Transcript
00:00Hello and welcome, I'm Geeta Mohan and you're watching World Today.
00:19Now, Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Windhoek, Namibia,
00:22marking the final stop of his five-nation tour.
00:25He's just now left for India after his five-nation, two-continent tour.
00:31This marks Prime Minister Modi's first ever visit to the country, that's Namibia.
00:36He was greeted by the Indian diaspora amid rather loud cheers.
00:40The Prime Minister was given a ceremonial welcome,
00:42complete with traditional performances in which the Prime Minister himself took part,
00:47even trying his hand at the local drums.
00:51Prime Minister Modi held delegation-level talks with the Namibian president,
00:55Natumbo Nandi Ndaitwa, and at the State House in the capital city of Windhoek.
01:02The deliberations were aimed to deepen the economic partnership between the two countries
01:07by exploring new areas of cooperation in critical sectors.
01:11MOUs have been signed in the fields of health, medicine, global biofuel,
01:16infrastructure framework, and entrepreneurship.
01:18Prime Minister Modi was conferred with Namibia's highest civilian honor,
01:24Order of the Most Ancient Velvichia Mirabilis,
01:27during his one-day state visit to the African nation.
01:30The award recognizes distinguished service and leadership.
01:34This is the 27th global honor for Prime Minister Modi,
01:37the fourth during the ongoing five-nation visits that just concluded.
01:42He has just left the New Delhi.
01:43He also addressed the Namibian parliament in Windhoek,
01:47invoking India's long-standing support for Namibia's freedom struggle
01:53and expressing New Delhi's commitment to work alongside the southern African nation
01:58as it moves towards its development goals under Vision 2030.
02:03He also received a standing ovation, as you can see,
02:06at the parliament by the parliamentarians.
02:08As the Prime Minister said,
02:10the freedom to future is the path Delhi and Windhoek have pursued,
02:14referring to the decades-long ties between both nations.
02:21When you help us in reintroducing chitas in our country,
02:29we are deeply grateful for your gifts.
02:34I had the privilege of releasing them into the Kuno National Park.
02:43They have sent a message for you.
02:50Inima Aise Oili Nava.
02:54They are happy and have adapted well in their new home.
02:59They have grown in numbers as well.
03:05Clearly, they are enjoying their time in India.
03:13Friends, I conclude by wishing Namibia great success
03:22in co-hosting the 2027 Cricket World Cup.
03:34And
03:34if your Eagles need any cricket tips,
03:45you know whom to call.
04:00Pranay Padhe joins me for more on this.
04:03Pranay,
04:04sense of humor,
04:06cricket diplomacy,
04:07hakplomacy,
04:08cheetah diplomacy,
04:10all packed into this one major tour of Prime Minister Modi,
04:14which has just concluded.
04:16He's just taken flight to New Delhi.
04:29Well, Pranay, can you hear me?
04:35Well, it seems like we are having a bit of a trouble
04:38with Pranay Padhe's audio there.
04:41We will try connecting with him.
04:43But this is a major, major tour
04:46that just concluded.
04:48Five nations,
04:49two continents,
04:50a lot of conversations
04:52beyond just culture,
04:55traditional ties,
04:56historical ties.
04:57There were major deals
04:58that were signed in the tech,
05:00trade,
05:01especially rare earths
05:02and minerals sector.
05:03So that's very crucial
05:05for India
05:06and the two continents
05:08of Latin America
05:10and the Americas
05:12and Africa.
05:15Pranay,
05:15is with us,
05:16Pranay,
05:17a lot of diplomacy,
05:18whether it's cheetah
05:19or for that matter,
05:21trade,
05:21culture
05:22and a bit of sense of humor
05:24there as well?
05:26Absolutely.
05:26From cricket
05:27to wildlife conservation
05:28to mines,
05:30minerals,
05:30to defense,
05:31to even the health.
05:34Various sectors
05:35were covered
05:35during Prime Minister
05:36Narendra Modi's
05:37visit to Namibia
05:38and he's already
05:39on his way back to India
05:40after the successful
05:41completion of his
05:42five-nation tour.
05:43Very many achievements
05:44we can count on
05:45during this Africa
05:47and Latin America
05:48outreach of Prime Minister
05:49Modi Gita.
05:50We know that
05:51Prime Minister's first
05:52in this five-nation tour,
05:54he had two stopovers
05:56in African continent.
05:57This clearly shows
05:58how much importance
05:59India attaches
06:01to the partnership
06:02with Africa.
