00:02:03Instead of going down and in this room
00:02:07Not knowing if we did or lied
00:02:11Something's not worth fighting for
00:02:15Something that's never done
00:02:18I'm not asking for another chance
00:02:22I just want to know why
00:02:25There's no easy way out
00:02:30There's no trouble at home
00:02:34There's no easy way out
00:02:37Give it in, give it in, give it in
00:02:41Can't be wrong, no
00:02:43There's no easy way out
00:02:45There's no easy way out

00:03:06There's no easy, no easy, no
00:03:09Easy way out
00:03:10There's no shortcut, no
00:03:15Yes, incredible.
00:03:44So as fight night continues, we are getting ready for a bout which seems to be built on genuine bad blood.
00:03:50The ring and WBO super lightweight champion Teofimo Lopez is going to put his belts on the line against a fighter with high profile upsets already on his resume in Arnold Barbosa Jr.
00:04:00That is next live from Times Square.
00:04:02Let me hand you back to Jim Lampley and the team.
00:04:05All right. Thank you, Kate.
00:04:06Let's get ready for the first of our three main events of the evening.
00:04:10There's a good look at Arnold Barbosa, who is cast as the opponent more or less in this fight.
00:04:17But some opponent, 32-0 and 0.
00:04:21Only 11 knockouts.
00:04:22He's a boxer.
00:04:23But Teofimo Lopez is trying to regain the luster he had earlier in his career.
00:04:28After a victory over Vasily Lomachenko vaulted him to somewhere close to the top of the heap.
00:04:36And then he wound up losing to George Cambosos in a surprise upset.
00:04:40So Teofimo Lopez against Arnold Barbosa.
00:04:43Let's go to Michael Buffer for the official introductions.
00:04:46Well, ladies and gentlemen, good evening.
00:05:14And welcome to Fatal Fury here in Times Square, New York City, New York, USA.
00:05:23And an evening of world-class professional boxing for your entertainment.
00:05:27Coming up next, the first of three main event contests.
00:05:33So now, coming to the ring, one fighter, another fighter on the way at this time for this championship contest.
00:05:41Please welcome the challenger, Arnold Barbosa Jr.
00:05:46Yeah!
00:06:16Barbosa Jr.
00:06:26Barbosa taking his time to come to the ring.
00:06:30Casting his eyes about, surveying the unusual environment.
00:06:35If he's excited by this at this moment, he is doing the good job of not showing it.
00:06:42Self-contained, ready to fight.
00:06:44And now, making his entrance to the ring, the defending champion, Teofimo, the takeover, Lopez.
00:07:10Stepping out of the checker cab, a signature item in New York.
00:07:18They're hard to find these days, but it's always good when you get a hold of one.
00:07:24Teofimo Lopez, and you can see that 77% of the audience believes that Teofimo is going to win.
00:07:30That is typical of Barbosa's career.
00:07:33Mike Coppenter, I think Barbosa has been underestimated for years.
00:07:38I agree, Jim. Barbosa's a very crafty fighter.
00:07:42He can box from the outside.
00:07:43He can box going forward.
00:07:45And he's on an incredible run, like we said, at the top of the show.
00:07:48Coming off of that upset victory over Jack Catterall on the road to Manchester.
00:07:52He's ready.
00:08:00Teofimo Lopez, from the moment he entered professional boxing,
00:08:04had star quality written all over him.
00:08:06The win over Lomachenko seemed to establish him as perhaps the number one fighter of his generation going forward.
00:08:13The loss to Cambosos removed a lot of the luster, Antonio.
00:08:16Yeah, and tonight he can fix all of that by beating Ana Barbosa and getting right back in that pound-for-pound list, man.
00:08:24Again, he still only has one controversial loss to Camboso.
00:08:27And I'm still not sure why that fight hadn't happened yet with Teofimo.
00:08:33I would avenge that loss already.
00:08:35What's Teofimo's signature talent, Antonio?
00:08:38Oh, I think he's just a gift, man.
00:08:40He's one of those special talents.
00:08:41The things he do, you're not going to find, you know what I mean, on the tail of the tape.
00:08:47He has a different type of energy when he's on his square.
00:08:50And he's going to have to be the best Teofimo to win this fight tonight.
00:08:54And I'm excited to see it.
00:08:55Let's go to the best ring announcer in the sport, Michael Buffer, to set it up.
00:08:59And ladies and gentlemen, this is the first of our three main events here at Fatal Fury, Times Square, Manhattan, New York City, New York, USA.
00:09:13And it's a presentation of the Bible of Boxing, Ring Magazine, and SNK Corporation, publisher of Fatal Fury, the City of Wolves, the famous video fighting game.
00:09:26With promoters, Oscar De La Hoya for Golden Boy Promotions, Eddie Hearn for Matchroom Boxing, and Box Raw.
00:09:34This bout presented in association with Bob Arum's Top Rank Incorporated.
00:09:40This contest sanctioned by the New York State Athletic Commission, Executive Director Matthew Dell'Aglio.
00:09:47And the World Boxing Organization President, Gustavo Olivieri.
00:09:52The three judges assigned at ringside, Max DeLuca, Eric Marlinsky, and David Sutherland.
00:10:00And inside the ring, in charge of the action at the bell, your referee, Eric Daly.
00:10:05And now, with recognition from Ring Magazine for the title, this contest is 12 rounds of boxing for the WBO Junior, a Welderweight Championship of the World.
00:10:22Introducing first, fighting out of the blue corner, wearing white with blue, weighing in officially at 139.8 pounds.
00:10:31His professional record is a perfect one, 32 fights, 32 victories, including 11 big wins by knockout from El Monte, California.
00:10:43He's the number one ranked WBO challenger, ranked number three in the world by the ring.
00:10:50The former junior welterweight champion of the world, Arnold Barboza Jr.
00:11:03And his opponent across the ring, fighting out of the red corner, wearing navy blue to the ring and weighing in officially at 139.6 pounds.
00:11:12From Brooklyn, New York, his professional record stands at 21 victories, 13 big wins by knockout, only one defeat.
00:11:23He is the former undisputed lightweight world champion, the reigning and defending ring and WBO junior welterweight champion of the world,
00:11:36Perfimo, the takeover, the takeover, Lopes!
00:11:48Lopes!
00:11:49Lopes!
00:11:50Lopes!
00:11:51Lopes!
00:11:51Lopes!
00:11:52Lopes!
00:11:53Lopes!
00:11:54Lopes!
00:11:55Lopes!
00:11:56Lopes!
00:11:57Lopes!
00:11:58Lopes!
00:11:59Lopes!
00:12:00Lopes!
00:12:01Lopes!
00:12:02Lopes!
00:12:03Lopes!
00:12:04Lopes!
00:12:05Lopes!
00:12:06Okay, gentlemen, you're ready.
00:12:17Know the rules.
00:12:17Let me remind you to keep it clean, protect yourself at all times,
00:12:20obey my commands at all times.
00:12:21Touch gloves.
00:12:22Good luck to both of you.
00:12:31So Teofima Lopez against Arnold Barbosa,
00:12:34New York against California.
00:12:36In Times Square, perfect confrontation.
00:12:41You saw the fan polled and favored Teofima Lopez by 77%.
00:12:48Fans of Barbosa, who is 32-0, might beg to differ.
00:12:55A year ago, on the undercard of Ryan Garcia versus Devin Haney
00:13:01in the Barkley Center across the water in Brooklyn,
00:13:03Barbosa had a close fight against a lanky Irishman named Sean McComb.
00:13:09A lot of people thought McComb was winning the fight.
00:13:12Barbosa wound up with a clear decision.
00:13:16Yeah, Jenna, speaking of that,
00:13:18I visited Teofima Lopez in camp in Miami,
00:13:20and he told me that Barbosa Jr. had quote-unquote barely won his last three fights or so.
00:13:31It was a close decision against McComb, that's for sure.
00:13:34At the end of the day, it's not how you win him, it's whether you win him.
00:13:44And I'll say that those three opponents were top-notch opponents.
00:13:48Those weren't just any of your average guys, you know what I'm saying,
00:13:51in the rankings, those are top of the heat.
00:13:59There's an interesting comparison
00:14:01between Barbosa and 168, 175-pound knockout sensation David Benavides.
00:14:10David Benavides in early teens
00:14:12had to peel off 80-plus pounds
00:14:16to get himself into shape to become a boxer.
00:14:19Barbosa at one point put on 100 pounds
00:14:22to be a football player
00:14:24and became a pretty good high school football player,
00:14:26a linebacker at over 200 pounds,
00:14:29then peeled off 80 to 100 pounds
00:14:32to get back into position to be the boxer he is now.
00:14:36If you have the discipline to do that kind of thing,
00:14:39then you have the discipline to pursue the craft of boxing,
00:14:45which takes day after day, hour after hour application.
