00:00:00You ever get nervous for the shows?
00:00:28I don't think it's nervous, it's like anxiety, so to speak, but not in the stressful way.
00:00:37It's like, me getting ready, prepared, so it's just like, I'm thinking about every
00:00:42moment, every step, and every second, so it's just like, okay, cool, let's go out there
00:00:46and do, I think.
00:00:47Some nights are stronger than other nights, some nights I'm just confident and just having
00:00:50fun, but some nights it's like, I got a point to prove, show them why I need to be doing
00:00:55this.
00:00:56It's disappointing for me in certain ways, because I feel like, you know, certain aspects
00:01:00of my career sometimes are overshadowed by the negative stuff, so it's like, that kind
00:01:06of like, fucks with my head a lot.
00:01:08Now, how I transition my creativity is basically all I want to kind of show, you know, because
00:01:14I'm tired of giving people something to talk about, you know.
00:01:18They should be talking about how I'm the baddest motherfucker on the stage instead of, you know,
00:01:23I'm the baddest motherfucker in the courtroom, you know what I'm saying.
00:01:27I just try to keep a level head, whether whatever problems going on, like, everybody go through
00:01:30this shit.
00:01:31I go through my shit most of the time, you know.
00:01:33I got a problem every day, but it's like, I try to just keep my head on straight, and
00:01:38I kind of channel some of that energy.
00:01:39If I'm angry, if I'm upset about something, I take it out on the stage.
00:01:46I'm standing here with a guy right now that knows everyone on the red carpet, and everybody
00:01:56wants to work with him.
00:01:57It's been a blessing.
00:01:58I just, I just can't do nothing but thank all my fans.
00:02:00I just appreciate all the support.
00:02:01It's been incredible.
00:02:02I ain't going back no more.
00:02:03I ain't going back no more.
00:02:04I ain't going back no more.
00:02:05I ain't going back no more.
00:02:06I ain't going back no more.
00:02:07I ain't going back no more.
00:02:08I ain't going back no more.
00:02:09Chris Brown.
00:02:10I just want to say thank all the fans.
00:02:12I love you with all my heart.
00:02:13You're 23 years old.
00:02:16I mentioned you came out with your first music when you were 16.
00:02:19You were discovered at 13.
00:02:20Chris Brown riding high.
00:02:22Brand new CD out.
00:02:23Fame.
00:02:24It's out today.
00:02:25Already has three number one hits.
00:02:26A fourth one climbing the charts.
00:02:28He's been labeled hip-hop's bad boy.
00:02:30Chris Brown is accused of assault and battery.
00:02:33The alleged fight broke out inside a Lamborghini.
00:02:36I'm going to tell you something.
00:02:37Let me be honest.
00:02:38I was disappointed.
00:02:39I almost felt let down because I said, this kid could be.
00:02:42Mm-hmm.
00:02:43The great superstar.
00:02:44Sentenced to five years of probation.
00:02:47180 days of community labor.
00:02:49I lost my best friend.
00:02:50Like everything I knew switched.
00:02:53Brown reportedly used a chair to smash a window in his dressing room.
00:02:56I guess he's not a morning person.
00:02:58How are you different?
00:02:59I've been humbled by the whole experience from me losing everything.
00:03:02Most importantly, knowing that what I did was totally wrong.
00:03:05It's also been said people like comeback stories.
00:03:08For me, it's about proving myself to my fans.
00:03:10I think that it's over.
00:03:11I think that it's over.
00:03:12I think that it's over.
00:03:13I swear to God I'm moving on.
00:03:15I swear to God I'm moving on.
00:03:20It's over. I think that it's over.
00:03:31I swear to God, I'm moving on.
00:03:33I'm from a small town, Tabernacle, Jr.
00:03:50As you see me through all my journey, I was about 15 when I started.
00:03:54It was a good start for me as a kid to be able to kind of start off green in a way.
00:04:05Chris was very, very active at a very early age, probably one before he was walking.
00:04:12He started out in childcare because I ran a childcare center.
00:04:15And he was probably one of the most active child in the facility itself.
00:04:20Since he was, like, two, he wanted to look at Michael Jackson's videos and dance.
00:04:26I mean, he could come to my house and get in between the doorways
00:04:30and actually climb them and do backflips, you know.
00:04:33So he was always full of energy all the time.
00:04:37He would go over to relatives' houses and whatnot, but nobody wanted him to spend the night
00:04:41because Chris was jumping from bed to bed.
00:04:44I was a fan of Michael Jackson's all my life, of course.
00:04:47So he was sitting in front of the TV. He would try to mimic his moves.
00:04:51Being able to see stuff on TV, whether it be my idols, Michael Jackson,
00:04:55or anybody that I looked up to at the time, you know, and be able to try to put myself in that world.
00:05:00I just tried to always look at it like, okay, I could do that.
00:05:03You know, being from a small town, you know, where there's not too many opportunities,
00:05:07but have that mentality to try to push forward and be something bigger and greater.
00:05:11In school, he liked to be the center of attraction.
00:05:16You know, it was cool upbringing, you know, real country.
00:05:19High school, about maybe 500 kids, and my graduating class was probably about 30.
00:05:24Chris was a happy-go-lucky type of kid.
00:05:26He was always smiling, always moving around, dancing.
00:05:30Every now and then, you might catch him over there singing.
00:05:32Even on the basketball court, he was somewhat, I guess you could say, creative and always moving
00:05:37and had different moves than the other kids.
00:05:39I used to go to all of his games.
00:05:41He used to show off a lot.
00:05:43It was like doing his moves on the court.
00:05:44And I'm like, are we playing ball here or what?
00:05:46He was really artistic.
00:05:48He loved to draw.
00:05:49He was mostly drawing assignments.
00:05:51And he was very good with the drawing, shading, and detail, and also with the coloring.
00:05:56He missed some time, basically, because of his, I guess, the routines he was going through.
00:06:00With my mom, she was a supporter from day one with my music.
00:06:03My dad, you know, he was there too.
00:06:05He actually first taught me how to moonwalk.
00:06:07He used to, you know, just do it like on gravel one day.
00:06:09I was like, man, how did he do that?
00:06:11He was a kid, just acting out what he saw.
00:06:14But he actually sung on church choirs at an early age.
00:06:18He was good at everything, whether he played basketball, football.
00:06:21He had his own style.
00:06:22He might not always had, you know, the means to have, like, the best of everything,
00:06:26because, you know, times are hard.
00:06:28But he would take older clothes, rip them up, tie them back a certain way, adjust them, and make his own style.
00:06:34He would dye his hair red.
00:06:36And then he would go to school and sing, like, at basketball games or football games,
00:06:40and all the girls would crowd around him.
00:06:42So he really enjoyed that.
00:06:43I hate performing when there ain't no girls.
00:06:46When there ain't no girls, they just take the life out of the performance, because you can't just...
00:06:50Well, my success, you know, I would have to give it all to my family, you know?
00:06:59I think our values as family members and, you know, whether it be your mom, your dad, cousins, uncles, aunts, you know?
00:07:07Grandma, grandpa, I think everybody had a real warm and humble approach in life.
00:07:12See, see how she, you know she, you know she really can feel it when she's singing and she laughs like that.
00:07:16Listen, listen, listen. Look at her car.
00:07:20Chris's mom, she was very supportive of his career.
00:07:23From the beginning, she always believed in him.
00:07:25She's actually one to say, you can sing.
00:07:27His father worked at the gas station.
00:07:28There was a guy who came by.
00:07:29He said he was looking for some talent.
00:07:31And his father said, well, you know, my son sings.
00:07:34It was something that I knew that he was just interested in.
00:07:37So I just went with the flow.
00:07:38She pretty much dropped it and went to New York to be with him.
00:07:42From there, they did a little video.
00:07:44And the video got in the hands of L.A. Reid and L.A. Reid, so I didn't fell in love with him.
00:07:49When I heard about Chris, L.A. Reid, one of my influences, he said, you know, I really wish that you can have a conversation with Chris.
00:07:57I mean, you tell him what you want to tell him, as long as you tell him to come with me.
00:08:01Tell me about the phone call from Usher. That must have been a little bit crazy.
00:08:05I mean, it was exciting because, like, I never talked to a celebrity before.
00:08:09Yeah.
00:08:10But, like, it was my first time.
00:08:12He called me, he was like, what's up?
00:08:13And I was like, who this?
00:08:14He was like, oh, Usher.
00:08:15I was like, oh, what?
00:08:16I told him to make his decision where he goes based off of what's real more than anything.
00:08:22He got to rock with family.
00:08:24So he was like, yeah, man, I hear you about to get signed with a different label.
00:08:28I was just asking him, like, who should I go with?
00:08:30And then he was like, just make sure it's the best decision for you.
00:08:32Whatever decision you pick and whatever decision you make is the best for you.
00:08:37That was our first conversation across the board.
00:08:40It started from there.
00:08:41His fame came instant.
00:08:49You know, it came all at once.
00:08:50He was discovered at the age of 13 at a gas station where his father was.
00:08:55Now he is a platinum recording artist.
00:08:58Ladies and gentlemen, Chris Brown.
00:09:00Being able to maneuver at 15 and try to, you know, and have the success that I did have at the time, I was like, man, this is crazy.
00:09:07When Run It came out, I heard him screaming all the way out, Mom, Mom, my song is on the radio.
00:09:13They singing it, though.
00:09:15Run It! Run It! Run It! Run It! Run It!
00:09:19I remember meeting Chris Brown for the first time in Miami.
00:09:23He just got that recording, Run It!
00:09:27And as soon as it got done out of the studio, it got in my hands and I went on the radio and broke it.
00:09:33It helped break that record.
00:09:35It was a record I believed in.
00:09:37I knew he was going to be the next superstar the day I met him.
00:09:41I remember the first time Chris Brown came on 106 and Park.
00:09:45I saw people lined up all the way down the block.
00:09:50And I didn't know, I thought some kind of fire drill was taking place or something like that.
00:09:54And as I got closer, I just, you know, I saw it was kids.
00:09:57And then I looked and I saw they had spray paint on the t-shirts and, you know, the signs that said, you know, marry me, Breezy.
00:10:05I love you, Breezy.
00:10:06Chris Brown for life.
00:10:07And I was like, what is going on?
00:10:09It was fun, but also I'm sure it was very stressful because he couldn't just walk into the store and go shopping, you know, just go play basketball at the gym like he used to.
00:10:21It wasn't the same anymore.
00:10:22He didn't understand that because he figured he could just go and he'd be fine.
00:10:25I'm a normal kid.
00:10:26I'm just Chris.
00:10:27I'm like, no, it doesn't work that way anymore.
00:10:29Well, you know, being 14 and 15 with a record deal, you know, it's the best feeling in the world, but it also comes with complications, you know?
00:10:37I think it's tough for anybody to start out at 14, 15 because you ain't even in high school.
00:10:41You ain't had a chance to like just live a regular life.
00:10:44You've already been a star.
00:10:45So a lot of that's overwhelming.
00:10:46Being that most of your family have dealt with poverty and, you know, under minimum wage, kind of living, you know, most of your life.
00:10:55$10,000 to me was like, dang, I'm rich, you know?
00:10:59My son calls me.
00:11:00I'm at work.
00:11:01And he goes, Mom, like, you know, there's people outside of our door recording and taking pictures from paparazzi to even people you knew just, you know, made it different and difficult having a normal life.
