00:00My name is Elizabeth Loftus, and it's L-O-F-T-U-S.

00:06I'm a professor of psychological science.

00:10I study memory, and I also occasionally consult or testify in court cases

00:16so they can make decisions based on good science and not misconceptions about science.

00:22A lot of those have been in criminal cases?

00:24Yes.

00:25You are a hired and extremely expensive gun.

00:28And I'd be saying the same thing if I were working for free.

00:37We know that people in general, jurors in particular, have some misconceptions about how memory works.

00:44What you saw and what I saw on the TV video was revolting.

00:49There has been mass media attention to this particular videotape.

00:52Does the research indicate that that, in fact, could change witnesses' perception?

00:56There's more to a case than just what the media is telling you.
