In June and July 2025, businessman and former presidential advisor Elon Musk and U.S. President Donald Trump engaged in a series of social media attacks, primarily across X (formerly Twitter) and Truth Social, following Musk's exit from the second Trump administration with his criticisms of the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, a bill intended to be landmark legislation for Trump.
Prior to being political allies in 2024, Musk and Trump shared a history of mutual provocation. In 2022, Musk described Trump as an unsuitable president due to his age in response to Trump calling him a "bullshit artist". At a rally in Michigan in July 2025, Trump escalated the feud by stating, “Maybe it’s time he went back to where he came from”. He later added, “We’ll be reviewing his immigration status very closely.” Although Musk became a naturalized U.S. citizen in 2002, the remarks were widely interpreted by media outlets as a symbolic escalation of their personal and political conflict.