00:11:14I just was more overwhelmed by, but just not letting it shape me, like not letting the money kind of shape what I want to do as an artist.
00:11:21Just like with every family, you have problems and complications, you know, sometimes jealousy and envy plays a big role.
00:11:27It's kind of new to them.
00:11:29Like it's not really something that even myself really could comprehend at the time.
00:11:35His mom and dad, you know, they had a great relationship and, you know, one day I guess they were all together at home as a family and then it, you know, it fell apart.
00:11:44Chris not having a father in the house made him to grow up faster than what he actually had to.
00:11:49It was a lot.
00:11:50It was more than I knew that he could handle.
00:11:52What I always call it is, as I tell Chris, it's God's balance.
00:11:56God is going to give you that great opportunity to be something fantastic.
00:12:00And then at the same time, he's going to level darkness around you that's going to keep you balanced.
00:12:04So with a person that's 14, 15, hopefully they have someone there to recognize the dark, the dark patches and say,
00:12:11okay, yeah, we can do this, but you just got to be mindful of that.
00:12:14Yeah, it was a challenge.
00:12:15And this growing up thinking that he was in this adult world and thinking that he could do what the adults do.
00:12:22But no, just because it's there for you, you're not going to do that.
00:12:25That is not what you do.
00:12:26For me, having my mother there created a balance.
00:12:30And I think it was a bit difficult period for him.
00:12:34You sound very driven.
00:12:35Yeah, definitely.
00:12:36Yeah.
00:12:37You live with your mom, right?
00:12:38Yeah.
00:12:39I think he felt that he had to take care of me.
00:12:41I got to take care of my mom because my dad is not there.
00:12:44I'm the dad of the house where he felt that he was the man of the house.
00:12:48That's how he thought.
00:12:49And that's actually what he said.
00:12:51Your family, you expect to be your family.
00:12:54So even family sometimes, you know, change.
00:12:58At that point, it was kind of hard because Chris was back and forth with me and his father.
00:13:05And it was hard for his father because I had left.
00:13:08He grew up so fast, he didn't really get to have a childhood or, you know, a teenage life of a normal person.
00:13:16Actually, we wanted him to have to speak to a psychiatrist to just prepare him for what was about to happen because he blew up so fast.
00:13:25Knowing that he would not know how to handle it so that he could talk about it and how it made him feel.
00:13:30But we never could get him to do that.
00:13:32I want to be at the pinnacle, like the highest point to where I'm where I'm known as like a legend almost.
00:13:38Two years ago, this artist was just another kid in high school.
00:13:44Now, two years later, he's one of the biggest stars in the world.
00:13:50Tonight, performing at the VMAs for the very first time, Chris Brown.
00:13:56I was backstage and my dancer, he ran in, Moody. He was like, yo, you got to see him. He's on stage right now. He's crazy.
00:14:15And I was like, I'm coming, I'm coming. And out of nowhere, I heard like this groundswell of like hysteria.
00:14:22You know what I'm saying? Like these, it was just loud. It was loud as though, it was loud as it was when I was on stage.
00:14:28So I ran out there, and there he was, killing it. And then I realized, oh my God, he's truly gifted. He's talented, man, in a way that we haven't seen in a long, long time, you know?
00:14:47He has a gift, a gift like Michael Jackson had that makes you scratch your head and say, what else is he doing?
00:14:55Because I've seen these steps before. I've seen these moves before. But what else is Chris Brown doing?
00:15:02But when I got in the game, I kind of was like, I wouldn't say alone, but I was like, to myself, I had to prove myself.
00:15:08People wanted to be like, okay, well, cool. Well, what is this kid about? Well, what can he do?
00:15:13I remember Chris's first BET Awards performance. I remember he came out with that white jacket.
00:15:23I think I was backstage at the time I had to present shortly after, and I just remember hearing the rumbling.
00:15:28And so we went, we're looking at the monitor, and we're just watching this kid. Man, we're watching him kill it.
00:15:35This dude is really, really special. I knew he was special, but I didn't realize how incredible of a dancer he was until that day.
00:15:42And I felt blessed to have him.
00:15:46It really showed the best of Chris's ability to sing and dance and win over a crowd.
00:15:52The only person I ever thought about like that is Michael Jackson.
00:15:58There's Michael Jackson, and there's Chris Brown. And that's his facts.
00:16:04Just like Michael Jackson opened the door for Usher, I believe that Usher opened the door for Chris.
00:16:14For any person, African American artist, period, to have come up in that time and be successful and have that, you know, very delicate mixture of being a singer, dancer, performer, entertainer. Man, it was hard.
00:16:30He was a trailblazer. He was setting the tone. You know, there was a, you know, a shift in how things were sounding.
00:16:37And there was this shift that was happening from, you know, the grungy street sound and how rap was just so hard to how, you know, hip-hop and R&B and everything was like turning into more dance and more fun.
00:16:51When I first heard Chris's sound, I was definitely, I just remember it was just like kids just getting all ways down like on the streets and doing all these beat-bop dances.
00:17:01And like, I'm not a dancer, but I definitely was dancing. And I think what Chris started was kind of like that confidence boost in not only males, but I think in females too.
00:17:12And I think he paid a lot of respect to the dancer community.
00:17:16I just remember seeing this young, fresh-faced kid, like, who's about to take over the world in so many ways.
00:17:24Because it seems like this whole thing just happened so quickly. How does it seem for you?
00:17:29It's just, it's just a blessing. It's been going real, real fast. Everything's happening so fast.
00:17:33I was excited for him. He was so excited. But after that, I guess he blew up instantly. We was on a tour. We went here. We went there. Everything was, and he was so excited and so happy in the music industry at that time.
00:17:46Chris Brown? What's up? Chris Brown? Yeah. Hi. Hey.
00:17:52It's your boy Chris Brown, man. You're going to have to run a siren on it, man. You're going to have to drop it. You're going to have to do the dang thing on it, man. You already know how you do it on Power 106 for hip-hop lives.
00:18:00I got to give her game proper. Split it so she get it. There she is. I got to stop her. Yeah.
00:18:17Once I got an opportunity to continuously make music and be creative and dance and show people my talents, I think that overpowered everything as a whole.
00:18:28I think people kind of saw it and kind of took it for what it was worth. And it was like, oh, you know what? This guy is really talented. I think he has potential. I think he can do his thing.
00:18:38You know, what he was able to do as a performer was kind of effortless in the way that he performed. I don't know if it was just his passion for it or the fact that he was well studied or just the simple fact that he just knew where to put every move.
00:18:54It was just perfectly placed. He knew his choreography was well prepared, man.
00:19:00But greater than just understanding choreography, he understood the magic of singing and dancing.
00:19:05And that right there is a technique that not every artist understands. It takes a lot of hard work and focus. And as a teenager for him to be able to do that, I just knew that this kid definitely is headed for major success.
00:19:20I think he definitely helped take kind of R&B and hip hop and make it more popular for sure, make it more pop and more radio and just more top 40.
00:19:38He definitely has his kind of finger on the pulse of the sound of the streets. There's lots of great singers. There's amazing, great artists out there.
00:19:47But not everybody sings and dances and performs on a level like a Chris Brown does.
00:19:52Team Breezy, they go hard. You know, they were crazy. Anytime we had like a, you know, anytime he had a video, it was always voted number one.
00:20:01Anytime there was like any type of competition between him and other artists, he would kind of always blow people out of the water.
00:20:08I just try to put 100% in everything I do, my music, you know, what I'm doing as an everyday person.
00:20:13So, you know, I just want to influence and inspire the world just to be better, you know, hopefully be better with my music.
00:20:18He had this energy about him that was unreal, like he was nonstop.
00:20:24Every song he played, he had a different idea for it. He had the video for it.
00:20:35But what I love the most about Chris is his presence. His presence really stands out.
00:20:41You know, I mean, you know that thing when people are like, they're just superstars? Chris is just a superstar.
00:20:47Standing here with a guy right now that knows everyone on the red carpet and everybody wants to work with him.
00:20:52He's got three nominations tonight. Of course, Chris Brown. How you doing, buddy?
00:20:55I'm good, man. How about yourself? You good?
00:20:56Are you kidding me? Hanging out with you guys? A great year for you.
00:20:59Yeah, it's been a blessing. I just, I just can't do nothing but thank all my fans. I just appreciate all the support. It's been incredible.
00:21:05The winner is Chris Brown.
00:21:11I'm going to try to keep it short. They got the countdown on the, on the prompter. So, uh, I'm kind of totally, I would have gave it to Coldplay.
00:21:31But, uh, I'm, I'm really, uh, I'm lost for words. I just want to say thank all the fans. I love you with all my heart. I just, thank you.
00:21:41You know, I went from, you know, being on top of the world, number one songs and, you know, being kind of like America's sweetheart, you know, to, to be public enemy number one.
00:21:52Prosecutors have charged singer Chris Brown with two felonies, including assault.
00:22:08Assault for allegations of domestic violence damage.
00:22:11Much more serious, much more violent.
00:22:13Rami award nominee has just posted bail on criminal threat charges.
00:22:17I think I was about 15. Um, the first time we actually met, um, it was at a show. I think it was E 100, a show in New York. And we were, uh, and I, I've been hearing her, met like her music and stuff from, you know, the radio. It was big number one hit. And I was just sitting there. I was like, man, okay, cool. I want to see what she looked like. I want to meet her. I seen her videos. I was like, oh, she cute.
00:22:44So, you know, I seen her. I saw her at the show and she was like, Hey, what's up? How you doing? She had an accent. I was like, never heard that before that. It kind of sound good. You know what I'm saying? So I said, you know what? Let me talk to her, see what she talking about. Just be cool with her. We exchange information and stuff like that. And through passing, we will be on the same shows.
00:23:02She would always like perform and then we'll go sit in the crowd. She watched my show. So I was like nervous. I was like, do she like me? I didn't know if she liked me or not, but I was just like, she's really watching the show. So she actually, actually much like my music. So from there, you know, we just became friends and friends kicking more, kicking nothing too serious, but we just had, you know, a good understanding of each other.
00:23:24What's all these dating rumors, Chris? Yes, no.
00:23:26Um, I would just keep it as just, we just doing our thing, just having fun.
00:23:31You know, just one day I remember it was like right before our VMA performance. Me and her did the VMA performance, my first ever one. It was a couple months before that and I remember staying over her house and I was just like, man, what are we doing?
00:23:43And she was just like, what you mean? I was like, I'm always over here. Like, we like each other, obviously. Let's just, let's just do it. Let's just be boyfriend and girlfriend.
00:23:52She started laughing. She said, you ain't serious. I don't think you want to do that. I was like, why? She's like, no, no, no. You ain't ready. And I was like, nah, I am. I think I'm ready for real.
00:24:02So then I remember, I was like, I think I love you. She was, she was looking at me like, what? Like, did I say the word? You know? So, you know, at that time when we did the VMAs, it was more like we kept our relationship secret.
00:24:14So we had been together for maybe like, I want to say eight months prior. So it was just, we just kept it to ourselves. We didn't want everybody to know. We just wanted to, you know, just to be like, okay, if they guess it, they guess it.
00:24:25But right now we love each other. So I really don't care about everybody else. So we did the show and it was like that moment when you got a chance to say, okay, yeah, they're dating.
00:24:37They're talking. At that moment, she had like the biggest records out, like was going crazy. And me, I still was going strong with all my records and new stuff.
00:24:46When we got a chance to do that show, it was kind of like both of us being able to show the world like, hey, we both are dope, talented artists.
