00:00Hello, new data has revealed the worst places in London when it comes to anti-social behaviour.
00:09The Mayor of London's office has stated that increased police patrols would be deployed at crime hotspots over the summer months
00:18with intelligence-led plain-clothed officers targeting prolific offenders and areas.
00:24It explained that the initiative formed part of the Home Office's National Safer Streets Summer Initiative,
00:33running from the 30th of June until the end of September.
00:37Deputy Commissioner for the Met, Matt Dukes, said the force was focusing on crimes that really mattered the most to Londoners.
00:45The identified town centre and high street hotspots included Stratford, Woolwich Town Centre, Finsbury Park in North London,
00:55and Croydon Town Centre, as well as Elephant and Castle, Seven Sisters and the West End.
01:02The operation would be conducted by multiple agencies, including the Met Police,
01:07the Mayor's Office for Policing and Crime, and local authorities as well, and community partners too.
01:16Hannah Whaley from the Safer Business Network remarked that when people felt safe, town centres flourished.
01:24The Met Police reported that it had solved 163% more shoplifting cases in the first six weeks of the current financial year compared to the same period last year.
01:37It also stated that theft from a person had dropped by 15.6% and personal robbery by 12.8%.
01:46Deputy Mayor for Policing and Crime, Kea Kommer-Schwarz, emphasised that the safety of town centres went beyond policing,
01:55highlighting the importance of building a stronger, more connected community throughout London,
02:02where everyone could feel safe and secure.
02:05Now, this raises broader questions about the extent of anti-social behaviour in London and whether residents feel safe in their neighbourhoods.
02:16I asked some Londoners how they felt in their communities.
02:18I'm pretty sure every line bike I see, there's like nine times out of ten, I'm hearing that clicking sound.
02:27And that's kind of a teaser of probably someone's not paid the price for the line bike.
02:35So I do hear that sound quite often.
02:37Not around here, I haven't.
02:39It used to be quite bad, actually, but not at the moment.
02:42I haven't seen anything like that.
02:45Say again?
02:46Have you ever seen any shoplifting at all?
02:48I haven't seen any shoplifting.
02:50I think it's mainly because the shops are closing down around here.
02:55So maybe, you know, shoplifters go somewhere else.
