00:00Hey friends, I'm Stacey and this is Gorgeously Aging. For those of you brand new, a special
00:09welcome and if you've been with me for a while, sending you all virtual hugs. So today we are
00:14talking about Botox as we age and maybe how our Botox should change as we age. As a master in
00:20medical esthetician with tons of advanced education in facial rejuvenation, including Botox,
00:25there are some things that I definitely would consider if you are over 40 and you are getting
00:30Botox. Some of these could just be food for thought for down the road and some of these things may make
00:35you think twice the next time you head to a med spa. One of the traps that we get into when we're
00:40having Botox is that we have a limited budget. At least most of us have a limited budget. And so
00:46when we first start getting Botox, most people start in the forehead and in the 11s area. This
00:52is the procerus and the corrugator muscles. Often the first place people treat are these 11s and in
00:58the forehead. And in my case, I have a very large forehead or frontalis muscle. The problem with
01:04treating the forehead muscle is that it's an elevating muscle. So it lifts up the eyebrows.
01:10I'm about three months out from having Botox treatment. And so I'm definitely in need. And this
01:16is why I wanted to do this video today. Now I won't be doing any injections today. We're just talking
01:21about facial anatomy and maybe what you consider doing differently in future treatments. You'll see
01:27a lot of injectors online saying that once you're over 40, you should not treat the forehead because
01:32it can make the brows drop. Now in some ways, this is true. But in my experience, if I don't treat the
01:39forehead, it gets very deep etched in horizontal lines through that really big frontalis muscle. In my case,
01:47treating the frontalis, even though I'm 53, is important. And I treat it up high and try to avoid
01:52anywhere near the eyebrows so the eyebrows don't drop. So the frontalis muscle has that elevating
01:59effect and the procerus and corrugators pull downward. So by relaxing those, it relaxes those 11 lines
02:06and it also gives a little lift to the eyebrow. We're going to go over some places on the mature face
02:12that I think are important to treat and maybe allocate your budget differently and see how these results
02:19improve the aging face over 40. So let's just say your frontalis or forehead muscle isn't super strong
02:26and you don't have really deep etched in lines in your forehead. This would be an area for a lot of people
02:32that you can maybe consider skipping if you're over 40, especially if you're over 50, and allocate those units
02:39somewhere else in the face to give you more face lift. Because the procerus and the corrugators are
02:45downward pulling muscles, they pull in and down, by relaxing these, it gets rid of those 11 lines
02:51between the brows and it gives that center and medial part of the eyebrow a little bit of a lift.
02:57So by treating the center and the corrugators here and here, this gives the brows a little lift.
03:05You can also achieve a lift at the tail of the brow by treating the obicularis oculi. This is a
03:12sphincter muscle around the eye that is circular and it squeezes in. By relaxing that muscle, it allows
03:19the tail of the brow to lift up. This is a really nice look for those of us who are aging. This is
03:25usually just one or two units per point in the tail of the brow. Crow's feet can also be treated
03:32by adding a few units in the obicularis oculi around the eye. So these two will achieve a little
03:41bit of a lift and this will help those crow's feet. So it seems like a lot of people start their Botox by
03:48treating the top of the head and moving downward, but as we get older, sometimes it's beneficial to
03:54think about the bottom part of the face moving upward. Now we can also get a nice lip lift by doing
04:00a Botox lip flip. This has a couple benefits. Not only does it lift the lip and make it look more
04:06fuller, but it also helps the vertical lip lines. This is done by treating around the mouth
04:14and this will give that lip just an ever so slight flip, also helping those vertical lip lines a lot.
04:25Now in a lot of cases, people don't allocate money to the bottom of the obicularis oris. This is also
04:31a sphincter muscle, just like around the eyes, and it purses inwards or closes down symmetrically.
04:38But if you did treat the bottom area, this would cause the bottom lip to kind of flip out a little
04:47bit. Now the disadvantage of this is that by over-treating this obicularis oris, you can cause
04:54difficulty with like whistling or swallowing from a straw or even cause drooling if you over-relax
05:00that muscle around the mouth. One area that a lot of people don't allocate their Botox budget to
05:06is the DAO muscle. This is a muscle that pulls downward at the corners of the mouth. And as we
05:13get older, that muscle sometimes can be very pronounced in terms of its downward pull and create a very
05:18downward or frowning look, even at rest. So this muscle you can actually feel, and it's good to
05:26really feel your facial anatomy. So if you pull down, you can feel this muscle activating.
05:34And you can treat it both at the top of the muscle, this is about a centimeter out.
05:38You can also treat it at the base because this muscle goes all the way down, kind of like this.
05:48And so you can treat it at the top of the muscle and you can treat it at the base of the muscle.
05:54For me, this is how I treat it in two points because this is how I get the best results.
05:59When you're first starting with DAO, definitely talk to your provider because often you just start
06:05in one spot. So again, the DAO, depressor angularis oris, pulls down. And we want everything to be
06:13lifted. We don't want any overly active muscles that pull down. And this is also true of the jawline
06:21and the platysma. So this muscle again is like this. And you can see where this pulls down.