00:14:49This sophisticated chess match about to heat up, man.
00:14:51I really like that both of these guys came out with their mind in the game.
00:14:55They're not just in there physically trying to break that door down.
00:14:59They're thinking they went through this fight.
00:15:02And you mentioned discipline, Jim.
00:15:04Arnold Barbosa has had a bunch of training camps in Big Bear
00:15:07away from his family in the mountains, in altitude.
00:15:15Big Bear has a long record of success
00:15:18as a training location for a lot of top fighters.
00:15:26Good right hand by Barbosa.
00:15:28And the left hand, on your knees, by Teofimo.
00:15:35They're trading shots, more or less in the middle of the ring.
00:15:39Which is an entertaining start to this fight.
00:15:42It is.
00:15:45Relax, guys. Relax. Relax. Let me in. Let me in.
00:15:48Let me in. Relax. Relax. Relax.
00:15:51Relax. Yo, that's. Yo.
00:15:54Ah, shit.
00:15:55You all right?
00:15:55You see, you see his face.
00:15:57You see his face.
00:15:59You see his face. That shit hurt him, bro.
00:16:01That shit hurt him. That body shot hurt him.
00:16:04Keep on jabbing.
00:16:06Keep on jabbing. You'll get him.
00:16:08You'll get him.
00:16:09You can't throw that right hand like that.
00:16:12Jab your way in.
00:16:16You got a lot of energy, bro.
00:16:19Pégale duro.
00:16:20When you touch, touch, rock a la.
00:16:22I got it. I got it.
00:16:24Remember, you got to touch him.
00:16:27Then go for it, all right?
00:16:28You hurt him in the body already.
00:16:30Keep on jabbing.
00:16:32Come on, man.
00:16:34Come on, man.
00:16:34Lopez taking instruction from his father in the corner.
00:16:45Taller Barbosa stepping to the center of the ring again.
00:16:53Both fighters jabbed to the body.
00:17:00What's the normal purpose of the jab to the body, Antonio?
00:17:03Well, that's just to set the other punches up.
00:17:06And it keeps your guy at base.
00:17:08It's hard.
00:17:08Oh, good right hand counter.
00:17:10It's hard to go through that stiff body shot.
00:17:14But look for T.O. to add on to that shot.
00:17:17That's what makes it effective.
00:17:19Combination punchers are usually the best fighters.
00:17:23Teofimo Lopez has been at times in his career
00:17:26a brilliant combination puncher.
00:17:33And, Jim, of these three main events,
00:17:36this fight has by far the closest odds.
00:17:38Lopez entered the fight just a minus 260 favor.
00:17:49Sneaky left hand.
00:17:50And this is the third defense of Lopez's
00:18:03ring magazine junior welterweight title.
00:18:05He won it from Josh Taylor,
00:18:06defended it successfully against Jermaine Ortiz
00:18:09and then against Steve Claggett last summer.
00:18:11But this is certainly the toughest opponent by far
00:18:13of those three defenses.
00:18:14Love to clanded for Barbosa.
00:18:22Not a hard shot.
00:18:25But it found the target.
00:18:29If these rounds are going to be this competitive
00:18:32and this close, it's going to be a nightmare
00:18:33for these judges to find out
00:18:35who's actually winning this fight.
00:18:39Well, particularly because that,
00:18:41excuse me, at this moment,
00:18:43it's not an overwhelmingly fast pace.
00:18:46There are flurries.
00:18:48There are moments when they step to each other.
00:18:49There are other moments when they're standing
00:18:51and looking at each other
00:18:52and trying to survey the next opportunity.
00:18:54That always makes it harder for judges, too.
00:19:02You certainly see the disparity in the hand speed.
00:19:04Lopez, one of some of the fastest hands in the sport,
00:19:07and Barbosa's patient.
00:19:08He's waiting to counterpunch.
00:19:09What he does right there.
00:19:13Great observation, Cop.
00:19:14Too slow!
00:19:16Too slow!
00:19:17Let's rip him apart, now!
00:19:20Go, go, go!
00:19:21Get in again!
00:19:22Too slow, people!
00:19:28No measuring.
00:19:29No sticking arm out like that.
00:19:30Let's go.
00:19:31Come on, ladies.
00:19:31Ten seconds!
00:19:33Let's go!
00:19:34Let's go!
00:19:35That was beautiful.
00:19:39Time!
00:19:46You have him on the road.
00:19:53Fight night on DAZN.
00:19:54Brought to you by that prize guy.
00:19:57Time Square.
00:19:58On a Friday night.
00:20:00Always a lively and active scene.
00:20:03You might see this at any moment of the day or night, of course,
00:20:05because of the level of flow, traffic, and human beings
00:20:09who come through Time Square.
00:20:10But this is special.
00:20:11These people are here for a unique setting
00:20:16for a boxing card,
00:20:19courtesy of Turkey All Shake,
00:20:20who has brought big-time boxing
00:20:22to the middle of Time Square.
00:20:24You see T.O.
00:20:27He keeps jabbing to the body,
00:20:29and that's obviously a great way
00:20:30to disrupt Barbosa's rhythm.
00:20:32I think you showed me between rounds
00:20:34a scorecard that had T.O. winning
00:20:36the first two rounds.
00:20:38Yeah, Jim.
00:20:38I have T.O. up 20-18, 2-0.
00:20:41But these are tough rounds to score,
00:20:43particularly the first rounds.
00:20:45I just like...
00:20:45I think T.O.'s beating Barbosa to the punch,
00:20:47and, of course, he's more creative with his offense.
00:20:50None of that unexpected.
00:20:56And that's part of what may make it
00:21:00an uphill fight for Barbosa
00:21:01is a little more workmanlike as a boxer
00:21:04than Teofimo Lopez.
00:21:05Well, that was a good right hand
00:21:06that Barbosa just landed,
00:21:08but Teofimo reacted and fired right back.
00:21:11This is going to be a hell of a fight.
00:21:12I think if Barbosa has in his arsenal
00:21:16a best punch,
00:21:18to me it's his straight right hand.
00:21:20I think that he beat McComb
00:21:22stepping forward with a straight right hand.
00:21:24Now that's against a softball.
00:21:26Obviously, this is a different equation
00:21:29because Teofimo is a conventional fighter.
00:21:31And you see right there,
00:21:32the leg, the footwork, the movement.
00:21:35That'll drive a guy like Honorable Barbosa
00:21:37because he needs you to engage.
00:21:39You know what I mean?
00:21:40And Teofimo is not having it.
00:21:41He's on the square tonight.
00:21:43Teofimo, one of the most athletic fighters
00:21:44in all of boxing
00:21:45and one of the most confident, too.
00:21:48And he's getting home
00:21:49with that left hand to the body.
00:21:50Be prepared for that right hand
00:21:51to crash up top.
00:21:52Watch.
00:22:00Straight right hand again from Barbosa.
00:22:08I think Barbosa's going to have
00:22:09to close the gap a little bit
00:22:10if he let Teofimo just sit out there
00:22:12from that range,
00:22:13he'll never be able to find it.
00:22:15He'll fall.
00:22:15He's falling short with his jab.
00:22:17Falling short with his jab
00:22:18by a few inches every time.
00:22:20So that underlines your point.
00:22:24Antonio.
00:22:24And it's the little movement
00:22:25that Teofimo is doing in front of Arnold
00:22:27that's giving him these fits.
00:22:30The little feints,
00:22:31the little breaks,
00:22:31because he don't know
00:22:32if he's going to punch off
00:22:33those movements.
00:22:35Good kind of hook.
00:22:36The little feints upset your timing
00:22:41and rhythm.
00:22:42It really does.
00:22:43And look at that hook
00:22:44he just hit on Barbosa with.
00:22:46Teo is on his square.
00:22:47I haven't seen him look this good
00:22:48in a long time.
00:22:50He's certainly looking sharp.
00:22:51I lost some sparring in Miami.
00:22:53He almost put one of his
00:22:54barring corners through the ropes.
00:22:55Oh, that kind of shot
00:22:57with the right hand.
00:22:58Excellent.
00:22:59Teofimo Lopez
00:23:00showing you some of his
00:23:03remarkable talent
00:23:04here in this round.
00:23:08He was already ahead
00:23:09two rounds to none
00:23:10or two rounds to none
00:23:12on Coppinger's card
00:23:13and now a third round.
00:23:16Very good.
00:23:16One right round at the top.
00:23:19And in Teofimo,
00:23:20his only loss,
00:23:21George Cambosis Jr.
00:23:22has a fight set
00:23:23and it's against
00:23:24Richardson Hitchens.
00:23:26Defending his IBF
00:23:27super lightweight title
00:23:28for the very first time.
00:23:29Cambosis,
00:23:30the former unified
00:23:31lightweight champion,
00:23:32looking to become
00:23:32a two-division champ
00:23:34in this fight.