06:03Prime Minister Narendra Modi
06:04while addressing
06:05to Namibian parliament
06:06its joint session
06:07clearly said
06:07that we are there
06:08to co-development.
06:12We are there
06:13to progress together.
06:14We are there
06:14to help Africa
06:16and to grow
06:17because we are also
06:18a developing economy.
06:20We are ready
06:20to share our experience
06:21with you
06:22and we are there
06:23to partner with you.
06:24Janna Oshidi,
06:26especially for the
06:27pharmaceutical sector
06:28of India
06:29will get a prominent
06:31access in Namibian markets.
06:33So this is an important
06:33achievement
06:34and also
06:35the UPI card
06:37will also be acceptable
06:38the payment mechanism
06:40in Namibia.
06:42Prime Minister
06:42has also been conferred
06:43with the highest
06:44civilian award
06:44of Namibia.
06:45So many achievements
06:46not only in Namibia
06:48but also in this
06:49five-nation tour
06:50of Prime Minister Modi.
06:52Okay,
06:52then let's zoom out
06:53a little.
06:53The five-nation tour,
06:54a lot of questions
06:55being asked
06:55on what were
06:56the achievements.
06:57But there are
06:57massive deals
06:58that were signed
06:59whether it's
06:59trade technology
07:00but also rare
07:01earth minerals.
07:03The things
07:04that the world
07:05is looking for
07:06when it comes
07:07to lithium,
07:08manganese,
07:09cobalt
07:09and all those
07:10deals were signed
07:12or looking at
07:13further cooperation
07:14on that front
07:14with India.
07:17You're absolutely
07:18right, Gita.
07:19We all know
07:19that Africa
07:21is full of
07:21natural resources.
07:22Not only Africa
07:23but even Latin America
07:24when Prime Minister
07:26Modi visited
07:26Argentina,
07:27when he even
07:28visited Brazil,
07:30not only the
07:30historical ties
07:31were renewed
07:32because if you see
07:33all these five
07:34nations for
07:34very many years
07:35in the past
07:36two decades,
07:38no Indian Prime Minister
07:39has visited
07:40in this region
07:40and especially
07:41these countries,
07:42even Namibia.
07:44After 27 years,
07:45any Indian Prime Minister
07:46visited Namibia.
07:47Brazil after 56 years
07:49and Argentina.
07:51All these countries,
07:52if you see,
07:53you have counted
07:53on the mines
07:54and mineral deals
07:55but defense is also
07:56an important area
07:57where Prime Minister
07:59Nareem Modi
07:59has explored
08:00the possibility
08:01of partnership,
08:02possibility of
08:03Indian defense
08:04export to Argentina.
08:06As far as the
08:07rare earth minerals
08:08are concerned,
08:08Argentina was a
08:09prominent stop
08:10of Prime Minister
08:10Nareem Modi's
08:11five-nation tour
08:12because there
08:13in northern Argentina,
08:15India has expressed
08:16interest through
08:18the Kabul
08:18which is the
08:19Ghanij Bikas
08:19Investment Limited
08:22which is India's
08:23PSU,
08:24public sector
08:24undertaking,
08:25to have mining
08:26deals and mining
08:27rights there
08:28in Argentina.
08:29Besides that,
08:29energy is also
08:30an important area
08:31in Argentina.
08:33India want to
08:34source LNG.
08:35Namibia is also
08:36a country where
08:36a lot of oil
08:38and natural gas
08:39exploration happened
08:40and besides that,
08:41the uranium is also,
08:43India is looking
08:43at procurement
08:44of uranium
08:45from Namibia.
08:46Thank you so
08:48much for tracking
08:49all those countries
08:50day after day.
08:52We've been coming
08:53to you,
08:53dipping into you
08:54for the coverage
08:55of Prime Minister
08:56Modi in this
08:57five-country,
08:58two-continent tour.
08:59Netan Yahu's Gaza plan
09:12aims to relocate
09:13over 2.1 million
09:15Palestinians
09:15into a walled camp
09:17on Rafah's ruins,
09:18what critics call
09:19ethnic cleansing.
09:21With military control,
09:22aid restrictions,
09:23and forced emigration
09:24on the table,
09:26Gaza's future
09:27hangs by a thread.
09:28Watch our full report
09:29where we break down
09:30this explosive
09:31and controversial strategy.
09:33Israel isn't just
09:43waging war in Gaza,
09:45it's preparing
09:46to erase it.
09:48Prime Minister
09:49Benjamin Netanyahu's
09:50latest plan
09:51is nothing short
09:52of population
09:53engineering.
