00:00Meet the Curlews, a team of dads juggling work, family and a sport most Australians would be hard pressed to identify.
00:11Stumbling across the sport is probably a perfect description, we were flat out bambis on ice.
00:18The idea born from mateship and a long lunch.
00:22Thinking about what's a fun thing to do together, what's something interesting, I brought up curling.
00:27We obviously laughed and then we looked at his wife actually and she was like dead serious.
00:32And then we all knew he was serious, so we said yeah, why not.
00:36In just over a year they've gone from beginners to contenders.
00:40We're in our 40s, I'm not going to lie, age is against us, but curling is a sport that you can do until you're very old, provided our knees all hold up.
00:50A mixed bunch of dads who have gone out on a limb to have a crack at something that's quite unique.
00:56We have a very good group of supportive wives behind us and the curl is actually going from my wife.
01:01She said it's a loud, obnoxious bird and it works perfectly.
01:04With a team name and a training plan, the dads have an unshakable belief they can go all the way.
01:11After recently competing at nationals in New Zealand, the Olympics is firmly in their sights.
01:18I don't think it's out of the realms of possibility and that's our goal, that's what we will keep striving to do.
01:25And I think in four years time in France, we're going to give it a red hot shake.
01:29But the self-described larrikins are doing it their way.
01:33We have a lot of cricket terms to know where we put the rock and that works well for us.
01:38Do an offie, so off we go and we spin it the appropriate way.
01:42All right Thank you so much for joining us today.
01:54All right .