00:23:34The fight is Saturday,
00:23:36June 14th
00:23:36at the theater
00:23:37at Madison Square Garden.
00:23:39That fight
00:23:39and so many others
00:23:40live on DAZN for you.
00:23:46Mike Carpenter,
00:23:47did George Cambosis
00:23:48train in Australia
00:23:49or is he training here
00:23:51for the fight?
00:23:52Against Richardson Hitchens?
00:23:53Yeah.
00:23:54He is training in Australia
00:23:55guy here.
00:23:56But look,
00:23:57I think Cambosis,
00:23:57you can never count him out.
00:23:59Obviously,
00:24:00he had that major upset
00:24:00against Teo
00:24:01and they should really
00:24:02run that fight back
00:24:03as Antonio said earlier.
00:24:04quite an assignment though
00:24:17to train in Australia
00:24:18and then make the long flight
00:24:19here to the United States
00:24:21and try to put it all together.
00:24:23He's done it before.
00:24:24He also often trains in Miami
00:24:28and again,
00:24:30Hitchens has a tricky style.
00:24:34And we turn our attention
00:24:35back to round four
00:24:36between
00:24:37and he's done it.
00:24:38TPMO Lopez
00:24:39and Arnold Barbosa
00:24:41and let's once again
00:24:42check in
00:24:43with the one-time
00:24:44heavyweight sensation
00:24:45Mike Tyson.
00:24:47Mike,
00:24:47what do you see?
00:24:48Hey,
00:24:48sensational fight.
00:24:50Man,
00:24:51Barbosa's in there fighting.
00:24:53TPMO is very sharp.
00:24:56Very sharp fighter.
00:24:58Very elusive.
00:25:03Jim,
00:25:03I just think so far
00:25:04the hand speed
00:25:05and the foot speed
00:25:05is a big problem
00:25:06for Barbosa.
00:25:08It's hard for Barbosa
00:25:09to hit him.
00:25:11Very elusive
00:25:12TPMO Lopez.
00:25:19I think that's where
00:25:20Barbosa needs to pitch camp
00:25:22right there.
00:25:23if he's going to have
00:25:24some offensive effect
00:25:26to be an offensive effective
00:25:28against TPMO.
00:25:37Good time right hand
00:25:40by TPMO.
00:25:46I think as Jim pointed out,
00:25:48Barbosa keeps reaching
00:25:49with that jab.
00:25:49He's just fighting
00:25:50at the wrong distance, right?
00:25:51That means he got to
00:25:52double it up.
00:25:52Get closer.
00:25:55And I think also
00:25:57on a Barbosa
00:25:57need a man
00:25:58to be kind of
00:25:59standing still.
00:26:00You know,
00:26:01when you move,
00:26:02it throws him off
00:26:02for sure.
00:26:04Well,
00:26:05he's not as fast
00:26:05as TPMO Lopez.
00:26:07He's not as fluid
00:26:08in his motions
00:26:09as TPMO Lopez.
00:26:10He's a hardworking
00:26:11fighter.
00:26:12He's a hardworking fighter
00:26:12fighter who might be
00:26:13just a little bit
00:26:14outtalented here.
00:26:17That's what it looks
00:26:18like right now,
00:26:18but he still have
00:26:19rounds to go.
00:26:20He could change it,
00:26:21turn it around,
00:26:22but you've got to be
00:26:23a smart fighter
00:26:24to do that.
00:26:24You should never
00:26:25count out a fighter
00:26:25who's 32-0.
00:26:27He's seen a lot,
00:26:28he's gotten past a lot,
00:26:29he's found a way
00:26:30to win fights
00:26:31that might not have
00:26:31been going his way.
00:26:33Now,
00:26:34it appears he would
00:26:34have to do it again.
00:26:39It's probably
00:26:39the most gifted
00:26:40fighter he's put.
00:26:42Exactly.
00:26:42I'm curious to know
00:26:43what his corner's
00:26:43going to tell him
00:26:44in between rounds.
00:26:46I'll hold it
00:26:47back of his head.
00:26:48I'll pull it
00:26:48on the back of his head.
00:26:52Barbosa landed
00:26:53an uppercut,
00:26:54but he was throwing
00:26:54it from a distance.
00:26:56It loses power
00:26:57when it has to travel
00:26:58through space.
00:27:00The uppercut
00:27:01that really hurts you
00:27:01is the one
00:27:02that stopped
00:27:02measuring Barbosa
00:27:03inside.
00:27:09Last week,
00:27:10there was a
00:27:10sensational fight
00:27:11in England
00:27:11between Conor Benn
00:27:12and Chris Dubank Jr.
00:27:14Our Emily Austin
00:27:15has caught up
00:27:16with Conor Benn.
00:27:19We are here
00:27:20in Times Square
00:27:21with Conor Benn
00:27:21coming off
00:27:22of a phenomenal fight.
00:27:23What a welcome
00:27:24to New York.
00:27:24Have you ever
00:27:25seen such a thing?
00:27:26No, it's a blessing
00:27:26to be here
00:27:27and watch history tonight.
00:27:28I mean,
00:27:29what an event,
00:27:29what an occasion.
00:27:30I thought it was
00:27:30crazy at first,
00:27:31I couldn't see it
00:27:33and now what an event.
00:27:34You know,
00:27:35it's unbelievable.
00:27:35Absolutely phenomenal.
00:27:36Fans are thinking
00:27:37these fights are 50-50.
00:27:38Any predictions
00:27:39going into the night?
00:27:40They're definitely
00:27:40all 50-50.
00:27:41I think there may be
00:27:42one upset.
00:27:43I've got T.O.
00:27:43over Barbosa.
00:27:44I just think T.O.'s
00:27:45all wrong.
00:27:46I've got Ramirez
00:27:47and Haney.
00:27:48That's a 50-50 fight.
00:27:50But then I've got
00:27:51Ryan Garcia
00:27:51to maybe be in a sticky
00:27:52fight early on.
00:27:54First two rounds
00:27:55and then I think
00:27:56Ryan will get
00:27:57the stoppage.
00:27:58Ryan by stoppage.
00:27:59Ryan by stoppage.
00:28:00Well, we'll find out
00:28:01in just a few moments.
00:28:02I'll let you enjoy
00:28:02the fight.
00:28:03Thank you so much.
00:28:03Pleasure.
00:28:06Cap,
00:28:06did you find it
00:28:07interesting that he
00:28:08called the fight
00:28:12between Haney
00:28:13and Ramirez
00:28:14a 50-50?
00:28:16Yeah, I think
00:28:17that's going a bit
00:28:17too far.
00:28:18I think that's
00:28:18probably personal.
00:28:19Devin Haney
00:28:20and Connor Ben
00:28:20have talked a lot
00:28:22of trash on social
00:28:22media over the years.
00:28:25Well, I think
00:28:25they're really basing
00:28:26it off the last fight
00:28:28that Haney had.
00:28:29There's still a lot
00:28:30of questions
00:28:30that hasn't been
00:28:31answered that we're
00:28:33going to need to answer.
00:28:34You're talking about
00:28:34the fight in Brooklyn
00:28:35against Ryan Garcia
00:28:36last year.
00:28:37Exactly.
00:28:38Which was a nightmare
00:28:39for Haney
00:28:39but wound up
00:28:40with no decisions.
00:28:43And Haney
00:28:47like Barbosa Jim
00:28:48he trained in
00:28:48Big Bear too.
00:28:51Never a bad idea.
00:28:55Eskenati Golovkin.
00:28:57Good counter right
00:28:58by Teofimo Lopez.
00:29:00Teo looks super
00:29:01super sharp today.
00:29:02Good body shot.
00:29:03Yeah, he is sharp.
00:29:04He's on his face.
00:29:05Is it the best
00:29:06Teo we've seen
00:29:07since his win
00:29:08over Lomachenko?
00:29:09I would say yes.
00:29:10Watch your heads
00:29:11in there guys.
00:29:11Watch your heads.
00:29:12He's in control.
00:29:13He's doing what
00:29:14he want to do.
00:29:16So he's put it
00:29:17together at the
00:29:17right moment
00:29:18for the right stage.
00:29:19A New York fighter
00:29:20fighting in Times Square.
00:29:22You know he's
00:29:22feeling good.
00:29:23Look at the moves
00:29:23he's making.
00:29:24Yeah.
00:29:25He's showboating
00:29:26just a little bit.
00:29:31Barbosa now
00:29:31doing a better job
00:29:32of coming in
00:29:33and landing his shots
00:29:34and asserting himself.
00:29:36Well Barbosa
00:29:37is nothing if not
00:29:38determined.
00:29:38but he's gotten
00:29:39through a lot
00:29:40of different obstacles
00:29:41in his career.