09:55Relocate
09:55over millions
09:56of Palestinians
09:57into a walled-off
09:59humanitarian city
10:00built on the ruins
10:02of Rafah.
10:03A so-called
10:04safe zone?
10:06No,
10:06a cage.
10:07One that ends
10:08with all of Gaza
10:09trapped
10:10and stripped
10:11of its land,
10:12freedom,
10:12and future.
10:15Defense Minister
10:16of Israel,
10:17Katz,
10:17confirmed
10:17that the Israeli
10:19military has
10:19orders to prepare
10:20mass transfers.
10:21Palestinians would be
10:24screened,
10:25locked inside
10:26and forbidden
10:26to leave.
10:28And if that sounds
10:28like a temporary fix,
10:30think again.
10:31Netanyahu is reviving
10:33Trump's mission.
10:34Let the U.S.
10:35oversee Gaza
10:36post-war,
10:37then quietly
10:38encourage Palestinians
10:39to emigrate
10:40permanently.
10:41No country
10:42has agreed,
10:43but Netanyahu's
10:44betting someone
10:45will.
10:46What about those
10:47who refuse to leave?
10:49They'll stay
10:49under Israeli
10:50military control.
10:52Troops won't
10:52withdraw.
10:53They'll decide
10:54who gets food,
10:55fuel,
10:55medicine,
10:56if any.
10:57Aid,
10:57access,
10:58survival,
10:59it's all
10:59conditional.
11:01And critics
11:01aren't mincing
11:02words.
11:04Human Rights Watch
11:04calls it
11:05ethnic cleansing.
11:07Israeli human
11:07rights lawyers
11:08say it's a crime
11:09against humanity.
11:11already more
11:15than 50,000
11:16Palestinians
11:17have been killed.
11:18Now the rest
11:19face forced
11:20displacement,
11:21disease,
11:22starvation
11:23and the end
11:24of Gaza
11:25as they know it.
11:27Regional powers
11:28like the UAE
11:29have condemned
11:30the plan.
11:31The UN is
11:32warning of
11:33catastrophic
11:33civilian deaths.
11:36Even within
11:37Israel,
11:37the plan is
11:38causing friction,
11:39especially with
11:40hostages still
11:41in Hamas custody.
11:44And yet,
11:45while ceasefire
11:46talks continue,
11:47Israel's leaders
11:48are mapping
11:49the future,
11:50one where Gaza
11:51is emptied,
11:52militarily occupied
11:53and reshaped
11:54forever.
11:56Humanitarian city
11:57or a blueprint
11:58for apartheid?
12:00Netanyahu's plan
12:01isn't about security.
12:03It's about
12:04erasure.
12:05And the world
12:05must decide,
12:07will it watch
12:07your people
12:08be driven
12:08off their land
12:09in real time
12:10or will it act
12:11before Gaza
12:12becomes a ghost?
12:14Rishika Aradia
12:15for India today.
12:20Joining me now
12:21is West Asia
12:22expert and
12:23senior journalist
12:24Dr. Vail Awad.
12:25Dr. Awad,
12:25thank you so much
12:26for joining me here.
12:28Gaza cleansing
12:28is that the plan
12:29that was the
12:30ultimate plan
12:31after all
12:32because Netanyahu
12:33in that meeting
12:35with Trump
12:35was explaining
12:36how Gaza
12:37is not an open
12:38prison,
12:39that Gazans
12:40would be allowed
12:40to leave
12:41provided Arab
12:42nations are willing
12:43to take them.
12:44Not West Bank,
12:45not other parts
12:46of occupied territories,
12:49but Arab nations.
12:50Thank you
12:51for having me.
