00:00Long ago, in a tiny village named Makina, there lived a girl called Zuri, but Zuri was no ordinary girl, no, she was like thunder, in a silent sky, in Makina High, everyone, students, teachers, even the headmaster, trembled when they saw her, she was tall, broad-shouldered, and her face never knew a smile, if Zuri walked your way, you moved, if she sat by you, you dared not breathe loud, nobody wished to anger her,
00:27Zuri forgave nothing and forgot even less, she was older, too, while her classmates were 17, Zuri was already 21, she had repeated grades four times, but she did not care, they called her the mother of the school, an adult among children, but she behaved like a wild child, she came when she liked, slept through lessons, yawned in teachers' faces, not even the village elders could calm her, Zuri was a force no one could cage,
00:54While other students carried bags of books and dreams, Zuri carried only herself, and her thunder, they whispered she was cursed, even the headmaster, Mr. Baco, had given up trying to discipline her, leave her, he told the frightened staff, one day, she vanished on her own, but Zuri had no plans to vanish, in Makina High, everyone, knew, where Zuri went, chaos followed, yet no one knew how it all started,
01:20Years before she became a storm, Zuri was just another stubborn junior girl, back then, she argued with teachers, skipped lines, but she was not feared, then, came the day everything flipped, that morning, Zuri showed up late, chewing gum, as the sun baked the dusty schoolyard, she strolled through the gate like she owned the world, standing guard was Deo,
01:43A feared senior, broad-chested, famous for punishing anyone who crossed him, his eyes narrowed when he saw her, Deo's voice cut through the morning air like a knife, Zuri, why are you dragging your feet to my gate, Zuri popped her gum, eyes cold, she said nothing, Deo's nostrils flared, he had broken many, proud juniors before her, kneel down, he barked, swinging his cane in the air for all to see, Zuri didn't flinch,
02:09She blew another bubble, the pop echoing off the school walls, Deo's pride burned, no one ever disobeyed him, are you deaf, he hissed, stepping closer, he lifted the cane high, his friends watching, crack, the stick whipped across Zuri's back, the courtyard fell silent, some students turned away, afraid of what they knew, Deo struck her again, swoosh,
02:32You think you're special, he sneered, but a few brave whispers rose, Deo, leave her alone, a boy murmured, she's not like the rest, a girl warned, Deo laughed, let her try me, he made her cut grass under the cruel sun for hours, but Zuri's eyes only promised a storm, when the last bell rang,
02:52The other students scattered like startled birds, but Zuri stayed, she waited under an old mango tree near the school fence, arms folded, jaw set like stone, Deo swaggered out the gate, laughing with his crew,
03:04That stubborn girl learned today, he bragged, but as he stepped onto the dusty path, a shadow moved, before Deo could react, Zuri's hand, locked around his collar, she dragged him behind the fence, her eyes colder than the night wind, Zuri, what is this, S-M-A-C-K, her palm cracked against his cheek, a punch to the gut folded him like paper, Deo fell to the ground, coughing dust, Zuri climbed on top of him,
03:31Her fists landed like rain in a thunderstorm, punch after punch, kick after kick, Deo tried to crawl away, bad idea, she grabbed a handful of sand and shoved it in his mouth, swallow it, she hissed, that day, the king of Makina became nothing, the next morning Deo limped through the school gate, face swollen, eyes lowered, he said nothing, he did nothing, nobody else said a word either, they just stepped aside when Zuri passed, no senior, no teacher, no principal,
04:01Wanted her wrath, her reign of fear settled like harmattan dust, thick, dry, choking, weeks passed in uneasy silence until another storm gathered, it was a blistering afternoon, the sun heavy, like a curse, Zuri sat at the back of her class, legs stretched out, a big plate of jollof rice and fried chicken balanced on her lap, the spicy smell filled every corner,
04:24She chewed loudly, licking her fingers, daring anyone to speak, when the door creaked open, everyone held their breath, it was Mr. Musa, the calm history teacher, loved by all for his soft voice and gentle ways, he stopped, staring at Zuri, and her feast,
04:40Zuri, he said, trying to smile, can you, keep that for break time, Zuri didn't look up, Mr. Musa, cleared his throat, hoping kindness would melt Zuri's defiance, Zuri, please, he said gently, pack the food, class is about to begin,
04:55Zuri sucked the bone dry, wiped her mouth with her sleeve, and lifted her eyes cold, empty, like she was staring through him, then, without a word, she picked up a chicken bone, and flung it, the oily bone struck Mr. Musa's white shirt, staining it red and greasy, the class gasped,
05:13Nobody had ever seen this, Mr. Musa's eyes widened, his calm finally cracking, Zuri, he barked, voice trembling between anger and disbelief, come outside, now, Zuri rose slowly, her plate still in hand, the students thought she'd surrender, but instead, she walked to him, then tilted the entire plate over his head, rice, stew, bones, everything tumbled down his face,
