Sean “Diddy” Combs was acquitted of the most serious charges in his federal trial—sex trafficking and racketeering—but found guilty on two counts of transportation for prostitution under the Mann Act. While similar in nature, experts note the key legal difference is that trafficking requires proof of force, fraud, or coercion, while the Mann Act only requires proof of knowing interstate transport for illegal sex work. Each count carries a penalty of up to 10 years in prison.

Following the verdict, Cassie Ventura’s legal team issued a statement crediting her 2023 civil complaint as the catalyst for the criminal case and urged the court to deny Combs’ release before sentencing. The court ultimately agreed, denying bail and citing his continued danger to victims and disregard for the law. Combs is now set to remain in custody until sentencing, which is currently scheduled for October 3.

00:00Breaking news in the Sean Diddy Combs trial, the music mogul has just been acquitted of the most
00:04serious charges, including sex trafficking and racketeering, but the story is far from over.
00:10Now Cassie Ventura's legal team is speaking out, urging the judge to deny Combs' release ahead
00:15of sentencing. Here's what we know so far. According to multiple reports, Combs has been
00:21found guilty on two counts of transportation for prostitution under the Federal Man Act,
00:25but acquitted of the more serious charges of sex trafficking and racketeering conspiracy.
00:30Now online reactions are flooding in, with many asking, what's the difference? Because human
00:36trafficking involves prostitution at some level. But according to WKYT, while the two crimes may
00:42sound similar, and sometimes even overlap, there's a legal key difference. Sex trafficking involves
00:48force, fraud, or coercion, or a victim who's underage. While the transportation for prostitution
00:54charges, under the Man Act only takes proof that someone was knowingly transported across state
01:00lines for illegal sex work. So while the jury didn't find enough evidence for sex trafficking,
01:06and none of the victims were underage, they did find enough to convict Combs on the lesser but still
01:11serious prostitution charges, which could mean up to 10 years in prison per count. Following the
01:16conviction of Diddy, Cassandra Cassie Ventura's legal team issued a powerful statement reflecting on the
01:22impact of her decision to come forward. Attorney Douglas Wigger wrote in a statement obtained by
01:27People Magazine, quote, this entire criminal process started when our client Cassie Ventura
01:32had the courage to file her civil complaint in November 2023. The statement continued, although the
01:39jury did not find Combs guilty of sex trafficking Cassie beyond a reasonable doubt, she paved the way for
01:45a jury to find him guilty of transportation to engage in prostitution. Now both prosecutors and Cassie's legal team
01:51are pushing to keep Diddy in custody as he awaits sentencing, arguing that he possesses a potential
01:57danger to victims and the community. At the time of editing this video, CNN reports the court has
02:03officially denied bail, ruling that Combs poses a continued danger to victims and the community.
02:09The court also cited Combs' illegal conduct even after federal searches of his homes, saying it showed a
02:14clear disregard for the rule of law. A sentencing date is currently set for October 3rd at 10 a.m.
02:20Eastern, but the court says it's open to move it earlier at the defense's request.
