Only 5 of 21 crew members rescued alive; most of the crew were Filipino

The Panama-flagged cargo ship Eternity C sank on Tuesday (July 9) in the Red Sea after being struck by a missile fired by Houthi forces from Yemen. The vessel was the latest target in the ongoing maritime campaign by the rebel group, which has already impacted dozens of ships in the region.

According to preliminary reports, only 5 of the 21 crew members on board were rescued alive. Several sailors were killed in the attack, and many others remain missing. Nearly the entire crew was made up of Filipino nationals.

Footage shared on social media shows the moment Houthi forces launched a missile at the Eternity C, which was sailing in international waters. The explosion reportedly caused severe structural damage, leading the vessel to sink within a few hours.
