Elon Musk’s xAI launched its new Grok 4 chatbot on Wednesday, drawing immediate scrutiny after CNBC found it referenced Musk’s views when responding to controversial questions. When asked for a one-word stance on the Israel-Palestine conflict, Grok 4 searched the web and Musk’s posts on X before answering. In another example, the bot endorsed New York Republican Curtis Sliwa for mayor, citing concerns “frequently raised by Elon Musk.” Grok 3, by contrast, took a neutral stance in similar scenarios. While xAI describes Grok as “anti-woke” and “maximally truth-seeking,” the launch follows backlash over Grok 3’s antisemitic responses and random mentions of “white genocide.” xAI has not commented. Still, the company said it’s working to limit hate speech.
