South Australian Sergeant Michael Hutchison, injured in a shooting which killed his colleague in 2023, says he doesn't hate the shooter, but he never wants to see him again. Jason Doig was killed in the incident in South Australia's south east, with 27-year-old Jaydn Stimson found not guilty of his murder by way of mental incompetence.

00:00South Australia's Supreme Court has today heard details for the first time of what happened on the night Stimpson shot and killed Brevet Sergeant Doig at a property at Senior north of Bordertown.
00:14The court heard several victim impact statements including those from the two police officers who witnessed the deadly shooting.
00:21Stimpson was also charged with the attempted murder of Sergeant Michael Hutchinson who he also shot.
00:28Today Sergeant Hutchinson who has known Stimpson since he was five told the court he doesn't hate him but wishes to never see him again.
00:36The court also heard a victim impact statement from Senior Constable Rebecca Cass who was also present at the property at the time of the shooting.
00:44Senior Constable Cass described rendering assistance to Brevet Sergeant Doig after he was shot twice, once to the neck and once to the chest.
00:53Both officers described the grief they have experienced since the night of the shooting and how it has changed their lives forever.
01:00The court also heard victim impact statements from Brevet Sergeant Doig's family as well as a statement from the Lucendale community who remember him for his involvement in the community beyond his police duties.
01:12Police Commissioner Grant Stevens also delivered a statement on behalf of the SA police force in which he described the impact such tragedies have on the force.
