00:00Right boys, let's vote in the dressing room, not expect adult-professors at all times, obey
00:04monstrosions, watch your resume campaign. Any questions? Let's go to work.
00:09Ten rounds, lightweight division, former world super featherweight champion Joe Cordina returns.
00:19That stoppage defeat, shocking stoppage defeat really, to Anthony Kakache, what a win it was
00:27for Kakache, look at the momentum he's had, that was back in May last year, July 2025, Cordina returns
00:37Barry and he returns at this weight and he wants to be a two-time champion. Well first of all this is
00:43his real weight anyway, he turned towards the lightweight, he went on the super featherweight
00:46to get the opportunity to fight for the world title because that lightweight title was congested,
00:51did the right thing but it was always a struggle for him making super feather, this is where he belongs
00:55but he's been out for a long time, he's an unknown quantity who on paper can punch a pad,
01:00so it's about just being safe in the early rounds that's all, don't do anything silly,
01:04you've got a lot of experience, you've got a lot of ability, a lot of skill,
01:07you can figure a style out in three minutes, have a good look.
01:10And what of this Jarrett Gonzalez Quiroz, he's only 24, first 10 rounder, but he's won his last few,
01:19only one defeat on the record, he was stopped by Hector Delares in three, does that show a problem in the
01:28resistance in the chin department, or is Joe Cordina in for a really tough night here?
01:36Yeah, just need to have a look as Barry says, get your timing, get your distance, been out the ring a long
01:40time. Oh, beautiful. Shades of the Agawa knockout there. Yeah, and what a knockout that was,
01:49a crisp right hand from Joe Cordina there, Sammy. Yeah, you see the little burst of pace,
01:55caught Gonzalez a little bit off guard there, he's looked quite sprightly on his feet though,
01:59with nice light feet, Gonzalez and a couple of heavy hands with some of the shots he's thrown,
02:03so I do think Joe with a good success there, he does need to stay switched on about what's coming back.
02:08Yes, certainly, like, when you've got something like a rhythm puncher, like, like,
02:12while I said it could come, it could punch really fluently, so obviously he's naturally heavy hand,
02:15he turns, you've got to just stay nice and compact, and you've got to make sure your
02:19punches come back as fast as they go out. 13 knockouts on the record for Quiroz, and
02:27being so much younger and fresher, the ambition there, body shots, good combinations,
02:32Darren, coming from the Mexican. Yeah, springing his step, moving,
02:37we'll be trying to have a look as well, obviously, you know, he'll know about the quality
02:41and the past achievements of Joe Cordina, but he looks confident, doesn't he? I must say as well,
02:46Cordina looks big, he looks solid, certainly brought that hand speed back up to lightweight,
02:53quick hands demonstrated by Cordina. He had a good chat with Joe in London a few weeks ago,
02:59he was absolutely bursting to get back, he's been training at home, really, with Gary Lockett,
03:05brilliant former fighter and excellent trainer, good jab from Cordina, trying to hold centre ring here,
03:12and slow down Quiroz. Yeah, it's been a nice, nice easy controlled approach here from Cordina,
03:17have a good look, but still making sure he's doing enough to win the round.
03:20Great thing you're doing when you're going back in straight lines, you're just shipping stupid shots,
03:33he's got quite the conventional style, right?
03:37Don't stand, you jab, and you let him sharp happen, right?
03:40Feint as well, side to side down and out again, instead of standing tall, right?
03:42We'll figure this kid out now in the round, you're just a little bit rusty, that's all, okay?
03:44You're moving, alright? There!
03:46There!
03:48There!
03:50Okay, just keep the hands up a little bit, you don't have things to do the other day.
04:10Okay, in the position, when he wears it, he wears it.
04:14The Welsh wizard with the rocket man, Gary Lockett, what a left hook he had,
04:18back in the day, and a right hand there from Joe Cordina, honey punch of his, of course.
04:27How's he going to fare?
04:30In the nine stone nine lightweight division, second of ten here, Wales against Mexico,
04:36experience against youth, the quality we know of Cordina, former Olympian, brilliant amateur,
04:44one of the best fighters that Wales has produced in recent times. How much has the Kokace defeat
04:51taken out of him?
04:53Sonny, do you think a long layoff as well, or did he need that?
04:56I think after a defeat like that, because it was a savage performance from Kokace,
05:04he did everything right I felt that night, and you know, I questioned how the weight process for
05:10Cordina for that fight was, because when I was up close for the Rakimov fight, I was thoroughly impressed with just how much
05:18physical toughness and resilience Joe showed that night against a heavy puncher, but that same resilience
05:24just didn't seem to be there against Kokace.
05:27What went wrong? Yeah, what went wrong, Darren, that night?
05:30I don't want to take nothing away from Kokace, he just had the fight of his life, didn't he?
05:35He really, really did perform well, punching very, very hard. There was that little bit of controversy,
05:42if you remember, but he just didn't recover from it, did he, Cordina? But look, I'll tell you what,
05:47he started this second round really, really well on the front foot, starting to get in the rhythm
05:51behind that lead hand.
05:55It depends on how Guarra's punch is, because they could walk him down, as I think he can do here,
06:01because it's better in general. If he can block and counter, then he can be a little bit braver,
06:07but if he's too heavy-handed, he doesn't want to be taking those shots on the gloves even, so
06:12he can block through this here, walk him down, give him more physical presence.
