00:00This is a marble cake, a vanilla and chocolate sponge swirled together.
00:03It couldn't be easier and it's delicious.
00:04Start with eggs and sugar, we're going to whisk it for four minutes.
00:07When it's pale, add in fresh vanilla and cream.
00:09Whisk it together to combine.
00:11Next, sift in your dry ingredients, flour, baking powder and salt.
00:15Finally, we stir in melted butter.
00:17For the chocolate cake, we're basically going to make the same batter.
00:19We just add a little bit of cocoa powder, the ratios are slightly different but same-same.
00:22And then we add both of those batters into piping bags.
00:24Now what you want to do is pipe alternate lines of vanilla and chocolate batter,
00:27layering them up the tin.
00:29You want to take a toothpick or a skewer and just gently swirl the cake together.
00:32Finally, you pipe a thin line of butter down the centre and this is going to control the cracking.
00:36And we go into the oven to bake about 85 minutes.
00:38While it bakes, make a quick sugar syrup boiling together, sugar and water.
00:41Once it comes out of the oven, we're going to soak it with that sugar syrup all over.
00:45Once you've soaked it, wrap it up.
00:47You want to chill it ideally overnight in the fridge but I know that can be tough so a few hours is fine.
00:50It pairs perfectly with the chocolate cream and the sponge is so soft.