05:38and dripped onto his shoulders, silence swallowed the room before a scream broke loose, Mr. Musa's eyes flamed, Zuri didn't flinch, stew dripped from Mr. Musa's hair down to his collar, the classroom was frozen, no one dared blink, then, something inside the calm teacher snapped, his hand rose, cutting the air slapped, his palm struck Zuri's cheek so hard, the sound echoed off the cracked walls,
06:03The students shrank into their seats, Zuri touched her face slowly, eyes, colder than death, don't do that again, she said, voice flat as a dead river, but Mr. Musa, humiliated, lifted his hand a second time, big mistake, before his palm could land, Zuri caught his wrist mid-air, a heartbeat later, bam, her fist smashed into his chest, she grabbed a wooden chair, crash, it slammed against his shoulder,
06:29sending him stumbling back, feet tangling under him, he hit the floor, groaning, Zuri pounced like a lion, punch after punch, kick after kick, the students fled the room in a panic, no one dared pull her off, Mr. Musa's blood stained the floor, by the time other teachers stormed in, Mr. Musa's white shirt was soaked in blood and stew, Zuri still sat on his back, fists clenched, chest heaving like a wild animal that refused to be caged,
06:55It took three teachers to drag her off him, they lifted Mr. Musa, his head lolled, eyes half shut, face swollen and red, they carried him out, while the students whispered in corners, too scared to speak her name out loud, for two days, Mr. Musa's chair in the staff room sat empty, his bicycle stayed parked outside his locked house, rumors spread like dry grass, some said he was still in the village clinic, too weak to stand, others claimed he had packed his bag, and run far away from the kitchen,
07:24A few swore they saw him boarding a bus to the city at dawn, leaving behind the girl who turned him into a ghost, but Zuri she sat at the back of her class as if nothing happened, chewing gum, eyes daring anyone to speak, by the third day, whispers filled every dusty hallway, teachers huddled in the staff room, voices low and heavy with fear,
07:43If she can beat a teacher, one muttered, who's next? Another wiped sweat from his brow, the headmaster, one of us, the chalk squeaked in empty classrooms, as students sat stiff eyes wide whenever Zuri strolled by, even headmaster Baco felt the heat of her shadow, he rubbed his forehead every night, replaying the same question, what do we do with her?
08:05Then came the morning when enough was enough, during assembly, headmaster Baco stepped onto the cracked cement stage, paper in hand, his voice thundered over the silent courtyard, Zuri, come forward, gasps rolled through the students, Zuri walked out of the line, chewing gum like nothing, mattered, she stood inches from him, face blank, Baco raised the paper high, an expulsion letter,
08:28You are no longer a student of this school, he declared, cheers rose from the students like sudden rain on dry soil, some clapped, others, whispered, finally, she's gone, even a few teachers managed shaky smiles, but Zuri only popped her gum, eyes locked on Baco like he was nothing but a fly buzzing in her ear, then she said it, calm, poisonous, come and take me out if you can, a hush dropped like a heavy stone, Baco's face turned red, number
08:57Student had ever spoken to him like that in thirty years, he stomped forward, fury trembling his old hands, leave now, he roared, Zuri, didn't flinch, he shoved her shoulder, spitting the words, get out of my school, you animal, wrong move, Zuri spun, her fist cracked into his nose, a sickening pop and a splash of blood, Baco stumbled back, teeth clenched in shock, Zuri wasn't done, she tore the expulsion letter into tiny pieces, tossed them at his face,
09:26Then, swung her foot crack, his jaw snapped, two teeth flew like seeds in the wind, asterisk
09:33Screams filled the assembly ground, students fled in every direction, some ducked behind dusty walls, others dashed through the broken gate, teachers froze like carved statues, afraid to move closer
09:46Headmaster Baco lay in the red dirt, groaning, blood dripping from his nose, to teeth missing like broken chalk, Zuri wiped her knuckles on her skirt, looked around at the stunned faces, and clicked her tongue
09:58Calm, calm, as a resting lion, she turned and walked away, leaving chaos swirling behind her
10:04That week, Makina High nearly fell apart, five teachers, resigned, handing in shaky letters with trembling hands, the headmaster spent nights in the clinic, cotton stuffed in his nose, mumbling Zuri's name like a ghost story, parents pulled children from classes, whispering she was a curse sent by spirits, yet Zuri strolled through it all, unbothered, unstoppable, but the staff had had enough, something had to break before she broke them all
10:31Early the next morning, four teachers gathered in the cramped, musty staff room, eyes heavy, shoulders tense, they were Makina High's strongest, Mr. Kola, the pay coach with arms like tree trunks, Mr. Sefu, the stern mathematics master who once fought off street thieves, Mr. Obi, the chemistry teacher who lifted water drums alone, and Mr. Faye, feared discipline master with a cane that made students tremble
10:56Today, Kola said, cracking his knuckles, we end this
11:00Four grown men, Obi scoffed, and one wild girl, let's see her roar now
11:05They grabbed thick canes, and marched to Zuri's classroom
11:09The moment the students saw them enter, they knew something brutal was about to happen
11:13Mr. Faye pointed at Zuri at the back, stand up, follow us now
