00:00And we have baseball tonight on a Sunday evening in West Sacramento as the A's and the Giants will decide the three-game series here this evening.
00:10And it's going to be left-hander, Jacob Lopez on the bump for the green and gold to round out this series.
00:15It's going to be his ninth start, 13th overall appearance.
00:18They love the game plan early. They're getting on top of the plate and they're pulling them.
00:21Another tough start for the A's at home.
00:24Bases still loaded. One out. And Willie Adamas. Adamas, who struggled big time against lefties, but he's got a good swing going.
00:32Had a huge game yesterday. So still scoreless. Bases loaded on a 3-2 count. The pitch. Adamas takes outside ball four.
00:41The A's appeal, but he checked his swing and it's 1-0 Giants. Adamas draws the bases loaded walk. That's a good job.
00:49Well, not the ideal start to the ball game. First four out of five have reached base now for the Giants.
00:55Well, if Lopez can summon a great pitch, now would be a pretty good time.
01:00They lead from first, second, and third. Giants lead 1-0. And the 3-2 is swung on and missed. Down he goes.
01:06Got him with a breaking ball. Out number two. And here is Mike Yastrzemski.
01:10And now the 0-2 pitch. Here it is. And a breaking ball swung on and missed.
01:14Great job by Lopez. He did limit the damage. The Giants get one. They leave three.
01:19Hayden Burtzong on the hill tonight for the Giants. Started out the season in the bullpen, then graduated to the rotation.
01:24This will be his ninth start. 3-3 on the year with a 4-3-0 ERA.
01:28So, Hayden Burtzong, that's two walks here in the first inning.
01:32Shea Langoliers comes up. And I guarantee you, the A's are going to be real patient.
01:37They know what's been going on with Burtzong.
01:383-2 pitch. Is swung on and missed. Strike three. Threw another changeup. And he got him.
01:44The A's get a couple of walks, but they don't score.
01:46Tyler Fitzgerald leads out for the Giants. Top of the second. They lead 1-0.
01:51Fitzgerald down on a fastball. Up and out of the strike zone.
01:55Out number one. Third strikeout of the ballgame for Jacob Lopez. Third in a row for the left-hander.
02:01Feels like he's getting a little bit of life back into him.
02:03Facing the nine-hole hitter now in Andrew Kisner.
02:05Here's the 1-2 and a swing and a miss from Kisner. How about four straight strikeouts?
02:11And I think in a matter of one inning, what you're starting to see is how important it is for Jacob Lopez to be consistently competitive.
02:19Just consistently around the strike zone.
02:22So, 1-2. Two out. Nobody aboard. Swung on and miss. You talk about turning a start around.
02:28Jacob Lopez has struck out the last five Giants.
02:32From Sacramento, Giants with a 1-0 lead. Bottom two.
02:35And the A's will come up against Hayden Birdsong.
02:37Tyler Soderstrom. And a half swing. He went around. Strike three.
02:41That was a high fastball that was way high. And I mean like maybe two feet high.
02:47And Soderstrom just couldn't hold up.
02:49The last seven hitters in this game have struck out.
02:522-2. Swing and a miss. Strike three. A high fastball.
02:54Fastball. That's three straight strikeouts for Birdsong.
02:57Lopez, the A's pitcher, struck out five straight hitters.
03:01Here's Zach Geloff. Right-handed hitter.
03:03He got him with a slider.
03:05So, another strikeout. Three in a row in this inning.
03:09Four in a row overall for Birdsong.
03:10It's strikeout city now. Four straight K's for Birdsong.
03:14Five straight for Jacob Lopez.
03:16Lopez has struck out five straight after the walk to Adamas, which forced home a run.
03:22The only run of this game.
03:23As Lopez delivers the pitch. Breaking ball.
03:26Swung on and missed. Down he goes.
03:28That's six consecutive strikeouts for the left-hander.
03:31All swinging.
03:32And there is one away here in the third.
03:34As Lopez to the plate. The 0-2 pitch.
03:37Breaking ball. Swung on and missed. Down he goes.
03:39That's seven consecutive strikeouts for Jacob Lopez.
03:44Look at your scorecard. Have you ever had 11 in a row?
03:46Four for the A's?
03:48Yeah, I don't think so. All swinging.
03:501986. Jay Howell is the last A's pitcher to strike out seven straight batters.
03:551-0 Giants, but bases loaded for the A's in the last of the third.
03:59Butler drew a walk at third.
04:01Wilson, who had a hit at second.
04:03Kurtz, who walked as at first.
04:05Giants still ahead. 1-0.
04:06Now the A's with a great opportunity here.
04:09Shea Langoliers, who struck out in the first inning.
04:12Langoliers hits a sky-high pop-up into left.
04:16Shallow.
04:16Ramos coming in.
04:18Still coming in, and he will get there to make the catch.
04:21Out number three.