06:16Good defence from Cordina, ring generalship, I think that's a great phrase, I think that's what he is
06:21all about, Joe Cordina. He's got super skills when he uses them correctly, that jab and the,
06:30well, the way that he judges distance, Sonny.
06:34Yeah, right now I feel like he's just leading the dance, and I think the rhythm of his feet and how
06:39often he's changing his balance and taking control back of his feet, he's met, oh, that was a better
06:45shot though from the Mexican, but I think up to that point in this round, he's just doing a good job of
06:50controlling the range, controlling the pace of the fight. And that's what you can't do with the Mexican,
06:53you can't just stand there in front of them, because they will fire away, so when you do get close,
06:57you've got to take the exit to your right or your left. Not even a pivot, just a little step,
07:01that's all you need to do.
07:06That's what you've got to do more of, Quiroz, just be more proactive, let your shots go, be first.
07:12Lovely count of shots, the right hand left hook from Cordina, brilliant stuff.
07:16And he throws that shot so well, like you said, Darren, the shot he threw when he won the world
07:21title went, he throws it so well. Looks really matured, isn't it here, second round Cordina,
07:28Quiroz lively and sprightly entices the Walshman's round.
07:32Hit the round.
07:39There we go, what's up?
07:42It's okay, I'm doing something here, man.
07:44It's too, I need me to do my time,
07:47And you're struggling to do someone.
07:49It's all, when you take your shot, you're struggling to do someone.
07:51I need you, you're struggling to do someone.
07:53You're struggling to do someone.
07:55You're struggling to do someone.
07:57You're struggling to do someone.
07:59It's called Strammer.
07:59Drag it back, to have a good shot.
08:01Welcome back, Gary Lockett in the corner with the instructions for Joe Cordina,
08:22who's in with Jarrett Gonzalez-Kiros, and the Mexicans have been savage of late.
08:29Sonny, you and I were there for Galalia Fai's defeat to Francesco Rodriguez,
08:34and it was a hard watch, and he was ever so good, wasn't he, Rodriguez, in that smash and grab in Birmingham?
08:41Oh, he was phenomenal, the punch that he put up, nothing but impressive,
08:46but lovely left hook lands there for Joe Cordina.
08:50But yeah, just a very, very hard night for Galalia against a very, very good world-level fighter in Rodriguez that night.
08:56That was really good work that was from Cordina, he threw the straight right to the body, changed the levels,
09:00he got the reaction from Kiros who dropped his hands and threw the left hook,
09:04starting to go through the gears a bit here, Adam, Cordina.
09:06He really is, good movement of the feet, in and out Cordina, brilliant work, and Kiros tries to come back,
09:17but you can see the golfing class when he uses that stiff jab, Cordina, in and out, and I think it's just a matter of time before he finds that right hand, the range.
09:31And that's what Gary Locker was asking for, just a bit sharper with that jab, he'll be a bit more forceful with it.
09:36You've had a good look, though, you've had a couple of wrongs to have a look,
09:38you've got the experience, though, to be able to start implementing what you've seen,
09:41and start just taking control of the fight a little bit better.
09:44And it's almost like Gonzalez is backing up a little bit, probably because the ring generalship has been so impressive of Cordina,
09:51but it's like when he's jumping forward Cordina, he's trying to throw with him there, so that's just a bit of area of danger, I think.
09:57Because it's almost like Gonzalez is trying to walk him onto that big left hook.
10:01And I think Quiroz as well, he's sort of fighting all, step back, step back, and then jump in and then attack.
10:07Body shot.
10:08Yeah, body shot from Quiroz, but Cordina comes back with maybe the heavier-looking artillery, nine knockouts on his record,
10:17Quiroz has got 13, he's won his last five, the Mexican, but it is a big step up for him, and Cordina just looking in control here.
10:26Yeah, look, the 13 knockouts on the record of Quiroz have come at a level, levels way below a Cordina.
10:35So, I don't think Cordina will mind Gonzalez-Quiroz throwing his hands, look, someone who's got the speed, the know-how,
10:43the ability to counter-punch as quick as Cordina can, you want someone letting their hands go.
10:50Just get a little bit lower there for Joe Cordina.
10:53You see him having to retreat there, so he's pushing Quiroz back, doing the right things,
10:57and then when he attacks, he's doing, again, sensible, a little retreat means a double step at your feet.
11:03But if you just get a little bit lower, that's only one step,
11:05because they're going to punch over the top of you, or he'll stop punching,
11:08if you give him a smaller target to aim for.
11:10Really fainting as well now, Cordina, and you can see the reaction, the jittery sort of reactions from Quiroz.
11:20It won't be long until you really see Cordina throw off them.
11:24They're good shots, though, from the Mexican.
11:28Fighting fire with fire at the end of that round.
11:35Well, ripening up this one, Cordina and Quiroz.
11:38But it's the main event we cannot wait for here on DAZN.
11:44Jack Catterall against this guy, undefeated, Harlem Eubank.
11:50The cousin, of course, of Chris Jr. carrying the name.
11:54Suddenly a very different Eubank, isn't he?
11:56Yeah, I feel like this week, though, we've seen a little bit more of stereotypical Eubank fashion.