00:29:43He has probably
00:29:44performed at a higher
00:29:45level than most
00:29:46people would have
00:29:47thought when his
00:29:48professional career
00:29:48began.
00:29:54Yeah, Teofimo Lopez
00:29:55he has a bit of
00:29:56swelling under his
00:29:56right eye.
00:29:57It's gotten a little
00:29:57worse as the rounds
00:29:58have gone on.
00:29:59Only in round five
00:30:02he was scheduled
00:30:0312th.
00:30:04Still plenty of time
00:30:05for Barbosa
00:30:06almost certainly
00:30:07behind on the
00:30:08scorecards
00:30:09to find the way
00:30:10to reel Teofimo
00:30:11in.
00:30:12But again
00:30:12Teofimo looking
00:30:13so good
00:30:14and there's a
00:30:15hard right hand
00:30:16thrown from
00:30:16distance
00:30:17but landed
00:30:17perfectly.
00:30:19And I believe
00:30:19that one two
00:30:19he's found a home
00:30:20with that one two
00:30:21he's trying to
00:30:22smash in on
00:30:23on a Barbosa
00:30:24looking to hurt him
00:30:25or either drop him
00:30:26with him.
00:30:26You see Teofimo
00:30:30a lot of these
00:30:30times using that
00:30:32cross-arm defense
00:30:32and it's working
00:30:33pretty well for him.
00:30:36It's his version
00:30:37of the Philly
00:30:38Shield.
00:30:38It's pretty
00:30:39pretty brilliant
00:30:40counter-punching
00:30:41by Teofimo
00:30:42in some moments
00:30:44particularly in
00:30:45this round.
00:30:46Yeah, he's in
00:30:46his bag right
00:30:47now, Jim.
00:30:49He's feeling
00:30:50good now.
00:30:53Remember this
00:30:54entertainment
00:30:54is the
00:30:55entertainment
00:30:56business.
00:30:56Look at that
00:31:00jab.
00:31:01Ten seconds,
00:31:02gentlemen.
00:31:06So often
00:31:07fighters portray
00:31:08with their
00:31:08body language
00:31:09how confident
00:31:09they're feeling
00:31:10in the ring.
00:31:11Peofimo
00:31:12strutting,
00:31:12dancing,
00:31:13throwing a
00:31:14left hook
00:31:14in the middle
00:31:15of a dance
00:31:15step
00:31:16and then
00:31:17mugging
00:31:18for the audience.
00:31:19All of that.
00:31:20He's putting
00:31:20on a show
00:31:21man.
00:31:21He's performing.
00:31:22Unbelievable.
00:31:2335 rounds.
00:31:24Keep on
00:31:28fucking him
00:31:29with the jab.
00:31:30You're listening
00:31:30to me.
00:31:31Give him water.
00:31:33He's done
00:31:33what I told you.
00:31:36You're better
00:31:37in your distance.
00:31:38because that jab
00:31:42is too fast.
00:31:43Listen,
00:31:43the jab is
00:31:44winning us
00:31:44the fight.
00:31:46Don't stop
00:31:46throwing it
00:31:47and then set up
00:31:49your punches.
00:31:49Think about it.
00:31:51Every time
00:31:52you do it,
00:31:53slip back.
00:31:54Give him this.
00:31:55Give him this.
00:31:56Come back
00:31:56with the right.
00:31:57It's your night.
00:31:58You're ready.
00:31:59You got your rhythm
00:32:00after your fifth.
00:32:01As we continue
00:32:06to watch
00:32:06New York fighter
00:32:07Tiafimo Lopez
00:32:08let's go once again
00:32:10for observations
00:32:11from the ultimate
00:32:12New York fighter
00:32:13Mike Tyson.
00:32:15Man,
00:32:16if I'm not mistaken
00:32:17Tiafimo Lopez
00:32:19has given a masterful
00:32:20performance.
00:32:20Get down, man.
00:32:21Get down.
00:32:21Get down.
00:32:23I don't think
00:32:24you're mistaken, Mike.
00:32:25No, he's just
00:32:26looking good.
00:32:26Smart, fast, sharp,
00:32:28elusive.
00:32:28Not getting hit
00:32:29countering.
00:32:30Mike, at what point
00:32:34in a training camp
00:32:35are you sure
00:32:36that you're going
00:32:37to come in
00:32:37and deliver
00:32:38a performance
00:32:39like this?
00:32:40Does it take
00:32:40all the way
00:32:41to the end
00:32:41of the training camp
00:32:42or can you tell
00:32:43halfway through,
00:32:43two-thirds
00:32:44of the way through,
00:32:45something like that?
00:32:46I'm the guy
00:32:46that takes us
00:32:47into the training camp
00:32:48and I'm fighting
00:32:48hard every moment
00:32:49in the round.
00:32:51So, yeah,
00:32:51I like to fight
00:32:52to the end like what?
00:32:54A few days before
00:32:55the fight
00:32:55and just get right
00:32:56in there.
00:32:56Just get so accustomed
00:32:57to fighting,
00:32:58sparring, sparring
00:32:59and just get right
00:33:00in the ring.
00:33:04Thank you, Mike.
00:33:06Product of the great
00:33:07Customato,
00:33:09mystical teacher
00:33:10and trainer
00:33:11of boxing
00:33:12who handled Mike
00:33:16from his teenage years
00:33:17onward
00:33:17after having taken
00:33:20Floyd Patterson
00:33:20to Olympic gold medal
00:33:22and heavyweight championship
00:33:23of the world.
00:33:25Customato was a legend
00:33:26in the sport.
00:33:27Mike Tyson is still
00:33:28a legend in the sport.
00:33:31I just want to point out,
00:33:33man,
00:33:34Tiofimo Lopez
00:33:36is looking fantastic
00:33:37tonight and
00:33:37I can't see too many
00:33:39fighters beating him
00:33:40on this square.
00:33:41when he's moving like this,
00:33:43being hard to hit
00:33:44and counter-punching,
00:33:45practically unbeatable, man.
00:33:48Well, it would probably
00:33:48take another fighter
00:33:50with extreme natural talent
00:33:51and Barbosa
00:33:52is not that.
00:33:53He's a worker beat.
00:33:54And a good one.
00:33:56A really good one
00:33:57who has accomplished
00:33:58a lot.
00:33:59Once again,
00:34:00the record is 32 and 0
00:34:01and there's a hard
00:34:02counter-right hand
00:34:03that could change
00:34:05perspectives right now.
00:34:07He heard him.
00:34:08He heard him with that one.
00:34:09Let's see how he follows up.
00:34:10But they both exchanged.
00:34:11Did you see that, Mike?
00:34:12They both landed.
00:34:13Solid shot.
00:34:13He buckled his legs.
00:34:16Another one.
00:34:18Antonio Tarver
00:34:19is flinching
00:34:20here at ringside.
00:34:21Antonio,
00:34:22they're not hitting you.
00:34:23Don't worry.
00:34:23I can see it coming, though.
00:34:27That was exactly
00:34:28what Barbosa needed
00:34:29to change this fight.
00:34:31And close the distance, Mike.
00:34:32He need to close the distance
00:34:33to have that type of success.
00:34:34He's got to keep
00:34:35letting his hands go, though.
00:34:36And he's got to put
00:34:37mental determination
00:34:38behind it.
00:34:39It can't just be
00:34:39a one-punch festival.
00:34:41He's got to make
00:34:42that festival
00:34:44begin a momentum shift
00:34:46in the fight.
00:34:47And he's trying to do it
00:34:48right now.
00:34:51He's landing his best shots.
00:34:52He's landing
00:34:53in the entire fight thus far.
00:34:55And see,
00:34:55can he keep on
00:34:56advancing with that?
00:34:58Well, he's letting
00:34:59Giofimo lead
00:35:00and he's countering
00:35:01effectively.
00:35:0130 seconds, gentlemen.
00:35:02Is this a Barbosa round, Jim,
00:35:09you think?
00:35:10Well, the one big shot
00:35:11was hard to ignore.
00:35:14And, you know,
00:35:14if there's any round
00:35:15so far that you would
00:35:16give to Barbosa,
00:35:17that would be it.
00:35:18I don't score fights.
00:35:20Mike, you do.
00:35:21Yeah, Jim, I have
00:35:22Giofimo Lopez up
00:35:23five rounds to one.
00:35:25That sixth round
00:35:26where Barbosa lands
00:35:27that big right hand,
00:35:28you see Giofimo's legs buckle.
00:35:30That was the first round
00:35:30I gave to Barbosa,
00:35:31the challenger.
00:35:32And I think most importantly,
00:35:34Giofimo is now cut
00:35:35under the left eye
00:35:36from that right hand.
00:35:37He got beat
00:35:38to the punch right there.
00:35:39Giofimo landed in the chest
00:35:41and Barbosa landed
00:35:42right on the nose.
