00:00Today we're announcing 500 million pounds for a social impact fund to support projects around
00:07the country including here in Westerly to give children the life chances that we would all want
00:14for our children and the project that I saw today working with children, 40 children at this school
00:22alone who might otherwise fall through the gaps who might not otherwise have some of those
00:29opportunities that we all will want for our children are getting that additional support and
00:35today I joined a session where children were learning through play and it was really powerful
00:42and the outcomes we've seen from these sorts of projects are really amazing and because of this
00:48additional money we're putting in backed by philanthropy by social capital by community
00:54led groups is about improving the outcomes for young children greater school attendance for example
01:01which we know is so important for children's opportunities later in life and the 500 million
01:07pounds that we're putting in now means that this is the biggest project of this type anywhere in the
01:12world and we can meet reach many more children but we also know that the benefits will be felt
01:17for years to come because if children are attending at school if children are getting support with
01:24special needs with additional learning needs if their parents and families are getting support as
01:30well if the community steps up then we will see results for many years to come in better educational
01:37attainment better jobs paying better wages and that's exactly what this government is about it's about
01:44raising life chances and opportunities that's why I came into politics to do in the first place it's
01:49why I joined the Labour Party when I was at secondary school because I want all children from whatever
01:54background they come from to have a great start in life that's why we're doing free breakfast clubs
01:59that's why we're extending free school meals that's why we've kept the cost of school uniform that's why
02:04we're investing in social and affordable homes and that's why today we're announcing 500 million pounds to
02:09improve the outcomes for our young people particularly in some of the most disadvantaged communities