12:02I feel like Harlem, very, very nice kid.
12:05Very, very dedicated.
12:07Any time I've spent around him, he does 100%.
12:10He tries to take all the small, small margins.
12:13And I don't know, I think this could be a night where he's really looking to break out, Adam.
12:18Good young trainer in Charlie B.
12:20You can see Kieran Malloy there as well.
12:22They've got a great stable and they're very, very confident of success.
12:28Malloy undefeated as a professional.
12:31Eubank undefeated.
12:33Charlie B, good trainer.
12:35Interesting to see the tactics into the fourth round of this WBO global title,
12:41whatever that is, on the line in the lightweight division.
12:45It's more about the return of Joe Cordina and how he deals with Jarrett Quiroz here.
12:50Kiroz has come out all guns blazing in this round, really let his hands go.
12:54He had success at the end of the round.
12:56I don't think it buzzed Joe at all, but I just think maybe he's thinking,
12:58you know, if I can get him to fire with me, I've got a chance here.
13:01Yeah, he's definitely responding, isn't he, from that little spell he had at the end of that third round.
13:06And I think, again with Joe, it's just about, again, just that semi-circle on the bottom,
13:10if you double-jab his way in and then use the different angles of attack then,
13:14rather than just be squared on in front of him, that's a beautiful jab.
13:18Oh, that's a lovely jab, ramrod shot.
13:20And that's why it's great to watch at times, Cordina and Quiroz out of range with his own.
13:27Quiroz turned professional December 2017, and he was only 17.
13:36Good body shot from Cordina, but I would like to see him being a bit more weary,
13:40or a bit more doing a better job at hiding his way in.
13:44He's coming in at the same pace over and over again, I think, right now.
13:48And it's just getting a little bit closer, these shots from Quiroz.
13:51And Quiroz has a hard rhythm to read, if you like.
13:57He sort of moves, he's jerky, yeah, and all of a sudden he's jumping with some shots.
14:02So it will take Cordina rounds, I'm sure, but Quiroz, he's dangerous for sure.
14:10Yeah, he's fast and he's awkward, isn't he?
14:12How strong is he? How tough is he? Down the stretch, Cordina working the body now,
14:18just with the more meaningful shots, Joe Cordina.
14:25Pushing him back is one thing, but getting involved in a bit of a tussle,
14:28there's no need for him to do that.
14:30I don't know, he has the better technical skills.
14:33I mean, he's got good enough vision to see the shots come in.
14:36I mean, Quiroz, he jumps into his attacks and you've just got to be aware of that, that's all.
14:40You stay low and faint plenty of times, I think you'll be okay.
14:44I think there's signs that Joe's got far better footwork than his opponent here.
14:49But like I said, I would like to see him make his opponent come over the front foot a bit.
14:52He's a fantastic counter-puncher, Joe, and he can counter-punch with power.
14:56But right now he's constantly ascending forward, he's constantly closing the gap down.
15:01And he's letting Quiroz sort of dictate the pace a little bit from when they're mixing.
15:06Super right hand again from Cordina.
15:10His legs are moving well, he can see the Olympic rings on the back of his left calf.
15:16A proud man, Joe Cordina.
15:18I would say though, Senni, even though I sort of agree with you, you don't want this guy the way he's a rhythm puncher coming at you constantly with big shots.
15:28I know, I definitely agree with that, but I just think the only, the real danger here for me is when Joe's throwing, if he gets caught.
15:36Let's get over to Charlie with our brilliant guests.
15:40Thanks, Adam. Tia, how have you got it so far? Joe returning to the ring.
15:44His opponent still looks dangerous though. What would you like to see Joe doing a little bit more?
15:48I think he's doing great at the moment. He's on the front foot and I just think he's landing the cleaner shots.
15:55But I think at the moment he's doing everything right.
15:57Jordan, a return to the ring, an old stable mate of yourself. How are you assessing his performance in there so far?
16:02It's a beautiful performance. I mean, Joe, he's one of the purest, most natural talents I've ever like trained on the side.
16:08So just seeing him, he's been out of the ring for a little while as well.
16:11So I think the first couple of rounds, he was just data collecting, but now I think you've seen him come into himself,
16:15putting some real clean work together. And I feel like he's definitely got a beating in his guys.
16:18I don't think he can match him for skill, so he's trying to turn it into a bit of a dogfight.
16:21But it's a great performance so far. I've got Joe miles ahead.
16:24And Josh, lastly to you, what are you making of what you're seeing there from Joe Cordina?
16:28Yeah, Joe, I've got him up four rounds at the minute. I think, like I say, Joe's boxing is just far superior to Gonzalo.
16:33So keep it up, Joe. Cheers, guys. Back to commentary.
16:36Yeah, really interesting. Everyone thinking Cordina, the better guy.
16:41Kiros is brightly and lively and he comes out for these rounds fast.
16:46Good shots.
16:47And big shots as well. And he's really putting a lot together.
16:51And Cordina just caught on the ropes and having to fight back with him.
16:56I think Quiroz has just got to stay at that pace now. If he can maintain that.
17:00And then when he gets close to Cordina then, just try and take a little step and throw his right hand over the top.
17:05But then Cordina throws a jab and puts him back in his place.
17:11Can he keep this going, Quiroz? Or is it just raids?
