During his opening remarks at the Asean Post Ministerial Conference with China on Thursday (June 10), Malaysian Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan said Asean is confident of concluding an effective and substantive Code of Conduct (COC) for the South China Sea in the "not-too-distant future”.

00:14Mohamad told delegations from ASEAN member states and China during his opening remarks at the ASEAN post-ministerial conference with China on Thursday that there was a positive reception of the progress on the code of conduct among member states.
00:28The fragility of global peace is becoming more apparent by the day. This demands that we double our efforts towards ensuring that peace and stability in our region are maintained.
00:43We must therefore ensure that geopolitical tensions do not escalate or threaten to undermine security and global trade in the South China Sea.
00:55Towards this end, ASEAN calls on all parties to manage the situation in the South China Sea with wisdom and prudence.
01:06Mohamad and his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi also affirmed their commitment in strengthening economic cooperation between ASEAN and China.