12:52Actually,
12:52this is absolutely
12:53agree with
12:54the lawmakers
12:56and the academicians
12:57and the politicians
12:58and everybody
12:59saying it's a crime
13:00against the humanity,
13:02it's a war
13:02against the Palestinians
13:03which they have
13:04started under
13:05pretext that
13:06they're defeating
13:07Hamas
13:07and turn out
13:08to be an ethnic
13:09cleansing
13:09and one way
13:11to kick
13:12the Palestinian
13:12out of Gaza
13:13and continue
13:14the plan
13:15of Netanyahu
13:16and also
13:17including with him
13:18is the President
13:19Trump to make
13:19Gaza Rivera
13:20and one third
13:21of Gaza
13:22because they are
13:23trying to push
13:24at least 600,000
13:26Palestinians
13:26into what they call
13:27it as a
13:28humanitarian cities
13:29where they will be
13:30as the Israelis
13:31officials saying
13:33that it will be
13:34forcibly
13:35expelling
13:36the Palestinians
13:36and definitely
13:37none of the Arab
13:39countries
13:39including Egypt
13:40and Jordan
13:41are willing
13:43to take
13:43any
13:43Palestinian
13:44out of Gaza
13:46and this is
13:46absolutely
13:47not in the history
13:49of the world
13:50the Arab world
13:51it is the second
13:52Nakba for the
13:52Palestinians
13:53and I think
13:54this is exposed
13:55actually the sinister
13:56plot
13:57to remove the
13:58Gazan people
13:59and Gita
13:59if you focus more
14:00into the West Bank
14:02you can see
14:02what's happening
14:03in the West Bank
14:04it's a clear indication
14:05it has nothing
14:06to do with Gaza
14:06but to continue
14:08the annihilation
14:08of the total
14:09Palestine
14:10without finding
14:11any viable
14:12state of Palestine
14:13even Netanyahu
14:14has been saying
14:15there is no
14:15question of a
14:16state of Palestine
14:17that's a very
14:19important statement
14:20on how
14:22Netanyahu
14:23is planning
14:23to remove
14:25Palestinians
14:25from their
14:26very land
14:26having said
14:27that
14:28the latter
14:29part of this
14:29entire conversation
14:30is important
14:31Netanyahu
14:32says that
14:33provided Arab
14:34nations
14:34wherever they
14:35want to go
14:35they can go
14:36but over here
14:38Dr. Awad
14:38Arab nations
14:39have already
14:40said we are
14:40not taking
14:41in Palestinians
14:41not because
14:43we don't want
14:43them
14:44not because
14:45we no longer
14:46want refugees
14:47but yes
14:47Egypt has
14:48a problem
14:48of a lot
14:49of refugees
14:50having said
14:51that they're
14:51saying it
14:52because if
14:52Palestinians
14:53leave Gaza
14:54then that is
14:55exactly what
14:56Israel wants
14:57an empty Gaza
14:58for themselves
14:59to take
14:59it is war
15:01for land
15:01not of people
15:03absolutely
15:04and I think
15:05that is the
15:05main plan
15:06as I said
15:06you know
15:07the problem
15:08with the world
15:08does not
15:09understand
15:10the American
15:10culture
15:11and the
15:11Israeli
15:12settlers
15:12culture
15:13these are
15:13coming all
15:14from the
15:14United States
15:15where they
15:16have thinking
15:16that they
15:17wanted to
15:17make is
15:18United States
15:19as a great
15:19country
15:20and the
15:20aboriginal
15:21skeletons
15:22which they
15:23have slaughtered
15:24in the
15:24territory
15:24so for
15:25them it's
15:26a land
15:26without
15:26people
15:27how can
15:27you kick
15:282.5
15:29million
15:29Palestinians
15:30from Gaza
15:313.5
15:32million
15:32Palestinians
15:33and the
15:33rest of
15:33the occupied
15:34territories
15:35so where
15:36these people
15:36will go
15:37I mean
15:37this is
15:38absolutely
15:38a crime
15:40that the
15:40world has
15:41been witnessing
15:42and I think
15:42the public
15:44opinion
15:45internationally
15:45is turning
15:46against
15:46this kind
15:47of ethnic
15:48cleansing
15:49and killing
15:49I mean
15:50nobody is
15:51accepting
15:51this kind
15:52of a
15:52policy
15:53no matter
15:53what it
15:54may come
15:54from the
15:55politician
15:55but here
15:56you can
15:56see also
15:57Netanyahu
15:58winning the
15:59war in
15:59Gaza
16:00as he
16:01feels
16:01and also
16:02he wanted
16:02to turn
16:03his gun
16:03against
16:04Lebanon
16:04Hezbollah
16:05and now
16:06he is
16:06getting the
16:06green card
16:07from President
16:08Trump
16:09because he's
16:09having another
16:10objective
16:11inside Lebanon