17:17And he's being made to work quite hard here, Quiroz, because he's having to punch to keep Joe off him.
17:24He's constantly forcing the pace with his movement and closing the gap down.
17:29Trying to make the rings more. I think he's doing a great job of doing it so far in this round anyway, Cordina.
17:33Yeah, he's got to try and sustain that, Quiroz. Just keep the tempo high.
17:39When it's like this, you just favour Cordina quite strongly.
17:43He's got loads of space behind him to be able to take that step back.
17:47Any shots that are coming his way.
17:48And when Gonzales Quiroz does let his hands go, I wouldn't trade.
17:53Just move, get behind the jab, use your own feet and stay out of trouble.
17:58I think Cordina just felt he hurt Quiroz slightly about 20 seconds ago, Sonny.
18:03Yeah, I felt like I saw the first couple of little maybe warning signs that the pressure from Cordina
18:08and the accuracy might be getting to Gonzales a little bit here.
18:12Oh, lovely shot. Crunking left hook there from Joe.
18:16Just went to throw the jab and just spin around the back of the glove there.
18:19Yeah, the quality of the shot's starting to show here.
18:22Good uppercut though. And again, another burst from Quiroz.
18:26But the quality, not quite the same.
18:29And you said it earlier, Darren, those knockouts at a much, much lower level.
18:33And this is... Oh, no! Both of them going at it.
18:36Cordina just seemed to get tagged.
18:38Yeah, dipped his legs in. Cordina dipped his legs for sure.
18:42If you're gonna throw the left hook as an orthodox fighter,
18:45you have to make sure your right hand's up.
18:47Uppercut from Quiroz. Just felt he hurt Cordina.
18:50So both feel they've got success on the right hand now from Quiroz.
18:5445 left in the round and his corner beckoning him to go for it.
18:59Back comes Cordina with a body shot.
19:01And the turn of producing the best action of the fight.
19:05But he weren't moving his feet too much there, Joe. He held his feet.
19:09Took a couple of shots that he maybe didn't need to.
19:11But back on the ascendancy, he's pushing Quiroz back.
19:14Quiroz hasn't got the engine to work away,
19:17because he's hurt Cordina there. He just can't make it pay.
19:21Right hand body shot. Back comes Cordina.
19:24And has Quiroz punched himself out here?
19:27Good shot.
19:28Cordina with heavy, heavy artillery.
19:31And he feels now that he's got himself back together.
19:34Having been stunned a little there, Cordina.
19:36What a round in Manchester.
19:39All right, listen. You won the round, but you walked on the one.
19:46Yeah, I can't.
19:47OK? Yeah, listen, you've got to keep your hands up.
19:49And we'll look.
19:50You can do the round.
19:51Right, let's do it sensibly.
19:53Instead of doing it like a wild man, OK?
19:55Right, how do you feel?
19:57Well, he loves to keep it calm, doesn't he, Gary?
20:01He's right. He did win the round, but he didn't get caught.
20:04Yeah, he did.
20:05But yeah, the pressure, you've got to have to understand it.
20:07Dallin's right there.
20:08The basics you learn as an amateur, as a young kid.
20:12The right hand's got to stay up when you throw the left too.
20:14He's got to stay on your chin.
20:15And there, it's just a little bit loose.
20:17But you know, he was in the ascendance,
20:18and I can understand why that happened.
20:20Took that shot very well.
20:21I thought that was a clean left hook whilst he was throwing.
20:24He was blinded by his own work there, Joba.
20:26One of the very, very few better fighters in Britain
20:29that can stay calm in the fire.
20:31I love Gary Lockett staying calm in the corner.
20:34He really does.
20:35Just walked onto him there.
20:37He won the round, he just walked onto him.
20:40Absolutely.
20:41Just checking everything's OK.
20:43Second half of this one.
20:45He's been...
20:46Well, he's been fiery.
20:48Jarrett Gonzalez-Kiros, as we expected.
20:51He's won 17 of 18, just like Joe Cordina.
20:55Bit like Fiaz and Murphy, matching records.
20:58But in this one, Cordina at the much higher level.
21:01Yeah, and Quiroz...
21:02No, good epica there from Quiroz.
21:04He hasn't got the engine.
21:05No, he hurt Joe and he just couldn't jump on him.
21:07And if that would have been the other way round,
21:09Cordina would have been all over him.
21:10And that's maybe experience or just better fitness.
21:13One thing I like what Joe does as well,
21:16when his opponents letting their hands go in front of him,
21:19he sinks down to the body very quick.
21:21He changes the target of attack.
21:23And when he's just been caught,
21:25he'll bow on his gum shield and just try and work the body.
21:27And I think a lot of the time it breaks up the attack.
21:29Body shot from Quiroz.
21:32And he's not done.
21:33He might be losing these rounds,
21:34but he's having his moments in the fight.
21:37It's a big opportunity, this, for the 24-year-old.
21:41Cordina needs to keep his concentration.
21:45And keep it long, Adam, I think.
21:47Look, you can let your combinations go.
21:49Step in behind the double jab, throw the long right hand.
21:51I don't think he needs to be hooking with Quiroz,
21:54because that's when he has his best opportunities,
21:57as we see with that left hook he landed in the previous round.
22:02And utilize that experience he's picked up,
22:04the former world champion.