11:18Zuri yawned, didn't move, she tore a page from her book, rolled it, and flipped it
11:23At Faye's chest, the room gasped, four men, one girl, a storm brewing
11:29Mr. Kola's face darkened, he barked at the class, everybody move back
11:34Desks scraped the floor as terrified students pressed themselves against cracked walls, eyes wide
11:40The four teachers surrounded Zuri like hunters cornering a lioness
11:44Mr. Sefu lunged first, grabbing her wrist
11:47Bad idea, B-A-M Zuri, twisted his arm backward, slammed her elbow into his ribs
11:53He doubled over, gasping
11:55Mr. Obi charged next, too late
11:57Zuri ripped a wooden desk from the floor, and swung it like a club crash
12:01It smashed Obi against the blackboard
12:04Chalk dust flew
12:05Mr. Kola and Mr. Faye exchanged one nervous glance, then pounced together
12:10Zuri ducked, kicked Kola's knee, cracked, he crumpled like a sack of yams
12:15Faye grabbed her from behind, but she bent forward, flipped him over her shoulder, and slammed him down
12:21Groans filled the room, four teachers, defeated on the dusty floor
12:25Zuri brushed her hands off, stepped back, and sat down, unbothered
12:29Of what happened spread through Makina like wildfire on dry grass
12:33That evening, elders whispered in trembling voices
12:36That girl is cursed
12:38She's not normal
12:39Nobody could believe one girl had fought for grown men, and one
12:43Even the students walked in tight groups now, glancing over shoulders when Zuri passed
12:48At home, villagers spoke in hushed tones by smoky lanterns
12:52But while everyone feared her fists, nobody asked what made them so strong
12:56Behind Zuri's iron eyes lay a secret Makina, dared not see
13:01Her house was no home, her father, a drunk, who staggered through alleys at night
13:05Spent his days cursing the sun, and the woman who bore Zuri
13:10Her mother, half ghost and half streetwalker, slipped through backyards in short skirts
13:15To beg men for coins
13:16Night after night, their shouting filled the tiny mud house
13:20Crashing plates, breaking chairs, blood on cracked floors
13:24Zuri learned to fight before she learned to dream
13:27When she was twelve, Zuri tried once to stop the madness
13:31One night, her father, drunk and reeking of cheap gin, slapped her mother so hard she hit the wall
13:37Zuri, small but fierce, grabbed his arm
13:40Baba, stop, she begged
13:42The man turned, eyes red, spit flying, and backhanded Zuri across the room
13:47She slammed into the table, pain exploding through her ribs
13:50That was the night something, inside her died, tears dried up and never returned
13:55From that day Zuri never begged again, never pleaded, never feared another human being
14:01If love could slap you, stab you, abandon you, then love was weakness
14:06Strength was her only truth
14:07At school, she brought the war from home into every cracked classroom
14:11She did not trust teachers, she did not respect rules
14:15She fought because fighting was all she knew
14:18And Makina blind and trembling
14:20Never asked who taught her how to roar
14:22They only feared her growl
14:24Makina village whispered her name like a curse
14:26But they never stepped inside her walls to see the battlefield she called home
14:30At school, they called her monster
14:32But at home, she was a survivor
14:34The fights made her bones iron
14:36The shouting made her throat sharp
14:38The scars taught her never to bow
14:41So every slap she gave a student
14:43Every punch she landed on a teacher
14:45Every chaos she scattered through Makina High
14:47It was her father's fists echoing in her memory
14:50Her mother's broken voice trapped in her chest
14:53She did not know how to love
14:55She only knew how to strike first
14:57Roar louder
14:58And break anything that threatened to break her
15:00And so, the school crawled around her like ants around a burning matchstick
15:04Praying she wouldn't notice them
15:06Wouldn't step too close
15:08But no storm stays caged forever
15:10Zuri's rage had scorched teachers and students alike
15:13Yet Makina's fear was about to summon something bigger than her fists
15:17Dot one dawn
15:18Makina High's cracked yard rumbled under boots heavier than fear
15:21Soldiers arrived
15:23Their uniforms
15:24Stiff eyes hidden behind dark sunglasses
15:26Voices sharp as machetes
15:28It was orientation day for the new corps members posted to the village school
15:33The headmaster hoped the sight of the army would scare Zuri into silence
15:37Among the fresh corps was Ao
15:39A young man with a soft smile and steady eyes who hadn't yet heard the full storm that was Zuri
15:44The students lined up in neat rows
15:47Teachers stood beside them
15:49Sweating under the rising sun
15:51The anthem began
15:52All stood straight
15:53All sang
15:54Except Zuri
15:55Who strolled in late
15:57Gum popping
15:57Arms swinging
15:58Her shadow cutting through the neat lines like a knife through palm fronds
16:02She did not look at the flag
16:04She did not stand still
16:05She just walked
16:06Daring the soldiers to notice
16:08One did
16:09A tall sergeant stepped forward
16:11Boots thudding
16:12You
16:13He barked
16:14Zuri's gum popped louder
16:15The sergeant's eyes locked onto
16:17Her like a hawk spotting prey
16:19His voice boomed
16:20Come here
16:21Zuri stopped
16:22Her gum loud in the sudden silence
16:25She tilted her head
16:26Smirked
16:27What now?