00:24:51And we both, you know, are going to make a mark in this world. It was, it was like a fairy tale.
00:24:59To see Rihanna and Chris when they first started dating, it was magical, you know?
00:25:04And those two, they were kind of inseparable. You know, you would hear about them being in the studio.
00:25:09You would hear, you know, they're coming into the club together. And it was just, it was just an energy.
00:25:15At that time in our career, being that young, being naive, gullible, but also just happy, just, just wanting to be everywhere.
00:25:23I mean, it was no other feeling like it.
00:25:25But with her, with Rihanna, it was just like our power that we had at that age.
00:25:30It was just, it's dangerous, man. Like, you can go anywhere. Like, we couldn't go to a hotel and not have a thousand fans outside waiting.
00:25:39You know what I'm saying? We couldn't go to any restaurant and just eat.
00:25:41Like, real-life rock stars at 16 to 17 years old, man, that's dangerous because you can do whatever you want.
00:25:48I just think we were, like, the perfect, like, and bad combination. Like, it was just good and bad together. It just, uh.
00:25:56I want to say maybe a year and a half into the relationship with Rihanna, I just, I really was serious about it.
00:26:03Like, you know, I was, I was always goofy about everything else, being a young kid, but the maturity level I had in my beliefs was what I wanted with my girlfriend.
00:26:12You know what? I want to marry you, but I want before, you know, we go any further, I just want to be able to be honest and be completely real with you about everything you've ever had a question about or a doubt about.
00:26:23Or she had asked me, like, right when we first started dating, hey, you ever mess with this, this person? And this person, uh, she worked for me at the time.
00:26:31And I said, nah, nah, nah, man, you know what it is. You know, I brushed it to the side. One, I didn't want her knowing my business. Two, I just didn't know who she would tell her if I tell her what I'm doing, you know what I'm saying?
00:26:43So, around like the eighth month or maybe like a little bit after that BMA performance, I just broke it to her. I said, hey, I want to marry you, but I want to be real with you.
00:26:51I want to, I want to be honest with you and tell you, you know, everything. This is what it is. Before we were together, me and this other girl did have sex.
00:27:02My trust totally was the loss with her. You know what I'm saying? She hated me. After that, I tried everything. Like, she didn't care. Like, she just didn't trust me after that.
00:27:10And from there, it just went downhill because, you know, it would be fights. It would be verbal fights, physical fights as well. Mutual sides.
00:27:18And this is the first time I get to say anything. And like I said, I still love Rihanna, but it's, it's, I'm just going to be honest.
00:27:25We would fight each other. She would hit me. I would hit her. Um, and, but it never was okay. It was always, it was always a point to where we, we talk about it.
00:27:34Like, yo, what the fuck are we doing? Like, I don't like that. I don't like you slapping me.
00:27:38Like, if I go on stage, I got a scratch on my face and I got to explain it. Like, oh, no, I fell. Or like, oh, you, or like, if you got a, if you got a scar or whatever, or bruise, you got to put makeup on.
00:27:49I feel like shit. Like, I'm like, I'm not, like, I'm not ever trying to put my hands on any female.
00:27:54Anger or whatever, you have to walk away from the situation. Never, ever put your hands on anyone.
00:28:00You know, that was his girl. You know what I'm saying? So I feel like, you know, what he went through is, it was like a test and it wasn't so much of the situation.
00:28:10I think it was just a test in life.
00:28:15I was just like Chris. I was very successful at a young age. And when you're really successful, I was taught that can't should be a foreign, foreign language to you.
00:28:25A no should be a foreign language to you. You shouldn't be able to understand the language of no or you can't.
00:28:31Like me, I felt like a fucking monster.
00:28:3320-year-old pop star Rihanna is the woman involved in the alleged domestic violence assault case.
00:28:41I lost my best friend. Like, everything I knew switched and I couldn't control that.
00:28:47So I had to deal with that and that's not, that's not easy for me to understand.
00:28:52Seven years ago, when I was about 17, 18, you know, the whole Rihanna incident happened.
00:28:57And, you know, a lot of that, that changed my life.
00:28:59And that night at that Clive Davis party that I made sure, the person that I was involved with before, I said,
00:29:09hey, if you can't come around to these places, and the person comes in, comes right to the table and says, hey, what's up, y'all?
00:29:17And I already know it's an issue, so I say, hey, cool. And I keep it, and they keep it moving and leave.
00:29:22And I look, I look over at Rihanna, and she's bawling. She's just crying.
00:29:26In the middle of the ceremony about to start, she's just crying.
00:29:28And I'm like, yo, yo, yo, yo, yo, yo, please, please, baby, don't do this.
00:29:32Like, don't do this in here. Like, like, I didn't know. I promise. I swear to God, I didn't know.
00:29:36So she got over it. She started drinking a little bit. We both were drinking a little bit.
00:29:41We was tipsy, laughing, joking, you know, and then we left.
00:29:46And Juan, just a few hours ago, we saw Chris Brown drive off.
00:29:49According to sources, the alleged fight broke out inside a Lamborghini that was located at Hancock Park.
00:29:56As you know, young relationships, any relationship is based on trust,
00:30:00because I told her that she didn't trust me with anything.
00:30:03So I would give her the option of, oh, you can look at my phone.
00:30:06So I gave her the phone. She looks at the phone, there's a message, and it says,
00:30:11kill the Grammys, do your thing.
00:30:13And I didn't read the rest of the message. I didn't open it.
00:30:17So she opened the message, and the rest of the message said,
00:30:19I'll see you at the club party.
00:30:21So I thought she thought I was lying.
00:30:24She starts going off. She throws the phone.
00:30:26I hate you, whatever, whatever.
00:30:28Starts hitting me. We're in a little Lamborghini.
00:30:30You know, she's fighting me, and I'm like, look, I'm telling you the truth.
00:30:33I swear to God, you know, I'm telling you the truth. Stop it.
00:30:36So then she hits me a couple more times, and I just kind of just,
00:30:39it doesn't go from translation to let's sit down.
00:30:42And I'm telling you the truth.
00:30:43It goes to, now I'm feeling to be mean and be evil, arguing, arguing, arguing.
00:30:49So then, like, I remember she tried to kick me.
00:30:52It's like just her just being upset.
00:30:54But then I really hit her.
00:30:55Like, with a closed fist, like I punched her.
00:30:58You know, and it busted her lip.
00:31:01And when I saw it, I was in shock.
00:31:02I was like, fuck, why the hell did I hit her?
00:31:04Like, so from there, she's just spit in my face.
00:31:07Like, spit the blood in my face.
00:31:09And I'm like, you know, so it raised me even more.
00:31:11Like, it's a real-on fight in a car.
00:31:13We driving down the street.
00:31:14So I'm like, yo, hey, we tripping.
00:31:17Like, what the fuck?
00:31:18Like, what are we doing?
00:31:19She's trying to grab for my phone.
00:31:20And I'm not giving her my phone to throw it out of the window.
00:31:24So she grabs my nuts.
00:31:27And when she do that, I actually, I bite her arm, I think, as I'm driving.
00:31:32Because I'm still trying to drive.
00:31:34And it's just like a petty, like, stupid fight, bro.
00:31:37And I'm just realizing it.
00:31:39I'm like, look, what the hell am I doing, bro?
00:31:41What are you, like, you honestly doing this in the car right now?
00:31:44Like, what are we doing?
00:31:45So I pull over in Hancock Park, maybe less than two, three miles from my house.
00:31:49Because I'm just trying to resolve the situation.
00:31:51I'm not trying to fight any further.
00:31:52I don't want to, like, I love her.
00:31:54I don't want to hurt my girlfriend.
00:31:56And so I pull over.
00:31:59And I said, look, like, I'm telling you the truth.
00:32:01Like, I'm crying.
00:32:01She's crying.
00:32:02Like, I'm telling you the truth.
00:32:03I swear to God, like, I didn't do it.
00:32:05I didn't, like, I didn't know she was fucking coming.
00:32:08I didn't know.
00:32:09I promise.
00:32:10She just didn't believe me.
00:32:11Like, she said, I just know you're lying to me.
00:32:13You're lying to me.
00:32:14She takes the keys out of the car.
00:32:16I'm in park.
00:32:17She takes the keys out of the car and throws faces like she throws them out the window.
00:32:21And I'm like, what are you doing?
00:32:22And I get out the car.
00:32:24When I get out the car, I'm looking for the keys in somebody's yard.
00:32:26And she yells out out of her door, help, he's trying to kill me.
00:32:31I said, stop.
00:32:31Like, we're going to get in trouble.
00:32:33So I'm looking for the keys.
00:32:35She's sitting on the keys.
00:32:37So I'm like, you know what?
00:32:38I can't play this game with you.
00:32:39So I'm getting my bags out of the car.
00:32:42She takes my CDs.
00:32:43This is back when I would record on CDs.
00:32:45You couldn't put it on your phone when you need a studio.
00:32:47So I had new music and she was just scratching it up.
00:32:50I just seen her scratching it up with the keys.
00:32:52So I let her, I started to snatch the bag.
00:32:54And I was like, you know what?
00:32:55You got the keys.
00:32:57You can drive home.
00:32:58By this time, her lip was busted.
00:33:00She had a knock because I pushed her head up against the window.
00:33:03And, and, you know, a lot, a lot of the times, like, I look back at that picture and I'm just like,
00:33:10yo, bro, like, that's not me, bro.
00:33:13That's not, that's not me.
00:33:15Like, I just, I hate it to this day.
00:33:18You know what I'm saying?
00:33:19That's going to haunt me forever.
00:33:20I was hurt the most.
00:33:23Nobody felt what I felt.
00:33:26It happened.
00:33:27It happened to me.
00:33:28And it happened to me in front of the world.
00:33:32It was embarrassing.
00:33:33It was humiliating.
00:33:34It was hurtful.
00:33:35You know, it's not easy.
00:33:38Chris Brown is accused of assault and battery.
00:33:40You're a great dancer, a great singer.
00:33:42You're popular and known all over the world.
00:33:44You ever say to yourself, I screwed up.
00:33:46I can remember the night when he called me and we was in L.A. and the incident had happened.
00:33:52And he's a mom, please come.
00:33:55I just did something really bad.
00:33:57Like, oh my God, what is it?
00:33:58And this was, this was the Grammys.
00:34:00It was the Clive Davis party we had just left with him and Rihanna at the table.
00:34:05And I'm like, my heart just dropped, but I had no idea what he was going to tell me.
00:34:09And I get to the hotel and he's laying in the bed crying and crying.
00:34:13And he was hiding, of course, crying like, Mom, Mom was like, what did you do?
00:34:18And he told me, I'm like, that was the most, that was the worst day of my life and probably
00:34:23of his life because he, I just saw that he was just a broken person.
00:34:27There are these moments, right?
00:34:29In every artist's career that they say, what the fuck was I thinking?
00:34:35He was laying in bed and he was crying and he was devastated about what happened.
00:34:39But his main concern was, oh, how was she and was she okay?
00:34:44Of course, legal went down and he was arrested or he turned himself in.
00:34:49So he was just devastated.
00:34:51And just seeing him in that state was the worst ever.
00:34:54And I felt like I was going to lose my child.
00:34:57I hated myself, you know, so I didn't, I was thinking about suicide and everything else.
00:35:01So it was just like, fuck.
00:35:03But from there, I said, you know what, I'll just, I'm going to just take everything.
