00:00Today the Bills will look to salvage one and we'll do that by sending Jesus
00:05Lizardo to the hill. The Giants will counter with future Hall of Famer Justin
00:09Verlander. Verlander and Lizardo matched up back on April 15th in Philadelphia.
00:14Verlander took the loss in that game, hard to believe, but Verlander still
00:17looking for his first win of the season. He is 0-6 with a 4.84 ERA in 15
00:23starts for the Giants this year. The Giants are 18-3 against the
00:27Phillies in their last 21 games in this park. The Philadelphia people like this
00:32is their house of horrors as they were describing it. Turner grounds one and a
00:37diving stab. Wilmer Flores has it. Gets up and flips to Verlander covering for the
00:42out. Wilmer was kind of breaking the other way, anticipating the ball in the
00:48other direction and had to change directions real fast. So one out here's
00:52Kyle Schwarber. He swings and misses. Strike three. The curveball got him for
00:57strikeout for Verlander. He established everything in that sequence. Fastball,
01:02velocity, curveball for the payout pitch. Slider, changeup. Well done. Well here's a
01:08marquee matchup. Uppers had six hits and 14 at bats against Verlander. Curveball
01:15struck him out swinging. That was nasty. Justin Verlander goes 1-2-3 with a couple of
01:21strikeouts to begin this game. Jesus Lizardo has been either really good for most of the
01:25season. 15 of his 18 starts. He has a 2.31 ERA and a 7-2 record. And those other three
01:32starts, he's allowed 26 runs. Exactly half of the 52 he's given up the entire season.
01:39Elliott Ramos will lead off against him. It's grounded through the right side. A base hit.
01:43Slices it the other way. The Phillies were playing him up the middle. He beats that slight shift. Left
01:49on left against Devers. Devers bounces one out towards second. That could be two and will be two.
01:554-6-3 on the double play. Well that is useful. Perfection. And he has doubled up 4-6-3. Two pitches
02:02in for Luzardo. And yeah, a lengthy outing wouldn't hurt the Phillies today for Jesus
02:09Luzardo. Swing and a miss. And the inning is over. I know it's only one inning, but Verlander's
02:17stuff looks way better than it looked when we saw him earlier this year. No doubt it's curveball
02:21in particular. That's a slow roller to third. Chapman barehands and throws. It goes right on by
02:26Flores. And Boehm is going to reach safely. And that ball gets hung up near the railing over there
02:34by the camera well. Beyond the camera well actually. And the Phillies were wondering if maybe that ball
02:39was lodged and it should have been out of play. And it should be an extra base. And it looks like
02:44they're going to award Alex second base. And now Bob Melvin, the Giants manager, is coming out of his
02:50dugout to talk with Marvin Hudson. Matt Chapman came over to try to say his piece. And Hudson was
02:57saying, I got it. Let me talk to your manager. And Chapman a little bit hot about it. But
03:03well, yeah, I mean, he's going to get an air on this play on the throw, even though it was an
03:07unbelievable play. So the Phillies with a man in scoring position, that's not been a sure thing by
03:13any stretch. Castellanos hits one in the air to right field. Getting under it is Matos. Boehm goes to tag.
03:20Matos makes the catch. Boehm headed for third. The throw cut off. Good read by Alec. So we'll see
03:26how the Giants looks like they want to play with the infield in here early in the game. And Max
03:30Kepler at the plate. Just eight for his last 47. Off the end of the bat slowly towards short. Boehm
03:37doesn't break. Adamas throws out Kepler. I mean, it's up to Boehm on that one. He has to read it.
03:44It's a tough read because the ball was hit off the end of the bat. So you thought the ball was hit a
03:49little bit harder. And I don't know that he would have been able to score on that. Adamas
03:54was playing so shallow in the infield. Tough one to read. Real Buto is the batter. Talk
03:59about J.T. and his numbers against Verlander. How about his numbers, his splits righty lefty?
