Man charged over allegedly assaulting three police officers in Sydney's wesy

A teenager has been charged over the alleged assault of three police officers in Sydney's west. One officer was left unconscious for more than an hour, after attending a concern for welfare report, another officer was allegedly bit after the man was arrested.

00:00Well, we've been told that two female officers were called to a mental health incident in Bidwill in Sydney's West last night.

00:09They were told that a man had been seen lying in the middle of the road.

00:12When they arrived, that man was sitting on the side of the road.

00:15And as they got out of the car and approached him, he allegedly assaulted one of the officers,

00:20kicking and punching her and knocking her to the ground unconscious.

00:24The other officer, another female officer, then proceeded to try and arrest him.

00:28He also allegedly assaulted her during that arrest.

00:31While she waited for backup, the 23-year-old female officer lay unconscious on the ground.

00:38Another patrol car then arrived to see this officer laying unconscious on the ground

00:43and the other officer trying to subdue this man, not knowing what had happened.

00:47They were able to arrest the man using capsicum spray.

00:50And the officer was taken to hospital by ambulance.

00:54She remained unconscious for more than an hour, but is thankfully now stable.

00:58Two other officers were also treated for minor injuries and the man remains in custody.

01:04Police gave us an update a short time ago on the effect this has had on the officers.

01:10These types of incidents, we face them daily and police officers know the risks that are associated

01:15with being a police officer.

01:16But when things like this do occur, it's totally unacceptable and we have a tight-knit team here.

01:24The police force is a family.

01:25So the events of last night has affected the entire police force and in the community,

01:33Now the 19-year-old man who was arrested has since been released from hospital and is in custody.

01:42He's been charged with assaulting the officers and will face court tomorrow.