00:35:45Coppinger's unofficial
00:35:46scorecard there.
00:35:46You see it.
00:35:47You see the sixth round
00:35:49going to Barbosa.
00:35:50One punch can sometimes
00:35:52change a fight.
00:35:53That was a really good
00:35:54counter right hand.
00:35:56Wasn't enough to change
00:35:57the fight.
00:35:57I think we talked Mike
00:35:58into that one.
00:35:59He wanted to get out
00:36:01with the low pay.
00:36:02Let's go, coaches.
00:36:03Come on.
00:36:05You see them looking
00:36:05on the right eye right now.
00:36:07It is in a good spot,
00:36:07at least.
00:36:08It's under the eye.
00:36:09And I think it was that shot
00:36:10that caused it.
00:36:11Absolutely.
00:36:14Sometimes a mouse
00:36:16under the eye
00:36:17eventually becomes a cut.
00:36:19That's a big change
00:36:20in a fight.
00:36:21Most definitely.
00:36:25But as Barbosa
00:36:27begins this round,
00:36:28Tio goes back
00:36:29to the more confident
00:36:30body language,
00:36:31doubling the jab,
00:36:33waiting to counter,
00:36:36looking if Barbosa
00:36:37is going to lead,
00:36:38which he isn't at this point.
00:36:39Tio Fimo comes with
00:36:40a hard right hand
00:36:41over the top.
00:36:42Great right hand.
00:36:43I think Barbosa
00:36:45just stands in front of Tio
00:36:46until Tio jabs.
00:36:47He won't beat him
00:36:48to the jab.
00:36:49Jab first.
00:36:55I don't know
00:36:56if he's quick enough
00:36:56to jab first.
00:36:58It takes explosive
00:36:59release
00:37:01sometimes to do that.
00:37:03He's good.
00:37:03Yeah, you see Barbosa's
00:37:06left eye swallowing up
00:37:07here.
00:37:08He just got countered
00:37:09with an overhand right.
00:37:10Ooh.
00:37:11Tio's getting close
00:37:12with combinations, guys.
00:37:18Whatever effect
00:37:19that right hand had,
00:37:20Tio Fimo certainly
00:37:21has recovered now.
00:37:22At the end of the day,
00:37:24Barbosa just doesn't have
00:37:25the same kind of firepower
00:37:26that Tio Lopez has.
00:37:27And that's what's been
00:37:30the difference
00:37:30in the fight so far.
00:37:36That along with the fact
00:37:37that Tio clearly won
00:37:38the first five rounds.
00:37:40And with experience,
00:37:41you know,
00:37:41Barbosa will learn
00:37:42that there's different,
00:37:44you know,
00:37:44he can do
00:37:45with different wrinkles.
00:37:48When a fighter
00:37:48is 32-0, Antonio,
00:37:51is there still
00:37:52a gap in experience?
00:37:53It depends on
00:37:54which opponents
00:37:54he's fought, right?
00:37:55Exactly, exactly.
00:37:56It doesn't mean
00:37:57that he's fought the best,
00:37:59but he has fought
00:38:00great, good fighters.
00:38:01I don't know
00:38:02how many great fighters
00:38:03he faced.
00:38:04And tonight,
00:38:04he's in there
00:38:05with a great fighter.
00:38:07Well, that's what
00:38:07everybody said
00:38:08about Tio Fimo Lopez
00:38:09after he beat Lomachenko.
00:38:12And he's flashing
00:38:13that kind of talent
00:38:14again here tonight
00:38:15in New York City,
00:38:17in Times Square,
00:38:18in the first ever
00:38:20event of its kind.
00:38:23Yeah, Barbosa seems
00:38:25to not be committing
00:38:25to one strategy.
00:38:27We've seen him
00:38:27trying to pressure
00:38:28Tio Fimo,
00:38:29now he's trying
00:38:29to counter him,
00:38:30and nothing's really
00:38:31working, is it?
00:38:36Well, again,
00:38:37if you're just as quick
00:38:40as your opponent,
00:38:41then you can gain
00:38:43purchase by countering
00:38:45well.
00:38:45But if you're not
00:38:46as quick as your opponent,
00:38:47it's very hard
00:38:47to counter him.
00:38:49And Tio Fimo Lopez
00:38:50is quicker than
00:38:51Arnold Barbosa.
00:38:52We can see that.
00:38:53Barbosa's going to have
00:38:55to learn variations
00:38:56in his boxing game.
00:38:58You know,
00:38:58you can throw the jab
00:38:59a hundred different ways.
00:39:00Speed, power.
00:39:02And those are the...
00:39:03He can take some power off
00:39:04and smash it down
00:39:06with power,
00:39:06but he has to have
00:39:07variations to his game,
00:39:08Mike.
00:39:11And you can see it
00:39:11on Barbosa's face.
00:39:12He is getting frustrated,
00:39:13right?
00:39:14By thinking
00:39:15with the smarter fighter.
00:39:16watch party
00:39:19in Times Square.
00:39:22Watch party
00:39:23in New York City.
00:39:25And let's take a look
00:39:26at a package
00:39:27from the fight
00:39:28that illustrates
00:39:29Tio Fimo Lopez's
00:39:31defensive skills,
00:39:32Antonio.
00:39:33And here,
00:39:35we see Lopez
00:39:37on the ropes,
00:39:38but he's not
00:39:39covering up.
00:39:40He's moving,
00:39:41making a miss
00:39:42with every punch,
00:39:42and he have a right
00:39:43to counter as well.
00:39:45So that's great
00:39:45boxing ability
00:39:46right there.
00:39:47And we didn't see that
00:39:48in Tio Fimo's
00:39:49last few fights.
00:39:51And when you swing
00:39:51hard and miss,
00:39:53you lose some
00:39:53of your energy.
00:39:54You're zapped a little
00:39:55bit by that, right?
00:39:56Every time.
00:39:57You expand yourself.
00:40:01Seconds up!
00:40:02Let's go, coach.
00:40:03So great defensive fighters
00:40:04over the course
00:40:05of 12 rounds
00:40:06can wear the opponent
00:40:07down simply
00:40:08by making the miss.
00:40:09Most definitely.
00:40:11Who did that to you?
00:40:12Anybody?
00:40:14Man, by making me miss,
00:40:18I didn't hit Eric Harden
00:40:19like I wanted to.
00:40:22And Bernard got away.
00:40:23You know,
00:40:23those are the two
00:40:24I wish I had back.
00:40:25Bernard is impossible,
00:40:27let's face it.
00:40:28I think it's important
00:40:29to note here, too,
00:40:30so many critics
00:40:31have called for Tio
00:40:32to get a new trainer
00:40:33and eliminate his dad
00:40:34from the corner.
00:40:35And he's doing great
00:40:37right now,
00:40:37and I think his dad
00:40:38is giving some sound advice.
00:40:39Really good advice
00:40:40between the rounds.
00:40:41Really good advice.
00:40:42Well, there are,
00:40:45over the long history
00:40:46of the sport,
00:40:47you can find many instances
00:40:49that demonstrate
00:40:50the pluses and the minuses
00:40:51of being trained
00:40:53by your father.
00:40:54It has to be
00:40:55an intelligent,
00:40:56balanced,
00:40:57rational relationship.
00:40:58and right now,
00:41:00it looks as though
00:41:01Tio Fimo Lopez
00:41:02has the right trainer.
00:41:03Right, Mike Coppinger?
00:41:05Absolutely.
00:41:06I mean,
00:41:07Tio Fimo Lopez,
00:41:08his father knows him best,
00:41:10and you've heard him say it before,
00:41:12he's in a rhythm,
00:41:13and he is certainly
00:41:13a rhythm fighter.
00:41:15And when you're fighting
00:41:16your rhythm, man,
00:41:16you've got to make sure
00:41:17that you keep those feet moving,
00:41:19you keep those hands moving,
00:41:21and you keep that head moving.
00:41:24You've got to move the Tio.
00:41:25I'm pushing him.
00:41:35If you were going to find
00:41:36Barbosa in terms like that,
00:41:38you might say
00:41:39he's more of an effort
00:41:40and determination fighter
00:41:41than a rhythm fighter.
00:41:43He's trying to bring
00:41:45everything he can
00:41:46to every moment in the ring,
00:41:48even if the opponent
00:41:49may have more natural talent.
00:41:51Barbosa has beaten guys
00:41:52who have more natural talent.
00:41:55But it's the movement.
00:41:56It's the movement.
00:41:57He's not staying still long enough.
00:41:59You know, every time
00:42:00he gets set to throw,
00:42:02Tio is gone.
00:42:03Or he's throwing a jab.
00:42:04He has to reset.
00:42:06And once again,
00:42:07Tio Fimo Lopez
00:42:08is a guy that has to get up
00:42:09for fights.
