Dharamshala (HP) July 05, 2025 | Union Minister Kiren Rijiju, during Dalai Lama's birthday eve celebrations in Dharamshala, Himachal Pradesh, emphasized that the Dalai Lama’s institution is purely religious and the Indian government believes in non-interference in religious matters. He wished the Dalai Lama a long life, highlighting that his health and wisdom are valuable to the global community. Rijiju refrained from commenting on China’s stance, leaving the matter to the Dalai Lama.On attending Dalai Lama's birthday eve celebrations, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju said, "Dalai Lama institution is purely religious and government of India believes there should be no interference in religious matters... I would like to wish His Holiness a long life... All his devotees desire to see him healthy so that the global community can benefit from his wisdom... I don't want to react on the Chinese statement, but we leave everything to His Holiness..."

00:10Dalai Lama institution is purely religious and I have come here as a devotee and it is a religious matter.
00:20And the government of India believes that there should be no interference into the religious matter,
00:28not only of the Dalai Lama institution or Buddhism, for all the religious institutions,
00:35they should be free from politics.
00:38So I have nothing to comment on the Chinese position.
00:43But on my own, I would like to wish His Holiness Dalai Lama a long life
00:49and continue to bless all of us, all his followers.
00:53His Holiness is the most loved personality and all his devotees desire to see him long life as well as healthy
01:08so that the global community can benefit from his wisdom.
01:13And the government of India will never interfere into religious matters,
01:23whether it is the Dalai Lama institution or any other religious institutions.
01:29And you believe that China should not interfere in such matters?
01:32I don't want to react because I am holding a senior minister position in the government of India.
01:40I don't want to react on the Chinese statement.
01:44But my position is very clear that we leave everything to His Holiness Dalai Lama for his guidance.