00:35:06You know, I just call my consequences for my actions have to be dealt with, you know.
00:35:11I turn myself in the next day.
00:35:14When I first met him, he was 18.
00:35:16The male's brain doesn't fully form an impulse control until you're 25.
00:35:20About six years ago last month, I got a call from a buddy in New York who said,
00:35:26it was the morning of the Grammys, it was a Sunday, it was about 6.30,
00:35:30and my buddy says, there's this guy, there's an arrest warrant for him, LAPD's looking for him.
00:35:36His name is Chris Brown, and the complaining witness, his name is Rihanna.
00:35:40He called me, I think it was maybe an hour or two after it happened.
00:35:45And he was, you know, he was scared, like in disbelief.
00:35:50Like he couldn't even believe this was even going on.
00:35:52I couldn't believe that.
00:35:54But he was, you know, he was scared.
00:35:56I have been through a lot in my life,
00:35:57but that was the most devastating thing I've ever had to experience to see the hurt and the pain
00:36:02on his face and not knowing what was going to happen to him.
00:36:06I look at it and it's really like, how could I be that person?
00:36:12Yeah, well, the case originally was an assault with a deadly weapon, criminal threats,
00:36:18various charges like that involving strike offenses, serious felonies.
00:36:23He wanted to immediately take responsibility, wanted to plead guilty.
00:36:29Plead guilty, didn't, didn't, you know, argue, didn't say,
00:36:33hey, no, let's let me fight this case and take it to trial and just say,
00:36:37hey, she fought me back.
00:36:39No, I'm not, that's, that's not where my head was at.
00:36:41And that's not where it is now.
00:36:43You know, I, I, I loved her, you know,
00:36:45I, I wanted to protect her because I did too much stuff to her.
00:36:49Like, I did what I did, so it was wrong.
00:36:51Explain quickly, Mark, what he pled guilty to.
00:36:54Uh, assault, basically, was what it is.
00:36:56A felony assault charge.
00:36:58The hardest, you know, person to, to say,
00:37:02like, I'll talk about it to what would be,
00:37:05I would say probably my, my father.
00:37:09You know what I'm saying?
00:37:10My father and my, my real father.
00:37:12I would, I don't want to disappoint my father
00:37:14because he actually was there for me.
00:37:18But my mom, it was a little bit more closer to heart
00:37:21because I seen my mom deal with that, you know, firsthand.
00:37:25Not from my father.
00:37:27My biological father, Clinton Maurice Brown,
00:37:29is a great man, you know.
00:37:32But her, a significant other at the time,
00:37:35my mother, a significant other,
00:37:37he was a monster, animal, pure hatred, evil,
00:37:41and I never hated somebody in my life.
00:37:43Like, if I, like, if I could kill him, I would.
00:37:47So, I, I promised my mom one day,
00:37:49I said, look, mom, you know, if I, like,
00:37:53I know you tell me not to do, like, crazy shit
00:37:56and hang with these niggas and do what I do,
00:37:58I said, but when I get 15, I'm gonna kill him.
00:38:02Like, I'm not playing, I'm not, I'm not joking,
00:38:05I'm serious, I'm gonna take his life.
00:38:06So, that's the kind of hatred this guy brings for me
00:38:10and fear and stuff like that.
00:38:13So, I'm terrified of this man.
00:38:14You know, I would be at home, you know.
00:38:17He blew his brains out when I was six,
00:38:19but he didn't die.
00:38:20Like, he shot himself in the head
00:38:21and he went blind and shit.
00:38:23I was six years old, bro.
00:38:24Like, the fuck?
00:38:26How does a kid deal with that shit?
00:38:28And then, being that he's physically impaired now,
00:38:32it frustrates him more, so he's in a depression.
00:38:35So, but he takes it out on his girl.
00:38:37This girl happens to be my mom.
00:38:39This is what I had to deal with.
00:38:40Like, I had to hear my mom get beat up every night.
00:38:44You know, I had to pee on myself, like, scared.
00:38:46Scared to even get up and walk in the hallway
00:38:47because I didn't want to see nothing.
00:38:49Like, you know what I'm saying?
00:38:49So, nobody knows that fear that they have to deal with.
00:38:52And then, it transcends sometimes his learned behavior.
00:38:58So, me having to see my mom look at me through that light,
00:39:03like, I just saw him.
00:39:06That's who I saw.
00:39:07I saw him.
00:39:08I didn't see Chris.
00:39:09I seen that motherfucker.
00:39:11And so, that's what ate at me a lot.
00:39:13That's what killed my soul a lot
00:39:16because I was the one thing I was running from.
00:39:19Sometimes, you try to run away from the one thing
00:39:23that you don't want to become,
00:39:25and you become it.
00:39:27The only person they hit right now is him.
00:39:30The only thing Chris Brown is guilty of?
00:39:32A felony.
00:39:32Yes.
00:39:35We don't know everything that went down.
00:39:38This is a tough one.
00:39:39You know, he's in huge trouble.
00:39:41We're not going to put up with domestic violence
00:39:44as business as usual.
00:39:45And I think we should just take this
00:39:46and keep moving with it.
00:39:48We're not saying that he should be thrown in jail.
00:39:50We're saying he should get treatment.
00:39:52It was a weird, confusing space to be in
00:39:54because as angry as I was,
00:39:56angry and hurt and betrayed,
00:39:59I just felt like
00:40:00he made that mistake because he needed help.
00:40:04The label, the name woman beater,
00:40:10it's something I would say to somebody.
00:40:14You know what I'm saying?
00:40:14It scares me because I would place that judgment on somebody.
00:40:19So when people say it,
00:40:20I don't get mad at them.
00:40:23I'm more mad at myself
00:40:24because I feel like I am the reflection of what they're saying.
00:40:27To have that type of success that music brings,
00:40:31people really look at you and look to you
00:40:34for inspiration, for hope, for light,
00:40:37for all of these things.
00:40:38And that pressure can sometimes be so tremendous.
00:40:41You are a rock star.
00:40:42You live in a world where
00:40:43they want every piece of you
00:40:45because they need to sell a story.
00:40:47He said that he feels really bad about what transpired,
00:40:49that he's going to meet with his pastor
00:40:51and hope to become a better person.
00:40:53There were reports he's gone to anger management classes.
00:40:55Besides that incident, you know,
00:40:57it's like a domino effect.
00:40:59It brings other things to happen.
00:41:01It brings up rage and anger.
00:41:02And we don't understand why we're angry.
00:41:04Because we're angry because we think people
00:41:06think about us in a certain way.
00:41:08I'm going to tell you something.
00:41:09Let me be honest.
00:41:10I was disappointed.
00:41:11I almost felt let down because I said,
00:41:13this kid could be the great superstar.
00:41:16You say, how could I be the best in the world
00:41:17and people still talk about me?
00:41:19And that's just what life is about.
00:41:21Overcoming emotional quagmire, adversity,
00:41:24becoming stronger in life, you know,
00:41:26if you didn't experience any kind of emotional conflict
00:41:30with yourself or with anyone else,
00:41:32you know, under the lightest struggle,
00:41:35you know, you just crumble.
00:41:38Sentenced to five years of probation,
00:41:41as you said, 180 days of what Judge Schnegg
00:41:44calls community labor.
00:41:45And he has to undergo a domestic violence program
00:41:49for one year.
00:41:51Well, the first time I walked in the courtroom,
00:41:52I was super nervous, you know.
00:41:55I never even did jury duty.
00:41:57Like, so I was like, man, I don't know
00:41:59what's going to happen here.
00:42:00I'm not used to this environment.
00:42:02This is a guy who's gotten kind of everything
00:42:03he wanted since he was 16 years old.
00:42:07But once you step into a courtroom,
00:42:09you lose all control.
00:42:11They wanted me to do jail time.
00:42:13You know, there was a lot of women's rights groups
00:42:15that were calling in and demanding
00:42:17that I had jail time.
00:42:19You know, I was terrified, man.
00:42:21I was only 17, I think.
00:42:23About to turn 18.
00:42:25And I was like, man, like,
00:42:27I'm about to go to jail.
00:42:28Is this how my life turned out?
00:42:29I got out of my situation in Virginia
00:42:31and made some of my life
00:42:33and I'm going right back.
00:42:35Like, that's how I felt.
00:42:36This is where the process begins.
00:42:38And there has been speculation already by some
00:42:40that this really will end Chris Brown's career.
00:42:43His drive, his enthusiasm,
00:42:45his excitement about everything was gone.
00:42:48It's hard to go from that admiration
00:42:51from the world
00:42:53to all of a sudden that judgment
00:42:55from the world
00:42:56and being able to balance that
00:42:57and understand how to maneuver through that.
00:43:00That shit is not easy.
00:43:01Being on probation is like the hardest thing ever.
00:43:04I know that was a tough time.
00:43:05Any little thing could be a violation.
00:43:08I did go into a deep depression,
00:43:10like I stayed in my house for like three months.
00:43:13Stayed in my room,
00:43:13didn't come out there,
00:43:14bring my food to the door.
00:43:15My homies would be like,
00:43:16come on, man, what's up?
00:43:18And I just sleep in bed,
00:43:19stay in bed all day.
00:43:20Some of the greatest artists in the world
00:43:21have fell, you know, from that.
00:43:23You know, it may fall to substance
00:43:25or things that just really cloud that judgment,
00:43:28cloud the ability to kind of see their way through it.
00:43:30I wasn't sleeping.
00:43:31I barely ate.
00:43:32I just was getting hot.
00:43:34You know, I would pop a couple Xanax's,
00:43:36drink some lean,
00:43:37and just be like,
00:43:38I'm good and be a zombie for the rest of the day.
00:43:40You know, I remember being on video sets
00:43:41and falling asleep,
00:43:42cussing people out,
00:43:43not knowing why I'm mad.
00:43:44Like, and then I wake up the next day like,
00:43:46yeah, we got to shoot the video.
00:43:47They'd be like,
00:43:47dude, we shot it yesterday.
00:43:49I'm like, dang.
00:43:49So that's when I knew it went bad.
00:43:51And I said, hey, man,
00:43:52you know, I'm not telling you nothing
00:43:53that ain't nobody told me.
00:43:53I'm not telling you nothing
00:43:54that Quincy Jones didn't tell me
00:43:55or Oprah Winfrey didn't tell me.
00:43:57I'm just telling you in a fly way,
00:43:58like, you know,
00:43:59do your thing, have fun,
00:44:00but just always remember that
00:44:02if the people that are around you
00:44:03don't have a risk like you do,
00:44:05it's probably not,
00:44:06it's probably,
00:44:07it's probably not cool.
00:44:09The more light we get,
00:44:11the more we have to shot,
00:44:12we have to hide our demons.
00:44:14You know,
00:44:14that's pretty much a deterrent
00:44:16to see who we truly are.
00:44:19The light.
00:44:20The light is the demon.
00:44:22It's blinding you from seeing him.
00:44:24The elephant in the room
00:44:25is the fact that there's been
00:44:26some very tumultuous things
00:44:28that Chris has experienced
00:44:29in his career, right?
00:44:30I'll talk about it.
00:44:31Everybody has shit that they go through,
00:44:33but not everybody has to deal with it
00:44:35in front of the world.
00:44:39He's 19, she's 20.
00:44:42They're like,
00:44:43he's almost a kid.
00:44:43One day I just started thinking about it.
00:44:56Well,
00:44:57if they all hate me,
00:44:59I want them to hate me
00:45:00because they can't beat me.