16:14as well as
16:15in Syria
16:15and he wanted
16:16to continue
16:17to take
16:19the corridors
16:20from Syria
16:21into the
16:22Kurdish area
16:23so basically
16:24Israeli
16:25politicians
16:26are working
16:27only in
16:28the greater
16:28Israel plan
16:29which extends
16:30from the
16:30Sinai Peninsula
16:31to Iraq
16:32so that
16:32is the
16:33openly
16:33now they
16:33are saying
16:34it includes
16:35Syria
16:35it includes
16:36Iraq
16:36one third
16:37of Saudi
16:37Arabia
16:38Lebanon
16:38Jordan
16:39and the
16:39Sinai Peninsula
16:41Dr. Awad
16:42you just said
16:43that the world
16:44will not watch
16:45and will not
16:45accept this
16:46but I beg
16:47to defer
16:47what I hear
16:48is silence
16:49deafening
16:50silence
16:51I have not
16:51seen any
16:52movement
16:53from the
16:53international
16:53community
16:54to really
16:55make an
16:56effort
16:56with the
16:57political
16:57will
16:57to stop
16:58these
16:59Israeli
16:59actions
17:00well I
17:02still believe
17:02in the
17:03public
17:03opinion
17:04in the
17:04mass
17:04which they
17:05have
17:05already
17:05turned
17:06against
17:06their
17:06own
17:06government
17:07that is
17:07where the
17:08positive
17:09signs
17:09have been
17:10now
17:10everybody
17:11in the
17:12world
17:12is demonstrating
17:13take it
17:13in Spain
17:14in the
17:14United
17:15States
17:15in Europe
17:16in the
17:16Arab
17:16countries
17:17except in
17:17the Arab
17:18countries
17:18of course
17:19nobody is
17:19allowed
17:19to demonstrate
17:22for the
17:23sake of the
17:24Palestinian
17:24because of
17:25the American
17:25putting
17:26pressure
17:26in each
17:27government
17:27of the
17:27Arab
17:28world
17:28unfortunately
17:29but at
17:30the end
17:30of the
17:30day I
17:31think there
17:31are still
17:31people who
17:32believe that
17:33the Palestinians
17:33have the
17:34right of
17:34existence in
17:35their own
17:35homeland
17:35Dr.
17:38Wailawad
17:38thank you so
17:39much for
17:39joining us
17:40with your
17:40perspective
17:41Russian
17:46forces
17:47fired nearly
17:47750 drones
17:49and missiles
17:50during overnight
17:51attacks
17:51targeting the
17:52western part
17:53of the
17:54country
17:54the attacks
17:55mainly targeted
17:56Ukraine's
17:56western
17:57Wallin region
17:58the capital
17:58of which
17:59Lutsk
18:00borders
18:00Poland
18:01and Belarus
18:01Russia's
18:02massive
18:03overnight
18:03attacks
18:04on Ukraine
18:04come as
18:05the US
18:06has announced
18:06it will
18:07reverse course
18:08on a recent
18:09decision to
18:09pause the
18:10delivery of
18:11air defense
18:11weaponry to
18:12Kyiv
18:12Russia has
18:22launched one
18:23of the largest
18:24drone attacks
18:24on Ukraine
18:25since the
18:26beginning of
18:26its invasion
18:27according to
18:28Ukrainian officials
18:29the attack
18:30involved 728
18:31drones and
18:3213 missiles
18:33targeting regions
18:34far from the
18:35active front lines
18:36the barrage
18:38came a day
18:38after US
18:39President
18:39Donald Trump
18:40reversed his
18:41stance on
18:41Ukraine
18:42and confirmed
18:42sending
18:43weapons to
18:44Ukraine
18:44which had
18:45previously
18:45been put
18:46on hold
18:46he also
18:47criticized
18:48Russian
18:48President
18:48Vladimir Putin
18:49and suggested
18:50that additional
18:51sanctions
18:51against
18:52Moscow
18:52are on the
18:53table
18:53that was
18:55that was a war
18:55that should
18:56have never
18:56happened
18:56and a lot
18:57of people
18:57are dying
18:58and it
18:59should end
18:59and I
19:00don't know
19:00we get
19:00we get
19:01we get a lot
19:02of bullshit
19:03thrown at us
19:04by Putin
19:04for you want
19:05to know
19:05the truth
19:05it's very nice
19:06all the time
19:07but it turns
19:08out to be
19:09meaningless
19:10I'm looking at it
19:15the Senate
19:17is passing
19:18and passed
19:19very tough
19:20sanctions
19:20but yeah
19:21I'm looking at
19:21in response
19:24the Kremlin
19:24said that
19:25it was calm
19:25regarding the
19:26criticism
19:27and maintained
19:27that they remain
19:28open to dialogue
19:29with the US
19:30you know
19:33we treat it
19:34quite calmly
19:34in general
19:35Trump has
19:36quite a tough
19:36style in terms
19:37of the phrasing
19:38he uses
19:38we hope to
19:39continue our
19:40dialogue
19:40with Washington
19:41and our course
