Typhoon Danas has moved away from Taiwan but it left significant damage in its wake, killing two people and injuring over 650, cutting off power to hundreds of thousands of households and causing over US$8 million in agricultural losses.

00:00Clean-up is underway along Taiwan's west coast, after Typhoon Danaz swept through the region.
00:08It's strong winds and heavy rain killing two people and injuring over 650,
00:13blowing down trees and road signs, and cutting off power to over 700,000 households.
00:19Taiwan's main electricity provider says it's been working to restore power,
00:23but around 180,000 homes are still in the dark.
00:30The typhoon also caused an estimated $8 million in agricultural damage, with cleanup just beginning.
00:52In Zhanghua, onion farmers said their crops had been ruined by the rain,
00:55and in Yunlin, corn stalks were blown over.
01:00The hardest-hit crop was pomelos, swept off their trees by large gusts of wind.
01:14In some areas, 80 to 90 percent were ruined.
01:18President Lai Qingde is expected to inspect the damage this afternoon,
01:22and the army was dispatched to help with cleanup efforts.
01:24Taiwan's military has also helped with evacuating people from Taiwan's outlying islands,
01:30where thousands of people had been stranded after the typhoon grounded flights.
01:35They arranged planes to transport over 500 people out of Taiwan's Dinmen Islands near China,
01:40but many others are still waiting on standby for flights.
01:44Taiwan is now clear of Typhoon Danaz, but the damage it's caused remains,
01:49affecting people's lives and livelihoods with a tough cleanup ahead.