22:06He's a family man, a couple of girls and a boy.
22:09There's plenty happening in the Cordina house.
22:12It's busy.
22:13For the most part, you know,
22:16I was sort of saying Quiroz should be doing more work.
22:19He's just too sparse the effort that he makes.
22:24But Cordina is walking him down,
22:26not giving him much escape routes,
22:27not giving him much opportunity to mount an attack.
22:30Beautiful four or five jabs there, Sonny.
22:33Yeah, and the whole time his right hand was cocked,
22:36and he's constantly hoff flirting with the idea.
22:39It's almost like he's shaking it.
22:40Sometimes he'll shake it and stop, shake it and stop.
22:42But then a right hand just like that comes out of it,
22:45and it bursts, and it's hard to read that.
22:48It's the difference in speed, the reactions as well.
22:52Favour Cordina, that's why you just keep it long.
22:54He'll struggle for the remainder of this fight if he does that, Cordina.
22:59Good shot.
23:00Good shot.
23:07He's loving his friend there before he threw the jab.
23:09He just took his legs as well, just changed the height,
23:11allowing him to punch up with that left hand.
23:13He's a beautiful crossman, Barry, isn't he?
23:16When he's at his best, Joe.
23:17He is, he is.
23:18But also as well, as you saw in the last round,
23:21can be a little bit gung-ho.
23:22And Anthony, listen, you need a little bit of that magic
23:24to get the job done, which he's done in the past.
23:26The jab, it's lovely.
23:29And I feel like if Joe Cordina wanted to,
23:32he could walk heroes on shots all night.
23:35Just got everything back under control,
23:37like Gary Lockett wanted.
23:39Listening to instructions, Joe Cordina,
23:42mature and sensible,
23:45and that's what this guy's got to do tonight.
23:47Jack Cattrall needs one of those performances,
23:51which reminds us that he is world-class.
23:56Maybe he should have become a world champion
23:59against Josh Taylor first time around.
24:01That controversy.
24:02He got the job done the second time.
24:05Got the job done against Regis Prode,
24:07but it went wrong against Arnold Barbosa Jr.
24:11Just skipping in the dressing.
24:13We don't often see that, Darren.
24:15Every now and again, nice to see Tommy Coyle
24:18sat on the sofa there.
24:20Tommy was there last week in Hull,
24:23and what a night it was.
24:26He was an exciting fighter, wasn't he?
24:28Yeah, he had plenty of wars.
24:30We miss him.
24:36Ten-rounder here.
24:37The hors d'oeuvre before that main event
24:39between Cattrall and Eubank.
24:41Live on the zone, a fantastic July.
24:44In store.
24:45I don't know what you're looking forward to most, Sonny.
24:48It's absolutely brilliant, isn't it?
24:50Oh, no.
24:51I can't even pick a fight right now,
24:53but the main event...
24:54Oh, just like that was a great shot.
24:55I think the main event after this
24:57is going to be an absolute cracker.
24:58I'm looking at González Guerrero as well,
25:00and thinking, like, what are his keys to success
25:02at this stage of the fight now?
25:03And I think it's trying to drag Cordina into a bit of a war.
25:07You've seen when he walked him onto that hook a couple of rounds ago,
25:10it's when he got Cordina to trade with him.
25:12So I think he needs to be busy.
25:14He's trying to be a bit more aggressive.
25:16When Cordina, as I say, he's keeping it long,
25:18he's having it all his own way.
25:20When Cordina keeps his hands up, his elbows tucked in tight,
25:23when he maintains that shape,
25:25Quiroz has no entry to get any success.
25:29It's all about if Joe makes a mistake then.
25:31So for me, though, it's just about discipline for Joe.
25:33Four rounds left.
25:34You'll want to try and get the finish if you can,
25:36but sensible.
25:37If you don't get the stoppage, you don't get it.
25:39Just be sensible with your approach.
25:41There's bigger fights ahead for you,
25:43but if you lose, there's no fights ahead for you.
25:46And Quiroz has won his last five.
25:49And he still will fancy the task.
25:53He knows that Cordina can be stopped,
25:57but the class with Cordina,
26:00if he can stay out of trouble,
26:02and that's the problem.
26:03Quiroz has got the fast hands.
26:05But that's throwing that body shot.
26:07What Gary Locker said, leaning back with the chin in the air.
26:11He doesn't make many mistakes, Joe.
26:13He doesn't make many mistakes.
26:14When he makes them, they're big, aren't they?
26:16And it's usually when he's punching,
26:17he's chasing that extra last bit of work.
26:21Is he trying to really impress though, Sonny?
26:23That's the thing.
26:25Yeah, but I feel like sometimes that want and desire to impress
26:28can leave you in a sticky situation
26:30where he's flowing so much right now
26:32and he's seemingly in so much control.
26:34Why give probability away at this stage of your career?
26:38I think that's exactly what it is, Adam.
26:40I think he wants to impress.
26:41He wants to remind people what they've been missing.
26:44But it does give Quiroz the opportunity to land a big shot.
26:48But on the flip side, it makes it very exciting.
26:51It's a fight he's not losing.
26:52It's a fight he's really readily comfortable on the cards.
26:55There's only flashes of danger really.
26:57And that's the truth of it.
26:59I'm with you, Barry.
27:00Just get the win.
27:01Stay disciplined now.
