00:00Security and defense. This was the expression used several times during the recent meeting
00:09between the Danish presidency of the European Union and the European Commission. Over the
00:14next six months, Copenhagen intends to drive forward the rearmament efforts of the 27-member
00:20bloc.
00:21If we are not willing to stand up for our continent, then who are we as Europeans? We need to rearm
00:30Europe by no later than 2030. And I look forward to the road map on how to achieve this objective
00:40so that we can develop common capabilities, scale up our defense industry, procure together
00:49and break down any barriers and obstacles in our way.
00:55Denmark believes that migration policy is also a question of security. According to the Danish
01:01Prime Minister, the European system is failing. For her part, the President of the Commission
01:08listed the points in the Pact on Migration and Asylum on which Denmark must make progress.
01:13The Pact for Migration and Asylum has to be implemented. But then we have the operational
01:18side. Under your presidency, we can make progress on our return proposal, on the safe third country's
01:25concept and the safe countries of origin.
01:28During its six-month presidency, Copenhagen also intends to consolidate the union's competitiveness
01:33crisis in the face of trade turbulence. Russian aggression, Donald Trump's tariffs, Chinese
01:39overcapacity, fierce global competition, the climate crisis. The Danish presidency of the EU
01:45Council begins amid challenges that are formidable and unpredictable. Denmark has the hard task of
01:52keeping the 27 member states united to build a common front. But as geopolitics turn more and more
01:59explosive, the fracture lines between the capitals only deepen. Jorge Liboreiro, Euronews, Aarhus.