00:45:09That next week I went in the studio
00:45:10and I said,
00:45:12I don't care even if I
00:45:13don't know how to write
00:45:14if they don't like my songs,
00:45:16I'm just going to say
00:45:16whatever I feel.
00:45:17Let me just talk about
00:45:18what I'm rocking with.
00:45:19Then you got songs like
00:45:21Deuces that'll come out.
00:45:28No bullshit.
00:45:29And even throughout that process,
00:45:36I tried to get Rihanna back.
00:45:37I would try to call
00:45:39and try to like,
00:45:40hey, what's up, man?
00:45:41Just like,
00:45:42you know,
00:45:42one time she's like,
00:45:42I got a boyfriend,
00:45:43stop talking to me.
00:45:44I was like,
00:45:45whoa.
00:45:46So I said,
00:45:47you know what?
00:45:48Cool.
00:45:48Let me just be me then.
00:45:50So I'm putting all my records out.
00:45:51The pain records,
00:45:53the ones that,
00:45:54when I'm at my lowest point,
00:45:55and it's like
00:45:57back against the wall,
00:45:58nobody thinks I'm
00:45:59going to come out
00:45:59of the underdog status.
00:46:02You know,
00:46:03I got a Grammy
00:46:03off of those records.
00:46:06I don't know, man.
00:46:07I'm nervous.
00:46:07I don't know what to say.
00:46:09Team Breezy, man.
00:46:10It's all for you, man.
00:46:11All my fans back home.
00:46:12I love y'all.
00:46:13So we got one.
00:46:17Well, at that time,
00:46:18I was able to meet somebody else.
00:46:20Her name is Carucci.
00:46:21I met her, you know,
00:46:22and she kind of got me
00:46:23through the times.
00:46:24I was like,
00:46:25you know what?
00:46:25Cool.
00:46:26Like, I'm really cool
00:46:27with not turning up as much.
00:46:30You know, I still,
00:46:31I mean, I still did.
00:46:32You know,
00:46:32I would only do that
00:46:33only because
00:46:34I didn't know how to cope
00:46:35with dealing with
00:46:36being in love with her
00:46:37and Rihanna
00:46:38at the same time.
00:46:39What would the Chris Brown
00:46:40sitting next to me right now
00:46:42tell the Chris Brown
00:46:43one year ago?
00:46:48Um,
00:46:49make some wise decisions, brother.
00:46:56Like, I would definitely
00:46:56look at myself
00:46:57a year ago
00:46:58and be like,
00:46:59man,
00:47:00like, really, really,
00:47:01like,
00:47:02don't take this for granted.
00:47:03Don't take anything for granted
00:47:05and don't think you're untouchable
00:47:06or you're invincible
00:47:07because you're not.
00:47:08He has to make that decision
00:47:11and choose who he is.
00:47:13We have to look in the mirror
00:47:14sometimes of life
00:47:15and decide
00:47:16do we like who we're looking at?
00:47:19You know,
00:47:19and I sometimes don't like
00:47:20who I'm still looking at,
00:47:22but I like him more
00:47:23than I used to like him.
00:47:24At that time,
00:47:26I just was trying to
00:47:27mask my real feelings.
00:47:29My life was just slowly
00:47:30going downhill
00:47:31because of my fear.
00:47:34You know what I'm saying?
00:47:34And my insecurities
00:47:35and me not being,
00:47:37me not really manning up.
00:47:38So it's 2010.
00:47:40We've decided
00:47:41that we're going to have
00:47:42Chris Brown
00:47:44do
00:47:45the year after
00:47:47the year anniversary
00:47:48Jackson tribute.
00:47:50But there's one tribute,
00:47:52one tribute
00:47:53performance
00:47:54we've yet to see.
00:47:56And the crowd knew
00:47:57exactly who it was.
00:47:59And there was this murmur
00:48:00that built
00:48:01and the lights drop out
00:48:03and
00:48:04Chris hit the stage.
00:48:08It was so surreal, man.
00:48:25I was hosting BET.
00:48:27That for everyone
00:48:28was just a moment in time
00:48:29where he says,
00:48:30Chris was going through a thing.
00:48:32And so therefore,
00:48:33it really hurt him.
00:48:38It was a lot of things happening.
00:48:52First of all,
00:48:53we were giving Michael Jackson
00:48:54a real great send-off
00:48:55for passing of the torch,
00:48:56if you will.
00:48:58And then he poured
00:48:59his heart into it, man.
00:49:00We'll see you next time.
00:49:01We'll see you next time.
00:49:31Chris Brown
00:49:32Chris Brown was there
00:49:32to prove something
00:49:34that night,
00:49:35that he belonged
00:49:36on this planet,
00:49:37that he belonged
00:49:37on stages.
00:49:40No matter what you think
00:49:41about Chris Brown,
00:49:42when he starts to dance
00:49:43and sing,
00:49:44he has that light.
00:49:45He has that fire,
00:49:46that lightning rod
00:49:48in this career.
00:49:49So I think that sobered
00:49:50a lot of people up.
00:49:51Like, you know,
00:49:52you can only do so much.
00:49:54You can only give so much.
00:49:56Sometimes you gotta
00:49:57step back a little bit
00:49:58and just decompress.
00:50:00Everybody's human
00:50:01and everybody makes mistakes.
00:50:03And if God can give us mercy,
00:50:04why can't we have mercy
00:50:05on each other?
00:50:06You may have heard
00:50:09about Chris Brown's
00:50:10appearance here
00:50:11on GMA on Tuesday.
00:50:12He and I had
00:50:13a brief interview
00:50:14and then he performed
00:50:15a single from his
00:50:16hit new album.
00:50:17And it's what happened
00:50:18after that performance
00:50:19that unfortunately
00:50:20made headlines.
00:50:21Chris Brown did become
00:50:22very angry backstage
00:50:23here in our studios.
00:50:25Talking about his past
00:50:26clearly touched a nerve
00:50:27and his behavior
00:50:28now has everyone talking.
00:50:31Good morning,
00:50:32America incident.
00:50:33Man.
00:50:34Chris Brown riding high.
00:50:36Brand new CD out.
00:50:37Fame.
00:50:38It's out today.
00:50:39Already has three
00:50:39number one hits,
00:50:40a fourth one
00:50:41climb in the charts
00:50:42and the album is
00:50:43number one on iTunes today.
00:50:44It's a far cry
00:50:45from the last time
00:50:46the two of us sat down
00:50:47just months after
00:50:48he pled guilty
00:50:48to felony assault.
00:50:49He took responsibility
00:50:50for hitting his
00:50:51then-girlfriend Rihanna
00:50:52and has spent
00:50:53the last two years
00:50:54with building his life.
00:50:55Chris Brown.
00:50:56How are you?
00:50:57I'm pretty good.
00:50:57Yeah, everything's good.
00:50:58That morning,
00:50:59I remember my album
00:51:00that just came out
00:51:01that day.
00:51:02Supposed to be
00:51:03a big promotion
00:51:03because, you know,
00:51:04all their songs
00:51:05were doing great deuces.
00:51:07Look at Me Now,
00:51:08all these big records.
00:51:09Yeah, three times.
00:51:10There were so many records
00:51:11that were kind of
00:51:13just elevating
00:51:14and transcending life
00:51:16instead of the negative
00:51:18that was in my life.
00:51:19So that morning,
00:51:20I remember,
00:51:21and I would always do this,
00:51:22I would prep
00:51:23before any interview.
00:51:23I would say,
00:51:24hey, look,
00:51:25these are the terms
00:51:26and conditions
00:51:26of the interview.
00:51:27You cannot ask this question.
00:51:29You cannot ask this question.
00:51:30And we need you to sign off
00:51:31just so we can take
00:51:33legal action if you do.
00:51:34And thank you
00:51:35for sitting down
00:51:35for just a moment before.
00:51:37It's all about the music.
00:51:38Your fans are here,
00:51:39but you have been very
00:51:40good about talking
00:51:42with me a little bit
00:51:43about this
00:51:43because we've gone through it
00:51:46and talked about it
00:51:47when I went to your home.
00:51:48What's going on now
00:51:50is that recently
00:51:50the restraining order
00:51:51against you
00:51:52that Rihanna had issued
00:51:54has been relaxed.
00:51:55I always danced
00:51:56around the topic.
00:51:58I always would dance around it
00:51:59and I didn't know
00:52:00how to deal with it myself.
00:52:01There still was a big
00:52:01insecurity within myself.
00:52:03Have you all seen each other,
00:52:04been around each other?
00:52:04I mean,
00:52:05not really.
00:52:06It's not really a big deal
00:52:08to me now
00:52:08as far as that situation.
00:52:09I think I'm past that
00:52:10in my life
00:52:10and I think today
00:52:11is the album day
00:52:12so that's what I'm focused on.
00:52:13So everybody
00:52:14go get that album.
00:52:14That was so intense to me
00:52:17and I felt like
00:52:18it was a slap in the face
00:52:19like you want me to be
00:52:21this person on TV.
00:52:24You want me to be that person.
00:52:26You still want me
00:52:26to be the monster.
00:52:28Fame.
00:52:29F-A-M-E.
00:52:30Yeah.
00:52:31What does that stand for?
00:52:32Fame.
00:52:32Forgiving all my enemies
00:52:33and definitely
00:52:34fans are my everything
00:52:36and that meaning
00:52:36being able to go through
00:52:38everything I went through
00:52:39and show my fans
00:52:40that I love them.
00:52:41That's what it is
00:52:42and fans are my everything.
00:52:43You can see me getting agitated.
00:52:45You can see,
00:52:45you can see me
00:52:46and they're kind of
00:52:47getting frustrated.
00:52:48When you say
00:52:48forgive all your enemies,
00:52:49who do you consider your enemies?
00:52:50Just anybody,
00:52:51naysayers, haters,
00:52:52whatever the case may be.
00:52:53I just think, you know,
00:52:54being positive
00:52:54and promoting that
00:52:55is what I'm about
00:52:56and that's what I'm gonna do.
00:52:57I start clenching my jaws
00:52:58and trying to play it off.
00:53:01Yeah, but you can understand
00:53:02how some people, you know,
00:53:04that was very serious
00:53:05what you went through.
00:53:06It just was killing me
00:53:08because she was depicting
00:53:10the monster
00:53:10that I thought I was.
00:53:11Have you been able to?
00:53:13How have you been able to?
00:53:15I've been focusing on this album,
00:53:16you know,
00:53:17I think this album is what,
00:53:18you know,
00:53:19I want people to hear
00:53:19and I want people
00:53:20to really get into.
00:53:21So definitely this album
00:53:22is what I want them
00:53:23to talk about
00:53:24and not the stuff
00:53:24that happened two years ago.
00:53:26I understand that.
00:53:27I understand that.
00:53:28So I lash out
00:53:29and it's like,
00:53:30it's like an unconscious,
00:53:32like impulsive,
00:53:33like demon.
00:53:35I just walked off stage
00:53:36and when I walked off stage
00:53:37in the back room,
00:53:38I broke down.
00:53:39I took my shirt off,
00:53:40like I was crying
00:53:42in the middle of the floor,
00:53:43like I was mad,
00:53:44punching the wall,
00:53:45like so,
00:53:46like enraged.
00:53:47I remember one of the security guards
00:53:48that worked there ran up,
00:53:49I said,
00:53:49bro,
00:53:50if you come in here,
00:53:51it's going to go bad for you.
