick the box?

01:56Shropshire-based, we'd prefer people to be within, like I said, about a 15 mile radius

02:02of Bridgenorth simply because there are lots of other venues in Shropshire. It's just Bridgenorth

02:07that's lacking.

02:08Yeah, yeah. Great stuff. So you've heard it here first. Guys, if you've got a lot of

02:12you're a budding artist and got some work you think's worthy of being displayed, get

02:17in touch with the guys here. And yeah, Bishop Persies is a great venue. What other venues

02:22have you got on board?

02:22We now have the library. We also have two others that are in talks but we need, also

02:29we would look for volunteers who would like to curate a venue because we have two venues

02:34already that are looked after by two of our volunteers. So if you're interested in that

02:40also please let us know.