27:02Stay switched on.
27:03Focused.
27:04Don't make any silly mistakes.
27:05Get the win and move on.
27:06Yep.
27:08It's all about getting that activity.
27:11The momentum are going again.
27:13Reminding the world what we've been missing.
27:17And there's definite class.
27:19Got a body shot.
27:20Body shots were good.
27:21Kiroz hurt there.
27:23Just folded.
27:24And a right hand from Cordina.
27:26Big moments for the Welshman.
27:28And Kiroz very much packed up.
27:30And there's a shift then.
27:32He's got to see calm and his approach.
27:33He'll put the foot on the gas but not reckless.
27:35Bell comes.
27:36Kiroz needed it.
27:37Back to his corner.
27:38And he was hurt there, Sonny.
27:42And he got there before his trainer as well.
27:44You can see the genuine pain in his face when that body shot landed from Joe.
27:49And again, it's where he's having so much success throughout the fight.
27:52As soon as he gets his feet down quicker and lets those body shots go,
27:56he often gets to the target before Kiroz can even maneuver his defense.
28:01He did a really good job as well, making the ring really small.
28:04He didn't jump in.
28:05He didn't follow shot.
28:06He just kept close to him as close as he could.
28:08Found his feet again and went back to work.
28:10Good exchange there from Joe Cordino.
28:12Yeah, it was a really good shot, wasn't it?
28:14He shortened it up.
28:15He went through the middle of the guard instead of going round the side of the elbows.
28:18And you can see the reaction.
28:19He dipped Kiroz.
28:20But he managed to survive.
28:21He held on and landed a right hook there.
28:25But a really, really good shot from Cordino.
28:27Yes, sweet work from Joe Cordino just to get Jared Gonzalo Quiroz back into his box,
28:36because he's been sprightly at times.
28:38He's hurt the Welshman.
28:40Nine minutes to go.
28:42Is he just going to box sensibly and get that W?
28:47Or will he try and excite to see the statistics there?
28:52The percentage, the punches thrown, landed all in Cordino's favor.
28:56He's winning it by a mile on the card, surely.
29:00So, yeah, it's stick or twist, isn't it?
29:03Yeah, and even though there has been some success from Gonzalez,
29:07I do think that Joe Cordino has done a very good job at stamping it out quite quickly.
29:11Every time he's had a clean shot or landed, he's got control back relatively quickly.
29:16So I don't think there's too much you could be looking at giving Gonzalez for this fight so far.
29:21And that's go down to that.
29:22We said ring generalship.
29:23You're just understanding where to be at the right time.
29:25And just a little just where your feet just close things down, don't they?
29:28It's the ring IQ, Darren, isn't it?
29:31From being that great amateur to British Commonwealth, the world champion.
29:36This is a really good package Joe Cordino has.
29:39So much know-how.
29:40And I think, just backing off of that, you've got to give Quiroz Gonzalez a lot of credit.
29:45If you look at that punch stats there, only 28% have landed from Cordino.
29:50And with all of what we've just said, the quality, et cetera, does show you.
29:54He's had a knack here, Quiroz Gonzalez, of getting out of the way and staying out of trouble.
29:58Well, that's not easy against someone as classy as Cordino.
30:02Both have been hurt at times.
30:06But both still very light on their feet.
30:08And Quiroz with a body shot.
30:11Quite punch hard enough, maybe.
30:14Just not often enough, I think, as well.
30:17He's made Joe respect the power a little bit, Cordino, sorry.
30:20Respect the power a little bit.
30:22But he just hasn't been able to, you know, go again.
30:25There's no phase two, phase three of the attack.
30:28Which is surprising.
30:30Because the Mexican fight is normally a non-stop and maybe saving a bit for down the stretch.
30:36Left hooks are dangerous.
30:38And in the eighth round, Quiroz still having moments.
30:43He does not need to be trading left hooks with Quiroz, Cordino.
30:48Does not need to be doing that.
30:50On the flip side, that's exactly what Gonzalez wants.
30:52Because, yeah, right now, that looks like the only percent where Joe Cordino might not win this fight.
30:58It's only when he's opening up and staying there.
31:00But I still think he did a good job.
31:02He took the shot well and he ended the boss of the exchange, I thought.
31:07And one of Cordino's enjoying this.
31:09The boxing and a bit of fighting as well in the right hands of Quiroz.
31:14And he's still a danger here late on in the fight.
31:19And Cordino's got to be careful.
31:21That's better from the Welshman.
31:23Yeah, a bit of meat in that right hand, get it from Cordino.
31:26Just keep those hands up.
31:27His elbow's tugging as tight as you can, those hands high.
31:29And just turn the body into the shots.
31:32Inside your body frame with every punch.
31:36Let's get over to Charlie to see how the three guests have it.
31:42Thanks.
31:43Thanks, Adam, here with Tia.
31:45Last time we spoke, it was one-way traffic.
31:47Been a few turbulent moments in there.
31:49Does Joe just need to ride this out to get the win now?
31:51Yeah, I think that he's definitely going to get the win.
31:54His jab and body shots eat from the center.
31:57Jordan, at times I've been watching through my fingers a little bit.
32:00Trading maybe a little bit unnecessarily like they've been saying.
32:03The left hooks, what have you made of it?
