00:00Anwar bin Ibrahim, Prime Minister of Malaysia, accompanied by the Honourable Datuk Seri Utama Haji Muhammad bin Haji Hassan, Minister of Foreign...
00:09ASEAN, as reflected by Foreign Minister Ma'asan, was not born of ease.
00:17It was forged in complexity by nations that understood the perils of divisions and the promise of that.
00:26Yet we have persevered and preserved peace and expanded prosperity in ways few regions can equal.
00:35Our regions' strength, therefore, lies not in the absence of tension, but in our commitment to manage it through mutual respect, continuous dialogue, and the search for consensus.
00:51That is the ASEAN way. It must remain our guide.
00:56We also look forward to welcoming Tim Oleski as our newest member in Okinawa.
01:06Malaysia has long supported this aspiration, and we were heartened by the progress made.
01:13Foreign Minister Ma'asan is complaining. It was a headache because everywhere we go, leaders want to at least participate.
01:22participate. If they can't join, they want to participate.
01:26So I said, please persuade your colleagues, the foreign ministers, that we will likely, we are very likely to have
01:37President Cyril Ramaphosa of South Africa and Lula de Silva of Brazil wanting to join, at least representing their regions.
01:55I'm just giving a suggestion. The problem is for the foreign ministers to then facilitate.
02:00That's why you are here today.
02:04Now, you see, that level of understanding and confidence is unheard of, and it's not the pattern observed by many other regions.
02:15And I'm very proud. I'm not exaggerating, but I am extremely delighted to be able to contribute and participate with the level of support and trust and friendship shown by all these countries and their leaders.
02:36And therefore, please convey my respects to your respective leaders and governments and wish them well and continue to engage and ensure that the success of ASEAN in the future is, rest assured.
02:56Yes, it should.