00:42:10He's up and down,
00:42:11but when he's been down,
00:42:12it's been when he's been
00:42:13a massive favorite.
00:42:14And in this fight,
00:42:15he's only a slight favorite.
00:42:16He's fighting in Times Square.
00:42:20He's having a good night tonight.
00:42:23Good body shot.
00:42:25This is kind of hard
00:42:28to read, Tio,
00:42:29yesterday at press day
00:42:30because he had a mask on
00:42:32and he kept the mask on
00:42:33during the entire day.
00:42:35So I'm interviewing him,
00:42:36but I can't see his eyes.
00:42:37You know?
00:42:38And you want to look
00:42:40into a fighter's eyes,
00:42:42particularly 24 hours
00:42:43before the fight.
00:42:45Yeah, and also, Jim,
00:42:46that was the first face-off
00:42:47they did all fight week
00:42:49at the weigh-in yesterday.
00:42:50Tio Fimo slapped Barboza
00:42:52across the face
00:42:52a couple of months ago
00:42:53in Los Angeles.
00:43:01Ten seconds, gentlemen.
00:43:07Solid right-hand lead
00:43:08by Tio Fimo Lopez.
00:43:11Ha!
00:43:11He's shown us
00:43:11every punch
00:43:12in the toolkit
00:43:13and all of them
00:43:16have been effective
00:43:16here tonight.
00:43:18Okay, listen.
00:43:19Give me that towel.
00:43:20Did I get in?
00:43:21Yeah, go ahead.
00:43:25Okay, now it's time
00:43:26for you to go.
00:43:28Hey, just...
00:43:29Yo, it's 8-0.
00:43:31Okay?
00:43:31Okay?
00:43:32Be careful.
00:43:33Just keep on using your jab
00:43:35and let's start fucking
00:43:36fucking this dude up.
00:43:38Don't miss with the right.
00:43:39Go on top.
00:43:41Don't let him guess,
00:43:44but keep on using your jab
00:43:45to block his high side
00:43:48and then shift in
00:43:49with the right.
00:43:51We got this guy.
00:43:52He's done the one.
00:43:53Just turn on the juice.
00:43:54Bro, you can fucking
00:43:54just turn on the juice
00:43:55and fucking kill him.
00:43:59We got four rounds, right?
00:44:03Use that jab.
00:44:06Come on, fellas.
00:44:11Come on, fellas.
00:44:14As...
00:44:15the late rounds arrive.
00:44:21Round 9 of Schedule 12.
00:44:24Tifimo Lopez,
00:44:26for the moment,
00:44:27seemingly cruising
00:44:27toward a decision win
00:44:29over Arnold Barbosa.
00:44:31Only thing I would ask
00:44:32that T.O. do
00:44:33is tighten up
00:44:34that right hand.
00:44:34Every time he throws
00:44:35that right hand,
00:44:36he brings the right foot
00:44:37up with it.
00:44:38That's a cardinal sin.
00:44:39How you're going to be able
00:44:40to create the power
00:44:42you're going to need.
00:44:45Sitting at ringside,
00:44:47and you can see
00:44:47the red striped shirt
00:44:48behind the referee
00:44:49up on the apron
00:44:51of the ring.
00:44:52That is arguably
00:44:53the greatest sports
00:44:55still photographer
00:44:56in the history
00:44:57of that crack.
00:44:58That is Neil Leifert,
00:44:59longtime chief photographer
00:45:01for Sports Illustrated,
00:45:03and he's been distributed
00:45:05in a lot of other
00:45:06magazines and publications,
00:45:08and he is the author
00:45:10of one of the most famous,
00:45:12if not the most famous,
00:45:14boxing photographs ever.
00:45:16Muhammad Ali standing
00:45:18over the body
00:45:19of Sonny Liston
00:45:20in Lewiston, Maine
00:45:21with his right arm
00:45:22cocked in a defiant pose.
00:45:26A dramatic and spectacular
00:45:28photo,
00:45:30and typical of the kind
00:45:31of work that Leifert
00:45:32has been able to do
00:45:34over the decades.
00:45:35It's amazing
00:45:36to still see him here
00:45:38in this position
00:45:39after everything
00:45:40he has accomplished.
00:45:42Nice combination by Tio.
00:45:43Look like he's trying
00:45:44to close the show.
00:45:46But he got to get
00:45:47his hands up.
00:45:48Boboza.
00:45:52He's still punching with power.
00:45:54Nice work.
00:46:08This is certainly
00:46:09the best Tio Fimo
00:46:10we've seen in some time,
00:46:11certainly since
00:46:12the Josh Taylor fight.
00:46:14If he go on
00:46:15to win this fight
00:46:15and continue
00:46:16to look this impressive,
00:46:18who can we see him
00:46:19in there next with?
00:46:20We got four or five guys
00:46:21on this card.
00:46:22Tio Fimo Lopez,
00:46:23believe it or not,
00:46:24he is calling for a shot
00:46:25at Boots Ennis.
00:46:26Stop!
00:46:26That's a fight he wants.
00:46:27He wants to go up
00:46:28to welterweight
00:46:29to fight the best
00:46:29at 147.
00:46:31And that fight's
00:46:32in the works.
00:46:33It's not done,
00:46:33but it's a very big
00:46:34possibility, Jim.
00:46:35And that shows you
00:46:36a lot about who
00:46:37Tio Fimo Lopez is
00:46:38because I only heard
00:46:39him call out two guys.
00:46:41Terrence Crawford
00:46:42and Boots Ennis.
00:46:45And there aren't
00:46:46that many people
00:46:47who are running
00:46:47to fight either
00:46:48Terrence Crawford
00:46:49or Boots Ennis
00:46:50for a lot of
00:46:51good reasons.
00:47:01Antonio,
00:47:02what kind of shot
00:47:02would you give
00:47:03Tio against Boots?
00:47:05Oh, man.
00:47:06Well, you know,
00:47:07Boots is not that
00:47:08strong of a fighter
00:47:09like Crohnford
00:47:10at 47.
00:47:12I'm not sure.
00:47:13That would be
00:47:13a hell of a fight,
00:47:14though.
00:47:15Talent-wise,
00:47:16skill-wise.
00:47:16One more quick shot
00:47:18of Neil Leifert
00:47:19for me to butt
00:47:20in the story.
00:47:21He, along with
00:47:22a colleague at
00:47:23Sports Illustrated
00:47:23named Heinz Klutmeier,
00:47:25were the two top
00:47:26sports photographers
00:47:27in the world
00:47:28when I entered
00:47:29network television
00:47:30in 1974.
00:47:32That was 51 years ago.
00:47:35And here he is,
00:47:36still plying his craft,
00:47:38an amazing human being.
00:47:39And now,
00:47:42Antonio,
00:47:42let's take a look
00:47:44at some of
00:47:44Tio Pimo's success
00:47:45here in the ring
00:47:46tonight.
00:47:47Okay.
00:47:48It's that jab.
00:47:48He's right-hand.
00:47:50Solid.
00:47:53Another right.
00:47:54He's just working.
00:47:56Throw that body shot
00:47:58right there.
00:47:59Very impressive.
00:48:00Very effective.
00:48:01Let's go,
00:48:03let's go, coach.
00:48:05I still can't imagine
00:48:06how he lost
00:48:06to George Cambosa.
00:48:08Maybe I just don't know
00:48:09enough about Cambosa.
00:48:10Let's go,
00:48:10let's go.
00:48:11But, you know,
00:48:11it's one of those results
00:48:13that shocks me
00:48:14even now,
00:48:15years later.
00:48:17Because you see
00:48:17the amazing talent
00:48:20that this guy has.
00:48:22Yeah,
00:48:22by all counts,
00:48:23Jim,
00:48:23Tio had a bad
00:48:24training camp
00:48:25for that fight.
00:48:25Didn't take it seriously.
00:48:27And,
00:48:28I want to give him credit,
00:48:29he dropped
00:48:29Cambosa's lane
00:48:31in that fight.
00:48:32Yeah,
00:48:33he did drop him,
00:48:33but Cambosa's
00:48:35a talent as well.
00:48:36He's a guy,
00:48:36champion,
00:48:37he's fought
00:48:38some big names.
00:48:39He's not chopped liver,
00:48:40he's a talent.
00:48:43Well said.
00:48:46Barbosa trying
00:48:47to get inside,
00:48:48make something happen
00:48:49against Teofimo Lopez.
00:48:51Jim,
00:48:52I think Barbosa's
00:48:53best chance
00:48:53is just to exchange,
00:48:56you know,
00:48:56catch Teo out there
00:48:57reaching while he's
00:48:58coming in,
00:48:59just like they,
00:49:00when he landed
00:49:00that first effective
00:49:01shot he hit him
00:49:02with and cut his eye.
00:49:03He needed to exchange
00:49:04with.