06:32So here and at the base of that muscle here. Now the platysma is a sheet of muscle that runs from the
06:42clavicle or collarbone all the way up to the jawline. This pulls down and this is where we
06:49can treat this to help improve jowling and get a better jawline. By treating the platysma in the
06:55neck, you can treat the bands directly, but you can also spot treat or speckle in some toxin
07:01through the neck to improve the aging neck. So the jawline treatment would just be some shallow
07:07injections up the jawline. My pen doesn't want to mark. It can be three or four spots.
07:18Definitely talk to your provider. This is meant to teach you what areas you can consider adding to your
07:25Botox treatment or maybe subbing out those units you get in your forehead and trying some other
07:30locations to see how that works for you as you age. Now as we age and the chin kind of rises up or gets
07:37stuck more upward because that strong mentalis, it also can create a cobblestone chin. Now by treating
07:44this it doesn't lift the chin, it actually relaxes it and this creates a longer line through the jaw.
07:50So by treating the chin here and here it relaxes the chin, smoothing it out, lessening the dimpling
07:59in the chin and creating a longer line between posterior jawline and the chin. This creates a
08:05sharper jawline. Platysmal bands is a great place to treat and you can see I definitely need to
08:10refresh this. So the platysmal bands pull downward. This can accentuate jowling and just give the neck
08:17a more aged look. So by treating the platysma down the platysmal bands, you can lift the neck
08:26and take away some of that aged look. And I'm not going to do a full neck treatment here, I'm just
08:31going to give you the rough idea. And as the platysma strengthens, you see more creepiness in the neck.
08:39So as I flex, you can kind of see more creepiness down here. And by softening or weakening the platysma
08:47muscle, you can relax that skin so it doesn't look so crepey.
08:54So sometimes in an area like this, it's beneficial just to kind of spot treat certain areas to relax.
09:03And it doesn't have to be a band. You can just lightly spot treat those areas to relax the
09:09platysma. These are shallow injections to spot treat and maybe one unit per point. You can see
09:14that I have more of that on this side than I do on this side. So your provider will definitely take a
09:21look at where you need the treatment and customize to suit your needs. Now if you are a geek like me and
09:26you want to know more about anatomy and tox and advanced facial rejuvenation, definitely hit my
09:32rumble page. The videos are free. That's rumble.com slash gorgeously aging. Sometimes a little sprinkling
09:39of tox through this area will help even lift this a little more, accentuating a more sculpted jawline.
09:47So I sometimes will sprinkle in a few units just through here and here. Again, these are very
09:54superficial. Another place to lift the face, this is something I don't typically do, but right underneath
10:00the nose, right there, can lift the tip of the nose. So these are all the places I would definitely
10:07consider as you age as far as Botox treatment. If you're finding that your forehead treatment is
10:14starting to make your eyebrows look heavy or droopy, definitely skip that and just do the
10:18proseris and the corrugators to give a little lift here. These two points are your brow lift and of
10:24course these just help soften the crow's feet and under eye wrinkles. This point here gives you a tiny
10:30bit of nose lift and these here give a slight lip lift or lip flip as well as treating the vertical
10:37lip lines. The mentalis, by treating that, actually relax it. It doesn't lift it, but by relaxing
10:43a mentalis that's very strong you smooth the chin and create a longer line through the jaw. This can
10:49help with jowling and jawline structure and by elongating that jawline. It also smooths out the
10:56chin nicely if you have dimpling on the chin. The DAO muscle is a big one for aging. I think it gets
11:02stronger and more pronounced that downward turn as we age and by treating the DAO you lift the corners of
11:10the mouth. The platysma or neck is something many people overlook because it just adds to their tox
11:15budget but it's such an impactful treatment area because it lifts the jawline as far as relaxing that
11:23platysma so it's not pulling down on the jawline and pulling down the jowls, accentuating the jowls.
11:29Like I said, I'm three months out. I definitely do. I have full facial movement so I wanted to show you
11:35that before I do another tox treatment. Again, to learn more about advanced facial rejuvenation,
11:42visit me at rumble.com slash gorgeouslyaging. It is totally free. Definitely save this video,
11:48forward it to a friend who is on their own Botox journey as they age, and talk to your medical provider
11:54about maybe changing up your dosing and the areas of treatment as you age. Sometimes we get stuck in
12:02doing the same treatment areas over and over and we forget or even sometimes don't know about these
12:08other treatment options. Let me know what areas you treat on your face with Botox and how the results are
12:14suiting you as you age. Now for me, I will always keep doing my forehead because it is so big and strong,
12:20but I definitely keep the treatment up high so that it does not affect my brow lift. Thanks so much for
12:26joining me today. I love and appreciate you all. Be good to yourselves and to others, and I'll see you in my next video.
12:50Bye.