04:04Left-handers, he's really struggled this year. 12 for 87. Against right-handers, he is number
04:10two behind Pete Alonso with a 3-0-3 batting average. And he cues this one up the first
04:16baseline. Why wouldn't Flores come and get that? I am confused. Holy cow. What a break for the
04:23Phillies. Yeah. And hopefully it hurts him. I mean, he just busts it and grabs it before
04:28it goes foul. I mean, J.T.'s out. That one's pulled through the hole on the left side of base
04:33hit. The Phillies take the lead here in the second inning. RBI single for J.T. His 29th
04:39ribby of the year. It's 1-0, Phils. Two strikes, two outs, grinding, not striking out, getting
04:44a base hit. Those are the type of at-bats that the Phillies need right now. Jesus Luzardo
04:50delivers to Matt Chapman. We're going to ground ball. Deep third. Backhand Boehm crossing the
04:55line. Throws off balance. The stretch by Harper, and they got him. And Matt Chapman gets a taste
05:01of his own medicine from Alec Boehm as the Gold Glover retired on a terrific play on both
05:07corners. Boehm and Harper on the receiving end. I think this is a good visit here by Caleb
05:13Cawthon. Just set him down a little bit. Base hit. Deep counts. A couple of deep counts
05:17in a row. He may be seeing something from the side there that may trigger something with
05:23with Jesus. This may not be his last trip out. He may try to sort of coach him through this
05:29and he may be doubting if he sees something that deviates back to the way he was before
05:34their offense. That's right.
05:35That's right.
05:37Rutgers lead off first and second. Swing and a miss. And he got him with a sweeper.
05:41That's a big out. Second strikeout for Luzardo. And that'll bring up Luis Matos.
05:47Luzardo kicks and deals in the pitch. Swung on and missed. He struck him out. Back to his fastball.
05:53Gets him to chase. And there's back to back strikeouts for Luzardo with two aboard.
05:57When the Phillies are playing their best baseball they've been able to add on and not only have
06:03they not scored early lately but they're not adding on when they do score fly ball left field.
06:09Going back on it is Ramos. It's over his head and it's out of the ballpark. It's gone.
06:14An opposite field home run for Harper. It's his first home run since the third of June.
06:20And the Phillies lead it to nothing. Well that is a great sign.
06:25Well it sure is on a number of levels. I mean he smokes this ball his balance on that swing was impeccable.
06:32Stayed right on it. Drove through it. Drove it out of the ballpark to the left side opposite.
06:37And boy is that a sight for sore eyes. It really did carry. It's the tenth home run allowed by Verlander.
06:42Harper last time up hit a home run against Verlander. 3-4-5 for the Phillies.
06:47Third time through against the Giants right-hander.
06:50There's a line drive out to left center field. That's going to be in for another extra base hit.
06:54It goes to the wall for Harper and he's going to glide into second.
06:58And he's there with a standup double. Fourteenth double of the season.
07:02He had got eleven games since his last extra base hit. And he has two here today.
07:08Now all is right in the world when he's hitting this ball to the left side of the field.
07:12A wild pitch. Now the Giants have to bring the infield in.
07:15Getting that man to third base with less than two outs. Hopefully the Cassie can put together a good swing here.
07:20He pulls that one in the left field. A base hit for Castellanos. That'll bring home Harper.
07:24And the Phillies lead it 3-0.
07:27I guarantee you Verlander's thinking to himself he's got 3-2. I'm going to throw the breaking ball.
07:32But a negative thought creeps in there. I don't want to bounce it again.
07:36And that little bit of negative thought is enough to hang something.
07:40Runner goes. Pitch outside. Throw to second base. It hits Castellanos.
07:44And it kicks into center field. Nick's on his way to third. And he'll get there.
07:49That is the third error of the game for the Giants.
07:52And now the infield in again. Fly ball left field. Going back on it is Ramos.
07:58Deep it up to score Castellanos. It carries right to the warning track.
08:01It's a sack fly for Kepler. 4-0 Phillies.
08:06Jesus Lizardo has retired 14 of the last 15 batters in order.
08:10Popped up on the first base side. And Harper's there to make the catch.
