00:00It's lights out and away we go. Verstappen gets an excellent reaction. Hamilton though is ahead
00:07of Perez but not for long as Max Verstappen now on the inside joins Hamilton in battle. It is
00:13Hamilton and Verstappen. Verstappen and Hamilton wheel-to-wheel going into the
00:17de Temporello chicane. Hamilton is force-wired and he's lost a little bit of bodywork as well.
00:22Sergio Perez is in third place at the moment looking to make it into second. The rest covered
00:29in a blanket of spray. Verstappen leads the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix from Lewis Hamilton.
00:34The two championship protagonists came together at the first breaking point. That was absolutely
00:40exceptional driving there with Verstappen. The Red Bulls did get off the line but Lewis tried to
00:46brave it out around the outside and ran out of road in these conditions and Max is entitled to take the
00:52line. I don't know if I've got damage. He pushed me right wide in turn one.
01:06Watch Verstappen here. Great reaction was already pointing towards his teammate Sergio Perez and then
01:11the gap opened up for him on the left-hand side of Lewis Hamilton's Mercedes and we now head into
01:17a Tamburello chicane and two and a one doesn't often go and it didn't.
01:23Yeah I mean in those conditions I I can't imagine that the stewards are going to be wanting to
01:30look at that with Verstappen. Oh yeah I mean that was just the perfect leaving the supermarket start
01:37wasn't it? Hardly any revs and just coasted away and then breaking having to break so early because
01:43nobody knows how much grip there is. Yeah he took the racing line and I do not believe that will
01:52be looked at need to be looked at by the stewards. Well Hamilton either had to back off or stay there
01:56and risk picking up some damage and the floor will be damaged as well because he's gone over
02:03the extra yellow curbs there. I think it was you can see the end plate just uh dangling a bit and
02:10eventually with a three or four thuds of the floor uh it comes off. Oh yeah hangs on for that that's a
02:18critical part for controlling the airflow down the side of the car and affects the rest of the car's
02:24balance as well so that's not a not a one none of the pieces are good to lose but especially that bit.
02:30So that was Perez getting out of shape and this is how Charles Leclerc managed to get past the other
02:35Red Bull at the Valiante Alta. Leclerc then after his uh misadventures on the formation lap up to third
02:42place Nicholas Latifi going off where Leclerc went off on the formation lap rejoins and in a few hundred
02:50meters time out of the race. You can see Stroll going past a Vettel going past in the Aston Martin.
02:55Oh and that was Nikita Mazepin giving him a tap or him colliding into Mazepin. Now we're going to see the other point of view
03:09as in comes Sebastian Vettel in the Aston Martin. Oh and that is Mick Schumacher at the exit of the pit lane.
03:26Schumacher is also in a bit of bother and a bit of difficulty he's kept the engine running he's now got
03:33the whole of the lap to get back to the pits where they'll be waiting for him with a new front wing
03:39but Mick Schumacher as we saw Sebastian Vettel coming in for a pit stop to change tyres well Schumacher's
03:45got to come in now to get a new front wing. So he started on the full wets so that wasn't at the end
03:52that wasn't exiting the pits was it has Schumacher pitted? No. No we're going to see the replay now but so I think he's
04:00playing and so they obviously got some debris at the pit exit is why they've closed the pit entry
04:07stop people coming down there and they can change the whole nose takes them normally 12-15 seconds
04:14they've got it normally you jack the car up of course on the nose. I see he was warming his tyres up and lost it
04:24well that front wing might just have been made in Italy but that's not really what the sponsors
04:30would have wanted to see heading towards their hauling. He was giving that plenty of lateral
04:34movement wasn't he young Mick there. What are you seeing Ant? Yeah listening in on a few drivers and
04:41they're all complaining at the safety cars going too slowly they're losing tyre temperature all the time
04:46another thing I picked up is that Max Verstappen's incredible start might have been the fact that he
04:50started in second gear so yeah really really good traction for him off the line
04:57by Max Verstappen that's going to hurt isn't it? Valtteri Bottas on lap 31 getting
05:01lacked by the race leader now trying to pick up a slipstream his teammate Lewis Hamilton trying to do
05:05the same as well 1.8 seconds the gap Hamilton still got a lot of cars down to Valtteri Bottas who is in ninth place
05:13oh and sliding off the road goes the Mercedes of Lewis Hamilton oh yes he might be unless he can find
05:22reverse and he's kept the engine running this is that and the runoff road and just try and find a way
05:27out of this situation yeah he realizes it's effectively a front-wheel drive car right now isn't it that he
05:33reverses out smart thinking he put so few revs on he knows that as soon as you spin around he's up digging
05:40yourself into the gravel and away he goes but he's going to need of course a pit stop
05:45so you can see the damage there to the front way Lewis Hamilton who has had what 50 consecutive points
05:51finishes and we're going to get a safety car now because that's Valtteri Bottas and George Russell
05:57you don't see Lewis Hamilton make a mistake too often do you maybe we'll get a mitigating circumstance
06:01if there is one well the face of it looks like a mistake and that 32 Mercedes lose three of their drivers
06:08don't they but well Hamilton will recover well we're just watching the replay now 10 on board with
06:13George Russell who hits Bottas yes because he gets onto the grass so he's going for the overtake
06:22gets onto the grass gets a tank slapper runs straight into Bottas you can you can hear the um yeah you
06:27you can hear the engine ribs go up massive impact
06:31Ricardo meetings we saw uh for Lewis Hamilton and behind him Yuki Simoda on the sub compound tire
06:38extraordinary still 17 runners then
06:43what's happened here to Kimi Raikkonen
06:44oh he very nearly made it 60.
