00:00This video is for entertainment and education only. This is not medical advice or instruction.
00:11Hey friends, I'm Stacey and this is Gorgeously Aging and today we're going to do some lower
00:15face threads. Since I've lost weight, I have noticed some volume loss, especially in the
00:20lower face, through the marionette lines. And although my jawline is still in really good
00:24shape for my age, I'm 53, I have noticed a little laxity in the jawline and underneath
00:30my chin from that weight loss. For those of you who are brand new over the past year, I've
00:35been on a weight loss journey and I've lost about 75 pounds. I think threads are such a
00:39great way to replace filler, which has so much more risk, but it also builds your natural
00:46collagen so it stays longer and usually looks more natural in the skin. I think threads are
00:51actually so easy. They may look intimidating, but they're really quite easy and not a lot
00:57of risk. So today I've used this lidocaine. I did wash the lower part of my face and swab
01:02it with alcohol. Applied this topical lidocaine and it's been on for about 15 minutes. So now
01:08I'm just going to remove it first just with a dry cloth and then with some alcohol. You
01:16definitely want to make sure the skin is clean, prepped, and sanitized for the threads. The
01:22last thing you want to do is to embed any bacteria or poke any of the bacteria into your skin as
01:28you're doing your thread treatment. So I have sanitized my hands both by washing them and using
01:33a hand sanitizer. I'm going to go ahead and put on some gloves. And today I am using the triple threads.
01:39These are the 26 gauge 38 millimeter threads. They are PDO threads and they are from acecosum.com
01:48discount code Stacy10. I think the 38 millimeter are a good length to work with, especially if you're
01:55a beginner. The threads that are too long are cumbersome to work with. These are really good
02:00kind of universal thread. The triple is good for lifting and for filling where you have volume loss.
02:08So the areas of concern today is the volume loss right here in the corners of my mouth. This is a
02:15common area of volume loss as we age and especially since I've lost weight. So my area that I want to
02:23create some volume is going to be in here.
02:28And I'm also going to treat along my jawline. Now you can do this in a lot of different ways. So
02:35you'll see some mapping online that shows these grid-like sections. You can certainly do that.
02:42I like to treat the jawline just by layering threads and you'll see how I do that as I demonstrate in
02:49this video. So I'm going to remove these markings. I just want to give you a general overview of the
02:54areas of concern and where I'm trying to treat today. I'm also going to treat a little bit underneath
02:59the chin here because you can see I have a little bit of loose skin from my weight loss. These are
03:05all areas you want to build natural collagen. This is going to help both tighten and provide volume.
03:12Now initially you're going to see some volume in swelling and over time that swelling is going to
03:18be replaced with the collagen that's built as the threads break down in the tissue. So I'm going to
03:23first start with some jawline layering of threads to give more structure to the jawline area.
03:30So here is my first thread and I'm going to pull back just a little bit. We're going to go in at about
03:37a 20-25 degree angle. Poke into the skin. Once I get into the skin I'm going to flatten out.
03:54And just advance the thread.
04:03Just for the sake of you seeing where this is I'm going to mark above where I'm taking this thread out
04:09just as a reference point. I'm going to twist the thread and pull it out and I'm going to dispose
04:16of these in a sharps container. Now I want to layer so I'm going to start a little bit below where my
04:22marking is kind of down toward the jawbone. And we're layering to build up more collagen.
04:35We're going to go in at an angle at about 20 degrees into the skin.
04:42Poke in, flatten out a little bit,
04:44and advance the thread slowly, no forcing.
04:58Now you can leave them in and continue to layer like that. I've done that in the past. Check out
05:03my other thread videos. There should be a thread playlist. I'll list the link for the thread playlist
05:09in this video description box below so you can see all of my thread videos. In the past I've left the
05:14threads in so that you can see how I'm layering them. But I find it a little easier to take the
05:20threads out one by one as I go just so that I can not be impeded by the handle of the thread so to
05:28speak or the end of the thread. So I'm going to twist this and pull it out and the thread is left
05:34behind. Now the thread is made of PDO which dissolves and breaks down over time. As it breaks
05:41down the collagen is built around it giving the skin more elasticity and structure. It also adds
05:47volume to areas that we lose volume as we age. This is the same material that is in dissolvable
05:53sutures or what they use in surgery and common sutures for when you get like stitches at the doctor.
05:58So we can see from that little pinpoint of blood where we took that hub of the needle out was right
06:03there. So I'm just gradually moving down along the jawline. So about 20 to 25 degrees getting that
06:15needle into the skin and flattening out a bit slowly advancing along the jawline.
06:22If you feel anything that is drastically uncomfortable you can stop pull out reposition. You'll feel a little
06:38bit of discomfort but it's not horrible and definitely don't force. So I'm going to twist
06:45and pull out and it leaves the thread behind. And that's where we were right there just down below that
06:52so these are just kind of reference markings. I'm going to take another one. I'm going to move down
06:58and we're going to repeat this process just to provide more structure and collagen building through
07:04the jawline.
07:30Now we're going to twist again.
07:32push and pull out.
07:35You can see that no tails of the thread are exposed. I find that pushing forward but by twisting,
07:42pushing forward and pulling out then you are making sure that that thread is embedded into the skin.
07:48I'm going to go ahead and grab another thread and this is going to be so good for the jowling area.
08:00It does take a little patience, a little confidence and it's important to stay calm and relaxed.
08:19You can pull up on the thread just to kind of see where you are along that jawbone.
08:24And then of course when you get to where you are at the end, pushing or twisting, pushing in
08:30and pulling out helps to make sure that the threaded tip or the end is embedded into the skin.
08:37If it isn't embedded all the way, if you've used a thread that's too long or you haven't gotten it fully engaged,
08:42it can just be snipped off at the end and it will embed into the skin.