08:14He's retired 15 out of 16. Swing and a ground ball to third.
08:18Alec Bohm takes care of it. His throw to first in plenty of time.
08:22And there are two down.
08:23When Lizardo trying to get through a clean seven here.
08:26He hasn't gone a full seven innings since May the 25th against the Athletics.
08:33Got a chance for the full seven here today.
08:36Going on. Popped in the air. Shadow right.
08:38Stott is going out. He'll make the catch.
08:40And seven really strong innings today for Jesus Lizardo.
08:46I feel he's staring at the possibility of a sweep.
08:49But the left-hander was terrific all afternoon.
08:53As Harper who's got two extra base hits today leads things off.
08:57Fly ball left center field. Lee is on the run.
09:00That's hit well. It is off the base of the wall.
09:02And it rolls along the warning track.
09:04And Harper's going to get to second with his third extra base hit of the day.
09:09Boy that this is a as good a sign as anything.
09:14Really have to tack on this last run.
09:16I mean love to have this a five run lead going into the last two innings of this ball game.
09:24Bouncer back toward the middle and in the center field a base hit.
09:27Harper's around third.
09:28He's going to score RBI for Bohm.
09:30Bohm's second hit of the day.
09:31Harper scored three runs five nothing Phillies.
09:34Four straight hits against Tristan back here to start the eighth inning.
09:39It's already five nothing Phillies and now they're looking to just blow the game open.
09:43Bases are loaded for JT.
09:45Line drive base and it's a left field ball most score.
09:48Castellanos holds up.
09:49It's an RBI single for Real Muto.
09:51The Phillies with five consecutive hits have scored another run of the inning.
09:55They lead it six nothing.
09:56Bryson Stott will be the batter five ball center field.
10:00Lee under it.
10:01Tagging from third Castellanos.
10:04And the runners will advance.
10:06The throw goes to third.
10:07Rojas is out at third.
10:10It's awfully close.
10:11Yeah.
10:12Quick tag by Chapman.
10:13But this hand does look like that oven mitt grabbed it before the contact was made with the glove.
10:18It really does.
10:19I mean the call on the field is an out.
10:21So you have to just find out if there's enough to overturn what you called.
10:25After a year the call on the field is overturned.
10:27The runner is safe.
10:28Philadelphia will retain their challenge.
10:30Phillies are sending their eighth man to the plate in this inning.
10:34They've scored three runs.
10:35They've got them loaded for Trey Turner.
10:38On the ground the shortstop.
10:40There's one.
10:43And not in time.
10:44Another run scores.
10:45RBI for Turner.
10:46Eight nothing Phillies.
10:47Well there's already got a home run in this series.
10:50In the McCovey Cove he's got a home run this year against Scott Alexander.
10:54Fly ball left field.
10:56Well struck Ramos is back.
10:57It's over his head and it's out of the ballpark.
10:59A three run laser.
11:01The opposite way.
11:03Kyle Schwarber another home run is twenty ninth of the year.
11:07And the Phillies have busted this game wide open.
11:11Nobody out.
11:12So Marsh has a chance to drive in a run here.
11:15And that would make it all nine starters to have driven in a run.
11:19He swings and grounds it to first.
11:20Smith's got it to second.
11:22There's one.
11:23On to first.
11:24Not in time.
11:25He beats it out and gets the RBI.
11:28And it's twelve nothing Phillies.
11:32And here's a swing and a ground ball by Sosa to second.
11:35Or to third.
11:37Chapman's got it.
11:38Throws to second for one out.
11:40But his throw to first is offline.
11:42So Sosa reaches.
11:44He drives in a run.
11:45It's thirteen to nothing Phillies.
11:48Phillies with his thirteen nothing lead.
11:51In their fifty fourth game of the season.
11:53Swing and a ground ball back towards the bag at second.
11:56Sosa has it.
11:57Throws to first.
11:58And the ball game is over.
12:00Phillies win it.
12:01In shutout fashion.
12:03Thirteen to nothing as they ride a huge day from Bryce Harper to a route of the Giants.
