00:00The remand for three suspects linked to the murder of 20-year-old university student Manisha Priyet Kaur-Akhara in Cyberjaya has been extended by seven days until July 10th.
00:13Tension briefly flared at the Sepang magistrate's court on Thursday morning when a man, believed to be a family member of the victim, attempted to confront the suspects as they were being led out of the courtroom around 9.50 a.m.
00:27Meanwhile, M. Manoharan, the lawyer representing the main suspect, a 20-year-old man, revealed that his client works part-time as a security guard.
00:50He also criticised the police for publicly claiming that his client had malicious intent.
00:56Earlier this week, Selangor Police Chief Commissioner Datuk Hussain Omar Khan disclosed that one of the three female suspects is the victim's housemate.
01:06Investigations revealed that she had given her boyfriend, the main suspect, access to the hostel unit using an entry card and keys, as he had stayed there previously.
01:17On the night of the incident, the housemate was away in her hometown but again provided the boyfriend with access.
01:24Police believe he harboured ill intentions toward the victim and assaulted her with an object leading to her death.
01:30Commissioner Hussain said a pathology report found no signs of rape, but investigators are still probing the possibility of sexual assault.
01:39The motive for the murder remains under investigation.
01:42He added that the suspect stole the victim's ATM card, laptop and mobile phone and had withdrawn 200 ringgit from her account.
01:51Manisha Priyet, a Bachelor of Physiotherapy student from Kuching, Sarawak, was found dead in her Cyberjaya student hostel on June 25th.