04:22He got through it.
04:23Not a problem.
04:24Oh, no.
04:25Never a doubt.
04:27Willie Adamas for the Giants against the left-hander Lopez.
04:29Adamas walked with the bases loaded his first time up, so another run batted in for Willie
04:33Adamas.
04:34That's the only run of the game.
04:36That one is blasted out to left center field.
04:38Denzel Clark back at the wall.
04:40It is gone!
04:43Willie Adamas has come to life at the plate.
04:46His 11th home run of the year.
04:48It's 2-0 Giants.
04:50Willie Adamas is the hottest hitter in the league.
04:53He drove in four last night.
04:54He's got two runs batted in already tonight, and he crushed that thing.
04:58Out to left center field.
05:00Willie Adamas goes deep.
05:022-0 Giants.
05:03Tyler Soderstrom, the lead picks off, and it's Hayden Birdsong.
05:06Soderstrom struck out in the second inning.
05:08Birdsong has four strikeouts.
05:10He struck out four consecutive athletics.
05:11Tyler Soderstrom out to right field, and Tyler Soderstrom, time to shine, 2-0-9.
05:21It's been a one, but he got the A's on the board here in the fourth, 2-1.
05:26Tyler Soderstrom, the kid from Turlock with a tank.
05:30JT Ginn out of the A's bullpen.
05:32And now the Giants have the bases loaded.
05:34Adamas, man, if his at-bat's been good here lately.
05:37A bases loaded walk in the first inning tonight, and a monstrous home run.
05:41In the fourth inning, another full-count pitch to the Giants' hottest hitter.
05:463-2.
05:46It is ball four.
05:48Adamas takes outside, and that's another run.
05:52His second bases loaded walk drawn tonight.
05:56It's 3-1 Giants.
05:57He's driven in all three runs, two of them by way of the walk.
06:01Kisner scores.
06:03Devers goes to third.
06:04Wilmer Flores to second.
06:06And Luis Matos will come to the plate.
06:09One run in for the Giants.
06:10They lead 3-1.
06:11And bases loaded, two down.
06:12Matos 0-2 tonight.
06:14He drives one out towards right center field.
06:16On the move.
06:17Butler, he is not going to get it.
06:19One hop, and it goes over the wall.
06:21And that means two, not three, runs will score.
06:25Devers is in.
06:26Flores is in.
06:27Adamas has to go back to third.
06:29But Luis Matos into the gap.
06:33An automatic double to make it 5-1 Giants.
06:36That was a good swing.
06:38Now the A's have a shot to get back in it.
06:40Wilson to second.
06:41Rooker's at first.
06:42Kurtz coming up.
06:43And the Giants are conferencing on the mound.
06:46Giants' bullpen is working.
06:47You've got the left-handed inning.
06:48Kurtz, who can change the game with one swing.
06:51Kurtz hits a hard ground ball to second.
06:53Fitzgerald has it to second one.
06:55Adamas to first.
06:56And got him double play.
06:58Flores throws home with the runner, Wilson, breaking for the plate.
07:02But the call at first is that it's out, and it's a double play.
07:06So Wilmer didn't know that, so he threw home.
07:09And the Giants are going to walk off the field.
07:11The A's are asking for a minute, and they're not challenging.
07:14Wilmer Flores, what a stretch at first base.
07:17And the Giants turn the double play.
07:20Tyler Fitzgerald against Michael Kelly, the new pitcher,
07:22fourth pitcher of the game for the A's.
07:24Fitzgerald drives one, deep left field.
07:27And it's going to be not caught, and it goes over the wall.
07:32Tyler Soderstrom had it, and it bounced off his glove
07:37and ricocheted off the top of the wall and over the wall.
07:40Maybe not quite shades of Jose Canseco,
07:43but the ricochet home run for Fitzgerald makes it 6-1.
07:48And a base hit right here on the is would bring the tying run to the plate.
07:52And here's Butler.
07:53He has flied out, walked, struck out, bounced a second.
07:57One of those situations we've talked about a lot,
07:59talked about with Miller, closers coming into a non-save situation.
08:04And it's swung on and tapped the first near the bag, up with it,
08:07and going to the bag is Flores.
08:09The run scores is 6-2, but the Giants want outs,
08:14and they get the second out of the inning.
08:16Now the Giants one out away from a win.
08:19Jacob Wilson, though, the ultimate contact hitter right now in the American League.
08:23With two runners in scoring position, a base hit would make it a two-run game.
08:26Wilson chops it softly to third, charging Chapman.
08:30He's got it.
08:30Chapman to first, for the out, and the game is over.
08:34Matt Chapman with a classic Chapman kind of play
08:38to help rescue Camilo Duval and the Giants.
08:41That was a little shaky in the ninth inning,
08:43but Chapman and the defense gets it done,
08:46and the Giants win this game 6-2 to take the series two games to one.
