00:00Heavy siltation at the bottom of the designated dive spots in Taal Lake for the search and recovery operations
00:07has left the waters in above and around in near-zero visibility or utter murkiness.
00:13Thus, the need for remotely operated vehicle or ROV intervention,
00:18which professional salvagers use in searching for shipwrecks sitting thousands of feet below the surface in this report.
00:24On the fourth day of the diving research and retrieval operation of the Philippine Coast Guard or PCG
00:31at Taal Lake for the alleged remains of missing sabongeros,
00:34divers continued to experience the extremely difficult conditions under the lake
00:38because of the near-zero visibility due to silt and mud.
00:42Changing weather conditions in the area also add to their challenges.
00:46Again, naka-alert level status pa rin yung Taal Volcano.
00:48And kung hindi man umuulan, Alan, ang possible challenge natin is yung heat stress for our technical divers.
00:56Kasi as of the moment, meron tayong nakakapag-record tayo ng 30 to 32 degrees Celsius sa ilalim ng tubig.
01:05So imagine yung init and then nagdi-zero visibility ang tubig.
01:10To lessen the burden of the technical divers, the PCG will now deploy an ROV or Remotely Operated Vehicles for the operation.
01:17The machine can dive as deep as 1,000 feet and can operate continuously for up to 4 hours.
01:23Significant help considering each diver is only capable of staying underwater for about an hour and a half.
01:29So at least may risk po yung danger pagdating po sa mga technical divers
01:34at medyo lalawak po yung ating monitoring po ano po yung nasa ilalim ng lakebed.
01:39And it has also the capacity po to pick up an object hanggang 10 kilograms.
01:44So malaki po itong tulong para sa Pilipin po sa araw-araw po na diving operation po namin.
01:50The team is also extending the search area, moving to other parts of the lake beyond the previously identified search zones
01:55to widen the scope of the operation.
01:57PCG has also assured the families of the missing Sabongero
02:00that the agency along with the entire government is committed to seeking justice for them.
02:05As of now, the PCG has recovered five sacks of bones which have been turned over to Soco
02:10for forensic investigation to determine if the bones found in Taal Lake are human bones.
02:16Meanwhile, the Department of Justice or DOJ is investigating the possible link
02:19between the cases of extrajudicial killings during the administration of former President Rodrigo Duterte
02:24and the disappearance of the Sabongeros.
02:27According to Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulia,
02:30information they have gathered resulted that some suspects involving EJK cases
02:34are also linked to the missing cockfighters and to illegal E-Sabong.
02:39Remulia further stated that some of these suspects are allegedly part of death squads.
02:43I think that the death squads might intersect the contractual killings,
02:49may intersect somehow with the drug war and with the E-Sabong.
02:57Same, may mga taong parang involved sa magpatay ng tao sa drug war at sa E-Sabong.
03:06As far as we can trace right now,
03:10but we will have to establish clearer links to each other.
03:15The Justice Department is now working to uncover a clearer connection between the two cases.
03:20Joshua Garcia from the National TV Network for a new and better Philippines.