06:55yeah he came in a fairly big square to drop didn't he with the back trip oh Max Verstappen what's
07:00happened there just trying to light up his tyres somewhat on the entry into Ravats and the trip to the
07:07grass that wasn't part of the playbook so that's a lucky one Max it was and in the end the Stappen has
07:15dropped Norris now quite progressively after the first time the way these tyres are if you take life out
07:20of them too early then they just don't give you any life at the end of the stint that is a big problem
07:25could be a problem unless Lando takes it really easy glad to say that uh Martin Bottas is fine now
07:31he's been uh released from the medical center after being winded in that incident he's back in the same
07:37to go after this day yeah good to hear thank you Ted meanwhile Sergio Perez dips a couple of tyres onto the
07:46Red Bull it looks a very fine machine this season it really does now here comes Hamilton uh trying to
07:53get as far up the order as he possibly can he's managed to clear Lance Stroll and he's managed to
07:58clear Daniel Ricciardo and that looks a bit easier with the overtake on Lance Stroll to be honest the
08:03DRS working Peckle's shoulders knew exactly what was coming up there and knew they'd be able to
08:07snatch the place back again as well yeah it's funny I don't know I guess all the drum in these things
08:14like so many of us have it's not going to go in the corner from there
08:22this would be that he had to swap sides didn't he so
08:25um that gets very buffy
08:32but it and they actually brought the tyres look
08:38a thorough examination given from a man and machine it's uh it's either uh uh Perez was in his roof
08:47there actually yeah you have to say it looks a little bit more in a second behind now doesn't it
08:53he does and i think you know without DRS for Leclerc that obviously will help Lewis Hamilton let's see as we get to the line
09:03who's got the DRS this time and it is not Charles Leclerc and it is Lewis Hamilton and is this what
09:09Hamilton needs to blast past that Ferrari very much is what he needed
09:12it's his first season in Formula One uh more experience under his belt i'm not saying he's
09:18he's done much wrong in his first two seasons he hasn't but he's beginning to look more and more
09:24impressive now for me super qualifying yesterday but sadly uh runs as wide as Pierre Gasly did
09:32under that corner but it's uh Pierre Teller and he's got his uh lap time deleted could have
09:36qualified third but he's uh put up a very good race here today and that's a puppy all right
09:41can be fine i think is the message right is Hamilton this time around close enough and he does look to be an awful lot closer and once again Norris makes him get up a lot better but Hamilton was close enough
09:50but Hamilton was close enough under breaking to get alongside and ahead he does move himself up in the second place it's Verstappen from Hamilton the charge of Hamilton is taking it back to the runners up place
10:06obviously a little bit inevitable didn't it once he once he got his eye in and stayed close enough
10:12through the two revaxes and that has allowed Ferrari to come at the McLaren a little bit
10:17it's five fingers crossed a British perspective but Lando Norris manages to hang on to that third
10:25place yeah he was just he was just a fraction of a second closer he's uh he's driven so well so clean the
10:32start was just perfect and uh yeah since then he's he hasn't looked back we talked about it a lot didn't we uh
10:40have a glass of water
10:47have a glass of water Nikita Mazzafi and another spin
10:51so for Lando Norris's teammate who DNF'd in all three races in Italy last year and who wins the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix this afternoon
11:01Max Verstappen for the first time in his career takes victory in Italy and it was a victory
11:08by a long long margin
11:11just a brilliant drive and yeah never headed
11:15after that turn uh two and three with that fight with Hamilton he made hard work of it today
11:21but I feel ended up where he really should have uh if all things have been fair well he finishes his run
11:27along big smiles down at McLaren as Lando Norris takes another podium in Formula One a super drive from him this afternoon
11:37I think Ferrari and prospect this is turning into something special I think certainly for Max Verstappen great recovery drive from Lewis Hamilton
11:46wonderful drive from Rando Norris to make amends of the disappointment in qualifying yesterday
11:52and a victorious drive for Max Verstappen surely not the last we'll see this year
11:57now to leave the championship by one point let's win on round three I can't wait for that
12:08I can't imagine what Alex Williams speakers are doing right now and the amount of salivating both him and Matthew are doing
