00:00Have you ever heard of a place called Centralia?

00:02Probably not!

00:03And that's because there is no place like it anywhere in the world.

00:07It's a town without people.

00:09A city without citizens.

00:11It sounds like a spooky horror movie.

00:13But it's real life.

00:14On the surface, this is a normal town.

00:17Or at least it looks like it.

00:18There are paved roads, street lamps, and even some cars parked on the side of the road.

00:24But if you look around, you'll soon realize that something isn't right.

00:28All of the buildings are abandoned.

00:31The shops are closed and nature has begun to reclaim the town.

00:35Vines and trees have overtaken the buildings and the streets are covered with weeds and grass.

00:40It looks like a scene from a post-apocalyptic movie, but it's not.

00:44This was once a thriving town of over 1,000 people.

00:48But today there isn't a single soul to be found.

00:52So what happened here?

00:54Where did everyone go?

00:56And why has nobody come back?

00:57Well, that's what we're going to find out in today's video.

01:07Deep in the heart of Pennsylvania, Dutch country sits the town of Centralia.

01:12The town was established in the early 1900s and was named after the nearby Cole Township.

01:17At its peak in the 1950s, the town had a population of over 1,200 people.

01:23There were two schools, two churches, several stores, a hotel, a bank, and even a movie theater.

01:31But then slowly, things began to change.

01:35In the 1960s, the town's main employer, the Centralia Mine, began to run out of coal.

01:41As the mine ran out of coal, they began laying off workers.

01:45With fewer jobs available in the area, many of the town's residents began to leave in search of work elsewhere.

01:52By the late 1970s, the mine had closed down completely, leaving almost everyone out of work.

01:59Today, there are only about 100 homes remaining in the town, most of which are owned by descendants of the town's original...

02:07But that raises another...

02:09If the town was abandoned in the 1970s, why are the buildings still standing?

02:15Why haven't they been torn down yet?

02:18Well, that's because of one very strange thing.

02:22A hidden door in the old clock town...

02:24Legend has it that if you find the door and open it, you will be granted eternal youth.

02:30Granted, no one has ever found a door.

02:33That is until now.

02:35Grab your flashlight and prepare to enter the mysterious clock tower.

02:40Welcome to the abandoned town of Centralia.

03:03There isn't a single person or animal to be found anywhere.

03:07It's like everyone just vanished into thin air.

03:10Nature is beginning to reclaim the town.

03:13Trees and vines are overtaking the buildings and the streets are covered with weeds and grass.

03:18It's hard to believe that this was once a thriving town of over 1,000 people.

03:25But it's true.

03:26If we head over to the old school, we can see how far nature has progressed here.

03:30The roof has completely collapsed and the walls are covered with graffiti.

03:34But what's really amazing is that the school is still standing after all these years.

03:39Most of the buildings in the town have either fallen apart or been demolished.

03:43But the school is still standing strong.

03:45It's a testament to the quality of construction that went into the building.

03:50But it's also a reminder of the town's sad past.

03:53Here's another interesting building in the town.

03:56The old Centralia Hotel.

03:58It was built in 1904 and was the social center of the town for decades.

04:04People would come from all around to stay at the hotel and enjoy its fine dining and live music.

04:10But then in the 1970s, things began to change.

04:14As the town's economy began to decline, so did the hotel's business.

04:18By the end of the decade, the hotel was abandoned and fell into disrepair.

04:24Today, it's just a shadow of its former self.

04:28A reminder of better times in the town's history.

04:32Now, let's take a look at the inside of the hotel.

04:34It's amazing to see how far nature has progressed here.

04:38The lobby is covered with vines and trees and the furniture has been reclaimed by the forest.

04:43It's like a scene from a post-apocalyptic movie.

04:46But it's real life.

04:48If we head upstairs, we can see the old guest rooms.

04:52They're dark and dusty, but you can still get a sense of what they must have been like in their heyday.

04:58Can you imagine staying in a hotel like this today?

05:01Well, you can't because it's abandoned and most likely haunted.

05:05We've taken a look at the school and the hotel.

05:09But there is one more building that we need to see.

05:14The old clock tower.

05:15Legend has it that if you find a secret door in the tower, you will be granted eternal youth.

05:22But no one has ever found the door.

05:24That is, until now, it's hard to believe.

05:28But the door is actually right here.

05:30It doesn't look like much, but according to legend, it leads to a secret staircase that goes all the way to the top of the clock tower.

05:39And at the top, you'll find the Fountain of Eternal Youth.

05:43Of course, there is no such thing as eternal youth.

05:46But that hasn't stopped people from trying to find the door.

05:49For decades, people have come from all over to try to locate the door and claim its power.