08:47Okay, we're going to use another one here. Just go down a little farther.
09:08And we're going to twist and push in
09:10and pull out. And those little white things are kind of stoppers. It doesn't matter if they fall
09:15off or if they come off with the thread with the needle. It doesn't matter either way. They're kind
09:20of just stoppers. So that was where the last one was. So now I want to create some volume right in
09:26through here. And my plan is to go kind of in a fanning triangle. So here, here, and here. Starting down by my jawline.
09:43Getting into the skin.
09:47Flattening out. And we want to stay on this side where the hollow or the volume loss is.
09:56Slowly navigating. You can pull up just to kind of see where the tip is.
10:02We're going to keep navigating upward.
10:10And I can feel that I'm kind of right where I want to be here. Twist and pull.
10:18So now that thread is right in here and that's going to build collagen and help to improve that loss of
10:25volume right here in those marionette lines. A little bleeding is normal. And you may even bruise a little
10:32bit. I'm going to remove these and just wipe upwards. We'll do a few more threads here in that marionette
10:38line area. So let's see. We're going to enter down here.
10:51Slowly. Sometimes you'll feel a pinchy feeling.
10:54And we're going to navigate all the way up into that corner again.
11:08You can kind of see where you're at if you flex the tip.
11:10And I'm right up here. You can see where that is. And I'm going to twist, push upward, and pull back.
11:25You can already see that it's filling some of that volume. And some of that immediately is
11:30inflammation. And over time that collagen is going to build in there and give it a nice
11:35volume restoration. I think I'm just going to do those two for now. Because this is something you
11:40can always come back later and add more. I've had such a drippy nose, you guys. I apologize if you see
11:46that on camera. All right, I'm going to re-sanitize my gloves and we're going to move on to this side.
11:51Keeping these little alcohol pads on hand is a good idea. Okay, so we're going to work on the jawline.
11:56The same is over here. I'm going to probably going to speed this up and add some music. And then also
12:01right here and right here.
12:26All right, I'm just going to put four through my neck area where I'm having a little skin laxity here
12:55from my weight loss. You can see the outline of the needle here. So I'm going to push, twist, and remove.
13:13So I'm going to put one, two, three, four, just to help build some collagen and firmness to restore
13:21some of that volume loss that I had with weight loss. This is great for any age-related kind of
13:27creepiness or looseness in the under chin area.
13:39All right, I'm just going to wipe over this to make sure it's all cleaned up.
13:59As far as aftercare, expect maybe getting some bruises. I like to just keep it moisturized. I use
14:04regular moisturizer, but I also rely on my Avene Cyclophate Plus, which is such a good healer.
14:10I will list that down in the video description box below.
14:14There may be some tenderness as you heal from threads. And if you're in an area like the corners
14:20of the mouth where you feel that muscle moving a lot as you're talking, it's above the muscle in the
14:26skin. So you will kind of feel that a little bit until it softens in.
14:31Warm compresses are really helpful with threads because it makes them a little more malleable and
14:36kind of helps them embed or soften into the skin, I like to say, a little bit better with the heat.
14:42Just don't have it be too hot. So there will be some swelling for a couple of days. You can alternate
14:47the heat for helping those threads embed into the skin nicely and cold for anti-inflammation.
14:55So I'm just going to go ahead and put some moisturizer on here.
15:02I like to massage with moisturizer after threads. This also will help them kind of settle into the
15:09tissue. And I already can tell that this is going to look better. Right now that's inflammation,
15:14but it will turn into natural collagen. I also think this is a really great alternative to jawline
15:20filler and safer for those who are not comfortable with filler or really terrified of vascular occlusion.
15:28There's really no risk of vascular occlusion with threads. You could puncture a vein or vessel which
15:33would cause a bruise, but you are not going to occlude the vein or vessel. As far as hitting a nerve,
15:39it is possible with threads. It's not common or likely. And in the event that a nerve is hit,
15:46it usually resolves itself once the inflammation comes down. Going slow is the biggest tip I can
15:52give you for threads. It is quite easy, but you have to have the confidence and be willing to handle
15:57needles. Some people are just so uncomfortable with needles that they wouldn't be able to do this,
16:01but staying calm and going slow is the key to success. I also can't stress enough starting on a
16:08clean surface, making sure the skin is washed and then cleaned with alcohol. Do your topical lidocaine for
16:15anywhere from 10 to 30 minutes. Remove the topical lidocaine thoroughly and then re-alcohol swab the
16:20area. We don't want to embed any bacteria into the skin with the needles or create an infection.
16:27Always use gloves and make sure your hands are sanitized prior to treatment. Again, these are the
16:33triple 26 gauge 38 millimeter length. These are PDO triple threads. These are great for lift and for
16:42filling. Remember that when using threads, we're building natural collagen so the results will
16:47improve over time. I think this is one of the easiest things you can do and likely one of the safest
16:53things you can do as a DIYer. In office, threads cost about $300 a thread. So imagine had I had this
17:01done in clinic, it would have been several thousand dollars. What a lot of people like to do in the
17:06medical community is fear-mongering. Make you think that these disastrous things can happen to you if
17:12you do this wrong. Anyone can learn anything and that is a way for people in the medical community
17:18to scare people into submission so they spend the big money. It's really not that hard. In fact,
17:24it is really quite easy. It's always wise to do a lot of research and really learn a lot before you
17:29jump into it. The more you know, the more confident you'll be and the more successful your results will be.
17:35If you guys have any questions, please leave them in the video comment section below.
17:39I'll list all of these supplies also in that comments are in the video description and in the
17:43comments but I'll try to check back here periodically to see if you have any questions. Thank you so much
17:49for watching. Be good to yourselves and to others. I will see you in my next video.
