Daniel Wales looks at the latest Leeds United transfer news.
Transcript
00:00Now for Leeds United, obviously back in the Premier League, promoted as champions of the championship as well.
00:08And, you know, signings are already starting to make sure they are through the door and there has been a few outgoings as well.
00:15But they are linked with a number of targets, high sort of big names, you know, likes of Fulham's Rodrigo Munoz,
00:22obviously Jamie Vardy as well, briefly.
00:25But there's so much going on in terms of Leeds United because there is a real fine margin between getting promotion,
00:32being so good, being such a great goal-scoring giant in the second tier and then managing to actually stay up.
00:39They want to be the team and then the club that's most likely to break this curse of promoted teams going straight back down.
00:46It's obviously happened in the last two seasons.
00:48Can Leeds do it? Can Leeds break that sort of mould?
00:52This summer is going to have a massive impact on that.
00:54And Daniel Farker is going to have to plan for it to make sure they have the depth, they have the quality as well.
00:59That's the sort of key part, obviously.
01:02They've done loads of business across Germany and getting some players in there over the last few seasons with their links there.
01:10And, you know, Daniel Farker's got a massive, massive job on his hands to make sure that they are competitive in the Premier League.
01:16And, you know, the summer reinforcements are going to be hugely important towards that.
01:21Dan, our Yorkshire correspondent.
01:23Dan, just let us know where Leeds United are, how they are feeling, you know, in terms of confirmed signings, links, rumours and then departures as well.
01:31Because it's a massive summer window and one that they feel at Elland Road, they're going to have to get rights to remain in the Premier League.
01:39Well, Charles, after what was a bit of a quiet start to the transfer window, things are really heating up at Elland Road.
01:46Leeds have now made their third signing of the window in Sebastian Borno.
01:51And he joins Lukas Nemecha and, indeed, Jakar Biol at Elland Road.
01:57And, in fact, Nemecha and, indeed, Borno, they were teammates at Wolfsburg.
02:03And so both have left the German club to join Leeds United at Elland Road.
02:07So, certainly, they'll have some chemistry between them and know how each other play.
02:11Of course, Nemecha are forwards, whereas Borno is a defender.
02:15But, still, that will be good for Leeds United in terms of gelling them together as well as having someone else in the squad for each other before they then get to know the rest of their teammates in pre-season.
02:25So, Leeds United starting to make moves in the transfer market.
02:28And, of course, as I mentioned, Nayak and Biol also joining from Udinese.
02:32Certainly two very big defenders who have both made clear they enjoy the art of defending as well and love a bit of a tackle too.
02:38So, obviously, Leeds wanting to be big and wanting to be strong and physical, I think, as they approach the Premier League.
02:44Because they already have a lot of more, perhaps, nimble players who are technically gifted.
02:48They also want some players who actually are physical, big and strong and can simply win games by using that to their advantage as well as also having the technically gifted players to bounce off them as well.
03:02So, Leeds clearly employing that sort of strategy so far in this season's transfer market.
03:08Well, apart from that, Leeds perhaps need a bit more as well.
03:12I think they still probably need a bit more in the goal-scoring department.
03:15Of course, they've brought in Nemecha.
03:17You've got Joel Perrault as well.
03:19But, of course, Joel Perrault unproven in the Premier League, as is Nemecha to an extent, although he did play for Manchester City very briefly.
03:26So, he has perhaps more of an understanding of what things are like in the top flight of English football.
03:30But certainly for Perrault, things will be perhaps difficult.
03:34Bamford has played in the top flight, but is perhaps a little bit injury-prone as well.
03:38So, Leeds, I think, will be in the market still for more goals as well.
03:43And you'd have to think as well that Leeds also need full-back cover.
03:46Joel Perrault has left the club now as well.
03:51So, he will need replacing.
03:53So, I think more signings will certainly come in for Leeds.
03:55And I think they'll be targeting them right now as well.
03:57There's been this bit of an interesting dynamic at the moment, though, with Sunderland and Leeds United.
04:02Because, of course, Sunderland seems to also be going in for a lot of the similar targets that Leeds have been going in for as well.
04:07Including, of course, Habib Diara, who Sunderland won the war to sign over Leeds United.
04:12So, that's an interesting one that Leeds lost out on that target.
04:16But, of course, whether that actually bothers them and whether they were happy to concede that one to Sunderland.
04:21And they've got other targets in mind that remains to be seen.
04:24But, certainly, Leeds is a high-volved activity at the moment in the transfer market.
04:28They've made three permanent signings so far already.
04:32And they're gearing up for pre-season as well.
04:34And probably will want more as pre-season progresses as we get ever closer to the start of the new Premier League season.
04:39Which, of course, gets underway in mid-August.
04:42So, not very long to go now.