00:53:53Shattered window,
00:53:54which Chris allegedly destroyed
00:53:55after he stormed off
00:53:56the GMA stage.
00:53:57And they think I threw a chair
00:53:59through the window.
00:54:01I punched the window.
00:54:03Through my anger,
00:54:03like I didn't know
00:54:04how hard I hit the window
00:54:06and it actually shattered.
00:54:08And I was like,
00:54:09fuck.
00:54:09I just remember
00:54:10just leaving the building.
00:54:11I said,
00:54:11I got to leave the building
00:54:12before I do something else.
00:54:13I just remember running outside.
00:54:15We hop in the van,
00:54:15you got pictures of me
00:54:16with my shirt off
00:54:17in the middle of the street.
00:54:18And you're like,
00:54:19I was crazy, man.
00:54:20That's like psycho behavior.
00:54:23I think Chris has gone
00:54:24to the bottom
00:54:25at some point in his career.
00:54:27Or at least he's fucked that way.
00:54:28But when you're Chris Brown
00:54:29and you got big,
00:54:31you know it's the biggest
00:54:32camera on you
00:54:32at all times.
00:54:36Fuck $10.
00:54:37Give me my key.
00:54:38Let's go, let's go, let's go.
00:54:39We're going to turn
00:54:39this whole spot up.
00:54:41Got it right here,
00:54:41got it right here,
00:54:42got it right here.
00:54:43Fighting with singer
00:54:44Frank Ocean
00:54:44reportedly over a parking spot.
00:54:47According to reports,
00:54:48both Chris and Drake
00:54:49were hanging out
00:54:49in the VIP section
00:54:50one minute,
00:54:51the next fifth
00:54:52and bottles were flying,
00:54:54leaving the club
00:54:54completely trashed.
00:54:56Several people hurt.
00:54:57I definitely think
00:54:58it's extremely important
00:54:59to walk away
00:55:00from a situation
00:55:02before anger
00:55:03gets the best of you
00:55:03because everything
00:55:06after that
00:55:07is a consequence.
00:55:09You have to focus
00:55:10on the choices you make.
00:55:13And me,
00:55:13I was a fuck it
00:55:14kind of dude.
00:55:15So it was like,
00:55:16I didn't give a fuck.
00:55:17So I'm like,
00:55:17fuck it, I don't care.
00:55:19Fuck it.
00:55:20That mentality
00:55:21don't only last for so long.
00:55:22Then you go to jail.
00:55:24Chris Brown,
00:55:24he's in a Washington,
00:55:25D.C. jail this morning,
00:55:26charged with assaulting
00:55:27a man early Sunday morning
00:55:29outside this hotel.
00:55:30Paula,
00:55:30this is a serious charge
00:55:31and Brown already
00:55:33on probation
00:55:33on a domestic violence charge.
00:55:35Carugher broke up with me
00:55:36and I was like,
00:55:37I didn't know how to deal
00:55:38with it at that time.
00:55:40And I just was angry.
00:55:42So then when I got to D.C.,
00:55:43that's when I caught that case.
00:55:45I broke one of the guy's nose.
00:55:47Chris Brown in jail
00:55:48this morning
00:55:49and could face
00:55:50the reality of prison time
00:55:51after this latest incident,
00:55:53his third run-in of the year.
00:55:55The victim says
00:55:56in the police incident report,
00:55:57he attempted to get
00:55:58into a photo with Brown
00:55:59and the rapper said,
00:56:01quote,
00:56:01I'm not down
00:56:02with that gay expletive.
00:56:03I feel like boxing.
00:56:05Brown then punched
00:56:06Parker in the face.
00:56:07That caused me
00:56:07to check myself into rehab.
00:56:09You know,
00:56:09I checked myself into rehab
00:56:10for anger management.
00:56:12Hopefully rehab
00:56:12will be a new start
00:56:14for the singer.
00:56:15He seemed to be hinting
00:56:16at that in this recent tweet.
00:56:18In order to go
00:56:19where you have never gone,
00:56:20you have to be willing
00:56:21to go where you have never been.
00:56:23Try to figure out
00:56:24what makes me tick,
00:56:25what makes me this aggressive.
00:56:28Why do I have to be
00:56:29this impulsive?
00:56:29Why am I this person?
00:56:31I think that this being
00:56:32his third violation,
00:56:34the judge is probably
00:56:35going to throw the book at him.
00:56:45Everybody has
00:56:48some tumultuous thing
00:56:50that happens in their career.
00:56:52The way you rebound
00:56:53from that
00:56:54is what makes you
00:56:55who you are.
00:56:57If you didn't have
00:56:58something to go through,
00:56:59it wouldn't be worth it
00:57:01when you got to it.
00:57:02Chris Brown
00:57:03has checked into rehab.
00:57:05The singer's rep
00:57:06announced Tuesday night
00:57:07he's chosen
00:57:08to enter a facility.
00:57:09His goal is to gain focus
00:57:11and insight
00:57:12into his past
00:57:13and recent behavior,
00:57:14enabling him to continue
00:57:16the pursuit of his life
00:57:17and his career
00:57:18from a healthier vantage point.
00:57:21During that time,
00:57:22I had to do community service
00:57:24and go to rehab.
00:57:27Rehab helped me
00:57:28to a degree.
00:57:29Not to discredit anybody here,
00:57:30but you know,
00:57:31I think because
00:57:32of my lifestyle
00:57:33and who I was,
00:57:35I was envied a lot
00:57:36by even some of the staff
00:57:37and some of the people
00:57:38that worked there.
00:57:38Chris was thrown out today
00:57:39for breaking internal rules.
00:57:41Sources are telling us
00:57:42that Chris had
00:57:43an inappropriate,
00:57:44is how we're being told,
00:57:46a relationship
00:57:46with a worker there.
00:57:48So I get a call up
00:57:48to the office.
00:57:50They say,
00:57:50oh, somebody wants
00:57:51to speak to you.
00:57:51So I walk up to the office
00:57:52like, okay, cool.
00:57:54Seven cops just come out
00:57:55drawing guns,
00:57:56drawing,
00:57:56get down,
00:57:56get on my burner.
00:57:58I'm like,
00:57:58what the fuck did I do?
00:58:00So the woman,
00:58:02I guess,
00:58:04she lied
00:58:05and said that I talked about,
00:58:06I talked about
00:58:07threatening with knives
00:58:08and guns
00:58:09and I like to hurt people
00:58:10for fun
00:58:11or whatever it is.
00:58:12Like,
00:58:13if you look at any
00:58:14of the reports
00:58:15and the whole time
00:58:15I've been there,
00:58:16there's never been
00:58:17no incident of me
00:58:19saying anything like that.
00:58:20I said,
00:58:20why would I even
00:58:21randomly joke about that?
00:58:23You know what I'm saying?
00:58:23So I could see
00:58:25that it was,
00:58:25somebody set me up.
00:58:26So automatically,
00:58:28they called my PO
00:58:29and said,
00:58:29we kicked him out of rehab.
00:58:31And then,
00:58:32the judge said,
00:58:32well go pick him up.
00:58:34County jail,
00:58:34here I come.
00:58:35I don't think
00:58:36that there's
00:58:36any doubt
00:58:38that Chris Brown
00:58:39is not guilty
00:58:40and we want him
00:58:41to be found not guilty.
00:58:42He's been there
00:58:43for 90 days.
00:58:44He was making
00:58:45tremendous progress.
00:58:46You know,
00:58:47do you have a bad day?
00:58:48I have bad days sometimes.
00:58:49Do you say things
00:58:50you'd like to take back?
00:58:51I certainly do.
00:58:51So I don't know
00:58:53that being in
00:58:54a therapeutic session
00:58:55and you're talking
00:58:56about your reflections
00:58:57and you say one sentence
00:59:00means you go to jail?
00:59:01Seems to me
00:59:02to be counterproductive
00:59:03to therapy.
00:59:10Jail was like
00:59:11an eye-opener, man.
00:59:12Like, you know,
00:59:13once you get in there
00:59:14with real killers,
00:59:15once you get in there
00:59:15with real murderers
00:59:17and real, you know,
00:59:18rapists,
00:59:19child molesters
00:59:19and, you know,
00:59:20all the worst,
00:59:21you know,
00:59:22you get a chance
00:59:22to understand
00:59:24what it is
00:59:25and how blessed you are.
00:59:27It feels like
00:59:27you're hopeless.
00:59:28Although when he was
00:59:29in jail,
00:59:30I was there
00:59:30every other day.
00:59:31The judge gave me
00:59:33permission to go in
00:59:34with his attorneys
00:59:34and that was
00:59:36uplifting for me
00:59:38because every day
00:59:38I'm calling the attorney.
00:59:39Could you please
00:59:40go with me today?
00:59:40Could you please
00:59:41go with me?
00:59:41I just want to see him
00:59:42because I said
00:59:43just to get him
00:59:44out of the cell.
00:59:45You would get out
00:59:45on like the end
00:59:46of the week
00:59:47for an hour.
00:59:48You'd go to the roof
00:59:49and they would put you
00:59:49in a cage.
00:59:50Like, you wouldn't be
00:59:51like, oh,
00:59:52with the regular people
00:59:52in the playing ball,
00:59:53you would be in a cage
00:59:54with a dip bar
00:59:54and a phone.
00:59:55You had to stand up,
00:59:56you couldn't sit down.
00:59:57It was pissed, shit.
00:59:58Like, people were shit
00:59:59right on the floor.
01:00:00It wasn't sanitary.
01:00:02You know,
01:00:02it was jail.
01:00:03You know,
01:00:04at the end of the day,
01:00:04but you had to adapt
01:00:05and kind of learn
01:00:07how to mentally
01:00:07be content
01:00:09with being
01:00:10stationary in one spot.
01:00:12That was horrible.
01:00:12But seeing him chained
01:00:14to the table
01:00:15wasn't one of the most
01:00:16devastating things.
01:00:18To chain his arms
01:00:19up to the table
01:00:20and, you know,
01:00:20I just like,
01:00:22it broke my heart
01:00:22but I couldn't cry.
01:00:24I was like,
01:00:24I can't,
01:00:24he can't see me crying
01:00:26because I see him.
01:00:27He come in there
01:00:27like,
01:00:27I'm so happy to see you.
01:00:29Glad to get out
01:00:29of the cell.
01:00:30Even with them
01:00:31extraditing me,
01:00:31I had to go to court
01:00:32in D.C.
01:00:33and getting on Con Air.
01:00:34They shackle you
01:00:36from your hands
01:00:37to your feet
01:00:37around your waist
01:00:38and you walk
01:00:39and you walk
01:00:40right in the line
01:00:41and they were marshals
01:00:42with real pistols
01:00:43and tasers.
01:00:43The idea that
01:00:44somebody would be
01:00:45bussed by the feds
01:00:47cross country
01:00:48for a misdemeanor case
01:00:50was probably
01:00:51unparalleled.
01:00:52I mean,
01:00:53it wouldn't be done
01:00:53absent being Chris Brown.
01:00:55For me,
01:00:56certain jails
01:00:56that I went in
01:00:57didn't have
01:00:57isolation for
01:00:59high class
01:01:01or whatever it is
01:01:02so you were going
01:01:02to solitary,
01:01:03you were going to hope.
01:01:04So I would be
01:01:05in a hole
01:01:05most of the time.
01:01:06So people don't
01:01:07understand
01:01:07what the hole is.