16:28She muttered
16:28The students trembled
16:30Didn't this girl know no fear?
16:32The sergeant
16:32Stepped closer
16:33Since you don't respect the anthem
16:35Recite it now
16:36A gasp rolled through the crowd like thunder
16:39Zuri
16:40Recite the anthem
16:41Impossible
16:42Zuri's face turned cold
16:44She hated commands
16:45Hated being told what to do
16:47I don't have time for this
16:48She spat
16:49Turning to walk away
16:50The sergeant's hand shot out
16:52Gripping her arm like iron
16:53Said
16:54Come here
16:55And just like that
16:56Something inside Zuri snapped
16:58Her rage
16:59Her scars
17:00Her storms
17:01All slammed into one open palm
17:04She raised her hand
17:05Slapped
17:05The sound cracked through the yard
17:07Like a branch splitting
17:08A soldier had been slapped
17:10Even Zuri felt it
17:12This was different
17:13This was a line crossed
17:15That fists alone could never fix
17:17The slap echoed like thunder
17:19Rolling across dry fields
17:21Students froze mid-breath
17:23Teachers shut their eyes
17:24Praying this was a nightmare
17:26Zuri lowered her hand
17:28Chest heaving
17:29Even she knew
17:30This was no teacher
17:31No principal
17:32This was a soldier
17:34And soldiers do not
17:35Forgive
17:36The sergeant didn't
17:37Shout
17:38He didn't touch
17:39His burning cheek
17:40He just clenched his fists
17:42His voice dropping to ice
17:43Take her to the barracks
17:45Two soldiers stepped forward
17:47Without a word
17:48Zuri struggled
17:49Kicked
17:49Spat curses that fell
17:51Like sparks on wet grass
17:52But boots don't flinch
17:54They dragged her out
17:55Of Makina High's cracked gates
17:56While students whispered
17:58Her name like a ghost story
17:59For the first time
18:00Zuri felt a flicker
18:01Of something she'd buried
18:03Long ago
18:03Fear
18:04She'd fought students
18:05Teachers
18:06The headmaster
18:07But this was different
18:08At the barracks
18:10Punishment waited
18:11Sharp
18:11Merciless
18:12Unstoppable
18:13And the lioness of Makina
18:15Was about to learn
18:16There were cages
18:16Even she could not break
18:18Dot at the barracks
18:19Zuri faced a punishment
18:21No classroom could hold back
18:22Lie down
18:23A soldier barked
18:25She refused
18:25Whip
18:26The sting of leather crack
18:27Across her back
18:29Gritting her teeth
18:30She obeyed
18:31Roll in the mud
18:32They forced her through
18:33Thick black sludge
18:34Cold and sharp
18:35With stones that scraped
18:36Her skin raw
18:37Crawl
18:38Under rusted barbed wire
18:39She dragged her bruised body
18:41Knees
18:42Bleeding
18:42Elbows cut
18:43Bags of sand
18:44Stacked on her head
18:45Squats
18:46Until her legs
18:47Burned like firewood
18:48Runs in tight circles
18:49Under the noon sun
18:51Until she collapsed
18:52Gasping for air
18:53Day one
18:54She cursed them
18:55Day two
18:55Her voice broke
18:56Day three
18:57Her body did too
18:58But just when her fire
19:00Flickered to embers
19:01Ayo stepped in
19:02The young corps member
19:04Knelt beside her
19:04Broken shape
19:05She's just a girl
19:07He pleaded
19:08Let her go
19:09I will watch her
19:10The commander's eyes narrowed
19:12If she breaks this
19:13Trust
19:13You pay with her
19:15And so the lioness
19:16Limped free
19:17But her roar
19:18Was different now