32:04I think Joe's brought the belt out in my opinion, man.
32:08He's picking him apart now.
32:09He's putting together the cleaner work.
32:11And I think he's slowed down a little bit, the other guy.
32:13And again, he's just trying to turn it into a dogfight.
32:15And Joe's matching him and beating him in the other departments.
32:18So Joe's running away with it, in my opinion, man.
32:21Josh, there's always going to be that element of ring rush, but enough here.
32:23Joe just needs to shut it out.
32:25Yeah, I think he's settled down now.
32:26He's boxing well on the outside.
32:27And obviously, like you say, he's realized that the Mexican danger is on the inside.
32:30And he's playing it safe, which is good for Joe.
32:32Cheers, guys.
32:33Tear and Jordan have it by seven and a shutout on Josh Padley's guard.
32:38Darren, do you agree?
32:40Yeah, he's winning the fight.
32:42You would say relatively comfortable, bar a shot here and there from Gonzalez when he switches off.
32:50More comfortable than you can say comfortable.
32:53Yeah, I struggled there, didn't I?
32:55I'd say that's 23 years of getting pucks in the head, that is.
32:57And the last few years being around you, Barry.
33:00Yeah, I think that's worse.
33:02Yeah, he still bugs me.
33:03Sammy, what do you reckon?
33:04Every round or pretty much?
33:05I mean, he's had his moments, Kiroz.
33:07He's played his part.
33:08Yeah, I think sometimes the way the judges seems quite interesting.
33:12But I think with Cordino winning maybe three, four, five rounds clear in a row,
33:17then rounds where the bigger shot might be and a bit of a closer one,
33:21some of those might go against Cordino just for the way I feel like judges often score fights.
33:27But I do think he's in a comfortable lead here.
33:29Low there from Kiroz.
33:31Kiroz, Joe just looks at referee Marcus McDonald.
33:35I'm sure he'll want to give a couple back, knowing the Welshman,
33:38but Gonzalez, Kiroz is still desperate to try and find a way to take home this WBO global title.
33:46More importantly, if he can get a victory over Joe Cordino, his own career just absolutely takes off.
33:54But it's got to be a knockout now, Barry.
33:57Yeah, I've just been saying it all game, just a little bit lower for Joe.
34:02He only got to widen his stance, just a little bit lower.
34:05It just makes him a hard attack at the final.
34:07I don't think punching up for him would be much better.
34:10When he faints, he dips low and he punches up with a jab and it's a beautiful punch.
34:14He just likes throwing that left hook a bit upright, doesn't he, Joe?
34:19Yeah.
34:20But I think that's how he sort of gets that last bit of power out of it as he squares his shoulders a bit.
34:24But if he's low with it, he can almost, when you're going to turn your body, you can almost chop down with it.
34:29Throw over, yeah.
34:30Yeah.
34:31Bit like what Kiroz is doing when he's throwing somebody's hook.
34:33Yeah, yeah.
34:34That's nice for Cordino, nice sharp reaction there.
34:37Just shook his right hand, Cordino.
34:39I wonder if there's a slight issue there.
34:41Back behind the jab.
34:43And here comes Kiroz again, backing up Cordino on the ropes.
34:48I think that's more of an idiosyncrasy around it's called, when he does it, sort of a habit.
34:52What?
34:53Idiosyncrasy.
34:54That's a great way.
34:55I think it happens.
34:56Good job from Cordino.
34:58Back comes Kiroz.
35:00He's really giving it a shot.
35:02He's switched off a little bit here, Joe Cordino.
35:05But you know the Mexican's going to have to come.
35:08He's going to have to start throwing the kitchen sink a little bit.
35:11His corner getting more animated.
35:13There's more punches coming out.
35:15Good body shot though, Joe Cordino.
35:16That was beautiful.
35:17The right uppercut followed by the left to the body.
35:19And the roll, and the roll after as well, which he should be doing all the time.
35:22Do you think that's so steep?
35:23Do you think that's so steep?
35:24Do you think that'll play in there with Joe's hands on if you come the way down to him now?
35:27I think, like you said there, the way he's rolling under.
35:32He's got to time the roll rather than just staying low, give him the target and take it away.
35:37We're all the best round there, Adam.
35:40Yeah, I thought Kiroz Pots really won the times in that one.
35:44Crisp work from Cordino, but Kiroz late on and surprisingly in his first tenth rounder against a former world champion.
35:54Yeah, yeah.
35:55Let's stick to the basics, Joe.
35:56Go Morgan, do anything stupid, right?
35:58Listen, I know your time is out, your speed is out, but you've got too much for this kid.
36:01Let's not do anything stupid now this last round, okay?
36:04Two weeks to go, a fortnight today, the biggest fight of the year.
36:08U6 against Dubois, the rematch undisputed heavyweight championship of the world, Saturday, July the 19th.
36:19Live on DAZN, exclusively on DAZN.
36:22Cannot wait for fight week.
36:25It's going to be absolutely electric.
36:28I'm sure Joe Cordino will be down there, he's just got to get this win.
36:32He'll be a mile ahead on the three judges' cards from Luxembourg, Poland and from England.
36:38Jarrett Gonzalez-Kiroz surely needs the knockout, but he may be saving the best for last, the Mexican.
36:45Yeah, and he's come out with a lot of ambition, Joe, right in the centre of the ring,
36:50but straight away gets caught of a couple.