00:49:04Barbosa has a proven
00:49:05chin.
00:49:06It's probably the right
00:49:07strategy for him
00:49:08to attempt.
00:49:10Let it rip.
00:49:15Now we're in round
00:49:1610 of a scheduled
00:49:1612,
00:49:17so the minutes
00:49:18are running short.
00:49:20Arnold Barbosa,
00:49:22unless we are
00:49:23completely blind,
00:49:24behind on the
00:49:25scorecards at this
00:49:26point.
00:49:26Yeah,
00:49:27I've only given Barbosa
00:49:28one round,
00:49:29that eighth round
00:49:30when he landed
00:49:30that big right hand,
00:49:31and he's not known
00:49:32for his power,
00:49:33but he did hurt Teo
00:49:34once already,
00:49:35so I think he has
00:49:36to be more aggressive.
00:49:37Hurt him with a
00:49:37counter right hand,
00:49:39so the best possible
00:49:40choice here would seem
00:49:41to be to mix up
00:49:42his punches,
00:49:43invite action in return,
00:49:45try to land another
00:49:46counter.
00:49:46I think so,
00:49:47we're in the 10th round
00:49:49with the championship
00:49:50rounds,
00:49:51you know,
00:49:51upon us,
00:49:52yeah,
00:49:52he's gonna have to
00:49:53get a knockdown
00:49:54or hurt Teo
00:49:55some kind of way.
00:49:56And he doesn't seem
00:49:57likely to get it
00:49:58by attacking.
00:49:59He's straightforward
00:50:00and somewhat
00:50:02mechanical in his
00:50:03approach to attacking,
00:50:05and Teofield's
00:50:05feel can see it coming.
00:50:07Yeah,
00:50:08I mean,
00:50:08Teofield's reflexes
00:50:09are incredibly fast,
00:50:10and I think that's
00:50:11been the difference
00:50:12in this fight.
00:50:13Speed.
00:50:14Teo's able to get in
00:50:15and get out.
00:50:25It's a good fight.
00:50:27They aren't
00:50:27lopsided grounds,
00:50:29but at the end
00:50:29of the day,
00:50:30they are rounds
00:50:31that Teofield's
00:50:32winning,
00:50:32or so it seems
00:50:33to us.
00:50:34Yeah,
00:50:35well said,
00:50:35Jim.
00:50:35I think this is
00:50:36definitely a competitive
00:50:37fight,
00:50:37competitive rounds,
00:50:39and while I don't
00:50:40want to give
00:50:40Barbosa one,
00:50:41maybe the judges
00:50:42are giving him
00:50:42more credit.
00:50:43We'll see,
00:50:44but at the end
00:50:45of the day,
00:50:45it's almost
00:50:45impossible to
00:50:46imagine Barbosa
00:50:47winning a scorecard.
00:50:49This Teofield mode
00:50:50is looking spectacular
00:50:52here tonight.
00:50:54I'll say he'd need
00:50:54a knockout,
00:50:55at least a knockdown,
00:50:57to pull close
00:50:57to this fight.
00:50:59He's going to need
00:51:00something big.
00:51:01Ten seconds,
00:51:02gentlemen.
00:51:02it's time.
00:51:03Let's listen to Barbosa's
00:51:14corner to see what
00:51:15strategy they might be
00:51:17cooking up for the last
00:51:18two rounds.
00:51:18and then you've got to
00:51:19pat over.
00:51:20Okay?
00:51:20Let's go.
00:51:21Same thing,
00:51:22okay?
00:51:22We've got two more
00:51:22rounds.
00:51:23Yep, let's go.
00:51:23Okay?
00:51:24Let's go.
00:51:29He's already
00:51:30frustrated,
00:51:30son,
00:51:30and he's done,
00:51:31okay?
00:51:31Same thing,
00:51:33okay?
00:51:33Be smart.
00:51:34Right here.
00:51:35Hey,
00:51:35get him here,
00:51:35and if he's there,
00:51:36switch it here
00:51:37and over the top,
00:51:38and then take
00:51:38that little step
00:51:39back, okay?
00:51:40Very good.
00:51:40When he's inside?
00:51:41Huh?
00:51:42When he's inside,
00:51:42bye-bye.
00:51:43When you've got him
00:51:43close in the ropes.
00:51:44Okay.
00:51:45And even if you've got
00:51:46him here,
00:51:46even if you've got him
00:51:49in the center,
00:51:50constantly,
00:51:51with the hands up
00:51:52nice and tight,
00:51:52okay?
00:51:54Got two more rounds,
00:51:55okay?
00:51:56Yep.
00:51:56One round at a time.
00:52:01Both fighters
00:52:01trained by their fathers.
00:52:03You heard Arnold Barbosa,
00:52:05Sr., telling his son
00:52:06what he wants him to do
00:52:08the last two rounds.
00:52:09Let's once again
00:52:10check in.
00:52:10With the one-time
00:52:11heavyweight champion
00:52:12of the world,
00:52:13Mike Tyson.
00:52:13Mike,
00:52:14you've heard our call
00:52:15of the fight so far.
00:52:16Are you in agreement
00:52:17with us?
00:52:18It's a shutout,
00:52:19I think.
00:52:21And he's been
00:52:22looking magnificent.
00:52:23I've never seen him
00:52:23look like this before
00:52:24at the Fimo.
00:52:26Really?
00:52:26You've never seen him
00:52:27look this way before?
00:52:28No,
00:52:29he's been proved.
00:52:30He's been proved
00:52:30at the final.
00:52:32Quite a compliment.
00:52:33Bad hands.
00:52:34Bad hands.
00:52:34Hey, look at him.
00:52:38He's starting to connect now.
00:52:40That's the first time
00:52:40the right hand
00:52:41really hit solid like that.
00:52:43He's been throwing it
00:52:44all night, though.
00:52:49And don't forget, right,
00:52:50we have Ryan Garcia
00:52:51and Devin Haney
00:52:52both fighting after this.
00:52:53I certainly think
00:52:54that motivated
00:52:55at the Fimo
00:52:55to be at his best.
00:52:56Man, listen,
00:52:57these guys are all
00:52:58going to have to
00:52:58show off tonight
00:52:59because this is
00:53:00the show that you're doing.
00:53:02All the big shots
00:53:03on him tonight.
00:53:05And they're division.
00:53:10Push his head down.
00:53:11Barboza is at
00:53:12a talent disadvantage
00:53:13against the Fimo, Mike.
00:53:15That's clear.
00:53:17And Barboza
00:53:17just don't know
00:53:18what to do
00:53:18with T.O.
00:53:19doing that
00:53:20in front of him.
00:53:20He has no answers.
00:53:23He needs to sell out.
00:53:26But
00:53:27selling out
00:53:29is dangerous.
00:53:30And his father
00:53:31told him
00:53:32he wants him
00:53:32to finish the fight.
00:53:34When Tia looks
00:53:35this good,
00:53:36I don't know
00:53:36if there's anybody
00:53:37that can beat him.
00:53:38Certainly can't
00:53:39count him out.
00:53:41Ooh,
00:53:42the Ali shuffle.
00:53:43Ryan Garcia.
00:53:47I think that's
00:53:48a coin flip
00:53:48at best.
00:53:49Really?
00:53:50I don't think
00:53:51Ryan is active
00:53:52with his punches enough.
00:53:53I don't think
00:53:54he has enough of that
00:53:55to stop Tia Fimo
00:53:57from what I'm seeing tonight.
00:53:58I agree.
00:53:59Ryan Garcia
00:53:59has tremendous qualities
00:54:01in some ways,
00:54:02but I don't think
00:54:02he has as well-rounded
00:54:04a boxing game
00:54:05as Tia Fimo Lopez.
00:54:06And the one thing
00:54:07that he can win
00:54:08a fight
00:54:09against Tia Fimo
00:54:10is his power.
00:54:11What about
00:54:15Devin Haney?
00:54:15Would he have a chance?
00:54:17Now,
00:54:17that would be
00:54:18a good chess match.
00:54:19But again,
00:54:21power I think
00:54:22would be
00:54:22in Tia Fimo's favor.
00:54:24So it looks
00:54:24tonight.
00:54:25Yep.
00:54:28Yeah,
00:54:28stylistically,
00:54:29I think Haney's
00:54:30a tougher fight
00:54:30for Tia
00:54:31than Ryan Garcia.
00:54:32But we're gonna have
00:54:33to see how Haney
00:54:33looks coming up
00:54:34here next
00:54:35against Jose Ramirez.
00:54:36Hell of a fight.
00:54:38How much was
00:54:39taken away
00:54:40from Devin Haney
00:54:41by his
00:54:41disastrous experience
00:54:43one year ago
00:54:44against Ryan Garcia?
