Mel Stride has appeared to distance himself from Robert Jenrick, who earlier posted a video on social media claiming Rachel Reeves' career as chancellor was "dead". 00:06My priority here, and what I think Rob is also saying,

00:10is that the government has made the wrong choices.

00:13They've destroyed growth in our country, they've stoked up inflation,

00:17they've seen interest rates higher than they would otherwise be for longer,

00:20they're adding massively to our debt burden.

00:22They're now coming out with all these U-turns and unfunded commitments,

00:25and that is going to lead to, almost certainly, tax increases in the autumn,

00:30which hard-working people up and down the country are going to have to pay.
