Transcript
00:00Hi, I'm Laura Reid, the Deputy Features Editor at the Yorkshire Post and here's a look at what's
00:04coming up in the week ahead. This week it's St Swithin's Day and people will no doubt be paying
00:10attention to whether it's raining or sunshine on that particular day as tradition states that
00:15for the next 40 days to come the weather will remain the same. In Yorkshire this week there'll
00:21also be the launch of a special new production of The Railway Children. The story of The Railway
00:28Children has captured the hearts of generations since it was written by Ian Nesbitt back in the
00:33early 1900s. Not only has it been dramatised for radio and adapted for both film and television,
00:39it's also been crafted for the stage but now for the first time it's been taken on a ride along the
00:44Keithley and Worth Valley Railway which will be familiar to millions of viewers as being the
00:49very train tracks where the screen adaptations were shot. This special production has been created
00:54for Bradford's 2025 City of Culture year and the event begins on a steam train at Keithley. Passengers
01:02are then taken to the end of the historic railway line at Oxenhope where there's a purpose-built
01:07auditorium for the new version of the production. Elsewhere in Yorkshire this week an RHS flower show
01:14is being held at one of the grandest stately homes in the country. The show at Wentworth Woodhouse is set
01:19to feature a series of inspiring gardens that connect to Yorkshire's roots. RHS Teenage Dirt Park
01:26for example creates a planted green space inspired by the young people of BMX Rotherham, part of Rotherham's
01:31Children's Capital of Culture 2025, whilst RHS Rhubarb by Candlelight transports visitors into the
01:38Rhubarb Triangle Forest and pays homage to the West Yorkshire rhubarb industry. Other highlights of the show
01:45include the RHS miners garden which recreates a time when miners and their families lived in tight-knit
01:51communities locally and is a nod to the history of the Fitzwilliam family ownership of Wentworth Woodhouse
01:56and a once thriving local mining industry. The festival flower show runs from July 16th to the 20th.
02:05And finally this year's Fixed and Old Peculiar Crime Writing Festival, a celebration of crime fiction run by
02:12Harrogate International festivals. It's taking place from July 17th to the 20th this week. The festival's
02:18being curated by 2025 programming chair and best-selling author Mick Herron and offers people an opportunity
02:25to meet star writers in the genre and covers the bestsellers of Tomorrow 2. Headliners this year
02:32include Lee Child and Andrew Child, Steph McGovern, Paula Hawkins, Mark Billingham and Irvine Welsh who's making
02:40his festival debut.