00:54:45That's part of
00:54:46what we'll be
00:54:46looking to see
00:54:47in the next
00:54:48main event
00:54:49on the card.
00:54:51Jim,
00:54:51you probably
00:54:52know more than me.
00:54:53Has it ever been
00:54:54a three-day span
00:54:55where we had
00:54:56this much talent,
00:54:58stars,
00:54:59and boxing champions
00:55:00around the world?
00:55:01You probably might.
00:55:02You probably have to
00:55:02go back to the 1950s
00:55:04and go to the time
00:55:07when Sugar Ray Robinson
00:55:08was fighting
00:55:09top opponents
00:55:09and fighters
00:55:11from the Caribbean
00:55:12were coming up
00:55:13like Emil Griffith
00:55:14and fighters of that.
00:55:16You probably have to
00:55:17go back to the
00:55:18Gillette Friday night
00:55:19fights,
00:55:19Don Don Fierre of the
00:55:2050s,
00:55:21to find this much
00:55:22quality in this
00:55:23short a period of time.
00:55:24So if I said
00:55:25this is the Super Bowl
00:55:26weekend of boxing,
00:55:27would you agree?
00:55:29Pretty much the Super Bowl
00:55:30weekend of boxing
00:55:31because we have
00:55:31the Super Bowl setting
00:55:32right here in Times Square.
00:55:34And by the way,
00:55:35last weekend,
00:55:36Ben versus
00:55:37Ubeck.
00:55:39Yes.
00:55:39So in two weeks
00:55:41in a row.
00:55:41Take a look
00:55:42at the scorecard
00:55:42to this point
00:55:44in the fight.
00:55:48Mike Coppenter,
00:55:49you have your score
00:55:51to this point?
00:55:53Yes, Jim.
00:55:53I've only given Barbosa
00:55:54one round.
00:55:55I have Tia Fimo
00:55:56up big.
00:55:57And Barbosa certainly,
00:55:58in my opinion,
00:55:59needs a knockout.
00:56:00Not just knockdowns.
00:56:02What do you think?
00:56:03Tia Fimo's gonna come
00:56:04to try to finish the show
00:56:05or is a decision
00:56:06good enough for him tonight?
00:56:07I absolutely think
00:56:08Tia Fimo's coming
00:56:09to close the show.
00:56:10That's the kind of
00:56:11fighter Tia is.
00:56:12And you see the look
00:56:13in his eyes now.
00:56:14Let's go.
00:56:15I agree.
00:56:17I think Tia Fimo
00:56:18is a showman
00:56:19and I think that he might
00:56:20take a risk or two.
00:56:22Nothing irrational.
00:56:23But press forward
00:56:25a little bit
00:56:25in this round
00:56:26to see if he can get
00:56:27a KO.
00:56:29That would be nice.
00:56:30He's landed
00:56:31a couple of big shots.
00:56:33Barbosa has shown
00:56:34a good chin.
00:56:35I mean, Tia's just doing
00:56:44whatever he wants
00:56:46in there.
00:56:46You see him turning,
00:56:47Barbosa,
00:56:48going to the body,
00:56:49the punch variety.
00:56:51That would be a quick, man.
00:56:54Beautiful display
00:56:56of boxing.
00:56:59Footwork.
00:57:01Really brilliant footwork
00:57:02here tonight
00:57:03by Tia Fimo.
00:57:04He has skills
00:57:06in that area
00:57:07that most fighters
00:57:09will never match.
00:57:12I think one of the best
00:57:14things Tia's doing tonight
00:57:15is that he's not staying
00:57:17in there too long.
00:57:17He's getting in
00:57:18and he's getting right out.
00:57:20Barbosa landed
00:57:21a right hand.
00:57:24His rhythm,
00:57:25his rhythm tonight
00:57:26is on another level, man.
00:57:27Like I said,
00:57:28this is the best Tio
00:57:29I've seen.
00:57:30And I saw that
00:57:30Claggett fight live.
00:57:32And I didn't know
00:57:33what Tio
00:57:34we would see tonight.
00:57:35But I'm so glad
00:57:35he showed up
00:57:36and showed out.
00:57:37Well,
00:57:37it's like it was
00:57:38an opponent
00:57:38who came right in.
00:57:39Don't do that.
00:57:40Don't do that.
00:57:41You all right?
00:57:41You all right?
00:57:42Let's go.
00:57:44And I want to say,
00:57:45I don't think Barbosa
00:57:46is fighting a bad fight.
00:57:47I just think he's in there
00:57:48with somebody
00:57:49that's so much more talented
00:57:50and fast
00:57:51and stylistically wrong
00:57:52for him.
00:57:53And Tio came to fight tonight.
00:57:55He came to show up.
00:57:56Like I said,
00:57:57he's at his best.
00:58:01I have to assume
00:58:02that a lot of Tio's friends
00:58:03and perhaps family members
00:58:05are in the audience.
00:58:07Arnold Barbosa
00:58:07is from a long way away
00:58:09in California.
00:58:14And there is motivation
00:58:15in knowing who's in the crowd.
00:58:20Tio taking chances right now.
00:58:22You just saw Barbosa landing
00:58:23with a couple good shots.
00:58:25Tio is thinking knockout.
00:58:28But increasingly,
00:58:30it appears he's not going to get it.
00:58:31That was a terrific body shot.
00:58:33With the left hand
00:58:35underneath the ribcage.
00:58:37There's the left hand upstairs.
00:58:39Tio showing you
00:58:40all his skills
00:58:41in this 12th round.
00:58:44They really exchanging
00:58:46in the 12th round, man.
00:58:47Tio still trying to put
00:58:48the exclamation point
00:58:49on this fight.
00:58:53But he has swaggering confidence
00:58:55as he goes through the round.
00:58:57He knows that he's probably
00:58:59well ahead in the fight.
00:59:00He's landing the shots.
00:59:01He wants to land.
00:59:03He's going to walk away
00:59:04with a decision win
00:59:05and that's fine.
00:59:06Arnold Barbosa
00:59:07is a tough out.
00:59:11Time!
00:59:13Good job!
00:59:13We need to get a win
00:59:16over an unbeaten fighter
00:59:17in this setting.
00:59:18You have to be
00:59:19very satisfied with it.
00:59:21And I think
00:59:21Teofimo Lopez
00:59:22is up for a celebration.
00:59:29Well, the boxing
00:59:30keeps on coming
00:59:30on DAZN
00:59:31in another exciting fight
00:59:32that was just announced.
00:59:33Pound for Pound great
00:59:34and WBC World
00:59:35Superflyweight Champion
00:59:36Jesse Bam Rodriguez
00:59:38is set to collide
00:59:39with a newly crowned
00:59:41WBO titleist
00:59:42Fumalei Lecafu
00:59:42in Dallas, Texas.
00:59:53All right, Antonio,
00:59:55let's take a look
00:59:55at the highlights
00:59:56from Teofimo Lopez
00:59:58against Arnold Barbosa.
01:00:00It seems to have been
01:00:01a showcase for Lopez
01:00:03and his natural talent
01:00:04and consummate
01:00:05multiple skills.
01:00:07Yeah, I thought
01:00:08Arnold Barbosa
01:00:08would come out
01:00:09and be able to control
01:00:10the distance
01:00:11in the center of the ring
01:00:12but that wasn't the case.
01:00:13Even though he had
01:00:14his moments,
01:00:15it seemed like
01:00:15Teofimo Lopez
01:00:17was just one or two
01:00:18steps ahead
01:00:19all night long.
01:00:20Man, he gave us defense.
01:00:22He showed us footwork.
01:00:23He really showed us
01:00:25why he's one of the
01:00:26best fighters in the world,
01:00:27Teofimo Lopez.
01:00:28It was a homecoming
01:00:29tonight and he took
01:00:31care of business.
01:00:32I believe
01:00:32emphatically
01:00:33by beating
01:00:34an undefeated
01:00:3538-0 opponent
01:00:37tonight in Honorable
01:00:38Barbosa.
01:00:39This highlight package
01:00:41began with Barbosa's
01:00:42best punch
01:00:43of the fight.
01:00:44A counter right hand
01:00:45which has left the mark
01:00:46under Teofimo's
01:00:48left eye.
01:00:49That's the only trophy
01:00:50it appears from here
01:00:51that Barbosa
01:00:52is going to be
01:00:53taking home.
01:00:54Teofimo
01:00:54throwing 147
01:00:56more punches,
01:00:57landing 56
01:00:58more punches,
01:00:59jabs,
01:01:00throwing 137
01:01:03more
01:01:03and landing
01:01:0516 more
01:01:07power punches
01:01:09swarming and
01:01:11swapping on Barbosa
01:01:1272-32.
01:01:14Wow, what can you say?
01:01:16All those numbers tell you
01:01:17that he won the fight.
01:01:18Complete.
01:01:19Now let's go to