01:01:09You're in a room
01:01:10with a metal door
01:01:12with no windows.
01:01:13Like a metal door
01:01:14and you're in a room.
01:01:15You can touch
01:01:16both sides of the wall
01:01:17and the bed's metal.
01:01:18You get a cot
01:01:19but it's nothing.
01:01:21It's like
01:01:21thinner than your sock.
01:01:23They'll bring you
01:01:23your food,
01:01:24slide it to the door
01:01:26and that's it.
01:01:26So I would draw
01:01:27mirrors on the wall
01:01:28of just anything
01:01:29that I was being
01:01:30created,
01:01:31just keeping my mind
01:01:32going.
01:01:32I got a chance
01:01:33to really read
01:01:33the Bible
01:01:34at that time.
01:01:34I never read
01:01:35the Bible in my life.
01:01:36I was amazed
01:01:37at the way
01:01:40he dealt
01:01:41with the custody
01:01:42time,
01:01:43going to jail.
01:01:43For me,
01:01:44that was a real
01:01:46big learning
01:01:46experience for me.
01:01:47What I respect
01:01:48about him,
01:01:48that he weathered
01:01:49the storm.
01:01:51I'm calling
01:01:52all my fans.
01:01:53Let y'all know
01:01:53I love y'all.
01:01:54Thank y'all
01:01:54for all the support.
01:01:56Thank you for everything.
01:01:57You know,
01:01:57the new video
01:01:58just came out
01:01:58so I hope y'all
01:01:59enjoy that.
01:02:01And most importantly,
01:02:02K,
01:02:03I love you.
01:02:04I think that
01:02:05that experience,
01:02:06again,
01:02:06it goes to that
01:02:07old adage,
01:02:08if it doesn't kill
01:02:08you,
01:02:08it makes you stronger.
01:02:10Like throughout
01:02:10that time,
01:02:11it just was an eye
01:02:13opener.
01:02:13And I just looked
01:02:14at myself like,
01:02:14this ain't my life.
01:02:15This is not
01:02:15what I do.
01:02:17I think pain
01:02:18is our strength.
01:02:19Struggle is our victory.
01:02:22Even me being
01:02:23as a young black man
01:02:24or anybody
01:02:25that's oppressed
01:02:26or been looked
01:02:28less of
01:02:28or kind of like,
01:02:30you know,
01:02:31thrown out to the wolves,
01:02:32like I just think
01:02:32our pain
01:02:34makes us fearless.
01:02:36You know?
01:02:37Because it's not a,
01:02:39we don't have a choice.
01:02:41Well,
01:02:41when they say
01:02:41you're at the bottom,
01:02:42right,
01:02:43there's nowhere
01:02:43to go but up
01:02:44always.
01:02:45I thought it was over.
01:02:48The controversial singer
01:02:49was released early Monday
01:02:50in Los Angeles
01:02:51according to authorities.
01:02:52As a refresher,
01:02:53he'd been in lockup
01:02:54since March
01:02:55when he was arrested
01:02:55for violating the rules
01:02:57of a court-ordered
01:02:58rehab center.
01:02:59I was released
01:02:59from jail,
01:03:00I think July 6th.
01:03:03And it was a Sunday,
01:03:05I just remember,
01:03:06I was like,
01:03:06whoa,
01:03:07they came and got me.
01:03:07I kissed the ground
01:03:08when I got out
01:03:09and everything,
01:03:09went to Burger King.
01:03:11I was like,
01:03:12eating every burger
01:03:13you can name.
01:03:14And then I went,
01:03:15I went to my girlfriend
01:03:16at the time's house,
01:03:18K,
01:03:18because my house
01:03:19was down the street,
01:03:19I just didn't want
01:03:20to go to it.
01:03:21So I stayed,
01:03:21I stayed at Caroochie's house.
01:03:23When Chris Brown
01:03:23was locked up,
01:03:24them fans was fighting.
01:03:26And when he came home,
01:03:27he came home
01:03:27with a celebration.
01:03:29And that's what it's about.
01:03:30When you in jail,
01:03:31you have a number one record.
01:03:32And the people got love,
01:03:34they love Chris Brown.
01:03:35He did his jail time,
01:03:55came home like nothing.
01:03:57Went straight to the studio
01:03:59and you come home
01:04:00and put massive hit records.
01:04:02You got to be strong
01:04:02to do that.
01:04:15You know,
01:04:15Chris is a one in a million
01:04:17type artist.
01:04:18You know what I mean?
01:04:18You don't meet a lot of people
01:04:19with that type of blessing
01:04:21and that type of gift.
01:04:22He's like really,
01:04:24he's figured out
01:04:25how to like really explain
01:04:27what he's going through in life.
01:04:28And not just like write
01:04:29a catchy song,
01:04:30but make something
01:04:31that really is
01:04:32what he's going through.
01:04:34Chris Brown is climbing the charts
01:04:36with his newest album.
01:04:37X was delayed
01:04:38through court dates and rehab
01:04:40following Brown's arrest
01:04:41for beating
01:04:42ex-girlfriend Rihanna.
01:04:43He spent three months in jail
01:04:45and says he learned
01:04:46from the experience.
01:04:47For me and my spirit,
01:04:48I just want to just be able
01:04:49to kind of like,
01:04:50you know,
01:04:51have some peace.
01:04:52You know,
01:04:52be able to chill
01:04:54and, you know,
01:04:54do what I love
01:04:55because I was blessed
01:04:56with this opportunity
01:04:57and this talent.
01:04:58So I don't want to waste it.
01:04:59Once I really changed my life
01:05:01and mentally started
01:05:02making cognitive decisions
01:05:04that would better my living
01:05:07and better my standards,
01:05:09you know,
01:05:09a lot of things
01:05:10started opening up for me.
01:05:11You know what I mean?
01:05:12Even with just me being
01:05:13just happy,
01:05:15you know,
01:05:15me being internally happy.
01:05:17And, you know,
01:05:18everything was good,
01:05:19you know,
01:05:19and I didn't even know
01:05:20about my daughter.
01:05:22During me and Karoochie's breakup,
01:05:31like August and September
01:05:33is when my child was conceived.
01:05:35As the time goes on,
01:05:36I'm on this tour,
01:05:37you know,
01:05:38this big tour we're doing.
01:05:39I get a phone call,
01:05:40girl crying,
01:05:41and I'm like,
01:05:42what's up?
01:05:44And I'm like,
01:05:45what's wrong with you?
01:05:45She's like,
01:05:46yo,
01:05:46he's not the father,
01:05:47you're the father of the baby.
01:05:49At this time,
01:05:50I'm in a relationship.
01:05:51I'm trying to have,
01:05:52like, you know,
01:05:52I'm trying to get my girl
01:05:53pregnant at the time.
01:05:54I'm trying to, you know,
01:05:54do the right thing
01:05:56as a boyfriend
01:05:57and not cheat,
01:05:57not mess with no girls,
01:05:58none of that stuff.
01:06:00So,
01:06:01I'm like,
01:06:02whoa.
01:06:02She came,
01:06:06I looked at the baby,
01:06:07as soon as I saw her,
01:06:08I was like,
01:06:10she looks just like me,
01:06:11like she does my kid.
01:06:12Say,
01:06:13what's up?
01:06:15Ooh.
01:06:17So,
01:06:18once I found out,
01:06:19I guess somebody leaked,
01:06:21like,
01:06:22the story of TMZ
01:06:23or whoever they leaked it to
01:06:24and said,
01:06:25hey,
01:06:25boom,
01:06:26Chris got a secret baby.
01:06:28My lawyers called me
01:06:2930 minutes before the story,
01:06:31the story dropped,
01:06:32like,
01:06:32yo,
01:06:32they about to run the story,
01:06:33they already called the story,
01:06:34they gonna run it,
01:06:34you got anything you want to say?
01:06:36I'm like,
01:06:37what?
01:06:37No,
01:06:38I ain't even around my girlfriend,
01:06:39like,
01:06:39I'm trying to,
01:06:40I need her here
01:06:41so I can sit her down
01:06:42and have a real face-to-face
01:06:43conversation
01:06:44and really be honest with her
01:06:46and let her know.
01:06:4730 minutes,
01:06:48boom,
01:06:48it's on everything.
01:06:49So,
01:06:49reports have been swirling
01:06:51that Chris Brown is secretly
01:06:52the father of a nine-month
01:06:54baby girl.
01:06:55I'm calling her,
01:06:56I'm like,
01:06:57look,
01:06:57listen,
01:06:58she looking at it
01:06:58as I'm calling her,
01:06:59she's screaming at me,
01:07:00what the hell is this shit?
01:07:02Bro,
01:07:02you ain't shit,
01:07:03I'm tired,
01:07:03it's over with,
01:07:04boom, boom, boom.
01:07:05Done.
01:07:06Karoochie Tran
01:07:07has confirmed
01:07:07this whole thing on Twitter
01:07:08and dumped Chris Brown
01:07:09in one swoop.
01:07:11One can only take so much,
01:07:13the best of luck
01:07:13to Chris and his family,
01:07:14no baby mama drama for me.
01:07:16into that relationship,
01:07:17you know what I'm saying?
01:07:19And,
01:07:20like,
01:07:21I love my daughter unconditionally.
01:07:23Like,
01:07:23it's like,
01:07:24nobody come before her,
01:07:26you know what I'm saying?
01:07:27God made her,
01:07:28you know,
01:07:29for me,
01:07:30I think.
01:07:31What'd you see?
01:07:33It's a towel.
01:07:33It's a towel.
01:07:34It's a towel.
01:07:34It'll be a nice try.
01:07:36Don't eat the towel.
01:07:37Nobody come in between.
01:07:39Me and I love her with all my heart.
01:07:41I wouldn't trade her for nothing.
01:07:43Chris is just a really caring guy.
01:07:45He's always been that person
01:07:46and he looks after everyone.
01:07:48And before he had a baby,
01:07:50and before royalty was royalty,
01:07:52it's about time people see
01:07:54that Chris is who Chris is,
01:07:56which is a loving,
01:07:57caring,
01:07:58gorgeous person.
01:08:00Being a father now has kind of,
01:08:01it made me grow up.
01:08:03It made me grow up way more now.
01:08:05Life is,
01:08:07it's a special thing, man,
01:08:08because,
01:08:09you know,
01:08:11it's going,
01:08:11it's going hurricane.
01:08:13You know,
01:08:13somebody else would have gave up.
01:08:15You know,
01:08:15he didn't allow that.
01:08:17But my daughter,
01:08:18she shaped me to be like a real man.
01:08:22That's what it's all about,
01:08:23because we're going to be entertainers,
01:08:24fighters,
01:08:25for a short duration of time.
01:08:27And after that's over,
01:08:28we're still human beings.
01:08:29We have to improve on being better human beings
01:08:31in order to succeed in life.
01:08:34You know,
01:08:34this is the hardest game we're,
01:08:35you know,
01:08:36and the hardest goal
01:08:37that we're trying to accomplish.
01:08:38It's life.
01:08:39Whatever that is he wants,
01:08:40that's up to him.
01:08:42It's a life lesson
01:08:43for all of us.
01:08:47Because it's affected all of us.
01:08:49If you truly do love Chris Brown,
01:08:52then you've felt everything
01:08:53that has gone on with him.
01:08:56The end of the day,
01:08:57it is what it is.
01:08:59It was a,
01:09:00you know,
01:09:00an 18-year-old guy
01:09:01who made a horrible decision
01:09:03and was struggling
01:09:05to learn from it.
