00:00The Marcos government wants 81-year-old Prudencio Calhubid Jr. returned to jail,
00:06saying he does look like the suspect a court ruled he had been mistaken for.
00:09The Office of the Solicitor General is appealing Calhubid's release,
00:13which was ordered by the Court of Appeals on June 28.
00:16It says the photo in Calhubid's Facebook page, quote,
00:19bore significant similarities to the wanted suspect.
00:21The court had granted Calhubid's petition for writ of habeas corpus,
00:25saying his arrest and detention were a case of mistaken identity.
00:28Calhubid was arrested in Ilongapo City last December
00:31on an arrest warrant for a person with the same name who was wanted for serious crimes.
00:35Calhubid and his family show documents to prove he was a different person.
00:39But the police arrested him anyway, and he ended up jailed for six months.
00:43The suspect the police are looking for was a consultant for the National Democratic Front
00:47and has been missing since his abduction in 2006.
00:51A retired technician, Calhubid suffers from chronic kidney disease, arthritis, and gout,
00:56all of which he endured while in detention.
00:58Human rights group Karapatan, says the OSG's motion for reconsideration, quote,
01:02harps on technicalities and merely repeats the PNP-CIDG's false claims
01:07that it had conducted extensive investigation and intelligence gathering
01:11to verify Calhubid's identity.