36:52Got close there with that left hook, though.
36:54Tell you what, this is exactly what you need after over a year out of the ring.
36:57You know, a good, decent ten rounds under your belt.
37:02Do you know what, it's not just about finding your range and your distance,
37:05it's about reminding you about what it's like in the pressure, the stamina,
37:09you know, when we go back to listen to instructions in the corner, all that sort of stuff.
37:14And Gallilock is brilliant because he treats every fighter like it's their first fight,
37:19so he's telling about the basics. I mean, he's a world champion, why are you telling that?
37:22It's the right thing to tell him, isn't it?
37:24If he was in here tonight against someone who could have just rolled over in one or two or three rounds,
37:28he would have missed out on all of that, he wouldn't have shaken off the rust,
37:31he wouldn't have known really how far back he was.
37:34I think it's a really good match, this, for Joe Cordina to move back into boxing under the spotlight,
37:43on a big show against a very tough and admirably brave and committed opponent in Gerrit Gonzalez-Kiros.
37:52He's not going to win this fight unless something dramatic happens later on,
37:56but he's been a really good test for Cordina and a good jab again for the Welshman,
38:02and it's probably just what he needed.
38:05Can he be a big impression on this lightweight division? Can he win a world title again?
38:11Maybe, but it's a tough ass for anybody because it's a really, really hot division, it still is.
38:15We're going back to the Mexican, his first ten round is a former world champion, and look how good he's been.
38:21Yeah, do you know what, I'd rather have him back in a heartbeat.
38:26Yeah, it's been a really good performance from Kiros,
38:29but Joe Cordina has had the class, and the IQ, and the generalship,
38:35and now he's just putting his foot on the pedal.
38:39Kiros coming apart slightly, but just so game, Sonny.
38:44Yeah, and you can really see clear signs that at slight levels below this,
38:48Kiros could be a real handful, but Joe Cordina is a world-class fighter.
38:52On his best, very, very hard to beat.
38:55Imagine fighting a world-class fighter in your first ten rounder.
38:59Absolute madness.
39:01At 24.
39:02It's almost unbelievable.
39:04Yeah, he's put a great shift in tonight, he can be really proud of himself.
39:08Jarrett Kiros, but Joe Cordina will stay out of trouble, surely,
39:13for these last 20 seconds or so.
39:16Kiros has got to go for it.
39:18Cordina back with a couple of hooks and a right hand.
39:21Again, really good action.
39:23These couple of fights have been with Akin Fiaz and Alex Murphy,
39:27and these two, Cordina and Kiros, have given the Manchester crowd
39:32really good ten rounders.
39:35Falls to his knees, Kiros, a big hug of respect.
39:38Excellent night's work for both of them.
39:42Joe Cordina will get the win, but I tell you what,
39:46Jarrett Kiros can be very proud of himself.
39:48We'll have him back, and Cordina can move on just what we needed.
39:53Yeah, do you know what, I think a number of boxes being ticked there.
39:56Like you said, the opponent there, Kiros, he'll get opportunities off the back of that,
40:00showed that he can fight and he's willing to get in there with anyone.
40:03Barry said, former world champion, first ten rounder.
40:06Gary Lockett just looking at me, he was tough, wasn't he?
40:11But yeah, and then look, Joe Cordina's got the rounds,
40:14he would have brushed off some of those cobwebs,
40:17and he can move forward into big, meaningful fights
40:21where potentially, you know, some sort of eliminator or something,
40:24because he'll be desperate and hungry, Barry, to get back to fighting the title.
40:27Yeah, and because I thought it was a decent performance,
40:29but for his level and for world level, it wasn't a world performance,
40:34so nobody at world level is going to be shaking in their boots,
40:37and that'll do him a favour, because they'll think,
40:39ah, he's passing sell-by date now, or that's an opponent for me, perfect opponent.
40:44Say Abdullah Mason wins the world title now,
40:47he'll think, oh, Dean's perfect opponent, former world champion, didn't look great,
40:51didn't get rid of a Mexican in his first ten rounder.
40:54You can sell that narrative and then they'll give him the opportunity,
40:56and it's a really hard fight for him.
40:58Or Sam Lukes, if he gets the win over Nelson,
41:02he gets the opportunity for the world title there,
41:04because even though it was a decent performance,
41:06he wasn't stellar, and so it shouldn't be
41:08when you've been out in the ring for over 12 months,
41:10you know, coming back off a loss,
41:11so you've got the ring rust, you've got all those things we talked about
41:14that are important for moving on to the next step.
41:17Fabulous division at world level, the 135-pounders,
41:22and this guy's back, Shakur Stevenson,
41:25against William Cepeda.
41:27Also, Amza Shiraz and Ewa Bilanga, really good fight night.
41:33Bring Magazine 3, can't wait for it, New York a week today.
41:37Live on DAZN, Javonte Davis, we say goodbye to Vasily Lomachenko,
41:43what a wonderful career he had.
41:45Keyshawn Davis, Andy Cruz, Frank Martin, a fantastic division.
41:51Joe Cordina is part of it now.
41:54It's a victory, and how wide did the judges have it?
41:58Ladies and gentlemen, after 10 rounds of action here in Manchester,
42:06we go to the judges' score totals.