01:09:06But, you know,
01:09:08at the end of the day,
01:09:09the amount of scrutiny
01:09:11that he's been under,
01:09:12the amount of haters out there,
01:09:15I think is dwarfed
01:09:17by the number of people
01:09:18that really are supportive of him.
01:09:19Today, I am nervous,
01:09:41but a little bit happier
01:09:43than sad, you know?
01:09:45Because usually when I come in
01:09:47and do, you know,
01:09:49the whole lawyer thing,
01:09:49go to court,
01:09:51it's always,
01:09:52well, you know,
01:09:53we're going to have some trouble.
01:09:54And Mark always gives me a speech like,
01:09:56I cannot keep saving your ass.
01:09:58So, you know,
01:09:59it's really a better day
01:10:01now that a probation report
01:10:02isn't horrible,
01:10:03it's actually good, you know?
01:10:05So I'm nervous,
01:10:07but trying to keep it together.
01:10:09You know,
01:10:10I want to get in there
01:10:10and just be respectful,
01:10:12polite,
01:10:12and, you know,
01:10:13if I get off probation today,
01:10:15it will be a miracle
01:10:16and it will be amazing.
01:10:17Well, today I'm hopeful.
01:10:18We'll see.
01:10:19We've got a good report.
01:10:21He just finished his tour.
01:10:23He has completed
01:10:24his community service.
01:10:26All of the things
01:10:27that the judge had asked
01:10:28the probation department
01:10:29to investigate,
01:10:31the law enforcement
01:10:32has given him
01:10:33a clean bill of health.
01:10:35He's tested repeatedly clean.
01:10:39He's a psychiatrist,
01:10:41gives him kind of great marks,
01:10:43and I can echo
01:10:44that with a psychiatrist.
01:10:46The breadth and depth
01:10:47of his understanding
01:10:48and self-awareness
01:10:49is light years
01:10:51from where it was
01:10:52six years ago.
01:10:53Right now,
01:10:54he's always nervous, man,
01:10:56because you just never know.
01:10:57Especially in my case,
01:10:58in my situation,
01:10:59it's always something.
01:11:02I'm just waiting.
01:11:03Hopefully that day
01:11:03is the day
01:11:04when all that ceases.
01:11:06Wish me luck.
01:11:07You guys, sir.
01:11:08Okay.
01:11:08Okay.
01:11:19The court's
01:11:20on the matter,
01:11:20People v. Christopher Brown,
01:11:22case number VA 353571.
01:11:26The defendant is present.
01:11:28The court does not find
01:11:30any willful violation
01:11:31of probation.
01:11:32Probation is ordered.
01:11:33Terminated at this point.
01:11:35I'm a free man.
01:11:37Thank you very much.
01:11:39Defending counsel.
01:11:40Foreign recess.
01:11:41Thank you, God.
01:11:42You're welcome.
01:11:46Anything to say, Chris?
01:11:54I'm on fucking probation!
01:11:57Ah!
01:11:58Ah!
01:11:59They terminated my probation.
01:12:01I'm a free man.
01:12:03No more problems.
01:12:05No issues.
01:12:09Nothing.
01:12:10We're great.
01:12:12I don't even know
01:12:12what to say right now.
01:12:13Probably just gonna go
01:12:14to the house,
01:12:16play with my daughter,
01:12:17and figure it out from there.
01:12:20He is at a spot right now
01:12:22and in a place right now
01:12:23that I couldn't be prouder of him.
01:12:25The court terminated
01:12:26his probation today,
01:12:27which is a monumental feat for him.
01:12:29He's completed everything
01:12:31that he was ordered to do.
01:12:32I think he learned quite a bit
01:12:34while being on probation.
01:12:35I think it was instructive for him.
01:12:37I think helpful for him.
01:12:39I couldn't be happier
01:12:40and I'm delighted for him
01:12:41and we're gonna go celebrate right now.
01:12:43I think my music
01:12:44is gonna be my legacy.
01:12:47But
01:12:48what I want the people
01:12:49to remember me for
01:12:51is my
01:12:51determination.
01:12:54And I think when my daughter
01:12:56gets older,
01:12:57you know,
01:12:58she'll look at this
01:12:58and be like,
01:13:00man, my daddy crazy.
01:13:01You know,
01:13:02but
01:13:02she'll be proud
01:13:04of the man I've become.
01:13:06You've experienced
01:13:07the travesty
01:13:09in the,
01:13:10in this traumatic journey
01:13:12back to
01:13:13just being
01:13:14a conversation about music
01:13:17and a conversation
01:13:18about artistry.
01:13:20You know,
01:13:21the fact that he's chosen art
01:13:22as another expressive tool
01:13:25I think is great.
01:13:26There's so
01:13:27many opinions
01:13:29in this world
01:13:30and
01:13:31he is
01:13:31one strong guy
01:13:33to kind of
01:13:33carry it through
01:13:35and like
01:13:35take that weight
01:13:36on his shoulders
01:13:37and
01:13:37still roll with it.
01:13:39This generation,
01:13:40I don't see nobody
01:13:41coming out like him
01:13:42for the next
01:13:4210 years.
01:13:43Of this century,
01:13:44he's,
01:13:44he's the Michael Jackson,
01:13:46you know?
01:13:46We thank you
01:13:47for this opportunity
01:13:48to allow us
01:13:49to bless these people
01:13:50with amazing talents
01:13:51and fun
01:13:51and hyper-spirits
01:13:52and all that.
01:13:53Thank everybody
01:13:53that's here.
01:13:54I'm glad to see
01:13:55each and everybody
01:13:55in good health,
01:13:56everybody in one piece.
01:13:58God, let us do
01:13:58what we came here to do
01:13:59and give him
01:14:00one hell of a night
01:14:01without the hell,
01:14:01but you know
01:14:02what I'm talking about.
01:14:02In your name I pray,
01:14:03amen.
01:14:05When you're on stage
01:14:06with him
01:14:07and when you're
01:14:07in the crowd
01:14:08with him
01:14:08and he smiles,
01:14:10to see that kid
01:14:11in him, man,
01:14:12it's,
01:14:12it's amazing.
01:14:14Chris right now
01:14:15and probably
01:14:16for the past
01:14:17couple of years
01:14:17has been so prominent
01:14:19as far as his influence
01:14:21and what music
01:14:22is right now.
01:14:24I mean,
01:14:24as it is,
01:14:25he's already
01:14:25one of the greatest
01:14:26of all time.
01:14:27The smile
01:14:27that he lost
01:14:28in those middle years
01:14:30is back in earnest now.
01:14:33And what I love
01:14:33and respect the most
01:14:34about him
01:14:35is that he didn't let him
01:14:36mess up his creativity.
01:14:38He didn't let it
01:14:39affect his music.
01:14:40And no matter
01:14:41what people say,
01:14:43he keeps giving us
01:14:44them bangers.
01:14:45That's an icon.
01:14:46I promise you.
01:14:47Chris Brown
01:14:48is a special person.
01:14:49When you're that special,
01:14:51your trials
01:14:52are gonna be great.
01:14:53Diamond's the greatest
01:14:54teacher of them all.
01:14:55When you see him now,
01:14:56he's just,
01:14:56he's just more of a man.
01:14:58I hope he becomes
01:14:59the biggest superstar
01:15:00in the world.
01:15:01I really do.
01:15:02I hope he becomes
01:15:02the biggest superstar
01:15:04in the world.
01:15:05I really do.
01:15:06I hope he becomes
01:15:06the biggest superstar
01:15:08in the world.
01:15:17My legacy is based
01:15:18on my choices.
01:15:21You know,
01:15:22I choose to be
01:15:23a great father.
01:15:27I choose to be
01:15:28a great artist.
01:15:29I choose to never
01:15:31get in trouble.
01:15:32You know,
01:15:33I'm trying,
01:15:34but I'm still human.
01:15:35With all my love
01:15:36that I get
01:15:37from my fans
01:15:38and the love
01:15:39that I get
01:15:39from my daughter alone,
01:15:41like it's shaping me
01:15:42to become legendary.
01:15:52If there was ever
01:15:53a doubt in your mind,
01:15:56Chris Brown was done,
01:15:57he was finished,
01:15:59I wouldn't bet on him.
01:16:02Every dream in my head,
01:16:05it's like a mountain
01:16:07that I just keep climbing.
01:16:09And when I get to the edge,
01:16:12I turn around
01:16:13and put that dream
01:16:14behind me.
01:16:16And it never feels
01:16:18the way I want,
01:16:20but I keep on trying.
01:16:23I just keep on trying.
01:16:25Yeah.

01:16:36and all these lights?
01:16:38Now you're lying
01:16:39on the floor.

01:17:13them bright lights
01:17:14and bikinis.
01:17:15I keep my hand
01:17:15on that gold bottle,
01:17:16I'm trying to find me
01:17:17that genie.
01:17:18They say money
01:17:18doesn't buy happiness,
01:17:20but I'd rather cry
01:17:20in that Lamborghini.
01:17:22Man,
01:17:22I don't know who I am.
01:17:23I just know who I want to be.
01:17:24No looking back,
01:17:25everything is in front of me.
01:17:26I never act like
01:17:27they're putting a gun to me.
01:17:28I ain't stuck up.
01:17:29The same motherfucker
01:17:29that I always been.
01:17:31You must got me fucked up.
01:17:32Think I change
01:17:32when I get there
01:17:33on white pants?
01:17:34Never that though.
01:17:35Been on my shop,
01:17:36saying I'm different now.
01:17:37Say I don't listen now.
01:17:38I don't got time
01:17:39to pick up the phone
01:17:40to hear what you bitching about.
01:17:41I'm on a mission,
01:17:42feel like I'm missing now.
01:17:43Wish you were in my position now.
01:17:45You never walked in
01:17:46mind of my shoes,
01:17:46I'm feeling so distant now.
01:17:47Have you been there?

01:18:16I wonder if I did that right.
01:18:18I've been drinking too much.
01:18:20I don't know what I did last night.
01:18:22Try to talk to myself like,
01:18:23you don't really want to live that life.
01:18:25I want it all to myself like,
01:18:26you don't really want to give that life away.
01:18:29But I gotta leave,
01:18:30I can't stay.
01:18:31Part of me say keep going,
01:18:33that other half say quit praying.
01:18:35Gotta keep praying.
01:18:36When I got it all,
01:18:37all these drugs and alcohol,
01:18:39living on the edge,
01:18:40I'm bound to fall.
01:18:41But I stay moving,
01:18:41stay climbing.
01:18:42Putting in work,
01:18:43I stay grinding.
01:18:44Looking for the answer,
01:18:45can't find it.
01:18:46That's the truth,
01:18:46I can't hide it.
01:18:47Now or never,
01:18:48forever,
01:18:49that's how I'm living my life.

01:18:52and you just live for the night.
01:18:54Every dream in my head,
01:18:58it's like a mountain that I just keep climbing.
01:19:01And when I get to the edge,
01:19:04I turn around and put that dream behind me.
01:19:08And it never feels the way I won't.
01:19:12But I keep on trying.
01:19:15I just keep on trying.
01:19:20Have you been there?
01:19:22Have you seen me at all?
01:19:23Have you done this once before?
01:19:26If you're telling you love this life,
01:19:28and all these lies,
01:19:30now you're lying on the floor.
01:19:33And then you're lying on the floor.
